UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • Nancy

    HA! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Dang:^)

      • Nancy

wow, I just scrolled up and saw it-that never happens!

        • Nice

          • Nancy

            how are you doing tonight?

          • Better, how are you feeling?

          • Nancy

            good! happy to hear that.
            I had a lovely day!

          • Sounds good.

    • notisaidthepig

      Nice.

      • Nancy

no more crowns-I have to do something to get the adrenaline rush!

        • notisaidthepig

          Yep.

    • Dosido3

Wow. I’m SO late to the party…

      • Nancy

        uh huh!
        but you are here now!!

  • 17

    ..

    • Beautiful.

      • 17

Living in the cornfield sometimes has its advantages.

        • Indiana same here:^)

          • 17

I just learned you were a Hoosier today. I’m sorry for your loss ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • He he:^) Actually I’m sorry to see him go Pence was such a putz that the Democratic candidate had a really good chance of creaming him in the general.
All we can hope now is that he left such a bad taste, people will go ahead and vote Democrat anyhow.

          • 17

We can hope, but you and I both know this is a red state. At least it’s not batshit red.

          • Depending on which part you live in, but yeah overall agreed.

            Are you a fellow Hoosier?

          • 17

20 minutes SE of Indy. Outside of Shelbyville.

          • I’ve been to Shelbyville once. Close to one of my favorite cities Columbus. However I would like to retire to Brown County, when the time comes I’m about 2 hours North of Indy.

I think that makes three posters here that come from Indiana.

          • 17

I lived in Brown County for awhile, up in the hills above Nashville. Beautiful country there. Nashville’s a damned tourist trap, though.

          • Ha, I’m one of those tourists…lol:^) I go every year I’ll be there sometime in November or October not sure yet. Did you ever tour TC Steele’s place?

  • I get a kick out of Bob’s Burger.

    • Dosido3

We’re trying. We failed this year but we have a friend who has a bumper crop of tomatoes coming in right now. Plus a really great farmers market.

      • TVASPEN is now Shaykayvah

Yeah, we’ve had crap year here as well, too hot and dry.

        • Sorry, last year I lost my yams too deer.

          • TVASPEN is now Shaykayvah

Are tomato plants were stunted, yet they are still producing fruit.

          • Good for sauce, anyway:^)

        • Dosido3

Yeah, not too disappointed except we spent a ton of money on cayenne pepper to keep the feckin squirrels away!

          • TVASPEN is now Shaykayvah

Ha, you use that trick as well.

          • Dosido3

Yeah and someone suggested placing corn out there too to “buy them off”. Here, squirrels…some corn…please! Not the tomatoes!

          • Did that work?

          • TVASPEN is now Shaykayvah

            Yes.

          • Ty

          • Dosido3

Yes. But you have to keep it up.

      • I had a garden last year, but I was way too busy this year. I’m blaming election year and my son getting married:^)

        • Dosido3

          Good reasons!

      • smkngman3

        Start a mulch pile!

        • Dosido3

Ok. But I still blame the gang of squirrels. They run the town.

          • smkngman3

            Use chicken wire.

          • Dosido3

Yep. I think we’re ready for full fortification…

          • smkngman3

Cheap, easy to use and keeps the critters out.

      • TVASPEN is now Shaykayvah

This the planter I built, obviously a better summer.

        • Dosido3

wow, nice job! I just now could see the photo.

          • TVASPEN is now Shaykayvah

            Thanks.

“The Thai village using poop to power homes”

After successfully lighting up their homes with solar panels and stoves fueled by cow dung, the villagers are now clean energy crusaders in a gas-guzzling country that overwhelmingly relies on fossil fuels.

It was a friend from Myanmar who first told 44-year-old Wisut Janprapai that faeces could be used to power a cooking stove.

“At first we didn’t believe it,” he told AFP from outside his wooden home, which is surrounded by fruit trees and under the shadow of a mountain range that lines Thailand’s western border with Myanmar.

Sara Teasdale wrote “There Will Come Soft Rains” in response to the Great War:

There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
    And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;

And frogs in the pools singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white,

Robins will wear their feathery fire
    Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.

Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree
    If mankind perished utterly;

And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

    • Nancy

well, that pretty much shows us how really insignificant we are.

      • notisaidthepig

Yep. The indifference is chilling. And probably accurate.

        • Nancy

really all we have done to them is fuck them up…they wouldn’t miss us in the least.

          • notisaidthepig

Did you ever see that series from …..someone. Life After Us or something like that? It was good.

          • Nancy

            yes, it is amazing…

          • notisaidthepig
          • Nancy

excellent-I might just watch this again tonight…
            thanks Noti!

          • 17

            Thanks for the correction.

          • 17

The one where the plants take over? I thought it was called “Life After Man”. Excellent show.

  • notisaidthepig

But Gary Johnson at the Presidential Election Forum I attended on Friday said he wanted to get rid of the Dept. of Education.

Education Department stops for-profit college from sidestepping federal rules

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2016/08/11/education-department-stops-for-profit-college-from-side-stepping-federal-rules/

    • Dosido3

Right. Great. That would fuck everyone over so bad, it’s not even funny.

  • notisaidthepig
  • notisaidthepig

    This one’s for Smokey:

  • notisaidthepig

Like someone else said, I am trying to eat a bit less meat. I could never be a vegetarian but have no problem with cutting down a bit. It helps that I’ve come from Asia. They eat meat but not as much. Smaller portions help too. Every little bit counts, right?

