Voice actor, Billy West, is known for such famous characters as Ren Höek on Ren & Stimpy and Phillip J. Fry on Futurama, as well as numerous characters in shows such as Animaniacs, Johnny Bravo and many, many more.

Billy has been hitting it out of the park on twitter recently by reprising his Futurama character, , the pompous, inept starship captain, Zapp Brannigan.  What’s Zapp talking about? Why nothing less than his favorite Donald Trump Quotes.

Got a favorite Trump quote? Share it with us and maybe we can talk Billy into having Zapp recite it!

Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • cathyx

I never listen to what trump says.

    • Rich H

I bet the MSM listens more than his own voters.

      • cathyx

Why would anyone waste their time on listening to a moron?

        • SpiffyTheValiant

Cause birds of a feather flock together.

          • cathyx

I’m talking about anyone who posts stuff here in the comments, or progressive sites that post threads about his stupid stuff.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

    • The_Fixer

It’s very difficult to actually listen to him – it’s like going to a carnival run by a crew of people with untreated ADHD, except it’s contained within one person.

But I do try, mostly because I think it is important to listen for the inconsistencies in what he say so they can be thrown back to his supporters. Few of them catch it, but it’s worth calling him out to his worshipers. It’s important to do the same with Hillary, and she’s even more difficult to listen to.

      • cathyx

Neither Trump supporters or Hillary supporters hear a word you say. Have you EVER had one say to you, ‘oh, you’re right’?

        • The_Fixer

Actually, a few. However, those people at least had a little more on the ball to start with.

By and large, though, you are right. But that doesn’t stop me from trying!

        • Rich H

“oh, you’re right”? I thought you said they weren’t too bright.

  • 17

    ..

  • The_Fixer

Well I don’t know about quotes, but Ken Burns has a few things to say not only about Drumpfo der Clown, but racism and a few other things:

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/07/03/ken-burns-trump-lusts-after-his-own-daughter.html

  • The_Fixer

Idiot reporter writes stupid story about hooking up with gay Olympians on Grindr, unwilltingly provides information that could out them. Some of them come from countries where being gay is a death sentence:

    http://www.vox.com/2016/8/11/12440186/daily-beast-olympics-gay

    • Rich H

I saw that. That guy deserves to be fired, but they defended him – and published it. What a rag.

      • The_Fixer

It’s an extension of something that I’ve been noticing of late – gay guys, usually younger ones (but not always), who live in upscale neighborhoods and are quite out and open, assuming that it’s the same way for everybody everywhere. I think that it’s a product of them coming of age in a time of increased gay acceptance. It was not that way for me, I’ll tell you that.

While it’s ideal to live in a society where being gay is no big deal, it’s certainly not that way everywhere. It boggles the mind that a reporter would not know that. Like I said, idiot reporter.

        • Nevin

I go to this gay site and a lot of them think everyone should be out. Providing a roof over your head and food on the table is a lot more important, at least to me. I’ve been out for over 40 years and did lose a job because the VP couldn’t stay that I was gay.

          • The_Fixer

I am judiciously out for about 20 years or so? Which means that most people know I am gay, and I say so when asked, but I don’t go shouting it from the rooftops. Yes, there are still people who will beat you up (or worse) because you’re gay, and I can’t afford to go to the hospital because of a bigot.

I used to hang at AfterElton.com, which later became The Backlot and got absorbed into the awful NewNowNext, eventually dying. There were a couple of columnists who refused to believe that anyone could suffer for being out. They were purists – and while that’s good sometimes, it’s not always the most prudent thing to be a purist. Sometimes, you have to exercise caution so that you can live to fight another day.

          • Nancy

my ex came out 35 years ago…it was so difficult for him-even back then Canada was tolerant but not enough to feel safe. I can’t imagine having to hide and pretend while trying to live life. he is so much happier but I know there are times and places that he still has to watch it.
            sad.

          • The_Fixer

It’s a stressful life to be totally closeted, worrying about whether someone you encounter in your day will say something that outs you. That’s one reason why I did come out – it was simply too tiring to always having to watch your step. I can manage the worry by limiting my silence to those times when it would be a danger to be out.

What’s funny is people’s reaction when I do come out to them. Some say that they are totally surprised. Really? 62 years old, never married, they’ve known me for 20 years and never known me to have a girlfriend or express any romantic interest in women, and you’re surprised? Ha!

Apparently, a gay guy is not a guy who fixes stuff and is not afraid to change the oil in his car. Coming out in safe situations is, for me, a way to break those stereotypes.

I am sure you had a tough time when your ex broke that news to you, but seems like you are in a good place now. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, huh?

