Lights Out! (Evening Open Thread)

Aug 16, 2016

US Power GridsEveryone knows that the United States’ basic infrastructure is, to use a word, “ghetto“, but the worst part of that failing infrastructure has the potential to cause a societal collapse the likes of which even the paranoid black-helicopter set can’t even imagine:  The Electrical Grid.

Over at oilprice.com, What Will You Do When The Lights Go Out?

To give it to you straight, our national electrical grid works as an interdependent network. This means that the failure of any one part would trigger the borrowing of energy from other areas. Whichever grid attempts to carry the extra load would likely be overtaxed, as the grid is already taxed to near max levels during peak hot or cold seasons.

The aftermath of a single grid going down could leave millions of residents without power for days, weeks or longer depending on the scope of the failure.

A comforting thought as you go to bed tonight. Have you thought about such a nationwide grid failure, what plans have you made?

Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

    first

  • Me? I’ve got a 45 watt solar system, with charging controller with 12v and 5v outputs, 2 12v batteries and an inverter!

    • How much did that set up cost you?

      • About $700. The inverter and the battery were the priciest thing, the panels I got from, of all places, Harbor Freight. Had a lot of off-grid friends recommended the system they sell as reliable and cheap and it does work quite well. I can run 4 12vDC, 800 lumen lights for days, off one full battery.

Using the inverter is far more intensive. In my tests, I’ve been able to keep my small AC chest-freezer running for about 2 hours a day, which is enough to keep things frozen in it. To use a lot of regular AC power would probably double the cost of the system, mostly for new panels and batteries, as my controller and inverter can handle the extras.

        • Thanks :^) everytime I look into solar, it is just well beyond my budget. Thank you for the info and the link this is definitely a more doable price range.

      • Here’s their basic system. Panels, Controller and lights. No inverter or battery. But this system is enough to keep your devices charged and some lights on. Add a battery for overnight lighting. Add some 12v DC devices/adapters(like for your laptop) and you can live without mains for quite a while.

Thanks to a judge’s order, Google must face another proposed class-action lawsuit over its scanning of Gmail. The issue is a lingering headache for the search giant, which has faced allegations for years now that scanning Gmail in order to create personalized ads violates US wiretapping laws.

In a 38-page order (PDF), US District Judge Lucy Koh rejected Google’s argument that the scanning takes place within the “ordinary course of business.”

“Not every practice that is routine or legitimate will fall within the scope of the ‘ordinary course of business’,” Judge Koh wrote.

“While we cannot surmise the attacker’s identity or motivation nor where or how this pilfered trove came to be, we can state that several hundred tools from the leak share a strong connection with our previous findings from the Equation group,” Kaspersky researchers wrote in a blog post published Tuesday afternoon.
The finding is significant because it lends credibility to claims made by a mysterious group calling itself ShadowBrokers. When members of the previously unknown group claimed in a blog post that they hacked Equation Group and obtained never-before-seen exploits and implants it used, outsiders were understandably skeptical. The publication of state-sponsored hacking tools is an extremely rare if not unprecedented event that is sure to catch the attention of leaders all over the world.

The connection linking more than 300 computer files in the ShadowBrokers archive to Equation Group is found in a common implementation of the RC5 and RC6 encryption algorithms. Among other things, the leaked ShadowBroker files use the negative constant -0x61C88647 instead of the more standard 0x61C88647 to speed up subtraction operations. Kaspersky researchers scoured 20 different compiled versions of RC5/6 code in Equation Group malware and found functionally identical code, leaving little doubt that there was a clear connection between the two.

I know what it’s like when the lights go out. I lived in California when Enron screwed us over, and we had rolling blackouts.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      eep.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Such a scam that was.

    • Annaleigh

Oh yeah. Yikes. Poor Gray Davis catching the blame for that.

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

He was an incompetent and blah Dem as well. Pretty establishment type, but the whole thing was such a scam.

        • Annaleigh

True, I had no love for the guy. Voted for the recall, although I’m not sure if that was the wisest decision given who we wound up with in his place.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Machine politics is such a double edged sword, it brings out corruption in one party and lots of voter apathy which then causes things like Arnold and Trump to happen.

          • Annaleigh

            Yup.

          • Annaleigh

This is who I had supported to replace Davis, it’s a pity he never had a chance and the election was a shitshow anyway with all the joke candidates mixed in with the serious ones: http://digital.library.ucla.edu/websites/2003_999_134/

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

He sounds great which is why the media will keep tearing him down 🙁

          • Annaleigh

That election was so ridiculous and there were so many candidates that the only media coverage he got was in the Bakersfield area. The rest of the media got distracted by people like Mary Carey.

Both Snowden and Dave Aitel, an offensive security expert who spent six years as an NSA security scientist, are speculating that Monday’s leak by a group calling itself Shadow Brokers is in response to growing tensions between the US and Russia over the hacks on the Democratic groups. As this post was being prepared, researchers with Kaspersky Lab confirmed that the tools belong to Equation Group, one of the most sophisticated hacking groups they’ve ever investigated. Ars will have more on this development in an upcoming story.

“Why did they do it?” Snowden wrote in a series of tweets early Tuesday morning. “No one knows, but I suspect this is more diplomacy than intelligence, related to the escalation around the DNC hack.”

I will say one thing that’s good about (mainstream) Mormon culture, the whole thing they have about maintaining a year’s worth of emergency supplies is such a wise idea. My ex used to have one even when it was just him in his small apartment.

    • I’d like to keep such, but it’s darn pricey to maintain such a supply. I do maintain a 3-person, 30 day supply at @1000 calories each though. Pasta, Rice & Beans are your friends, in such a situation. LOL.

      • Edwin

that means you can invite 2 of us to your place

Snyder was a whip for Pennsylvania’s Bernie Sanders delegation, and one of the two delegates she noticed sitting at the bar was a delegate assigned to her. Her job as whip was to get her assigned delegates to the big Bernie Sanders meeting and make sure they received and understood communications from the Sanders team. But all she could think about at that very late moment was that perhaps the delegates would let her slip between them to get close enough to ask the bartender for the fork she needed to finally eat something.

As luck would have it, the delegates wanted to chat, and Snyder fielded questions about her day. “You need a hug,” her assigned delegate said after he heard her unenthusiastic assessment.

Snyder hesitated, then reached to give him what she describes as “an arm hug, a glorified pat on the shoulder.”

But he pulled her into a bear hug instead, according to Snyder. And then, she said, he began aggressively licking her breast.

Were DNC volunteers and staffers trained to respond to assault and harassment reports? Were there signs publicizing the DNC’s anti-harassment policy, and the mechanisms for reporting it? Were code of conduct and FAQs outlining what to do to when witnessing or reporting harassment in every delegate’s “swag bag?”

Snyder says that she never saw any anti-harassment policy signage in public places, or on printed materials she received. Neither does she remember signing any code of conduct agreement — something the DNC reportedly employed to strip credentials from a delegate who had an “inappropriate interaction” with another delegate right after the convention first convened on Monday.

  • Edwin

You decide. (I never eat cereal.)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwD1bQOxhtM

    • cathyx

Nope. I stay away from all grains. And the milk that makes Jimmy Dore gassy? That’s what happens when you drink Ultra-pasteurized milk. Regular pasteurized milk won’t have that effect. Companies are turning to ultra-pasteurized because it increases the shelf life of the milk by weeks and it’s becoming more and more prevalent in the dairy cases. It’s getting harder and harder for me to find regular pasteurized milk and half and half. It’s making people think they are lactose intolerant, which they most likely are not. And it’s therefore, increasing the market for nutmilks and fake creamers.

