Thank God It’s Friday is a 1978 American musical comedy film directed by Robert Klane and produced by Motown Productions and Casablanca Filmworks for Columbia Pictures (whose torch-holding mascot, in a specially produced logo, dances to disco music before the opening credits). Produced at the height of the disco craze, the film features The Commodores performing “Too Hot to Trot“, and Donna Summer performing “Last Dance“, which won the Academy Award for Best Song in 1978. The film also features an early performance by Jeff Goldblum and the first major screen appearance by Debra Winger.

Private Military Contractors Fighting US Wars

The US is expanding military operations overseas without actually increasing the number of regular troops deployed there. The military spends great sums to hire private intelligence contractors to do the fighting.

Sorry my chosen photo didn’t appear on my post.

        • You know even after spending years following these kinds of issues, sometimes it can just leave me gobsmacked, what a clusterfuck the US has become.

          • 17

I meant the photo for “Dancin’ in me Bones”.

          • Just saw it. Hadn’t looked posts yet, this morning (and just did an “Add New” on this one last night.)

The “Featured Image” is there, it will only show up though, once I’ve promoted it to the front page. If you want an image in the post itself, you need to use the “Add Media” button above the post-editor area. That will add an image at the current cursor location.

Just a request: Always set at least one category from the list on the right hand, or add a new one, if none are appropriate.

          • 17

Actually, I accidentally posted the whole damned thing before I was ready to.

          • You can always “unpublish” it by changing the “status” just above the “publish” button!

          • BTW: I just added the featued image for the thread into the thread text, so you can see how that’s done. If you hover over the image, you’ll see the “wrap text around the right of the image”icon is selected. You can also select that option under “additional media settings” when selecting the image/media to insert, as well as selecting what size you want the image to appear at, in the text!

          • 17

            Thank you, good sir.

    A Terrorist Endorses Hillary Clinton

The FBI defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.”

Is a person who calls for acts of terrorism, but doesn’t personally carry out such acts, a terrorist? A report by
Human Rights Watch details dozens of cases in which Muslim-Americans have been convicted of terrorism-related charges without carrying out an actual act of terrorism.

    • cathyx

Are they going to unban us all so we can comment?

      • Nancy

        lol…I am still unbanned.
what a mess. just thought we should all know the latest slams and slurs that are being hurled against people.

        • cathyx

Yeah, thanks for this Nancy. Neb sure does love to continue the fight and air their dirty laundry. And to quote Ricki, smdh.

        • The_Fixer

I am now taking the tact of ignoring them. I know what I have seen, I know what they have done, and don’t need to deal with such stupid shit. He cat rebut all he wants; I won’t be there to read any more of it.

          And good morning, everyone.

          • Nancy

morning! I tend to agree with you…when it involves friends I think they should be in the loop. I can’t imagine what this must feel like to be names and slandered…wow!
            plans for the weekend?

          • The_Fixer

Hey, Nancy. Yeah, my beef with them involves how they treated other people. I have made it known how I feel here and I am certain that it has been read by the Banners-in-Chiefs. There is no need to rebut anything to me, and in fact, I didn’t even bother to read the whole post. I knew it was more of the same and there was nothing I would have gained from reading it. In fact, there was a real danger of me becoming dumber for having read it.

Plans for the weekend involve work and as much rest as I can muster. I have 7 speakers to recone, in addition to the backlog of work that I have been working on before these damn speakers arrived.

But at least I won’t have to answer the phone and interact with the public, something for which I am grateful.

          • Nancy

ahhh…sounds like a nice way to work Fix. I get the whole “public” thing-often for me that’s the whole drain-not the actual work itself!
indeed-I check in once in a while there-for some reason I am not banned and I move on. far more interesting things to do in my day than fight with people on the internet.
            yikes!

          • MsPythia

Good morning Fixer! 🙂 You’re right, I just want to move on too. Yet Ricki and Neb have tormented and harassed so many people for so long, (including stalking me online for four years as I just found out), that it helps to talk about it.

          • The_Fixer

There’s a special disdain I have for stalkers, doxers and swatters. These people are largely mentally ill, and deserve our worst disgust.

4 years and you didn’t find out about it until recently? Good grief, they are demented.

          • Shohanna

Morning fixer, and I agree. Not going to give it another thought.

          • The_Fixer

            Morning, Sho!

Yeah, I am taking the middle road – I want to be aware of a certain amount of what is going on, but not feed it. It’s wise to be aware as they are sick puppies and you must protect yourself. But the important thing is to just let them prattle on, don’t take the bait, and not publicly acknowledge what they have to say.

I think because of your experience, you understand that better than some others. It’s a touchy tap dance, but it’s necessary.

          • Shohanna

Yes, it is. Always be aware and never promote it. It’s down right scary how serious it can turn.

      • Possibly, since that’s a web they could use to trap you in, for more of the same treatment. 🙁

        • cathyx

He’s just trying to keep the insanity going. What a nut.

          • MsPythia

Still wondering if they’re two nuts who found each other, or whether Neb is just another of Ricki’s many, many socks.

          • cathyx

Who knows. Nothing will surprise me about them anymore.