    • MsPythia

I eat meat about three or four times a month. When I do eat meat, it’s the good stuff. Expensive stuff. I eat fish though. Lots of fish. I love it.

      • notisaidthepig

I’m glad to be back in the U.S. as I feel like I have more food options now. We’ll see how that translates to my eating habits.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

A lot of junk too, just be careful.

          • notisaidthepig

So true! I keep being tempted by the Tres Leche cakes at Smoth’s. Sigh.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I know what you mean, haven’t seen it in Seattle in a few months so there’s that.

        • MsPythia

Farmers markets. I love them. I try to eat the seasonal veggies and do good stuff to them. I love good bread, but I limit carbs now that I’m over 50 because they make me gain more weight than I want. I love to do salads with roasted veggies in them, and a little good cheese, and some homemade croutons, and a piece of fish on the side. If there’s enough flavors in everything I eat, I don’t feel cheated at all. I make desserts, but usually only take a few bites and my husband eats the rest of them. I hate getting old. I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted to eat and not get fat. Not the case now. So I have to make things interesting.

          • Dosido3

I just had dinner and you’re making me hungry! ๐Ÿ™‚ I used to be a rail too. Oh well.

  • SpiffyTheValiant

Candy is wondering if licking a unicorn’s neck tastes like her favorite flavor in the world.

Since you look like cotton candy I was wondering same ๐Ÿ˜‰
(not a fan of cotton candy though)

          • Nancy

indeed. I have laughed more in the last year since getting my puppy, that I have in the last 5 years.!

        • Nancy

right…they lose that in their sofa cushions.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I know, it’d be like me reporting a penny.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

lmao wtf is that 200 hotsprings and 650 various :))

    • notisaidthepig

      But…..but….Trump!

P.S. You’re a sexist/misogynist and should be ashamed of yourself!

After Noti posted a poem by Sara Teasdale it made me think of one of my favorite poems performed by John Turturro of Howl

    https://youtu.be/Iyh3tVyuQNU

    • notisaidthepig

      Excellent.

    • Nancy

      that was great!

      • EdgarHF

It’s really an edited version of the poem, but a great reading.

        • Nancy

          …in grandfather night…
I listened to it without sound as well. it’s very different.

  • smkngman3
    • EdgarHF
      • Nancy

        very interesting.
        45 grand…that’s a nice amount go money.

      • I adore him. Cosmos was absolutely the best.

    • MsPythia

This is the truth. Anyone who pays base wages is an asshole making money off of others labor. I’m in business with my husband, but we’d rather sleep well at night and treat people like human beings than get rich off stealing a decent life away from any laborer. Some people we know think that’s crazy. So, i guess we’re crazy.

      • Nancy

        I admire and respect that!
        good for you guys!

        • MsPythia

๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks. We love these people! How can anyone cheat people and feel good about themselves?

          • Nancy

it’s funny the people that do are totally ok with it.
            I can’t imagine that.

          • MsPythia

            They’re just selfish.

          • Nancy

            greed blinds many.

      • 17

We know crazy, and you ain’t it!

        • MsPythia

          ๐Ÿ˜€

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

        Applauds MsP.

      • SpiffyTheValiant
        • notisaidthepig

          Yep. It’s all yours.

        • MsPythia

You’d have to move all the way across the country… do you know anything about construction? ๐Ÿ˜€

          • SpiffyTheValiant

๐Ÿ™ No. I thoughts it was just coming up with prettyful designs.

          • MsPythia

            That’s my job! ๐Ÿ˜€

          • SpiffyTheValiant

OH well I could be the assistant ๐Ÿ™‚

          • MsPythia

I wish I could hire you — I could use someone a lot of times!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yay

          • MsPythia

Can’t afford it though. :/ I would have to cheat the laborers then.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

It okay. I can’t afford to move :))

          • MsPythia

You should come out an visit me sometime though. Free accommodations! I’ve got a spare room. I’ll show you the sights! ๐Ÿ˜€

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 That's sweet of you. (I still don't have the money XD)

          • MsPythia

Let me know when you do. Offer stays open.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

  • Nevin

OK everyone, move along to Post Climate Change Dining (Evening Open Thread)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCEcy-zjHeo

    • Nancy

      so many “mods”…so few sheep!

      • MsPythia

Lovely how the dogs and people are working together in complete harmony — I find myself feeling sorry for the sheep. I hated that they ended up in mud puddle at the end.

        • Nevin

It is hard to find a short video.

        • Nancy

they were brilliant! I had a Belgian sheepdog. wow, just beautiful but I had to give him back to my friend that was breeding them, as he wouldn’t stop herding my daughter and her friends. go figure!

          • Nevin

My dog has herding instinct in her. It was bad walking her with my other dogs because she wanted to herd us. Even now, walking her alone, she chris crosses the street.

          • Nancy

            that’s right-they just can’t help themselves.

          • MsPythia

It’s adorable when dogs herd. They can’t help it.

          • Nevin

Now she has this habit of coming back to me and kissing my hand.

          • MsPythia

That makes me feel all squishy inside. Oh, how I miss my dog. It’s a special bond, and it’s not like any other. <3

          • Nevin

After her I’m not going to get another pet. I worry more because of my age and what would happen if I die. It will be a lonely home without them to greet me.

