Kenny Baker, one of the most prolific and beloved Little Person actors of the last 100 years passed away today, after a long illness.
Perhaps best-known by multiple generations as R2-D2, from the Star Wars films, for my generation he was a ubiquitous presence in popular movies, from Flash Gordon, The Elephant Man, Willow and, perhaps most for me personally, the lovable Fidgit, from Time Bandits.
His niece, Abigail Shield, said it best, when she told The Guardian…
“He had a very long and fulfilled life. He brought lots of happiness to people and we’ll be celebrating the fact that he was well loved throughout the world. We’re all very proud of what he achieved in his lifetime.”
Farewell Fidgit, you may have been small in stature, but you’ll always stand tall, in my heart.