    • Well, since I’ve got all those users banned, it’s a wasteland of “user is blocked,” for me. but it’s still incredibly pitiable behavior. I mean, good god, those people should have a little self-respect and just move on.

      • Nancy

        exactly. there is no self-respect.
I thought the last thread was all about “moving on?”

        • MsPythia

Well, after the thread on Mediaite the night before last, we now know even more about their crazy lying ways. The exposure of it all is driving them to even greater heights of crazy. Last night they put up more nutty exchanges in that thread where everyone called out the Shillbot TBR78 as Ricki. Just as insane.

Neb’s new diatribe continues to show us how nuts he is (if he isn’t himself another Ricki sock) and what a huge liar he is willing to be to cover for everything Ricki does. He either refuses to see how nuts she is, or he’s just as nuts and her co-conspirator in stalking and harassing people.

          • Nancy

hahaha…even if she isn’t-she deserves to be called her! I love that she’s finally getting called out on her vile bullshit. such a nasty one.

          • MsPythia

After reading Plum’s blog and the huge number of people who posted there I was amazed. But then after realizing yesterday that she is the one who has stalked me online for the past four years, I have to add myself to that long line of people that Ricki, and possibly Neb liked to harass and stalk. Just pathetic.

          • Nancy

yes…it’s all over the map-I have no idea who is who and what they have been up to but I think now that things are out there, it’s important to be aware and keep safe. exposing it to light is never a bad thing.

          • MsPythia

            Yeah. Let’s hope it’s not a bad thing…

          • Shohanna

It’s not a bad thing. Exposing it will make it easier to turn her in to the authorities if she gets any worse. /nod

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Hai.

          • MsPythia

            Good Morning Spiffycat! 😀

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            🙂

      • MsPythia

They can’t move on. They’re not right in the head.

        • Nancy

          lol…
          morning!

          • MsPythia

            Good morning Nancy! 😀

    • cathyx

Let’s hope no one responds. That’s what they are craving right now, we need to ignore it all.

      • Nancy

        exactly.

      • The_Fixer

If possible, I would upvote you 1,000 times.

        • cathyx

            🙂

      • Shohanna

Morning Cathy! They made sure to make sure I can’t respond. LOL Fuckers!

        • cathyx

That was my initial response too, but it really is best that we don’t.

          • Shohanna

I agree, I don’t want to be banned from Disqus. lol

    • Shohanna

Oh wow, I am actually banned there! Hahaha I know what it looks like now.

      • MsPythia

Sho, remember when I used to be Truthwhip and closed my account because of that insane stalker. Yeah, that was Ricki. She even continued with her nuttiness in TBR by putting up posts from one of the accounts she stalked me with, and then told me she’d “protect” me there. So Insane.

        • Shohanna

Yeah I read your post yesterday. I couldn’t believe it but it certainly makes sense after seeing her go after 17 and his wife. **smdh** I am so sorry. I knew you had one but damn that’s what I call OBSESSIVE.

          • MsPythia

Yeah. That’s definitely a word that applies.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

      • Nancy

        I am not-go figure!

    • Shohanna

      Morning Nancy!

      • Nancy

        morning Sho!

    • Shohanna

Is it just me or are they completely delusional? All I saw in that “thread” was him making shit up! I mean if your going to “rebuttal” anyone the first thing you need is the goddamned facts atleast. sheesh

      • Nancy

        the insanity is so evident!!!

  • The_Fixer

So, here in the taint of Wisconsin (not quite as bad as the anus, but not quite as good as the fun parts), last night was the second pre-season NFL football game. For those of us who live here, and especially for those of us who live within a 1.5 mile radius of the stadium, home game days are… special. On a Sunday, provided that it is a day off, you learn to stay home before and after the game, as well as during half-time. Some fucking genius decided that it would be wonderful to have a Thursday night game. Unfortunately, I work Thursday evenings, and my commute puts me back in town when? Yes, right when 70,000 people, 65,000 of whom are drunk, decide to leave the game.

Of course, I carefully plan to take the least congested path home. My plan is to skirt around the worst spots and get myself home without major problems. Of course, that doesn’t take into account the frustration of unplanned events.

While driving down my alternate east-west route, which is a little more congested than normal but livable, I come up to a red traffic light at an intersection. A squad car, with lights blazing, has the left-hand turn lane blocked off. Right away, I figure that something is going down (duh!), and am glad that I am not turning left, but going straight ahead. Suddenly, the squad car decided to pull a U-turn and head in the opposite direction from me. I figure “Sweet, now I don’t have to worry about him!”

Except no. Another squad car arrives and blocks the lane in which I plan to continue driving, on the other side of the intersection at which I am stopped. So, everybody in my lane has to take an unplanned right turn onto one of the streets that, further down, is congested with aforementioned sobriety-impaired drivers. But Ahh, I know this neighborhood and as soon as possible, I hook a left and drive down this residential street toward the relatively uncongested street that will take me home.