          • Nevin

A lot of people think just because SSM is legal that everything is rosy. I’m like you. I live my life as a gay woman and don’t hide it, but it is not the first thing out of my mouth when I meet people.

          • Dosido3

You know, that as bad as evangelists wanting everyone to live their life like they do. People have a right to privacy and make their own decisions on that stuff. Some people don’t have any boundaries.

        • Rich H

I think the article was mean spirited in intent. Of course what I read was already redacted.

  • The_Fixer

We here in the US have taken helicopter parenting to a high art form. Letting your kids play outside during a rain shower is apparently grounds for calling Child Protective Services:

    http://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/1127282/neighbor-calls-cps-on-kids-playing-in-rain

    • Rich H

      What?

      • The_Fixer

I know, amazing. When I was a kid, we stayed out all day riding bicycles, playing in vacant lots, and doing all manner of things without adult supervision. If I stayed away too long, my mother would always reprimand me with “Where the hell were you? I thought you were Dead In A Ditch Somewhere!” I think we were better for it.

Good morning, Rich! Hope your day is off to a good start.

        • Rich H

Morning Fixer. Everything’s fine here. I grew up in a small town and No one ever got away with anything. Everyone knew everyone’s kids (entire families by first name). On the other hand, all we had to do was be home in time for dinner.

  • SpiffyTheValiant

o.o interesting title for a thread lol

I wonder what Bernie is thinking now. To be used like he was by Clinton and the democratic party.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

Hey Nevin 🙂 Sorry I missed you over there. I turned the sound on though. Bernie has to be thinking~ #%#^#@$@

        • Nevin

I just popped in to see if anything was happening.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            oh ok

      • RTIII

I think Bernie is in some form of cognitive dissonance or denial…

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          I think they threatened him.

          • Nevin

            You both might be right.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

  • Nancy

I have not listened to him or Hillary for ages. not having a TV helps…I actually have to seek out what they are saying and doing. it’s very easy to avoid them both unless I actually want to know.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      smart nancyness.

      • Nancy

        self preservation nancyness too!

        • SpiffyTheValiant

Interesting. In college I took a class and we gave our opinion what the future out be like. We were all very optimist and sadly so off the mark.

    • The_Fixer

I always love reading articles like that! In the few cases that they were close to being right in concept, the illustrations of what they thought it would look like are hilarious. The huge levers on everything and adaptations of existing tools by robots are a hoot!

      • Nevin

There we some in class that thought pollution would be so bad you could barely see the sun. Even back then we were aware of pollution and its damaging affects. We thought life would be easier, work less hours. The requisite flying cars and robots were a curiosity. One of the big ones was no more wars.

    • Rich H

That was fun. Reminds me of the time traveler on a cell phone.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj3qesTjOE8

      • Nevin

Wasn’t that disproved? I always thought she was cupping her hand over her hearing aid. It does look like she is talking though.

        • Rich H

While looking for this, I came across one on Huffpo from 1932 (I think it was). A much clearer picture, and the heading said that was “debunked”. I didn’t bother to read it because it wasn’t the one I was looking for.

This? I think the assumption was she had some type of hearing aid.

  • Nancy

well off to the lake-hope you all have a great day…catch you later!

      Later Nancy.

Innocent Man Killed By Cop From Armored Vehicle Gun Turret

The incident raises questions about the militarization of police. As of 2014, 8,000 local law enforcement agencies participated in the Pentagon’s controversial 1033 program. The program has transferred over $5.1 billion in military hardware to these agencies.

    • Blue Basilisk

Why the hell does a police force HAVE an armored vehicle with a gun turret? I’m not sure our local National Guard armory has one of those.

      • 17

        Immigrants, what else?

  • The_Fixer

I gotta jump out for a while. Will catch you all later, have a good day!

  • RTIII

A few days ago my representative in the House – the most Progressive person in the House, I think, Barbara Lee – sent me an email asking me, as their constituent, what I thought Congress should be spending its time on – top priority. It had a list of 15 to 20 items, all worthy of attention. However, it didn’t include MY top issue – securing the vote! – so, I called her office.

The guy I spoke to was so surprised and impressed by my off the cuff remarks about how digital voting is bad that he asked me to write it up and email him so he can get it on the Congresswoman’s agenda.

Here’s the core of my letter, for those interested:

By design and specific intent, the data (including code) used in computer systems today are impermanent. As most any user can tell you, when your computer loses power, whatever hasn’t been “saved” will be lost. What’s more, whatever has been “saved” – be it a program or data – can be over-written; no data and no code is safe from alteration, be it intentional or accidental, and once altered, the original cannot be recovered. While we have developed a great many techniques to mitigate problems or risks created by this fundamental impermanence, such as making backup copies, this same impermanence means that mechanisms to track and catch data loss or alterations are themselves at risk of being lost or altered.