      • Edwin

I didn’t know any of that. I drink about 1.5 oz of milk a day in my coffee, and that’s it. Koreans (Asians) are not much into dairy, but I do buy milk and ice cream. The ice cream makes me fat, but I like it.

        • cathyx

I put half and half in my coffee, otherwise i don’t drink milk either. I discovered the ultra-pasteurized connection all on my own after suffering the same thing Jimmy did, then did some google research and found out I wasn’t alone.

          • Edwin

There are very few dairy products for sale here. Asians don’t drink milk. It’s a modern Western thing.

          • cathyx

They didn’t grow up with a corporate government pushing a food pyramid to sell their products.

          • Edwin

People that are my age were lucky to have food when they were growing up. The food pyramid would have been to eat some rice if you can get any.

          • Edwin

I think “The Good Wife” did an episode about the food pyramid. What didn’t they do a show about. I loved that show. :~>

          • MsPythia

Don’t many asian people tend toward lactose intolerance?

          • Edwin

I don’t know about that. Dairy is a western thing. Most of Asia was very poor 50 years ago. They ate only local stuff and I doubt there were cows running around.

          • MsPythia

Yeah, I like half and half in coffee and if I’m drinking black tea.

      • MsPythia

        I love almond milk.

    • notisaidthepig

I loved cereal as a kid but here the thing: I hated putting milk in my cereal. Yep, you read that correctly. I would eat the cereal dry. And Captain Crunch was THE best. What a sugar rush! As an adult, I was drawn to Crispy Wheats and Raisin. Really liked that. But I haven’t had cereal in about 20 years now. I prefer eggs and bacon (no comments please!).

      • MsPythia

I loved Capt’n Crunch as a kid too — but it did that weird thing by cutting the roof of your mouth! Do you know what I’m talking about?

        • cathyx

I know what you’re talking about. I grew up eating cereal every morning too. I liked all of the different cereals except the healthy ones.
          Morning MsP.

          • MsPythia

            Morning Cathy!

      • Edwin

The last 8 months I have been having my homemade lentil soup for breakfast. Before that I had coffee and cigarettes for 35 years (and I always enjoyed it.) Almost 8 months no smoking now.

    • This guy, with his status-quo-approved default-derision for millennials can go suck it. I’m no millennial, not by a long shot, but the ones I know are informed, motivated, and poetically active. Millennials have gotten the short end of the stick, after two generations of idiots allowing this country to go down hill, and those two generations have the fucking gall to blame the millennials. It sickens me.

Really, the most cynical, un-motivated, politically in-active people I know are from my own generation.

Scranton PA Cops – “Feared for My Life” – Shoot Mannequin 67 Times

Across the country there have recently been several initiatives to teach people how to comply with police officers to ensure the safety of both parties. Unfortunately for one bullet ridden dummy, these ‘educational’
outreaches have not made their way into mannequin communities.

    • The_Fixer

Sad thing is that it could happen.

      • 17

You know it probably has, and went unreported.

        • The_Fixer

I wouldn’t doubt it. I have known a few cops over the years and have heard their stories. What we hear about is bad enough, what we don’t hear about is the stuff that will keep you up at night.

          • 17

And what we see that’s been filmed “never happened”. H/T Rodney King.

  • MsPythia
    • What we really need from solar is decentralized, localizes, on-site generation and storage. All this centralized generation and distribution stuff is century-old bunk that’s gone far past useless, into dangerous and only still exists because moneyed interests are holding us back.

      • MsPythia

Good point — but maybe what we need is both though? There are parts of the country that probably couldn’t power up with the amount of solar power they could store, but it could be designed to switch back and forth from local power to centralized power.

        • Localized Wind + Solar can, actually, cover about 99%.

          • MsPythia

Yeah, it’s a no brainer to do this. It’s Big Oil and our bought off government that keeps us from having this. It also sends us into wars, and creates widespread destabilization and terrorism.

          • Shohanna

Yes it would, and it would remove the elite from control, so of course they won’t do that.

      • Shohanna

I slightly disagree about why it’s centralized. It’s centralized so the monied interest can black mail the people to do their bidding or have to live without. They do it so only the monied interests have control of WHO gets it.

  • MsPythia

    • Denny’s? Uhg, that actually dings my respect for him, a bit. A tiny, tiny bit, to be sure, but some, nonetheless. I hope I never get so old that I find eating at Denny’s acceptable. LOL

      • MsPythia

        Same. It’s awful.

      • The_Fixer

Any time I see a Denny’s, I remember something that happened to me a long time ago in a Denny’s.

I was sitting at the counter (something I never do anymore, sit at any restaurant counter) and a seemingly nice older guy struck up a conversation with me. He rambled on about a number of things. Then he came to “women’s lib.” He summed up his attitude pretty quickly: “Women just need a good man, that’s all. And all a man wants out of a woman is to keep her privates clean, put a decent meal on the table and to give him what he wants in the bedroom!”

I suspect that this guy was the reason why feminism is necessary.

        • MsPythia

          And you’d be correct! 😀

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, he was raised in a different time and to him, it was acceptable to be selfish and stupid. As much as I’d like to see more progress in these things, I am glad we have made some progress.

          • MsPythia

            Me too. 🙂

          • Shohanna

Now you know why I have conflicting emotions when it comes to my dad. That’s exactly what he would say. But then he had a daughter who was quite rebellious and he had to accept me. It really puts his beliefs in stark relief and he can’t stand it. He loves me, but he hates me at the same time. The feeling is quite mutual.

          • The_Fixer

Hey, Sho. Yeah, that’s the way it is with families. For the enlightened, it’s a learning experience to be close to people whose opinions you find repugnant. For the unenlightened, you may be able to make a few inroads, but you still live with the frustration of them seeing little of your point-of-view.

          • Shohanna

**nod** It hurts too. It effects every part of your life. He thinks I am a lazy, good for nothing, loafer.

When I am actually disabled!! I have tried to get medical attention about my injuries for a very long time but b/c my “insurance” doesn’t pay like the Elite insurance does, they refuse to “SEE” the issues.

I am DAMNED if I do, and DAMNED if I don’t. I have been in this situation for 12 fucking years. I can’t escape. I want to so fucking bad.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            *hugs the sho*

What we need to do is find you a nice sugar daddy. 😛

          • Shohanna

Oh god, that would just make it worse. My parents would guilt trip me the entire time. No. I rather win the lottery! lol

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Can does that too.

          • Shohanna

Can? I don’t understand? Oh I would give them some money, I always pay my debts and I owe them so much I have no reason to hate them. BAH I can’t win.

          • The_Fixer

I have a friend who suffered a major breakdown some years back. She’s doing well right now, her medications keep her in check. However, it’s still touch-and-go for a few aspects of her life. Her parents think she is just being lazy and that she should just get a job. She can’t – she does a little bit of work-from-home stuff, but nothing that can sustain her by itself. She’s on SSI.

Her parents were there for the breakdown. They see the SSI checks come every month. They know she has to take meds to remain stable. They know that she has to fight SAD with a light box in the winter.

WTF? How can anyone have that much knowledge of a situation and refuse to recognize it? It just boggles the mind.

          • Shohanna

Reminds me of my parents. They were fucking there when I FELL!! My Mom helped me to the fucking hospital. They watched as they said I was “FINE” and I spent 9 fucking months in bed and couldn’t take myself to the bathroom. My husband carried me up a flight of stairs, as many times as I needed a day to go to the bathroom! It pisses me off so bad. They took care of my kids while I was stuck in bed.

They did NOT fight for me. They did NOTHING to tell the doctors I couldn’t fucking walk!! They let me lay there day after day in so much pain I screamed half the time. It pisses me off so bad just thinking about it. I want to HURT someone over it. They HATE me. Yet everyday they say “I love you”. I want to slap her silly! Some way to show you love someone, let them fucking suffer in pain in your basement for 9 fucking months. THANKS MOM. /sarcasm.

