Dancin’ in me Bones

793635-electric-guitar-wallpaperOne of the things I missed most after being hit by the Banhammer of Loving Correction at C & L was the music thread. I went searching the blogs for a replacement, and the closest thing I found was the Open thread at Alan.com, but they told me I couldn’t post too much music there as it slowed their page to a crawl for some technical reason. I found several private, “invitation-only” sites, but well, who the hell wants to invite ME anywhere?

So here’s my attempt to start a dedicated music thread. I’d like to make it “open-ended”, but assume that at some point it’ll need to be cleared and started fresh.

Sometimes the music shared won’t be to your liking, but there’s always that occasional gem that makes you wonder why you hadn’t heard it before. Case in point: I was never a fan of Prince, but upon his death I got turned on to our first entry. “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. I’m a big fan of Rock Ballads, and this tune made me wonder just how much good shit I missed by not paying attention.

So here’s your chance to turn me on to something I’ve never tried. Porn just isn’t enough for me anymore.

    This little dude could shred!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9Y

    • He was really an amazing guitarist. Sadly, his decision to only involve his music in the most limited and restricted way, on the best distribution platform, the Internet, has meant he has pretty much thrown any ongoing fan-base and legacy away.

      • 17

Some expect to live forever, and some of us don’t worry about what happens when we’re gone.

    • Dosido3

IIRC someone asked Eric Clapton how it felt to be the best guitarist in the world and he said I don’t know. Go ask Prince.

      • Shohanna

LOL Yup sounds about right. haha

    • They’re really a remarkable band. Not a big fan, but a good band is a good band, whether or not they “reach” me, personally. I do like some of their members’ side projects, though, specifically “Perfect Circle.”

  • Laurie Anderson: Always ahead of her time (and a participant in the creation of some our best synth technology)…

    https://youtu.be/VaBbHGKLp88

  • Nonmeansno, the trio(and more, sometimes) from Canada has been the acknowledged inspiration for, literally, dozens of incredibly famous rock and punk bands, over the 35+ years they’ve been together. They’ve also produced some of the best and most powerful punk rock. Their live shows are legendary, rarely less than 3 hours of total rocking, and packaged in tours of 100+ appearances in a row, and they are still doing this to this day, well into their 60s. Take that Rolling Stones!!!

Here’s “Rags N Bones” from their 1989 release, “Wrong”

      Hey! That was fun!

    • MsPythia

      Love!

    • (((No_one_you_care_about)))

      0 + 2 = 1 is my personal favorite album of theirs.

  • I just posted this recently, but I really do like the video.

    • Dosido3

Lol. I love when people let their freak flag fly. And gnomes! 😀

      • Indeed. I like the not to subtle hits at how we run our economy:^)

Their expression was more than just to be ostentatious. Though that certainly made it fun and interesting:^)

  • Another late 70s/early 80s experimental band, that most people have never heard of, it’s XEX…

Are you cool? How cool are you? Still not as cool as my man Joe Walsh. Here he is with his group The James Gang with their hit song Walk Away.

A band I loved when I could still hear. I would set up my drums (Pearl Forums) and play along with them all the time.

    Indigenous – Blues This Morning

    • That’s some good, solid “Rocking Blues,” I’ll have to check them out.

    • Chunga

      Indigenous Rocks !!

      • SmotPoker

Yes, yes they do. I’ve dug them since the first time I heard them on the recommendation of an old manager of mine.

        • Chunga

I did lights for them at one of the local theaters I worked at when they first started touring theaters years ago, it was one hell of a show.

  • Shohanna

Most people don’t like my taste in music. Especially my favorite bands. I am going to post a few, see what you guys think.

This one touched me. A lot I been listening to it since.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWcXuu16ttc

I lost the band for a good 8 yrs. I fell in love with the entire album and then some. They put out a few, and they went on tour and I was 20′ from the stage at one point and I had to leave. (Open general standing, about a year after I fell and I could not stand long enough to watch their concert. Even after I paid for the tickets. I didn’t bring my wheelchair, I didn’t think Hard Rock Cafe would dispense with all their chairs and tables. But that’s exactly what they did.)

A few weeks back I found out they continued as another band!! Here is a sample of the new band.

Enjoy the earworm. Holy cow is it stuck in my head!

    • Not to my tastes, but not offensive or bad or anything. 🙂

    • I have very eclectic taste in music, I can go all over the place. Indeed most of us here seem to have that trait.

    • 17

Good stuff, Shohanna. Thank you. Keep ’em coming please.

    • Chunga

Now that’s good stuff right there.

  • Edwin

When there are a lot of videos it does screw up the page. Go beside your name (where your notifications dot is). click the arrow and click hide media.

I had stopped going in the C&L music thread because of that. Then Bede showed me this trick.

    • 17

      Thanks for the tip!

    • Shohanna

I think I hid it. Not sure though.

      • Edwin

If you hide media there is no image, just type.

I miss seeing 17 on the C&L music threads. Maybe I’ll even show up some nights to share a few tunes. 🙂

      Please do, anytime.

  • Chunga

I miss the music threads as well. Thanks for putting this page up 17.

Cymande, a favorite British band of mine from the 70s always sends me down the funk hole.

One of my favorite Jazz guitarist, John Abercrombie, has been putting out music for over 40 years now. Covering different styles as a solo artist, in duets, trios and quartets of many iterations.

More John Abercrombie with the great Jack DeJohnette and Dave Holland.

More Miles covering CSN’s Guinnevere from the Bitches Brew Sessions.

More Frank. I’ve had this song stuck in my head for a couple days. Maybe it’s because I’ve been so busy I haven’t given my kitchen a good scrubbing for a couple weeks.

I can’t recall ever being in Kansas City, especially in A Minor, but I guess FZ has.

Of course I have to throw out some Frank. From the song which I have taken my name.

I didn’t appreciate Queen enough when Freddie was alive. Liked their music but wow, such artistry!

I know The Voice isn’t for everyone, but really. People should check out Jordan Smith. He’s a classic case of why the show exists. Such an amazing talent who needed the show a confidence boost and exposure. Everyone was cheering for him. Here he is covering Find Me Someone to Love. It gives me chills.

Love it. I remember this song! First time seeing the video. I watched the whole thing. I was mesmerized…

  • Dosido3

I only just heard this Green Day song a few weeks ago. The lyrics are rather Angry Teen but I really liked the general vibe. And it’s perfect for what I’m recovering from this week.

What I miss about vinyl is discovering the deep tracks. Often a non hit would become a favorite song. OK I’m a child of the seventies. I loved Elton John’s Grey Seal. What’s your favorite deep track?

    • Oh, man. so many. Probably something on a Floyd disc. Pre-Waters.

    • So, replying to this just get your attention: Please feel free to choose a day of the week for a “Music Club” thread, and post ’em yourself. Just post it after the Open Thread, so it’s top for the day. I’ve moved your account to “Editor” status, so you can now add the “promoted” category to your posts, which causes them to be fgeatured on the front page!

I’m looking for a new theme for the site (or to mod this theme), so we can feature 1 or two posts, while still letting new posts appear below the featured ones!

I fell in love with Joni Mitchell listening to her on my AM radio when I was a kid. I still think she is the greatest female lyricist of all time.