This fundamental impermanence is the ultimate issue that cannot be overcome which leads to the conclusion that “all-digital” systems cannot be trusted as systems for voting.

Some would point to banking systems as an example of overcoming the impermanence problem in a secure way. However, this ignores several facts, including that the account holder will have independent records, and, very importantly, the transactions that result in any particular balance are not secret; they are known at the very least by the payer and the payee. In sharp contrast, voting in the USA is intended to be kept secret soas to avoid the possibility of bought votes. It is this secrecy that makes it impossible to have secure digital voting; the only secure digital vote is one that can be confirmed by the voter after the fact, and that makes it possible for voters to reveal their vote and get paid for it.

Further, while one can imagine specialized computing systems for the purpose of a secure “digital vote” that attempt to overcome the impermanence problem by using a storage medium which has permanence, if said storage medium can’t be confirmed by a human at the time it is stored, such as on a write-once CD or DVD, it remains impossible to confirm as fact that it was stored correctly; a hacked system can report one thing while doing another. Instead of something a human cannot read and confirm, one might have the computer punch out the vote on a paper card that the voter can confirm, however in such case, note that recording a vote on paper is no longer an “all-digital vote.”

As a result of the impermanence problem, all-digital voting must be banned.

    • Rich H

      Well stated.

    • Nevin

Fractional voting is what I worry about. Did you get a response to your letter?

      • RTIII

Not yet – I only “hit send” about 5 minutes ago!

      • RTIII

If you eliminate digital voting, you also eliminate fractional voting…

        • Nevin

You can also eliminate fractional voting by not programing the machines to allow it.

          • RTIII

My argument is that’s the wrong argument! 🙂

No digital-only vote is safe; they ALL must be banned, fractional or not.

          • Nevin

I understand your point RT. We are not going to get rid of our voting machines so we have to deal with what is in front of us.

          • RTIII

Fractional voting is illegal now. Passing another law isn’t going to fix the problem.

Something like 60% of all the voting machines in the USA are due for un-funded replacement right now. It’s certainly true that in the < 3 months remaining until the next big election, nothing will or even really can be done about this. However, I'm interested in helping my congresscritter to craft competent legislation to address the issue…

What we MIGHT be able to do in these < 12 weeks remaining is get exit polling funded by crowd-sourcing or some such… If the powers that be knew there would be wide-spread exit polling in critical places, maybe it'll cut down on the cheating. …Given where we are now, they already got the setup they wanted, the vote this next election isn't going to be as vital as it should have since the Dem (and maybe the R?) Primary was stolen.

          • Nevin

We had exit polling where Bernie won or came in very close and look what happened. The process is too cumbersome to deal with election fraud. Finding it after the fact doesn’t get you anything. We need to find a way correct the errors so the rightful winner will be declared.

          • RTIII

As you point out, no time for that now! Being able to TELL there was election fraud is at least a step in the right direction.

    • Dosido3

      Oh my gosh. You rock!

  • SpiffyTheValiant

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNY5wxOqX-U

Even if that 85% of Bernie voters supporting Clinton was right, according to this that means Clinton loses 10 million votes. Obama won by less than 5 million. This is what Hillarybots are bragging about.

    • Rich H

They pulled that 85% number out of their ass. There’s been polling done that shows close to 90% of “youth” Bernie voters were going to Stein. That’d mean something like 120% of the rest would need to go to Hillary in order to reach that 85% threshold.

It’s all just an early foundation being laid for election fraud.

      • Nevin

Young people are notorious for not voting.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          >.> In defense of my generation, look at who they are expecting us to vote for.

          • Nevin

True, but you have the same options we do.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Yeah. But imagine if you will…

You are a potential first time voter and you are told repeatedly, it’s Trump or Clinton. (This is not true, there are third party people, but you don’t realistically expect them to win.) Wouldn’t you be inclined to go, “AWE FUCK IT!”

That is what they want and it is a good strategy to lower young voter participation. (That isn’t even considering all the cute ways they have to screw over college students.)

          • Nevin

I want to have some semblance I am voting for my future.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • Dosido3

The solution is, obviously, to put some Pokemon Go prizes at every polling station. :p

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            oh geez.