          • Shohanna

Sorry, the incident really gets me angry.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            you needs this.

          • Shohanna

That’s a beautiful picture. Ty Spiffy.

Federal Government Turns A Blind Eye To Terrible Conditions In Private Prisons

The Office of the Inspector General for the Justice Department uncovered systemic mismanagement at private prisons, which fueled inmate suffering. However, the office also found the suffering would not have
been so severe if government officials had engaged in proper oversight.

    https://shadowproof.com/2016/08/16/federal-government-turns-blind-eye-terrible-conditions-private-prisons/

    • Well, of course they do! (They profit from those conditions)

      • 17

        Out of sight-out of mind.

  • MsPythia

Yes, it is strange that no one ever talks about this…

    • The media doesn’t really need to ask, they were there, mostly, when it was earned, they just didn’t pass that info on…

    • dayanmao

With a net worth of $200 million – that we know of.

      • MsPythia

Right. Who knows what they’ve got stashed away in the Caymans, and/or Swiss Bank Accounts.

      • Shohanna

Yeah we have yet to see those Panama Papers. Pretty sure they will be included in there somewhere.

Here’s How Much Michael Phelps Might Have to Pay the IRS for Winning Olympic Medals

“You didn’t win that” might as well be the U.S. government’s official congratulatory platitude to American Olympians who succeed in Rio this summer.

This year, the IRS will impose a nearly 40% “victory” tax on athletes who take home gold, silver, and bronze medals for the United States.

    http://theantimedia.org/michael-phelps-tax-olympic-medals/

    • The_Fixer

Jeez, why the hell would anybody even want to compete in the Olympics? It’s gotta be for ego.

      • 17

Especially considering the conditions as they are now.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

IDK probably want to get in commericals and write books/special appearances afterwards at this point. 40% wtf.

    • I’ve got no problem with this: These people aren’t amateurs, participating in a profit-free event, they are professional, pay-for-play athletes and should pay taxes like any other professional athletes.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

40%?! But corporations can pay zero. Sheesh.

  • MsPythia

This is really scary. Any of you who have little ones or grandkids should be aware of this.
    http://www.lovethispic.com/blog/10025/toddler-turns-blue–amp%3B-throws-up-blood%2C-dies-for-one-scary-reason

    • Nancy

      oh how awful!
thanks for that…the poor little sweetie.

    • Shohanna

Oh that’s so horrid. I kept my girls in gates, (twins) b/c I KNEW I could not watch them 24/7, I could not chase after them, and twins frequently went in two directions. So I decided to control their environment. I couldn’t baby proof enough, so the 8′ gates worked for me. I had 2, and together they had 16′ of area to play in, where they couldn’t reach things that would kill them.

Their toys were gone over with a fine tooth comb to make sure nothing could be “swallowed” or ripped off. They stayed in those gates until I could teach them that the house was my house and they had to follow rules, etc etc. Which was about 4 yrs old or so.

Then we learned “pockets”. I couldn’t push 2 carts, and I couldn’t chase them in the grocery store either. Nor could I stand them bugging the fuck out of me if they wanted something. So there were 3 rules they had to learn before they could go to the store with me. (Which they REALLY wanted to do.) They placed their hands in my back pockets and they did not leave my side. Nor did they ask for something that wasn’t on the list. They got 1 item each, and that was it. IF it wasn’t on the list, it didn’t get bought or asked for!

They learned that pretty quick, the first time was a disaster but I told them I would take them home the first time they broke the rules and I did. When I took them the next time, they were on their best behavior. I NEVER expected them to behave for hours and hours at a time. Just the time I needed them to be behaved and they did great! So I didn’t have the “WHAAAA” and running off at the mall, grocery’s or things like that.

      • Nancy

awe, what a whole bunch of work that would be to have two at a time. sounds like you had some very creative solutions and smart ideas! good on you Sho!

        • Shohanna

Thanks! My girls are so behaved, I think I did more then I intended. They are both “followers” not leaders. :/ But I am not sure how I could have done it differently and get Leaders without the gates. The gates saved their lives.. LOL

          • Nancy

that is the whole point-we want our kids alive and the leaders will be who they are regardless of what we do or didn’t do. I like well behaved children-they are loved and appreciated by others and that does great things for their self esteem. I also know the importance of being rebellious and fully encouraged that in my daughter.

          • Shohanna

I am trying to do that as well, but she has severe anxiety and depression. I keep thinking it was something I did. I am not sure though, I have read a lot of studies that said it’s because of the strife in the USA right now and had nothing to do with how I raised them. But I am not sure, I have this inkling that I made them fear the world with the gates but it could be my own anxiety saying that.

          • Nancy

we sure love to blame ourselves for all of their troubles! I do that as well. how old are they?
as you know-there is a huge incidence of anxiety and depression in North America…it’s an epidemic and I think it’s very much relating to the mess we are in. why would anyone feel safe and secure?

          • Shohanna

The twins are now 22, and will be 23 in Sept. I keep thinking I can help them. But, um, they don’t want my help now. I still am suffering from empty nest syndrome. LOL

          • Nancy

my daughter just turned 22…it’s a tough one to let go of after we have had such input into their lives!
I still have mine living with me-it’s lovely but we did have to figure out how to be room mates rather than mother/daughter.

          • Shohanna

OMG They were living with me a for awhile after they turned adults. I had no problem with the transition of them turning 18. I made new rules (you know b/c my house.) and they were surprised that boys were now allowed etc etc. I had to be introduced to them and I would go quietly and run back ground checks. LOL (No I didn’t tell them unless it was bad.) I had Birth Control in the house since they were 14ish..

Because I didn’t want to be a grandma too soon! O.O I had rules for when they could come in the house and wake me up. That wasn’t happening! I didn’t have many rules, just cleanup after yourselves, have a job etc.

Then they met the “loves” of their lives, moved out, got married and I got left alone. It happened like with in 6 months of each other. I wasn’t expecting it. LOL It’s been about 2 yrs now and I am starting to enjoy the quiet. Well, until my grandbaby was born a year ago. LOL

      • MsPythia

That’s awesome – you sound like a great mom! You really have to watch those little ones like a hawk with toys! This story is scary because there are so many toys now that use those tiny batteries!

        • Shohanna

I know!! My granddaughter already has 7 toys that has those batteries and I check those battery doors before I even give it to her. (making sure the screws are tight on them).

          • MsPythia

They really need to redesign them so that they’re encased in something bigger so they can’t be so easily swallowed!

          • Shohanna

I agree, they need to redesign them.

      • Edwin

My Mom did it this way and my brother and I were never a problem

        http://www.gunaxin.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/hannibal-lecter.jpg

        • Shohanna

ROFLMAO! There were times when they were growing up that I wish I could have done that.. /nod Especially when they were fighting like repukes and dems. OMFG. hahaha

          • Edwin

We hounded her for stuff like Lucky Charms, as I recall. :~>

          • Shohanna

I had a list that was on the fridge and if they wanted a “treat” they had to tell me before we went to the store. I would write it down and double check it before we left. I would warn them that that was their treat and they had a chance to change it up until I pulled in to the parking lot.

I got a lot of lucky charms, Tricks, candied cereal basically. B/c I bought raisin bran, corn flakes, oatmeal and healthy cereals. But there were times where there really was candy, or a toy. etc.

It really made my grocery shopping so much easier. Mother’s would stare at my kids and wonder what I did to them to make them behave. They even asked me, and I would look at them and say Discipline is not unheard of or extinct.