          • Nancy

I can’t imagine what that will be like for you.

          • Nevin

This is a photo of my buddy that died a little over a year ago. The love from her was so intense.

          • Nancy

oh I am with MS. you need to have pets-you are so full of love for them.
            such a beauty Blue-she was a doll.

          • Nevin

Thank you. People literally came up to me and said if I didn’t want her they would take her. Such a loyal companion.

          • Nancy

oh I dread the day when Rosie is gone…that’s just after having her for a year…I can’t imagine after years of that love and companionship.

          • Nevin

It is amazing how fast we bond with them. I remember years ago about the story of pet store animals and the problems people had with them. They were pissed, but it was because of how callous the store was by telling them they could return the animal and get another.

          • Nancy

oh, imagine the pain and confusion the animal goes through.
            that’s awful.

          • Edwin

            he/she looks lovely

          • Nevin

Thank you Edwin. She was a gentle soul.

          • MsPythia

You should anyway. You just have to plan ahead and give them to someone who you know you could trust if something happens to you. We should always have pets. They add too many smiles to our lives.

          • Nancy

            awe.
            hugs.

        • If it’s cold out…once that mud drys it will help to keep them warm.

          • Nevin

You learn something new every day.

          • MsPythia

            Really?! That’s good. I didn’t know that.

          • I don’t know why they were driving the sheep into the mud, just wanted to let you know that it won’t hurt them and in fact should help:^)

          • MsPythia

I’m glad. It looked cold and clammy and not pleasant. I’ve seen this before in Scotland and should have known that they’re doing that for an actual reason. It’s bothered me to see it before, but no one ever explained to me that it has a purpose. I probably should have asked!

          • I had horses and we were trained to leave a layer of dust on them in the winter months.

It seems counterintuitive to leave your animals dirty. Doesn’t feel right. So I knew what you were feeling.

          • MsPythia

It’s so good to know this. Mud is cold, but it makes perfect sense that it would make them warm once it dries. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Nevin

I’m hoping someone finds the humor in my comment and video.

        • Nancy

that’s why I called them Mods!

    • Edwin
      • Nevin

        I want one.

        • Edwin

The sheep are one of my favourite things in India/Himalaya. India has animals everywhere. Cows, of course, sheep, goats and all kinds of others. They cause major traffic jams when they cover the roads. Massive herds are sheep are shepherded throughout the Himalaya in the non-winter months.

          • Nevin

I also love the pygmy goats.

  • TVASPEN is now Shaykayvah

    It;s been real, toodles.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Laters.

    • 17

      G’nite to ya ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Nevin

      Nite Shay.

    • MsPythia

Good night Shay — sweet dreams!

    • Have a good night:^)

    • notisaidthepig

      Sweet dreams.

    • Nancy

      night!

    • Edwin

Glad you joined us. See you next time.

  • SpiffyTheValiant

That moment late at night when you turn on youtube and wave your hands over your head to a music video and grin like an idiot.

    • Nevin

      Do you do this often?

I thought I heard the other day the dem establishment was worried.

      • notisaidthepig

See my post above. They’ll just rig the election. We all know that now.

        • MsPythia

That’s the thing: that people are aware now. That’s when it stops working. It’s like that (questionably attributable) Lincoln quote:

“You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”

They’re really reaching that stage where they’re trying to fool everyone in this country that has half a brain in their head. How much can they get away with before we all hold them in contempt and laugh and jeer every time they open their mouths?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

We waited too long. They have the tech to wipe us all out.

          • MsPythia

          • MsPythia

I’m also getting tired of waiting for Assange to drop the bombs on Shillz. He needs to stop talking and start releasing whatever he’s got!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

He should have released whatever it is a long time ago. He’s already a dead man walking anyway.

          • MsPythia

I hope not — but I do agree that he’s dragging this out. I know that Wikileaks is extraordinarily careful about what they do, but their timing is not what we would wish it to be. They have their own agendas, and they don’t necessarily match ours.

“Collecting cans to survive: a ‘dark future’ as California recycling centers vanish”

But the income that many Californians rely on from canning is imperiled by a crisis for recycling centers.

Over the past 18 months, hundreds of recycling centers in California have closed โ€“ about 20% of the total โ€“ reducing the ability of people across the state to access their refunds. The greatest blow came on 31 January, when a single company announced the closure of 191 centers across the state.

A state of emergency has been issued in Louisiana where three people died and at least 2,000 were rescued in the southeast following historic rains projected to continue Sunday.

As much as 20 inches of rain has pummeled Baton Rouge, the state capital, as well as multiple nearby communities, bursting river banks, stranding motorists, and flooding shopping malls and neighborhoods, according to published reports.

Yep. No personality. I saw it with my own eye. Booooooring.

        • Nevin

Yes, no personality, but I hated his policies.

    • MsPythia

Yeah, lots of Bernie supporters need to hear this. There are some who are convinced Johnson is a good pick because he’s better on the foreign policy stuff, but it’s the domestic stuff where he’s every bit of a nightmare like the GOP.

      • smkngman3

        Pro TPP!

      • SpiffyTheValiant

I think some of them know he has no chance. They just figure he’s closer to getting to the debate stage and are going, fuck you.

        • notisaidthepig

Good point, Spiffy. I want him on the stage. But I want Stein more!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Yeah. But right now supposedly Stein is like around 6-7%. Maybe 9%. Gary is ALMOST within reach. I think some people are just saying they support him to get him on the stage as a fuck you.