          • Dosido3

Every day we get another terrible story about a PG player meeting some harm. 🙁 I was being snarky. Sorry. People are motivated by weird things.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            *pat pat*

          • Dosido3

Thanks. Let me rant some more about this stupid game. It’s an invitation to put yourself at risk for robbery, mugging, car accidents and murder. One of our local high school kids got shot dead while playing the game in a tourist area in SF. I’m so done with app companies thinking they are cool when they come up with these STUPID ideas.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            o.o

          • Dosido3

Sorry I’m cranky today. I’ll pull myself together soon. :/

          • Dosido3

Thanks. That aspect is also problematic. I live in Google land. The income disparity is really obvious. We have open discussions about the fact that teachers cannot afford to live here or commute from more affordable places…

          • Nevin

I downloaded that game. Didn’t realize I had to get out of my house to play it.

          • Dosido3

Personally I think it is a very ill conceived idea.

          • notisaidthepig

            Leave the house? The horror.

          • Nevin

It interrupts my posting time. Actually, I did delete it. I don’t have time to go to the places they want me to be.

          • 17

Nevin, have you seen the definition of the word “semblance” lately?

A semblance that you are voting for your future is exactly what you have.

          • Nevin

            Not what I voted for.

        • Rich H

Sure, but if they voted for Bernie and polled for Stein, that doesn’t make the magical 85% number. She’ll be lucky (at best) to reach 50%.

          • Nevin

Voter turnout was less than 30%. I doubt there were many young people in that 30%.

          • Rich H

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess (that’s all it is) that the youth vote was Huge in the Primaries – it may not be now after we’ve all witnessed how corrupt it all was. But I think numbers will be down across the board.

          • 17

Agree. A whole new generation of young voters just got confirmation that their vote doesn’t count.

          • Dosido3

Our house is making the trip down memory lane by watching the PBS American Experience series on Presidents. We are on LBJ now.

Anyway, someone pointed out that Carter won as the dem nominee because of New Hampshire which has fewer votes than Cook County, IL. It’s a ridiculous system. People don’t vote in primaries or don’t think they can if they are independent.

          • notisaidthepig

I’m going to go out on a limb and say she won’t even get the 43% that Bill got in ’92. Mark my words.

          • I wouldn’t bet against that prediction.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

I know. They only listed her or trump as an option. They didn’t even have the balls to list undecided.

Hmm, where do you think all that money goes?

      • From what I’ve seen, mostly to fancy, unnecessary equipment and facilities for the agencies involved.

        • Rich H

I’ve seen reports (and had heard stories from when I knew people in customs) that certain items get seized then are never accounted for.

The 4.3 million Americans whose race could change when they die

New Methods Of Restraining Inmates Have Deadly Outcomes

On August 8, a grand jury in Oklahoma recommended no charges be brought against officers at the Caddo County Jail, where an inmate was pepper sprayed and put in a neck-hold by jailers until he died from

The grand jury did, however, recommend changes to “improve jail safety.” Such changes include annual reviews, allowing administrators to monitor employee training progress, and “examining proper restraint training and improving policies that may be outdated.” County officials are said to be considering them.

It’s Oklahoma, and those dead are “criminals.”

It’s supposed to be “the bible belt” – just remember how vengeful their god is.

        • It’s supposed to be “the bible belt”

But in reality, it’s actually just The Dummy Belt.

          • 17

“The Dummy Belt”. I’ll be adding that one to the arsenal. Thanks.

        • EdgarHF

I did a cross country motorcycle trip back in ’07. I made the mistake of crossing the state of Oklahoma. I went through one town, I can still kick myself for not taking a picture, were the main stretch appeared to be made up of gun shops and churches.

          • Rich H

I drove cross country with some friends around ’78 and drove through Texas. One friend was Samoan, and in the middle of summer, he was dark. Anyhow, we stopped at a truck stop to get something to eat and a chorus of “get that ni##er outta here!!” broke out.

Now, he alone could have kicked about a dozen of their asses, but this was a huge stop and there was probably a hundred truckers in there – so I grabbed him and we split.

We got back on the road and those fuckers must have radioed ahead because for the next 20 miles a group of them put us in a cradle and nearly (except for some damn good driving) ran us off the road a few dozen times.

Ah, Texas. Oh yeah, I’ve driven through OK too. What a miserable drive.

          • EdgarHF

            Like a third world country.

  • Liars, Damn Liar and Statistics…The Plutocrats’ horseshit continues to act like a trail of breadcrumbs to their real philosophies.

Statisticians Use ‘Seasonal Adjustment’ To Pad Latest Jobs Report Amid Downturn In Economy

Last Friday saw the release of a bombshell jobs report, with headlines exclaiming that the US economy added over 250,000 jobs in July, far in excess of any forecasts. The reality was far more grim. Those “jobs” weren’t actually created by businesses – they were created by the statisticians who compiled the numbers, through the process of “seasonal adjustment.” That’s a bit of statistical magic that the government likes to pull out of its hat when the real data isn’t very flattering. It’s done with GDP, it’s done with job numbers, and similar manipulation is done with government inflation figures to keep them lower than actual price increases. In reality there are a million fewer people with jobs this month than last month, but the magic of seasonal adjustment turns that into a gain of 255,000.