At lot of people really do NOT understand what discipline is, they think it’s spanking, or beating someone. Pshaw, not a chance. It’s being consistent with the rules and not making up new ones because you didn’t think ahead.

          • Edwin

My Mom always had a list too. Did you write “tt” on yours?

          • Shohanna

            No, I don’t believe I did… What’s tt?

          • Edwin

            Funny you should ask. :~>

My Mom wrote tt for toilet tissue. It was kind of a code in case anyone in the store saw her list. She didn’t want them to know she buys and uses toilet paper.

          • Shohanna

hahahah That’s classic. I write it out. Tissue Paper. It’s even worse, I get it in bulk at Sam’s Warehouse. It’s like 18.00 for 24 rolls. You can’t beat it. It will last me for 3 to 4 months. 😀

  • Nancy

this is well know to many of us-I have found this to be a very simple explanation of what is going on with the government and these corporations.
    https://youtu.be/IVzXdZRVbII

    • Too simple, honestly, so simple it distorts reality and prevents corrective action. It’s why I hate this kind of thing, because it re-enforces the right-wing idea that government is some self-existing self-aware entity and not a collection of individuals, manipulating the levers of a grand machine. Just as it portrays corporations as some great beasts, with their own consciousness and motivations independent of the people who own them.,.

This conceptual worldview serves only the people implementing and profiting from the fraud, and makes it near-impossible to stop them ,because they’ve got us tilting at windmills.

Our enemies are people people who have captured our government for the rich people they use it to serve. Corporations are merely the tools of these rich people, not individuals, with their own motivations, just as government is merely a series of mechanisms and not some independent creature with fixed motivations and behaviors.

      • Nancy

Mitt: corporations are people too, my friend.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

The overlap should be bigger. Morning Nancy.

      • Nancy

        morning Lily!

KFC Is Now Licensed To Sell Marijuana in Canada

      http://worldtruth.tv/kfc-is-now-licensed-to-sell-marijuana-in-canada/

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        >:) See, see, i told you guys about KFC! It is awesomes. I hope they stopped using palm oil though ;/

      • Nancy

hahahaha…give you cancer when you eat their food and then heal you from it.
coming and going-KFC has you covered.

no, I wasn’t aware of this.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

Meh. Spiffy has come to the conclusion that anything she does is likely to raise her cause of cancer. There are so many chemicals swimming in our blood now. Even polar bears, who have never been to modern civilization has them. IF I’m probably going to get it anyway, I’m going to enjoy some good chicken. Hmpf.

          • Nancy

I see your point-I am just not a fan of their food. I have found better chicken without so many chemicals and will reduce my risks as much as I can!
enjoy-I already have cancer so I see it now from a much different POV!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 Nancy has beaten her cancer into submission though, just like the Hillarybots?

          • Nancy

            no, just managed through medication.
            always there..just .like the Hillbots.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            🙁 awe.

            *hugs the nancyness.*

          • Nancy

could be a lot worse-I am very fortunate.
            hugs you back!!!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3

          • MsPythia

I’m glad you have decent healthcare to manage it, Nancy. We’re not so lucky here.

          • Nancy

so true-my daily oral chemo is paid for by the provincial medicare plan. all and any cancer treatments, medications and appointments are covered as well as surgeries etc….

          • MsPythia

Awesome. AND now you can score legal weed at KFC! Again, so damn cool! 😀

          • Nancy

            lol…right!!!
I should really consider trying that-I see my oncologist in a couple of months-I am going to ask her for a script.

          • MsPythia

There are people that swear that it improves their symptoms a lot, and others who claim it turned their whole situation around (although I think those are the people who use the oil).

          • Nancy

I have zero side effects from the chemo but I can imagine that it could have a cumulative effect given the years of taking it. might be time to look at other options.

          • MsPythia

It’s nice that it’s legal so it can be treated like the medicine it is there. In this country, people have to move to the states where it’s legal if they want to use it to treat various conditions. I have a friend with a son who has an undiagnosed chronic condition (they’ve run all kinds of tests and can’t figure out what he’s got) who has only been helped by using marijuana oil. For years they lived in fear because it’s illegal, but now that he’s college aged, he moved to Colorado where he can go to school, and use the only drug that makes him feel well.

          • Shohanna

Gives you purrs and hugs. I am glad you are still with us, kicking and screaming!

          • Nancy

            you are a love-thanks. I am very fortunate…very.

          • cathyx

I’m really sorry you have to go through this Nancy.

          • Nancy

thanks, it’s so much better than so many other people I know Cathy. I am very lucky to have what I do and tolerate the treatment so well.

          • Shohanna

Yeah, no side effects from chemo, that’s awesome Nancy. I am sorry you have to go through this. I am here for ya.

          • Nancy

it’s been 8 years now…I actually forget I even have it until I go to the Dr.
            thanks.

          • Edwin

            I didn’t know. Glad you seem to have it under control. {{{hugs}}}

I eat their chicken once in a while (only the chicken.) Last time was about 4 +/- years ago so it’s not really a habit.

          • Nancy

Like I said-I often forget until I have to go for my check ups!
            thanks Edwin!

          • MsPythia

It’s nice that they decided it would be good to sell something healthy for a change. 😉

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Yes and they should legalize it here to. I’m going to need it if Hillary or Trump get in. They could file it under their chartiable giving.

          • Shohanna

HAHA Classic! I dunno if I am still allergic to IT or to the drugs that may have been laced on what I had. I dunno if I want to find out either.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 Was the classic addressed to me or Ms?

          • Shohanna

            You for the comment! 😀

            This one:

Meh. Spiffy has come to the conclusion that anything she does is likely to raise her cause of cancer. There are so many chemicals swimming in our blood now. I’m just saying if they gave out some free marijuana, it would be wonderful for their public image in certain segments of society.

        • MsPythia

You Canadians are so damn cool.

          • Nancy

too bad we still have KFC though…that’s not at all cool!
they are just in it for the money-had they actually given a shit about health, they’d clean up the crap they serve to people!

          • MsPythia

            Truth.

  • SmotPoker

You know how many damns are in America? No? You’re in good company as the US Government has no idea either. We’re well, and truly fucked as far as infrastructure is concerned. When it fails, it’s going to be a massive failure that will cost thousands of lives. The government will trot out experts to state that this was unpredictable which is a fucking lie.

Oh, P.S. Unka Wilbur, I posted a new article today from my archives. Hope you enjoy it.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      Good afternoon smotty 🙂

      • SmotPoker

        Back at you Spiffy.

Good morning Smot and Spiffy! 😀

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          Morning ^^

          • Shohanna

            Ah, it’s Spiffy Morning!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 ah sho 🙂 good to sees you.

          • Shohanna

Good to see you as well, how are you doing this dreary rainy morning?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Meh haven’t quite shaken off the allergies. Still absorbing the death of the kitty. Annoyed at the home improvement project. Feeling a little disheartened about the job search, can’t do a couple things that aren’t pressing that I wanna get out of the way, cause I don’t wanna be on the phone only to have them start drilling and sawing things again.

          • MsPythia

            <3

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 yeah.. just needed to vent a bit there. don't mind the spiffy 🙂

          • MsPythia

            We love the Spiffy.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Awe the spiffy loves you too.