          • notisaidthepig

I checked RealClearPolitics at some point today and the numbers were not as good as that. They are being “averaged.” Of course, I don’t trust the integrity of ANYTHING to do with this because both establish parties want to keep the third parties out.

Let me see if I can find that for you….Here it is. Look at these numbers. Isn’t it funny that Clinton is ahead in every poll? Sort of like those coin tosses back in Iowa. Remember that? She won every single one. She should come to Vegas and play the slots.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Yeah, the game is rigged.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

That’s it. I’m getting Kurama on the case.

This right here is what we call the rosewhip. Kurama transforms a rose into a giant whip. This whip’s thorns are capable of slicing through solid concrete.

            ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Yeah. By the way, I think they get to select which five polls are taken into account for the debates. So even if Gary and/or Jill hit over 15% in one or more polls, if they don’t hit an AVERAGE, they lose. (I think that’s the way it goes. don’t quote me.)

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Doesn’t matter, they’ll just “quote” new polls.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Exactly. There’s just no way they will be allowed to participate.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I wish they’d just storm on stage during the middle of it. Even if they didn’t get to debate. Just show up with a giant banner or something. Get arrested if you have to. Just make the stand.

          • notisaidthepig

Oh, I fully expect Jill to try to come onstage again and get arrested like last time in 2012.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

๐Ÿ™‚ With a giant banner. Gary looks to be in pretty good shape, they can do it together.

          • dayanmao

I have an idea, let’s handcuff Hillary and Trump to some chairs and lock them in a room so they can’t debate and have one between Stein and Johnson.

          • dayanmao

Yes. I think it’s bullshit too.

          • MsPythia

Yeah. “Supposedly.” I don’t believe it. And I think they’ll do whatever they have to do to keep her off the stage. The status quo is PETRIFIED by the left right now. Their every action shows this.

At least 10 Yemeni children were killed in a Saudi airstrike targeting a school in Haydan, a

          • Rich H

The citizens of Ireland are suing their government because they’ve let the U.S. use one of it’s airports as a transfer station in the “war on terror”. They don’t want to be involved in any of that BS. Good for them too. Let those who reap get what they’ve sown.

“Saudi Employer Owes Guest Workers Nearly $1 Billion in Back Pay”

The exploitation of migrant workers is turning into a full-fledged humanitarian crisis.

Dawlat Khan has worked as a health and safety officer for the construction firm Saudi Oger in Saudi Arabia for nearly eight years, but his experience took a turn for the worse 8 months ago when his monthly salary of US $2000 abruptly stopped.

According to The Middle East Eye (MEE) Khan is only one of some 50,000 Saudi Oger employees who have not been paid since last summer. The kingdomโ€™s largest private company reportedly owes employees US $800 million in back pay.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3 I'm just saying.

    • Dosido3

What happens if they quit to find work that pays?

      • Nevin

Probably the same as when you worked for them.

      • smkngman3

They’re stuck in a foreign country without money.

      • Edwin

Some employers hold their passports, their visa probably ties them to that job. If they leave that job they have to get out of the country or become illegal immigrants and be hunted down, fined, jailed and deported. Shit like that. Seen it in Korea.

        • Dosido3

          ugh~

    • Edwin

This kind of shit happens all over the world. Rich countries (Korea) attract workers to do jobs the local people don’t want to do and then they treat them like shit, and sometimes even treat them like criminals.

  • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Well time for bed. Don’t really want to go to work though, bah. For noti, I hope the orientation or whatever they’re calling it goes well (is it this week or next?).

    • Edwin

      Good night, D.

    • Nevin

Nite handsome. Always a pleasure to see you.

    • Goodnight Daniel:^)

    • notisaidthepig

Good night, Toad. My orientations begin on Tuesday. So I’ll have the Sunday Dreads tomorrow night. Sleep well, my friend.

    • MsPythia

      ((Hug)) for you Daniel. <3

  • SpiffyTheValiant

Well cat urinated on my desk. Then I shooed him out of my room. He got on the kitchen table. He fell. He went splat. I thought he had broken his leg or something. he wasn’t getting up and he was making these terrifying sounds.

So I had to wake my mom up. Cause I didn’t wanna risk moving him. By the time, I got her he was up. He’s standing now but his feet are outwards and just wrong. He was panting and purring really heavily. Got the cat in 2000. So he’s at least 16 and he wasn’t a kitten when we got him. I estimate him to be about 18-20 years old. I am pretty sure we are going to end up having to put him to sleep.

    • Nevin

      No.

      • lindajoyous

        Hi Blue

        • Nevin

Evening Linda. You’ve been quiet today.

          • lindajoyous

I was so sleepy and took a nap, How are you?

          • Nevin

I’m fine thank you. How are you?

          • lindajoyous

You’re very welcome, I’m good, thank you!

      • SpiffyTheValiant

Hate to say it, but if he’s getting to the point where he falls, he can’t get up and is crying like that, something is seriously wrong. He’s eating all the time and we can still feel the bones in his spine. We gave him worm pill awhile ago, he’s still not putting on weight.

        • MsPythia

          (((Hugging you and the kitty)))

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            *hugs back*

          • MsPythia

Going to the vet? What’s going on? Kitty recovering, or still stressed out?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

well of course this happened at 1 am… so obviously can’t go to the vet yet. he’s just kinda sitting on the kitchen table. i guess he’s stablized for now.