Disclaimer: As someone with a bit of schooling in both statistics and polling, I want to say that Mr. Twain’s skepticism was not wholly warranted: When preformed with professional ethics and proper structuring, both polling and statistics are valuable tools in a modern world.

    • EdgarHF

Even if they did not fudge the stats, and they do, they’re mostly crappy jobs.

    RAND’s ‘Unthinkable’ war with China

A new study by the RAND Corporation for US Army presents questionable assumptions while examining a possible long and severe or short US-China war. In a sinister way, it focuses on the military and economic losses and costs and ignores the tragic impact of such a conflict on the people of these two nations and even those beyond. The study assumes the war won’t involve other powers, would remain confined to East Asia and no nuclear weapons would be used. It only proves that Pentagon is planning and preparing for a war with China.

    http://atimes.com/2016/08/rands-unthinkable-war-with-china/

    • I’m more worried about war with Russia, TBH. Putin is a wily motherfucker and our current crop of bellicose plutocrats, Her Nibbs included, simply aren’t. And I’m afraid Putin isn’t above dropping a couple nukes on the continental U.S., if he thinks he can get away with it.

      • 17

I’ll agree about the war with Russia being the apparent priority, but disagree about the possibility of large-scale nukes. There’s no money in Nuclear war.

As for war with China…don’t you think the Chinese will make their moves toward SE Asia while we’re tied up playing soldier on Putin’s doorstep? We can’t be everywhere at once, even though we think we can.

        • I’m not worried about large scale nuclear war, more about limited exchanges. And while such limited exchanges would almost certainly be in the Ukraine, like I said, above, “I’m afraid Putin isn’t above dropping a couple nukes on the continental U.S., if he thinks he can get away with it.”

      • Dosido3

        Hi Unka…”her nibbs”?

        • Queen Hillary

          • Dosido3

Lol. I knew it meant Hillary. First time I saw that moniker and wondered where it came from, how derived.

      • Rich H

I don’t know about nukes, but Putin is smarter than our entire military “brain trust” combined.

      • kreskin

Putin is no Adolf Hitler , he is not a madman . If you’re going to worry about world wars and nukes flying you should worry about your own country first and foremost . We are the aggressor nation , not the Russians . For us it isn’t about peace and stability , it’s about world domination and control … militarily and economically .

        • I AM worried about the US being the aggressor. And with Hillary’s obsession with demonizing and starting some sort of war with Russia, because while I’m sure she wants it’s cold, I’m just as sure it could all to easily turn hot, either if Putin sees advantage to it, or whether Her Nibbs stumbles her way into it.

“I Stacked Detainees Into Human Pyramids, Now I’m Endorsing Hillary Clinton”

There are two key reasons why it is important for me to make this
endorsement. One, all these former government officials with past
histories in U.S. wars, some who even pioneered brutal but exceptionally
good methods to defeat our enemies, have come forward to endorse
Clinton. Where are the former soldiers who were on the front lines? It
seems like she could use their endorsements as well.

    • The_Fixer

I am just in here for a short, but had to relate a story.

I was at a wedding reception not too long ago. One of the other guests was a soldier (not sure of his status at the time). He had been to Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a big Drumpfo fan, and listening to him it became clear that he was a violent and sadistic person. He hated “Hajis” and said that he liked Drumpfo because he wanted to kill them. No one could reason with him, either. Several people tried. He just didn’t care.

The guy had no business being in the civilized world. He has PTSD and often flares up at the drop of a hat. And he has a deep hatred for anyone he perceives to be a threat. He could write such an article and be totally serious about it.

This is what war gets you – it feeds the psychosis of those predisposed to violence, and sometimes turns those who aren’t into psychotic killers.

      • 17

Brainwashing. That’s how the military does it. I’m a vet. I know.

        • The_Fixer

Yes. And it all starts with an appeal to patriotism. Like every other brainwash, it starts subtly and gradually gets more overt bit by bit.

Yep. Reminds me that with the Ataturk airport bombing, I remember they said one of the people killed was a Tunisian father who had flown to Turkey to try and help his runaway son escape Syria. If the kid made/makes it out Syria alive, knowing what happened to his father must be a heavy burden for a kid.

Hilary Clinton – History Repeats Itself?

Both of this year’s US Presidential candidates have, undoubtedly, their doubles in the not so distant past. While Donald Trump’s ones lived in the 20th Century in Germany and Italy, Hilary Clinton had a homegrown predecessor; a man who was defending slavery and the status quo and who, most importantly, turned the United States into an aggressive imperialist and neo-colonialist power.