          • Shohanna

Love the Spiffy!! I shared with you in venting. Feel better now. /nod

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            That’s good 🙂

          • Shohanna

GAH we have mirrors!! Are you sure you aren’t me?! O.O I want to clean my garage, and I can’t stand the heat to do it right now. I want to get the carpets cleaned and stained so they don’t show I use to have kids.(Can’t afford it) and I haven’t found a job that I can do with my disability, so it’s dragging me down. AND I spent most of yesterday ON the PHONE, dealing with some major crap that hit the fan. I have more phone calls and some bitching to do at my daughters for not doing their obligatory registering their cars in their perspective states!! O.O

AND I am still suffering from the stupid, goddamned, motherfucking leak in the garage that is 3 fucking yrs old and it hasn’t rained LONG ENOUGH since last year to find the damned thing so they can’t fix it YET. ***BITCH MOAN**

Then there is the house cleaning from the “party” that I still have to clean up. /sigh I can’t win for losing.

I know exactly how you feel right now. haha

          • SpiffyTheValiant

lol well your case seems a little more severe than mine.

          • 17

            Ya think?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lol

          • Shohanna

Not really, I tend to exaggerate some. But it has been 3 yrs since I found the damned leak in the garage and 1 since it’s rained enough to see it. I am not exaggerating that. My dad wants me to get a job, but like that’s happening. There is no way someone is going to hire me b/c I have been injured for 10+ yrs and I am a liability. That is not happening.

The rest is just me wanting my house neat and clean and I can’t be arsed b/c of my injuries. LOL

Morning Sho, and thanks for reading, and supporting my nonsense.

*hugs* your nonsense is hilarious even with a serious story. I am not sure how you do it. But i love it. 😀

          Can’t sleep?

          • Edwin

Yup. I got up for a middle of the night hose down to rinse off the sticky. I’ll head back to bed and see if I can sleep more.

I was having a weird dream about a girl and me being pursued for arrest and we didn’t do anything. All the sheeple were helping the authorities and sabotaging us. I blame Ricki (and Karoli). :~>

          • Shohanna

**Hugs** I have had dreams like that. I was having one weird ass dream yesterday where I was in Korea!! O.o

Are you haunting my dreams?! Stop that! It’s weird.

          • Edwin

Did you stop in to visit me?

Oddly, most of my dreams still take place in Canada or a generic Canada-like place. I also have lots of travel dreams all the time. Been around the world 20x over in my dreams. (I even have my own sleep-time world map.)

          • Shohanna

OH wow! Me too. I visit all kinds of places, but I rarely remember them. Which is why it was odd that I remember being in Korea in my dream. I was teaching English to ODDLY shaped beings. I couldn’t call them humans.. Nope they were blob shaped and kept changing, so I couldn’t keep their names right and they thought it was funny. It was horrible! O.O

          • Edwin

            ^.^

      • The_Fixer

I like Lady Gaga, I think she’s crazy talented. But do we really need a remake of that? Are there no more original ideas left in Hollywood?

Barack Obama: From Peace Prize to World’s Biggest Arms Dealer in 8 Short Years

It is not an understatement to say Obama’s tears over gun violence are disingenuous considering his administration has enacted a policy of systematically arming the entire world with all manner of warcraft.
According to the Department of Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), during his first six years in office, the Obama administration entered into agreements to sell more than $190 billion USD in weaponry worldwide. As the director of the Arms and Security Project at the Center for International Policy, William D. Hartung, states, this figure is higher than any U.S. administration since World War II. Perhaps that is why the Nobel secretary has voiced serious regrets about awarding the Peace Prize to the president.

Jill Stein Calls for Investigation of Hillary Clinton…but what about Israel?

“I think there should have been a full investigation. I think the American people are owed an explanation for what happened and why top secret information was put at risk.”

All of that is very nice, but calling for an investigation of Clinton is an eminently safe position to take, and you will notice that in neither video does Stein address the issue of Israel or the power of its lobby in America.

    http://www.veteranstoday.com/2016/08/16/jill-stein-calls-for-investigation-of-hillary-clinton-but-what-about-israel/

    • MsPythia

She does talk about that though, even if it wasn’t in these videos.

How ‘Think Tanks’ Generate Endless War

U.S. “think tanks” rile up the American public against an ever-shifting roster of foreign “enemies” to justify wars which line the pockets of military contractors who kick back some profits to the “think tanks,” explains retired JAG Major Todd E. Pierce.

    America’s Journalistic Hypocrites

The U.S. news media flip-flops on whether international law is inviolate or can be brushed aside at America’s whim – and similarly whether killing civilians is justified or not depending on who’s doing the killing, says Robert Parry.

SEC and Wall Street Stock Frauds: Can This Dog Hunt?

A dubious search engine company trading over-the-counter on Wall Street, with a felon as a “General Design and Marketing Strategist” who was banned from the industry for previous stock frauds, and with the
craziest SEC filings and disclosure documents you’ll ever read in your lifetime, was finally halted from trading yesterday by the SEC – but only after reaching a market value of $35 billion.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/sec-and-wall-street-stock-frauds-can-this-dog-hunt/5541407

    • dayanmao

LOL! Why can’t I be smart enough to pull that kind of stunt?

      • RTIII

        …You lack criminal intent! 😉

      • 17

You don’t know the right insiders?

      • The_Fixer

Morals? You have them, and they don’t?

        • Shohanna

That’s why I am so low on the pole too. I have morals and I have quit two jobs because of them too.

          • The_Fixer

Yup. I could be a whole lot better off if I brought the same principles to my work that politicians bring to theirs.

          • Edwin

I’d rather be low on the pole than play the game. I don’t need much money. I don’t want anything; a roof and 4 walls and a bit of decent grub. I don’t buy any junk. Not a consumer. Don’t buy stuff like Starbucks, fast food, etc.

          • Shohanna

Right?! I love cooking! /nod I like playing my video games, I do have to have a computer. But I don’t need a lot. Just enough to play the game. I love my kitties and my kids. I am quite happy with bare min.

          • Edwin

Me too. Live in a shoebox, have computer. We don’t really even have furniture, live mostly on the floor Korean style (eating ,sleeping.) I have a computer desk. Don’t need or want any junk.

      • MsPythia

        Because you’re a good dayanmao.

        • dayanmao

          Aw, thanks.

      • smkngman3

Not much difference between this and the Clinton Foundation.

    • smkngman3

      Read about this on monday.

“A $35 Billion Stock, an SEC Halt and Suspicions of Manipulation”
“Before its suspension, the market cap of Neuromama, which was based in
southwest Siberia before moving to a beach community near Tijuana,
      Mexico,”
      http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-08-15/a-35-billion-stock-was-just-halted-on-manipulation-concerns

    • Shohanna

Classic, they can’t search their own downfall. HAHA They always give themselves away. Now why did the SEC not close it before the 35 million? OH that’s because that was bribe money! Who says we have laws here? Someone needs to point this out. WE Have no laws for the rich and elites.

Pro-fracking insider appointed by Clinton to head presidential transition team

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is no longer worried about appealing to progressive Bernie Sanders supporters, if her transition team selection is anything to go by.

Even though she hasn’t won the election yet, the former secretary of state chose her old cabinet colleague, Ken Salazar, a big supporter of fracking who served as President Barack Obama’s interior secretary.

    https://www.rt.com/usa/356278-clinton-transition-team-fracking-tpp/

    • SpiffyTheValiant

I resent that he is named Salazar and the Slytherin House wants to sue for slander.

    • Shohanna

Yeah I should have linked that, I read that earlier and I am like.. SEE?! Fucking turn coat, she is no more progressive then Kissinger. Fucking liars. And crooks to go with it. Too bad we don’t have a blog that points those things out..

      Oh, wait….

    • MsPythia

      I HATE Hillary.

      • :^) Yeah. I’m not a big fan of the word hate, but I definitely see her as somebody that needs to be fought tooth-and-nail.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

Hate is too mild of a word for spiffy.