          • There’s no Emergency Vet in your area?

          • Rich H

They probably cost as much as going to the emergency room. Just saying.

          • The one closest to me isn’t. Same prices as my regular vet.

          • Rich H

That’s a surprise, maybe everything costs more in southern CA. Going to the vet here is Expensive.

          • Oh, Vets are pricey, no doubt about it. It’s just these “Emergency Animal Clinic” places don’t gouge people in a crisis situation.

          • Rich H

            That’s nice to know.

          • I’m glad that your vet doesn’t take advantage of a situation like that.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            i dont think so.

          • Might be worth a Google search.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yeah

          • It sucks to feel powerless to help. <3 Hang in there.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3

          • MsPythia

I hope he will be okay. Sending out some healing vibes for the kitty.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Thanks but I sense it’s just his time.

          • MsPythia

Oh Spiffy — I’m so sorry! <3 Love you.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3 thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

          • MsPythia

I just want to be here if you want to talk. How is he doing now?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            I’ll check.

          • MsPythia

Sometimes they want attention when they’re sick, and sometimes they don’t want any when they’re very sick. It’s hard to tell.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yeah

          • MsPythia

It’s hard to keep a vigil. I just want to keep it with you if you need that. If you think he’ll be okay, I don’t want to keep you up…

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Sitting on kitchen table, nibbling at his food. Looks normal for now.

          • MsPythia

            Good! If he’s eating that’s good. <3

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yes. he’s eating ๐Ÿ™‚

          • MsPythia

That’s really good. If he was very, very sick he wouldn’t eat at all. Maybe he just had a bad fall? It happens to the best of us! ๐Ÿ™‚

          • SpiffyTheValiant

You had to be here to hear the sounds he was making. I don’t think it was just a bad fall. But we’ll see what the vet says.

          • MsPythia

I’m so sorry! He’s so old though. Maybe it really hurt to fall like that? They can get very vocal about pain when they’re old. My dog did too in the last year. Any little pain he had he started making a fuss.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Could be. I’ve kinda just accepted it. Maybe I’ll be surprised. But it’d be like finding your 80-90+ year old grandpa had fallen down. At a certain point, you kinda expect it…

          • MsPythia

Yeah. I know. My dog was like that too. You have to start letting go at some point because you know they don’t have long. In some ways the end was some of the best time, because I was aware it was only a matter of time before we had to say goodbye. I spoiled him, and gave him everything he loved the most. ๐Ÿ™‚

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3 awe lucky dog.

          • MsPythia

He was the best dog I ever had. I wonder if I’ll ever have another so sweet and good and mellow. My dog really was the best.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            ๐Ÿ™‚

          • MsPythia

I guess everyone says that about their dogs. that’s because dogs are like people. cats are too to their owners. they’re our familiars. they know everything about us, and they love us, no questions asked. there’s nothing more deep than that.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

    • notisaidthepig

      Oh, no. Poor cat!

      • lindajoyous

Good evening, linda. Hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying your evening.

          • lindajoyous

Not to bad was so sleepy and took a nap! How are you?

          • notisaidthepig

I had a bit of a nap this afternoon myself. AND I’m feeling sleepy now. I’m just going to enjoy all this sleep…..

          • lindajoyous

    • Oh hon, I’m sorry.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

yeah. just a bad year for pets I guess. Seems like everyone around here is losing one.

      • lindajoyous

        Hi Stephanie!

    • smkngman3

Better to put her to sleep than regret later not having done so.

But it’s tough to let go.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

Boy cat, but yeah. ;/ There’s not much point in making him suffer. but will see what vet says. maybe whatever it is, is fixable.

    • Rich H

I’m sorry to hear that. A benefits of purring is it’s one way cats use to heal themselves.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

I heard they did it to get attention, even if they were hurt.

        • Rich H

I’m sure there’s more to it than I know (o.k., like everything else). BTW, I had a kitty that lived into her 20’s. She was awesome – so he may be alright.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            maybe.

          • Rich H

            Hopefully.

      • Good seeing you Rich:^)

        • Rich H

Hi Stephanie, it seems I’m usually here late when every one is signing off.

          • The joys of being in California :^) You peeps out west keep me up way too late.

          • Rich H

True, but it’s been hotter than hell here.

          • What was the temperature today in your neck of the woods?

          • Rich H

Low compared to the past few months, about 98 or 99. You?

          • Yep, that would be some miserable heat there. About the last week we’ve had lower 90s so we aren’t too far behind you, though for a much shorter time period.

          • Rich H

My poor garden, it was too hot for anything to grow this year. Very disappointing.

          • Oh sorry to hear that:/ So much work energy, and time.

          • Rich H

Oh well, even the fruit trees had little to nothing on them.

          • Since California is expected to stay in drought. Do you think you might move?

          • Rich H

No, with climate change were bound to become the tropical part of the U.S. at some point.

          • Edwin

Canada will be the place to be (it already is, but… )

          • Rich H

You’re not kidding. We’ve talked about Vancouver a few times.

          • Edwin

So expensive. Depends if you wanna be a big city slicker or just find yourselves a nice patch somewhere and settle down.

One day, when I go back, I want a small town, or rural setting near a small city.