  • I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone here, but…

Clinton’s Attempts to Appeal To Republicans is Hurting Downballot Democrats

[T]he Clinton rapid response operation we deal with…[doesn’t] want us to tie Trump to other Republicans…That’s a problem….we can’t give down ballot Republicans such an easy out. We can force them to own Trump and damage them more by pointing out that they’re just as bad on specific policies…We would basically have to throw out our entire frame that the GOP made Trump through years of divisive and ugly politics. We would have to say that Republicans are reasonable and that the good ones will shun Trump…It might be a good strategy ONLY for Clinton…

    • Dosido3

It’s a good strategy for Clinton because she is a republican, natch.

    • Edwin

Nice. It’s all about her. My turn to be queen and fuck everyone else: the party, the nation, can all go fuck themselves

    • Edwin

It’s a brilliant strategy for her and her alone. She doesn’t want to win Congress. It’s better if it is filled with Republicans. She can go all bipartisan-compromise to slash SS and then also blame obstruction for fucking over the working class. It’s worked out very well for Obama.

I don’t go to any fast food restaurants so I was horrified when I saw that. So that’s what they serve up these days.

And: I don’t go to too many Fast Food joints myself. Just “Pete’s Fish and Chips,” a local grease-fest of seafood and burgers (Mmm, tasty grease) and the occasional after-midnight Taco Bell bean burrito.

“2016 Election Lawsuit Tracker: The New Election Laws and the Suits Challenging Them”

There are 15 stateswith new voting laws that have never before been used during a presidential election, according to a report by the Brennan Center for Justice. These laws include restrictions like voter ID requirements and limits on early voting. Many are making their way through the courts, which have already called a halt to two laws in the past month — one in North Carolina and one in North Dakota.

Wow. Thanks for the laffs. The comments were great. No Brock troll infestation yet. And the article was typical: two lines of straight up BS and then reposting a real writer’s work.

          • Edwin

I remember all their bullshit articles trashing Bernie and glorifying Hillary. They outdid themselves.

          • At least when I do that, I have the common decency to not pretend I’m a journalist. LOL.

          • Edwin

This one is one of my all-time favourites, by that snivelling-dumb-ass-punk Matt Osborne at OsborneInk, and picked up by Breitbart and C&L

Nope. Can’t do it. One dive was enough! 😀

          • Edwin

Your loss. He really outdid himself.

At first C&L would not post who wrote it, but we pried it our of them. I see I was a real wiseacre that day. If you say something about Matt he doesn’t like, he’ll stalk you. I know from experience.

          • 17

I almost forgot how full of shit Susie could be.

          • smkngman3

You should just post a “Best of” C&L diary.

          • Edwin

            Ha ha. With commentary?

          • smkngman3

Add the commentary on the side.

            The writing alone…….

Oh, and a bit on the background of KK, SP………………

          • Edwin

While it sounds fun it also means delving into the snake pit repeatedly and then also creating character profiles for the trashing of them and even more research. Not sure I want to go in that deep. I’d rather just lob irritating insults now and then (or always)

What I have learned is everyone is spying on everyone else so news gets back to them. (I love that because they’re fucking douchebags.)

          • Edwin

PS they’re free to call me anything they want (and they already have) because I am a nobody, just some blog commenter. They on the other hand have big name profiles on the net to protect. It’s their livelihood.

Let me know when the Billshit is over.

      • Nevin

        Bill’s speaking now.

    • Rich H

      Bill is such a POS.

    • towerofbabel

“She is determined to bring some stability.” To what Bill?

      • Nevin

This is a bad stream link with it cutting out, but I can’t find another one.

        • Rich H

It’s too good for Bill. “We need to decide if we want to be divided…… Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Can he even say anything good about his wife?

          • Nevin

Now he gets to talk about himself.

          • towerofbabel

“Hillary always prefers peace to war. Hehehe.”

        • towerofbabel

I like the quiet parts. “A little boy who Ah held in my arms. His parents are dead but he’s thriving.” Whatever Bill. Stop selling weapons to your friends. Thousands of kids end up dead.

    • Rich H

Yo Bill, get your wife to speak for herself.

    • towerofbabel

      Bill. Get off the stage.

      • Rich H

Can’t someone get him to STFU.

        • 17

          Yes. A Congressional Inquiry.

    • RTIII

      • 17

LMAO. Get Spiffy on this. We’re gonna need a shiny new crown, although I gotta think that’s hard on Ricki’s colon.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

Uh I think I’m paranoid in thinking OV is a sock puppet for ND?

          • Nevin

            Didn’t think about that.