        • MsPythia

I hate liars and corrupt frauds – and that’s what she is.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I loathe and despise her with the passion of ten thousand burning white hot suns. My hatred for her is likely to produce a black hole and purify the universe by sucking her and Trump into it. Then Jill will be our next president.

After which, of course this will become a movie and I will get the rights to it. Thus I will end up richer than Bill Gates and will buy a better Congress for us. This will of course eventually save the planet from Climate Change and we will invest in education and things like space exploration, where finally the aliens will think that we have grown up enough with, that we may join in their reindeer games. And everyone lived happily ever afters.

          • Left of Eden

Wow, that sounds great! Go for it!!!

            ROFLMAO!! I love you Spiffy!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 I love you too. (Trust me, I can hate her enough for both of us.)

          • Shohanna

            That works! Ty 😀

          • SpiffyTheValiant

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Okay.

            ^$#%#@$#@ her.

          • Yes she is, and those aspects of human nature should be despised, belittled, demeaned and minimized in the public sphere as much as possible. Don’t let my discomfort with certain words, led you to believe that I don’t stand with you…. I do. ♡

          • MsPythia

I know you do. I’m angry because she rigged the primary, and because her fans rejected a progressive who would end fracking, and reject TPP and the Keystone pipeline.

          • I could not agree with that statement more, for I feel it as well. In Spades as a matter of fact:^)

(((HUGS))) I am very appreciative of the people on this forum.

          • Shohanna

Ditto!! I dislike her as well. I don’t want her to be president, she is a damn thief and should be publicly shamed.

          • Shohanna

Very much so, and I will speak truth to her if I had a fucking chance to do so!

        • 17

Hillary Clinton is one of those kinds of people who coudn’t give a damn whether you and your family live or die. You have every right to hate her.

        • dayanmao

I’m not either, but it fits. How can anyone Not hate a war criminal responsible for untold thousands of deaths.

          • MsPythia

And her choice of Salazar shows all of us that the “progressive” rhetoric she used during the primary was bullshit. She’s a Republican. And her defenders are all brain dead idiots.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

He needs to change his last name. The House of Slytherin will not stand for this insult.

          • Without getting too philosophical for it would demand a book.

I have a personal, loose general rule, where I condemn Behavior not so much people.

          • dayanmao

That would be interesting. I see people who are hungry and steal food as fulfilling a necessity. I see homeless people as those who were destroyed by our government and it’s policies.

I see people like Hillary, who’ve had all the advantages life could offer, turn into the gleeful destroyer of worlds, when she Could have Chosen a different

path as being something all together different.

          • MsPythia

            Exactly. Well said.

          • Shohanna

Well, my reaction could also be because I had some Tylonal yesterday and I am just not into emotions atm. LOL They said it does effect your emotions. I can’t stand her either. I just learned that to hate someone you had to of loved them first. I never did with Hillary.

          • kreskin

There is irrational hate and then there is justifiable rational hate .

      • SpiffyTheValiant
      • Left of Eden

Hillbots rushing to her defense and labeling us as sore losers in 3,2,1……

        • MsPythia

Exactly. Fucking idiots that defend shit they formerly RAILED on about for years!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Also remember Hillbots hate old white straight males.

So who did Hillary pick for her VP? An old straight white male :))

          • Left of Eden

That’s what gets me. She’s not doing this in a vacuum. Without millions of idiots supporting her, Hillary would be in no position to cause the incalculable damage I’m sure she will.

          • kreskin

They were phonies , compete frauds . No integrity , no principles … and no brains .

        • dayanmao

My response to this yesterday was,

In order to be a sore loser you have to have lost something, what do you call a victim of theft?

          • The_Fixer

            Too damn trusting.

      • smkngman3

Add DESPISE and I’m with you.

      • Shohanna

I wish I could agree. I can’t hate anyone anymore. It’s just not in me. I been down that road before. I had to love them first to hate them last. I did that too.

I have serious apathy for Clinton. She just does not matter to me at all. She could fall off the face of the earth, I would cheer for it.

But hate? No, I never loved her or cared for her to have that strong of feeling for her. But her policies? Oh yeah, we can go shove those policies in her ass for all I care. I will fight against it as long as she is trying to push them on all of us.

Hell I can’t even hate Drumpf either. He is just an idiot with a loud mouth.

        • But her policies? Oh yeah, we can go shove those policies in her ass for all I care. I will fight against it as long as she is trying to push them on all of us.

You and I are of like Minds on this… Sho♡

          • MsPythia

She’s a powerful figure whose actions will hurt people, and the planet, and create war. I hate her. I hate anyone like her.

          • And I love (not an overstatement here) your honesty and passion. I always have.

          • MsPythia

            😀 Maybe it’s a Scottish thing.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            I picture Ms as a red head…

          • I had her in my mind’s eye, with dark black hair. Now you on the other hand I suspect of red hair:^)

          • MsPythia

            I am dark brunette.

          • ;^) love it when I guess right.

          • dayanmao
          • MsPythia

            😀

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lol also a brunette.

          • Hate its…when I am wrong.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

my sister is a red head though.

          • MsPythia

We’ve got some redheads in my extended family – more auburn though.

          • That must have been what confused me:P

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Her name is also Stephanie too.

          • What a coincidence, I would have loved to have a sister like you.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 Awe thanks. We aren't really close though. I mean we never had a big falling out or anything like that. We are just completely different people and sometimes I think species.

          • Never had any sisters or brothers, however I have two step brothers and one step sister.

Love them all, but we all live in different states. So we only get together every once in a great while it’s easy to maintain relationships when there hardly is any 🙂

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Lol indeed.

Example of why we are different species.

Sister has her birthday party, invites her current boyfriend AND her ex boyfriend. To be there at the same time.

          • Yeah, that’s different to be sure.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • MsPythia

Nope – just the temperament when it comes those in power! 😉

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3

          • Father’s side is Scott and Irish, mother’s side German and Dutch.

Typical American here Heinz 57 ;^)

          • MsPythia

Highland Scottish on my dad’s side, Italian/French on mom’s.

          • Annaleigh

Let’s see, father’s side is Scottish, Irish, English, Welsh, French, German, Dutch, Cherokee, and Shawnee, mother’s side is Mexican, Irish, Scottish, English, Welsh, French. My AncestryDNA map is even more wild than that, lol.

          • Well we do know one thing it “all” made one great person:^)

I’m sure if I looked harder in my ancestry I would find more as well. What I listed is what I know for a certainty.

My mother has thought about having her DNA taken I’ve thought about it myself as well.

          • MsPythia

Yeah – I’ve been thinking about doing that too. Whatever we think we are that seems to be only a small part of our DNA.

          • Annaleigh

            Aww, thanks Stephanie! <3

          • cathyx

Wow, i’ve only got 2 ethnicities in me. Sheesh.

          • 17

I think Irish is one of them. I’d guess German as the other. 😉

          • cathyx

            No, half italian, half german.

          • smkngman3

Swap Swiss for French and Mexican for Polish and tha’s pretty close to me.
My grandmother was 1/4 Indian but I don’t know what tribe Her family last name was Clearwater.

          • Shohanna

Holy cow are you a cousin?! Exactly the same, Scott and Irish on my Mom’s side, and Straight up German on my Dad’s side. (he is first generation born here from his parents.)

          • I don’t know could be:^)

          • Shohanna

            Yep, we are Steph, <3

          • Sho. <3

        • Edwin

I don’t really hate anyone either (not even Karoli, I just think she’s a douchebag.) *bush and blair might be an exception because they are such rotten fuckers.

I thoroughly dislike Clinton. I think she is untrustworthy and disingenuous. I think she’s a terrible choice for president, but I don’t hate her.