          • Rich H

I’d like to be somewhere green. Like I’ve done with my backyard. But Bigger! Yeah, as long as we have a business we’re kind of stuck living in the city.

          • Edwin

I guess I’m tired of city life. Too long in Seoul. I want mud between my toes.

          • Yeah most people are. Either there locked-in by lack of funds to move or responsibility obligation and family where they’re already at.

It’s past my bedtime so I’m going to go to sleep, you have a great night Rich:^)

          • Edwin

            Good night, Stephanie.

          • lindajoyous

            Goodnight Stephanie!

          • Edwin

Me too. Even my tomato plants look very poorly. (how bad is that?)

          • You have the rooftop garden, don’t you?

          • Edwin

Yes. Pots on concrete. Usually the tomatoes are fine though.

          • Yeah that concrete will heat them up even more.
I’ve killed more than one plant leaving them on my concrete front door stoop. South-facing no less.

          • Edwin

It’s on the west so from about 10 am to sunset they get full sun and it gets HOT here.

This week I have been putting sheets of newspaper over some things to keep the sun off. It’s too much for my impatiens and I have a few big beautiful pots of those– multiple colours, very festive.

          • The Newpaper is a smart move.

I feel bad that everybody’s Garden seems to be suffering this year. Between canvassing for Bernie Sanders and preparing for my son’s wedding, I was just too busy to do mine. I’m going to have to build up my fence this fall because deer was my problem last year.

          • Edwin

I don’t care about the food part. That’s more for fun because I don’t have enough space to harvest any major amount, but I want my flowers to be gorgeous–damnit!!!! And it;s just nice when everything is lush, green and blooming.

If I had deer I’d let them in the yard and probably encourage them to come.

          • I have 12 Acres the deer are more than welcome in my yard, just not my garden:^)

I have a particular fondness for green things:^)

            Have a good night Edwin.

          • Edwin

Is it hotter there than it is here?

          • Rich H

That’s a good question, it’s probably hotter in Korea.

          • Edwin

It’s always the humidity here. So friggin humid!! Plus it’s just darn hot.

    • MsPythia

      Oh no! I’m so sorry!

    • Edwin

      Sorry to heat that.

George Soros got hacked … big time . This could get interesting .

    https://www.rt.com/usa/355919-soros-hacked-files-released/

    • MsPythia

God, I love hackers. I love anyone so fearless in the face of the oligarchs.

      • Nevin

There is something rewarding living off the mainstream that is rewarding.

        • MsPythia

Living off of, or trying to disrupt it, that’s the question. If it’s for fame on the one hand, or to help our entire society on the other. That’s the question. Sometimes it doesn’t even seem to matter. ๐Ÿ™‚ We’ll take it no matter what the motivation happens to be.

          • Nevin

I don’t like being pigeonholed. You back me into a corner and I will be the one walking away.

          • MsPythia

? Can you elaborate more? Trying to figure what you mean in relation to hackers… If I’m grasping what I think you mean, it’s that we’ve been backed into a corner by those don’t mind crushing everybody. That’s why they need to be undermined all the time.

          • Nevin

Son of a bitch my comment to you was completely wiped away by a Disqus error. Give me a minute to regroup

          • MsPythia

Okay. No stress. that sucks when that happens.

          • Nevin

            Thank you.

          • kreskin

I have the same reaction when it happens to me . LOL

          • Nevin

I’ll never be undermined. What I am saying is you back me into a corner and I am the one that is going to be walking away from it.

          • MsPythia

The 1% has backed everyone into a corner. But that’s nothing new. They’ve been doing that for fucking ever. I want us to back them up against the wall for a change. That’s the whole idea when it comes to being a leftist. You have to do it in the right way though, or we end up dead. There’s a science to that, but that has nothing to do with hackers. They’re anarchists. ๐Ÿ˜€

          • Nevin

I come for the 1%. They are not all bad. My grandpa never finished elementary school and ended up owning the company he worked for. My mom, too embarrassed, ask the limo driver to drop her off a few blocks from work. We’ve talked about this, exposing too much of ourselves on the internet. Slams mouse in frustration.

          • MsPythia

You’re right, they’re not all bad. But those that hackers go after ARE bad. The only problem with hackers is that there’s no organization because they’re anarchists, so what they do is always on their own (sometimes mysterious) schedules. It’s hard to build for anything with people who don’t believe in the concept of a plan of action. ๐Ÿ™‚

            And yet, I love them.

          • Edwin

They’re the rogue agents, the supermans, the spidermans, the batmans of our world. They should kick “bad guy” ass.

          • MsPythia

But timing, sir! Timing is important! How can we get the bad guys with anarchy alone?! It’s funny, I can’t be a commie because I don’t believe in the heavy dogma baggage, and I can’t be an anarchist because I think concerted plans are what make things happen. I have always had to straddle the two ideas ideologically — and I’ve always thought that a great idea! Unfortunately, the two groups are locked into their own camps, but I’ve always suspected the key lies between the two.

          • Edwin

            So we should become Anarcho-commies.

            A feel-good film about anarchy.
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWq5YnH6n6c

          • MsPythia

I’m bookmarking so I can watch that tomorrow. yes. anarcho-socialist/communist. that’s where I land on lots of things. I believe in democracy and the drive of individuals and groups into actions they feel are appropriate in the moment rather than letting “the Party leadership” decide what will happen “on behalf” of the people. And I don’t believe that violence and coercion is the way to achieve a better society.