          • 17

            OV is not ND.

          • Dosido3

            OK.

        • Edwin

          What’s up with OV??? Hmm??

          • Nevin

          • Edwin

          • Nevin

…I doubt they can make it unless it’s all done by themselves…Poor things – I pity poor Neb.

      • Nevin

Save your pity for someone that deserves it.

      • Edwin

Why pity Neb? He’s right in there trashing all of us and very happily. Fuck Neb.

The Clintons fund the Gates foundation.

“Gates Foundation : Spearheading the neoliberal plunder of African agriculture”

According to the report, the foundation’s strategy is intended to deepen the role of multinational companies in global health and agriculture especially, even though these corporations are responsible for much of the poverty and injustice that already plagues the global south. The
report concludes that the foundation’s programmes have a specific ideological strategy that promotes neo-liberal economic policies, corporate globalisation, the technology this brings (such as GMOs) and an outdated view of the centrality of aid in ‘helping’ the poor.

  • notisaidthepig

Just back from the Presidential Forum. I’ll share my thoughts for those that might be interested. When I went to pick up my ticket at Will Call, I asked about seating adn was told it was assigned. I ended up in the nosebleeds (of course!):

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      nosebleeds?

      • notisaidthepig

        yep.

      • notisaidthepig

    • Dosido3

Not bad for last minute tix.

      • notisaidthepig

I could have sat closer as there were empty seats but I wanted to be near an exit.

  • notisaidthepig

This was an Asian American Pacific Islander organization. I know nothing about them but it was very ALEC or chamber-of-commerce-like. Richard Lui from CNN was the one asking some of the candidates questions. He was awful! Making jokes and comments that fell a bit flat to me. Trying too hard in other words.

Gary Johnson was up first and I didn’t even bother to take a picture. Johnson is such a milquetoast without a shred of personality, it seems. I would describe him, to use a Trumpism, as “low-energy.” He gave the usual about less government in people’s lives and being socially liberal. At one point he mentioned getting rid of the Dept. of Education (among others). An audience member questioned him about that and he flat out lied. The people around me weren’t amused. He said that the federal government didn’t need to do anything to make sure low-income (for example) students got a good education. Because states have ways to make sure there is equity. Liar!

  • notisaidthepig

Next up was Jill Stein. There were mic problems right from the get-go. Should we be suspicious? At any rate, they came out in seconds with a hand held microphone and that wasn’t a problem any longer. She was on message the whole time. Not much new for me as I’ve heard her talk quite a bit. She came across exactly the way she does on all those YT videos we have all seen. A real person. Naturally, Lui’s questions try to derail her without success. An audience member asked a question about the Green New Deal and tried to say she was wrong about how FDR’s New Deal took care of unemployment. Stein came right back at him and respectfully said that based on the information that she’s read he was dead wrong.

  • notisaidthepig

Everything changed when Bill Clinton came on stage. Richard Lui disappeared never to be seen again. Clinton, as a former president I suppose, read a prepared statement. I have to say he didn’t look as frail to me as he sometimes has of late. He got a standing ovation….but not from me. He was so boooooring! It was all about economics and business: “we are growing more jobs” is verbatim. smdh! A bit of fearmongering: “are we going to be one country?”

But for me the pièce de résistance was when he said, and I quote exactly again, that Hillary “prefers peace to war.” He would. not. stop. talking. There was one extremely fawning question and they tried to take him off stage. Alas, Bill had his eye on another audience member and took that question. It may have been a mistake. This young person was not near a microphone so it was a bit hard to hear what he said but it was something about how can we trust Hillary. Bill’s answer, I kid you know, was many prominent Republicans trust Hillary so you should too. Ridiculous.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

She’s campaigning for Republicans that hate Trump. Bitch like I said before, needs to just become an official Republican. Might be the first honest thing she’ll ever do in her life.

      • notisaidthepig

        Yep.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          oink!

    • Dosido3

Wow. We should trust republicans. Wow.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

Remember Hillary listed Republicans as her enemies during one of the debates and now her husband is saying that Republicans trusting her is a good thing.

        • Dosido3

          Nice catch.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

Did he get booed for that Republican line?

      • notisaidthepig

No. This audience loved Bill. There were a few rumblings (the guy right next to me was agog) only.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          Oh geez.

        • Dosido3

Were they GOP or pro business org? Or?

          • notisaidthepig

They seemed pro-business to me. They did make a point of saying they are not partisan. Also, they seemed very interested in immigration issues.

          • Dosido3

That would explain their love for Bubba.

          • notisaidthepig

            Yep.