          • Shohanna

See? That’s how I feel too. there are people whom I have very strong feelings for, but it’s based on that love thing. My parents being part of it. I want to separate myself from those strong, detrimental feelings. They aren’t good for you. But I can’t, not yet. I am still in the situation and can’t separate myself from it to release the anger I have.

Clinton does not even register on my radar for that kind of pain. So I can’t even compare. I can just say that I do NOT like her at all. I wouldn’t piss on her if she was on fire, b/c I don’t care.

            Does that make sense?

          • Edwin

Yup. I said I didn’t hate her a hundred times as the Hillbots, and staff (yes, you Karoli), at C&L told me, “It’s because you hate her.”

      • kreskin

  • Just FYI for everyone: We’ll have a new open thread this afternoon, for the Stein/Baracka Town Hall. I’ll try to find a free stream, but likely you’ll have to have CNNGo, or some such.

    • Thank you, Unka

    • RTIII

      Thanks for the reminder!

    • MsPythia

Thanks Unka – you rock! <3

      • RTIII

I can’t watch it unless we find a livestream: No cable of any kind. 🙁

        You?

        I was considering finding a watch party…

        • MsPythia

No cable here either. I’m sure we can find a livestream.

          • I don’t have cable but I do have Roku.

          • MsPythia

            Does Roku have CNN?

          • I literally just snorted:^) I’ve never looked for it, I’ll see if it’s on there.

          • cathyx

It doesn’t look like it. but it has cbs, nbc, and abc.

        • I’m hoping we can find a livestream, but if not, for me, Cox (who I only get Internet from) will accept my mom’s login (she gets cable) for such services, from my install. Weird, but useful. LOL.

    https://theconversation.com/at-the-core-of-hillary-clintons-image-problem-is-the-familys-foundation-62737
Now that Hillary has stolen the nomination, the article links to a WP article I must have posted at least a dozen times.
    “2 Clintons. 41 Years. 3 Billion.

    • Shohanna

Damn, I read that earlier too! Are you following me? /jk

      • smkngman3

I noticed in the comments that no one bothered to read the linked articles!

“Gee whiz! It is a CHARITABLE foundation, is it not? Is it tax-exempt? If
so, it has been vetted by the IRS for any hint of fraudulence or
        misdeeds.”

        • Shohanna

Right? You would think that would be their first inclination. It makes me so sick that people can get away with this shit, yet I can’t get away with a damned speeding ticket. Fuckers.

While filling waiting time between appointments on Monday, I visited a couple of sites I hadn’t been to in a while (I posted these a long time ago on hacks).

    https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9c/Spadena_Witch_House.jpg/240px-Spadena_Witch_House.jpg
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spadena_House

To give you an idea of the area, it’s Beverly Hills, basically across the street from Rodeo Drive. Across from this home is a single story, surrounded by a wrought iron fence, each length (8′) topped with a Roman bust. Hideous and typical.

A few blocks away is the O’Neill house, stunning for an entirely different reason.

    https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=OIP.M2a811409d09ffad52d11560b9f1835feo0&w=300&h=197&c=0&pid=1.9&rs=0&p=0&r=0

    http://www.iamnotastalker.com/2013/03/27/the-oneill-house-from-beverly-hills-90210/

Then I went and saw another thing or two, but these were the highlights.

    • MsPythia

      O’Neill house is beautiful!

      • dayanmao

It blows me away. I’ve got a background in building and design (the actual work) and the craftsmanship is incredible. There literally can’t be a dozen people in the entire U.S. that know how to do that.

It’s also stunning that in the cultural wasteland that is Beverly Hills, something so beautiful and unusual can exist.

        • MsPythia

          Can you tour the house?

          • dayanmao

Sorry about that, I had to suddenly run out for a while. I think one of the links said there were tours, but it might just be for industry people.

  • smkngman3

As i’ve said before, if you’re rich or a Corporation, it’s cheaper and easier to buy a politician than to “follow the “law”.

Trump Casinos’ Tax Debt Was $30 Million. Then Christie Took Office.”http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/17/us/politics/trump-chris-christie-casinos.html?_r=0

No wonder Christie is pissed at not being named Trumps VP.

    • Shohanna

Oh wow, that bribe was huge! LOL

      • smkngman3

NJ is so used to corruption that this is hardly unusual.

        • MsPythia

          That is so true.

      • Edwin

I didn’t read the article. A half dozen doughnuts? Tax bill, poof gone.

    • Shohanna

So I got to this part…

“Donald and I, along with Melania and Mary Pat, have been friends for
over a decade,” Mr. Christie said when he endorsed Mr. Trump in
February. “He has been a good and loyal friend.”

And all I could think about was that clip of Christie on stage behind Drumpf as he is being humiliated. Some friend. LOL And if that is who you call friends, you have a serious self confidence issue. /nod

    Worse that her mom?

‘A lot of people left because she was there’: Chelsea Clinton accused of being ‘difficult’ and unpleasant by Clinton Foundation staff -and her entourage is almost as big as her father’s”

Sources also claim that Chelsea is also enjoying all the trappings of a CEO, with a personal staff of five people. Her father, former president Bill Clinton, has just six, said the source.

The organization has now become so bloated that Page Six says some critics believe it should be the subject of a formal investigation.

It’s alleged that her behavior may be a hangover from the time at former employers McKinsey and NBC News – where she was paid $600,000 a year.

So during decades in Congress, Sanders accomplished nothing and now
Hillary needs a sore loser like him to help her find her way. Sanders
can’t get along with people which is the way to get things done.He lied
and misled those Bernie Bros whose heads are now full of mush. He didn’t
have enough decency and leadership ability to keep them from behaving
like wild animals during the convention. Now, he just bought a expensive
new house and still hasn’t released papers on his campaign funds. He
had no time to release his taxes, but time to be looking for a new house
during campaign?? What a devious devious human being. As a loyal Dem, I
don’t want stupid rude people in the party. Bernie hold outs, please go
away. You will never be anything in politics. You are even too dumb to
    vote. You NO POWER.

I’d happily go to Alternet and discuss this with “Barbi”, but well, you know.

      • Edwin

        I don’t have the energy.

      • Are you banned at alternet?

        • 17

Well yes, after the “poison letter” was sent.

          • I went to your site/room, but there was some stuff that I couldn’t download. So am kind of out of the loop on what got sent to whom.

I’m sorry that happened to you:/

          • 17

            Thank you. No worries.

          • 17

Say the word, and I will email anything you want directly.

          • Appreciated, but not necessary I read Plum’s site extensively and I got the gist of what had happened.

In the beginning I thought they had just dealt poorly with Edwin. I thought maybe it could be worked out. I didn’t realize all the other stuff that had happened, with you and apparently quite a few others.

There’s still a part of me that wishes things were handled differently. That we could have confronted Rickiy, and lovingly suggested that she get help. We are progressives if we can’t deal lovingly with difficult or mentally ill people then who the hell can. I took it as a personal failure. But these are the Musings of an overly optimistic mind.

Though know this too. I know wrongs have been committed against you, and I am deeply sorry that you had to experience them, and I’m glad that you are finally experiencing Vindication from what essentially amounts to slander.

Sorry for the long-winded nature of this post and I hope you don’t mind that I shared my feelings and thoughts.

          • 17

People have been trying to “lovingly” steer Ricki in the direction of legitimate help since at least last November, and she’s turned on every one of those people. This could only have gone the way it did. It’s how she wanted it to go.

          • Ultimately I accept that, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

Ask this idiot how much Hillary’s house costs and compare and contrast with Bernie’s.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

The stupid rude thing is hilarious. That’s what has infected the Democratic Party.

      • Edwin

Notice how that kind of talk is OK at AN: not banned.