          • Edwin

I’ve watched the film 3X. I just like it.

          • MsPythia

I bet I will too. Thanks Edwin — and good night to you! ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Edwin

I hope so. It’s a unique format. Good night.

          • kreskin

If it exposes the corrupt and benefits society I don’t care what the motivation is .

          • Nevin

Exactly. This is not about fucking conspiracies.

          • kreskin

            No , it isn’t . They’re being exposed , getting flat out busted .

          • Nevin

            There is no conspiracy.

          • kreskin

The conspirators are getting busted … left and right .

          • Nevin

            Who are they?

          • kreskin

The people being exposed by the hackers are the conspirators , not the hackers .

          • Edwin

Rip the mask off, expose them all, throw them in jail. Fuck ’em.

          • MsPythia

I don’t either. There are people who attack Assange, Anonymous, LOLsec and others with the claim that they’re just egomaniacs. I have to laugh. I don’t actually give a shit. We’re being lied to, and whatever motivates them, I’m good with that.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            LOLsec?

          • MsPythia

            they’re another hacker cooperative.

            ah

I am very happy for you.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Now you have and you are famous ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Nevin

For those into conspiracy theories…MsP is undermining my comments by causing a Disqus error. I think at the moment and trying to create what I thought 10 minutes ago is taxing. I have seen the devil and it is she.

    • MsPythia

LOL! I am not! I’m a good Oracle.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        lol good night guys.

        • MsPythia

Good night Spiffy! I hope your cat recovers. Poor baby. Sleep well.

        • Edwin

Good night. Hope your cat will be OK.

      • Nevin

Featured comment looks good on you.

    • kreskin

I thought you were serious there for a second . LOL

      • Nevin

Kreskin, when I am serious you will know.

      • Edwin

        Here we go again???

Why do I miss everything? :/

        • Nevin

          What’s happening Edwin?

          • Edwin

            I dunno.

            I see you’ve been travelling.

          • Nevin

You know something I don’t. Is it in reference to my comment to Ricki?

          • Edwin

IC. I refreshed and kreskin changed his comment —(took out, “here we go again”)

And, yes, I have seen you comment at tbr

          • Nevin

I like you Edwin. I’m not into games. If you have a problem with what I said or where I said it don’t pussyfoot around it.

          • Edwin

Nothing going on. Kreskin said, “here we go again”. I made a joke about missing everything. (nothing more)

          • Nevin

That wasn’t a joke Edwin. That was you trying to put down kreskin.

          • Edwin

How do you figure that? Not putting down kreskin. Why would I? (I like kreskin.)

          • Nevin

            “Here we go again???
Why do I miss everything? :/”

Maybe I don’t understand your sense of humor Edwin.

          • Edwin

I thought there was some kind of “event” I missed. The end.

          • Nevin

OK. I’m going to step back from this blog.

          • Nevin

Here is my comment at TBR.

“Ricki I don’t know why you go on these rants against people that
cared for you. I understand your pain losing a husband to murder. I
had a 357 magnum held to my head and was raped for several hours. At one
point I wished my rapist would have killed me, but I survived. I
vowed to not let that night define me.

What do you think you are going to accomplish terrorizing people? These people didn’t create your
life. These people had nothing to do with your husbands death. These are people that tried to be your friend on the internet and for whatever
            reason you pushed them away.

I’ve seen your rants here go on for several hours. I have no idea who you are talking to. It is obvious you are in pain. Enablers are not friends. They need your blood to survive.

I always liked you Ricki. I hope you find peace. I’m not your enemy.”

What in my comment did you find offensive Edwin?

          • Edwin

Where did I say I found it offensive? What am I missing here?

          • Nevin

The only one that talked about “here we go again” is you Edwin.

          • Edwin

It was in kreskin’s comment, but obviously he edited it out.

I refreshed to see MsP’s featured comment and it was gone (from his comment). That’s it. That’s what happened.

          • kreskin

            I did edit it out . .

          • Nevin

            Why?

          • kreskin

Did so almost right away . Thought that it might be taken wrong. No big deal .

          • Nevin

It is a big deal now. Edwin and I have been going around with one another because of what he saw and what I didn’t see.

          • kreskin

Not my problem . Are we not allowed to do any editing ?

          • Nevin

I was fucking defending you because I thought someone was slighting you.

          • kreskin

Thanks , but that was your mistake , not mine .

            Good night ,Nev .

          • Nevin

            Fuck off.

          • kreskin

            Ditto that .

          • Edwin

            ๐Ÿ™

          • Edwin

You have been going around with me. I have not been going around with you, only trying to defend myself.

Seriously, don’t get what’s up. I made the comment to kreskin not you. It was a joke. It did not involve you whatsoever. Why are you hounding me about it?

          • kreskin

Seems that some one’s a little uptight tonight , doesn’t it ? LOL

            Night , Edwin .

          • Edwin

            Good night, kreskin.

            (We love Nevin)

          • kreskin

He fucks up , then attacks me for it . Gotta love it . G-nite.