  • notisaidthepig

By the time Bill got off the stage, it was nearly 5pm. I thought it was odd that Trump would come last but it turned out to be a spokesperson. I didn’t catch his name but I did recognize him. A Filipino American representative from Utah, if I heard correctly. I decided to hit the road and head home.

    • I so love Debbie.

      • lindajoyous

I really like her too and also H. A. Goodman!

    • EdgarHF

Hillary always tags on the ‘in it’s current form’ whenever she says she’s against it. I’ve said before it’s current form does not have her Presidential signature.

    • EdgarHF

I hate Biden worse than Hillary,

  • lindajoyous

    Hi everybody, it’s hot here!

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      yea

      • lindajoyous

Hey spiffy, good to see you! 🙂

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          u2 🙂

          • lindajoyous

            🙂

    • EdgarHF

      hey

      • lindajoyous

        How are you?

        • EdgarHF

doing good. did find out today I am gong to a Monday thru Friday schedule at work starting in October.

          • lindajoyous

Ah that’s good, I have been on full disability from an on the job injury since 2000!

          • EdgarHF

            Sorry to hear that.

          • lindajoyous

            Thank you Edgar!

          • notisaidthepig

            (((hugs)))

          • lindajoyous

            {{{hugs]]] Noti back!

          • Edwin

That’s no fun. Sorry to hear.

    • I’ll turn down the air conditioning. It’s OK, it’s solar-powered!

      • lindajoyous

I have my ac on, the heat made me so sleepy!

        • It’s 104°f outside here, but with 23% humidity, it feels more like 120°, to me. I went to the store earlier today and the 5 minutes I spent walking to and from the car made me need a nap!

          • lindajoyous

That’s right you live in Arizona! Haven’t been there since I was 13!

          • Edwin

The humidity in Korea is gross, water on all 3 sides, and it’s rainy season or extra-humid time

    • Edwin

Hi Linda. Is it hotter there than it is here?

      • lindajoyous

Yeah, it was cool weather for awhile! Good to see you!

        • Edwin

Nice to see you. It’s been hot every day here since forever. Another one today.

    • EdgarHF

      Wow, freaking nuts.

    • Edwin

Seen it. I have lots of comments there.

      • 17

        I meant that specific comment.

        • Edwin

IC. Looking now. be back soon

(already thinking I’ll need a shower when I’m done)

        • Edwin

          Yup.

          Another email being compsed

    • EdgarHF

I said when I first got here I stated that I left TBR because the latest dust up was the 3rd time I saw crazy there. The first instance of crazy was when I saw a user, I now think it may have been Unkawillbur (maybe he can confirm), get berated for saying he was thinking of starting a blog. The next time was a user getting berated by Ricki because Ricki thought she was not getting enough ups from said user. I do not recall the users screen name. And like I said the third time was the Karoli was being picked on BS.

Edit: I should start editing my grammar before I post:-)

      • That was me. And I was actually offering, in a poorly-worded and roundabout way, to set up something similar to this site for Ricki, as tubmlr is a terrible way to run a blog.

        • EdgarHF

It was not poorly worded. I got the point.

          • notisaidthepig

I remember thinking the reaction was so OTT.

          • EdgarHF

So it was not just me seeing signs of crazy?

          • notisaidthepig

            Nope.

          • Edwin

Nope. But I confess, for someone who was there every day I seem to have missed out on a lot of stuff.

          • notisaidthepig

            You don’t remember this?

          • Edwin

I don’t remember anything about not getting enough upvotes.

          • 17

It wasn’t upvotes. It was that CathyX wasn’t saying Hi when greeted by the Klingon.

          • Edwin

IC. So if we weren’t 500% loyal and obedient to our hosts… (Why do they hate cathyx?) (or.. silly question)

          • notisaidthepig

Oh. I don’t remember that one either.

    • They’re clearly too scared to try that bullshit with me, I have received no correspondence. And they should be, unlike their amateurish attempt at legalese in that message, I have an actual, real lawyer at my disposal, one who can put them in a world of hurt, with Tumblr and Disqus, not just a bunch scary-sounding language cribbed from some google searches!

      • Edwin

They’ve really gone off the deep end. Sad.

      • 17

After what that stunt just cost them…I don’t think they’ll EVER try that shit again.

        • notisaidthepig

          Never underestimate crazy…..or stupid.

        • Edwin

          what cost?

  • SpiffyTheValiant

Hmm no Daniel or Ms today?

    • 17

      Camping?

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        maybe lol

        • 17

          Knew you’d get that.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            😉

          • 17

That IS what the kids are calling it these days, no?

      • lindajoyous

Hi 17, how’s your day going?

        • 17

Slow day for me, but now the grandkid’s here, so it’s even slower. Yours?

  • Hey folks, This Evening’s Open Thread is up!