If you said that about a Hillary supporter, I wonder…

        • So much hypocrisy and double standards when it came to Hillary and Sanders, as well as there supporters.

I don’t know how many of you have hooked up with Brand New Congress.

But this is worthy a Cause. Flipping Congress to Progressive in 2018 will be a veritable Thorn in Hillary Clinton’s side or Trumps for that matter. It will be the only real power we have against her if she becomes President.

I just received an email where they would like people to submit candidates for them to support.

So if you know intelligent articulate progressives in your area submit their names to brand new Congress or if you feel up to the challenge submit your own name:^)

Educational to say the least. Boy do I feel stupid now that I truly understand the difference. I admit to being a gringo that used the terms interchangeably.

One small question though, isn’t Portuguese a derivative of Spanish? I’ve known people from Brazil that could speak with Mexicans, and vice versa, with very little trouble. A few differences here, and there, but it seems like the difference between how a southerner speaks versus how a yankee speaks here in the US.

        This is What. They. Do.

This tactic is just the lowest of the low. I cannot believe that people have the audacity (I would say “unmitigated audacity”, but that phrase is “taken”) to use it on another
fellow human being. Just to take that stance, as preposterous as it is, is totally dissing the other person in the argument. It insults their intelligence, and attacks them personally at the same time. It is the epitome of an insult, and belittles the other participant. It takes a
person with low self esteem to use the tactic, especially when a man takes the initiative to use it on a woman.

        • kreskin

The bootster , that one’s a real piece of work . Facts bounce off his head like a soccer ball , nothing gets through . Gotta be on the Clinton camp’s payroll .

        • Is this the same gaslighting thread that you posted earlier?

          • Edwin

Yup. The morons are having a gay old time in there and Karoli is leading the pack, the dizzy (deleted) effing (deleted)

Why the eff do you even go there ?

Morbid curiosity. I haven’t been going nearly as often and today did not disappoint.

And Research. See what the current spin and lies are. Karoli gets them straight from Brock, unfiltered.

          • kreskin

You’ve given Karoli free living space in your head. Let it go , comrade.

    • smkngman3

I would be surprised if someone doesn’t post a YouTube link later.

      • Yeah I hope there’s a better way to.

    • RTIII

They want to install spyware on your phone. Just say no!

      FUCK no!

      actually!

      • It’s what I thought, I mean I know they have to interact with your device somewhat, but it just seemed incredibly excessive.

        Thanks

    • Edwin

Worth a watch. (A film about clicking “I accept” terms and conditions.)

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HPw_hx7OME

      • Thanks Edwin.

        • Edwin

yw, it’s an eye opener and easy to watch

          • Actually I’m pretty aware about how you lose your right to privacy when you put your information on a third party online site. I should have known better.

I just don’t quite have the ins and outs of what would be an acceptable use or interaction with my device versus an excessive or abusive use of my device. If you get what I mean.

          • Edwin

I know what you’re saying. I don’t have a smartphone. If you’re using one of those they pretty much know every single detail of your life already. I figure they know about 80% of my life from my laptop

          • I do and it’s what I fear.

Good news is there’s really nothing there for anybody to get too excited about.

It might come in handy however when I grab my Pitchfork and join the forthcoming Revolution ;^)

          • Edwin

I’m the same way, but it doesn’t matter. Our “free democracies” were designed to prevent exactly these kinds of intrusions and they are not acceptable.

Corporations make you agree by clicking “I accept”, the government just does it because who is going to make them stop? (This is where your pitchfork comes in.)

          • Agreed, I hope we can ( stop the government from their abusive). At the very least we will give it our all.

I believe things are really bad right now, but I think we can backtrack this, some point in the not-too-distant future. Millennials are breathing new life into the progressive agenda.

          • Edwin

Nothing will be backtracked without a rev0luti0n. That’s how Empires work.

If they come for you they have enough to paint your picture as guilty. Same for all of us.

“NPR Host Demands That Assange Do Something Its Own Reporters Are Told Never to Do”

In a ten-minute interview aired Wednesday morning, NPR’s David Greene asked Wikileaks founder Julian Assange five times to reveal the sources of the leaked information he has published on the internet.

A major tenet of American journalism is that reporters protect their sources. Wikileaks is certainly not a traditional news organization, but Greene’s persistent attempts to get Assange to violate confidentiality was alarming, especially considering that there has been no challenge to the authenticity of the material in question.

    https://theintercept.com/2016/08/17/npr-cant-accept-assange-protect-sources/

    • Edwin

They want to nail him to a post and leave his body to rot as a warning to others who might dare speak out.

David Greene should get a degree in journalism before shooting off his mouth.

      • smkngman3

        Hacks don’t need degrees!

NPR is useless as a reliable news source.

        • dayanmao

I just ran some errands and had NPR on. I learned two things. Trump hasn’t run a commercial (or national commercial) since the republican convention, and

Hillary is all over Trumps ending the estate tax. I listened to her shrill voice for all of two or three seconds – however long it took her to blast him, because I’m sure she compared it to her donating to her own foundation, having money in several MD tax havens, etc… because avoiding taxes one way is so much worse than the other.

F*ck! I can’t stand her, and anyone stupid enough to vote for her.

          • smkngman3

Hillary uses “trust funds” to escape the inheritance tax.

“Wealthy Clintons Use Trusts to Limit Estate Tax They Back”

To reduce the tax pinch, the Clintons are using financial planning
strategies befitting the top 1 percent of U.S. households in wealth.
These moves, common among multimillionaires, will help shield some of
their estate from the tax that now tops out at 40 percent of assets upon
            death.

“US Soldiers Are Relying on Millions of Dollars in Food Stamps to Survive”

Military service members on active duty spent $24 million in food stamps at military commissary shops from September 2014 to August 2015, and 45 percent of students in schools run by the military are eligible for free or reduced-price meal programs.

Hi Smokey, I was just going to post that, but this goes well with that article.

America Is Exhibiting All of the Signs of a Failing Empire – https://jhaines6a.wordpress.com/2015/10/11/america-is-exhibiting-all-of-the-signs-of-a-failing-empire-washingtons-blog/

The American Empire Is Quickly Declining

Consummate insider Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson – former chief of staff to Colin Powell, and now distinguished adjunct professor of Government and Public Policy at William & Mary – notes that the U.S. is exhibiting all of the signs of a failing empire, including:

Relying on massive military force (and using gigantic complexes to support it) as the be-all and end-all of power, and belittling diplomacy

Maintaining standing armies, instead of disbanding military forces between wars

Using more mercenary forces than citizen troops

Spending disproportionately large amounts of blood and treasure in order to counter threats on the status quo … which simply exacerbates the threat against the empire

      Going ethically and morally bankrupt

Ending up up having bankers and financiers end up running the real power

Suffering great hiccups in finance and trade

The leaders no longer really believe in or follow the ideals of the founders

:)) on MSNBC, Chris Matthews is very seriously discussing Montel Williams (spelling? Some comedian’s) article about how he is going to vote for Clinton. That’s right, this guy wanted to vote for Kaisch. But he’s out. So he can’t. He’d vote for the Libertarians, but the deck is stacked against them. So he’s going to endorse Clinton because she’s the “right choice.” (not his first choice, the right choice.)

Congratulations Chris. You somehow made a COMEDIAN saying that Clinton is his third choice by default sound like it’s some sort of grand revelation and a really impressive “get” for Clinton. I guess you must have been pumping some serious vigara today.

    • smkngman3

      You bother to watch Chris?

I can’t botherr watching Maddow or Hayes.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

If I get bored enough, I turn on MSNBC.

Heard back from one. Didn’t get it. Still waiting to hear back from the other. Don’t expect to get it. But there is a chance, I guess.