          • Edwin

            see you tomorrow :~>

          • Edwin

            thank you, kreskin

not sure why all the upset– me being a wiseacre (so unusual)

In overwhelming vote, leading Lutheran branch calls on US to cut off aid to Israel

This weekend the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) overwhelmingly approved two resolutions calling on the U.S. government to end all financial and military aid to Israel until Israel โ€œcompl[ies] with internationally recognized human rights standardsโ€, freezes settlement construction on occupied Palestinian land, and for the church to adopt an investment screen to avoid profiting from Israelโ€™s Occupation, at ELCAโ€™s triennial 2016 Churchwide Assembly in New Orleans. ELCA is one of three Lutheran church bodies in the U.S.

    • notisaidthepig

I wonder if the tide is turning with respect to Israel. It’s certainly long overdue..

      • 17

Does kinda seem that way, doesn’t it? And yes, VERY long overdue.

Killing Russians โ€“ Ex-CIA Chief Clarifies US Duplicity

In a twisted sort of way, we should thank Michael J Morell, the former CIA deputy director. At last, we have official clarity on what has up to now been a US policy of deception over its criminal, covert involvement in Syriaโ€™s conflict. He says US policy should be to kill Russian military personnel. No qualms, no quibbles. Kill them.
That there wasnโ€™t an immediate furor among the Western media and public over Morellโ€™s Murder Inc machinations just goes to show how debased Western moral and legal standards have become. Probably due to inurement from decades of barbarity and lawlessness of Western governments waging criminal wars in the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa and Latin America.

NEO โ€“ George Soros: โ€œLetโ€™s Call the Terrorists a Taxi!โ€

In America a surreal presidential race is winding toward its ultimate crescendo. In a symphony of unbelief, a people of a once great nation are serenaded by two bitterly sour notes droning in the air. โ€œHillary for presidentโ€ leaves people of any real moral fortitude screaming inside their heads, as if theyโ€™ve been blasted with a shrieking air raid siren.

As for Donald Trumpโ€™s bid for Americaโ€™s highest office, jittery liberals and conservatives alike shudder at the thought of โ€œThe Donaldโ€™sโ€ first state of the union address. Neither major candidate is what anyone would
call โ€œpresidentialโ€. Election 2016 is going exactly as manipulators like George Soros planned. Another presidency is set to be owned, lock-stock-and-barrel, by the biggest thieves in the world.

    Americaโ€™s โ€œHumanitarian Warโ€ against the World

Historically, science has supported the development of the weapons industry and the war economy. โ€œScience for Peaceโ€ indelibly requires reversing the logic whereby commissioned scientific endeavors are directed towards supporting what President Eisenhower called โ€œThe Military Industrial Complexโ€.

What is consequently required is a massive redirection of science and technology towards the pursuit of broad societal objectives. In turn, this requires a major shift in what is euphemistically called โ€œUS Foreign Policyโ€, namely Americaโ€™s global military agenda.

Wikileaks Says They Have 1,700 Emails Proving Hillary Clinton Knew about U.S. Military Weapons Shipments to Al Qaeda and ISIS

Wikileaks head Julian Assange says he has proof that Hillary Clinton lied under oath while giving a public testimony following the 2013 Benghazi terrorist attack. Assange says Wikileaks has 1,700 emails proving Clintonโ€™s statements that she was not involved or aware of any sale of weapons to Syrian โ€œrebelsโ€ were a lie. In fact, Assange notes that the former Secretary of State was fully aware of the United Statesโ€™ involvement in arming rebels in Libya in a bid to help them overtake Qaddafi. Ultimately, it is alleged that those same weapons then made their way to the Islamic State in Syria.

        • 17

      • 17

        Loads and plays good here.

        • Shohanna

Hmm.. I need to reload my windows still, my javascript and blocking is still messed up from that malware I some how got. I still can’t tell you how it got through my firewall. ๐Ÿ™

          • 17

You can’t count on a firewall to prevent infection. Nasties can ride in on approved sources. Get that anti-virus beefed up.

          • Shohanna

I have anti-virus and it went through anyway. I paid good money for ZoneAlarm extreme security, antivirus and firewall.

          • notisaidthepig

Enjoying my final day before work starts! So, being lazy in other words!

          • Nancy

nice! we are lucky we got to have so much of you!
are you excited to get back at it? I imagine it will be a real change to be teaching in the States after being away for so long…

          • notisaidthepig

will definitely be seeing less of me once work starts but i won’t totally disappear!

after being away for so long, i’m curious to see how things have….progressed here in the states. not much, methinks. also, i’ve got two friends from my days in jamaica that work in the district and they say i will be miles ahead pedagogically from my peers. i won’t mind that!

          • Nancy

hahaha… bet that’s ok with you!
it will be good to hear all about it!

      • Nancy

        yup…

Republicans are never afraid to go for what they want. As despicable as they are, they go for the throat. Democrats could have learned a lesson from this.

      • Nancy

I think they let republicans do their dirty work for them. I doubt they will be upset with this given how many of them are the 1% and will totally benefit from this bill being passed.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

Democrats just like to play Good Cop to the Republicans Bad Cop. Same side. I was such a blind spiffy.

          • Nancy

I think they fooled a lot of us. there is no more pretending now and they don’t care who knows what they are like.

      • Edwin

they all had a big party, both sides, afterward and laughed at how stupid and gullible the American public is

      • Blue Basilisk

The Democrats go for what they want. They pretend to go for what YOU want and them tell you they just couldn’t do it.

    • Edwin

And what did they cut to offset those? (Isn’t that the rule?)

      • Nancy

        school lunches?

        • Edwin

          teacher pay