In the rear-view mirror, I see yet another squad car approaching fast. I figure that he is not interested in me, and I am correct. I pull over and he punches past me, and screeched to a halt at the next intersection, lights blazing. The cop got out of the car and then, lets his dog out of the back seat. The dog is straining at his leash, damn near dragging the cop along with him. Why? The dog is apparently in need of the nearby fire hydrant because he has to piss. The cop jerks the leash and damn near drags him up the street, denying him of much-needed relief. Apparently, one of the city’s finer residents has decided to do something fucking stupid that requires police intervention and that of a police dog.

As soon as the cop is out of sight, I proceed to pass the parked squad car and continue on my way, I come to the intersection where I turn right, putting me back onto the road I had originally planned to take south, toward home. But I notice something off to my left – a train. I know that this train will eventually cross the very road I am on.

Before going further, I would like to say something to the fine people of Canada. I love you guys, I really do. You are wonderful people with a unique point of view, and I am fortunate to be friends with a few of you. However, your railroad, Canadian National, is a piece of shit. Not only is every railroad crossing in this city and invitation to rip out the undercarriage of one’s car, but they do stupid shit like schedule trains during the worst part of rush hour and when a stadium full of people, many of whom are drunk, are trying to make their way home. I hate Canadian National, and would live to devise a method of torture for its executive leadership tailored to both their worst fears and dread. That is how much I hate Canadian National. They can take their shitty-looking dilapidated locomotives, their fucking ridiculously shitty railroad crossings and whatever broken automotive suspension parts that litter those crossings and stick them up their executive’s asses.

Naturally, just as I think I will be able to beat the train, the crossing lights come on and I have to slam on the brakes. 10 minutes go by while I wait, listening to music as the traffic piles up behind me. Eventually, it passes and I am once again on my way, with people tailgating me as I make my way toward home. Apparently, going 5 MPH above the speed limit through a residential area when there are cops everywhere is not good enough for these assholes. Eventually, I do make it home unscathed.

In conclusion, I have a few giant Fuck-Yous to pass out. Fuck You to the NFL. Fuck You to Canadian National, and Fuck You to the guy who apparently chose the worst night to do whatever he had done to get the police on his ass.

Let’s hope Friday is better, shall we?

    • Nancy

there should never be trains in cities without overpasses.
or, they should not be allowed to pass through during daylight hours.
I hear that-loud and clear and hate them-any and all of them. there is a huge rail yard right smack dab in the middle of Winnipeg. imagine the clusterfucks that occur on daily basis.

    • “‘taint the asshole, and ‘taint the balls!” as we say around here. LOL.

Two words that we have, unfortunately, gotten all too used to hearing.

Good Day, MsP. Hope Friday is treating you well so far.

Thanks Fixer — so far so good! 🙂 Hope yours is too!

          Hi Fixer.

    • For me, personally, I don’t have a problem with re-posts, as long as they don’t get out of hand (like 4-5 times in the same thread. LOL)…

      • Thanks Unka:^)

        • No problem, there’s plenty I miss, just like everyone else.

    • MsPythia

I love this Richard Wolff guy!

      • Right I haven’t ever heard of him before, but I’m glad Lee Camp interviewed him.

        • MsPythia

          Me too! 🙂

          • I live in a densely packed Republican area.

I cannot tell you what it means to me, to be able to share my values with people like yourself, I just wanted you to know that. <3

          • SpiffyTheValiant

@.@ Yes, yes, I understand completely. That awkward moment when you glance at your facebook status updates and see that you know people who posted Confederate Flags. (In PENNSYLVANIA. )

          • A very long time ago I started a Facebook page when they put my address out and my full name and I couldn’t figure out how to get it off. I never posted there again :/

I also don’t tweet or participate in Reddit. This is it, this is my one online reach-out to other people of like mind. <3

Same for both of you! I live in “subs” with nothing but red paunch conservatives. I would lose my mind if it wasn’t for you guys. /nod

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a beef with Microsoft and how they promoted Windows 10. They also have a problem with Microsoft’s use of “telemetry”, a more peasant term than “data scraping.”

    http://www.zdnet.com/article/eff-rips-microsoft-for-blatant-disregard-of-user-choice-and-privacy-in-windows-10/

First off, the EFF is a lot late in their complaints about how Microsoft tried to jam Windows 10 down people’s throats. That should have been nipped in the bud 6 months ago. But I do have a problem with ZDnet’s article here:

Microsoft can’t deliver security updates, bug fixes, and driver updates to a device without knowing some information about the hardware and installed software on that device. Enterprise customers can work around this issue using management tools like Windows Server Update Services, which aren’t available to consumers.

This is wrong. Windows 7 and 8 delivered updates to people’s computers without data scraping in the manner that Windows 10 does. The author needs to be hit repeatedly with pool noodle until he understands this.

Don’t do Windows 10. It offers little in the way of any benefits, and there are better alternatives out there that do not treat you as a data point that will make some corporation money.

    • Windows 10 is Spyware, and I don’t run it, and no one else should either. Why did people think it was “free”?!? TANSTAAFL!

      • The_Fixer

Well, that and it was another tactic to expand their monopoly in a changing tech landscape. They weren’t able to extinguish Linux, partly because it’s free. Now they have open-sourced .Net and PowerShell (a convoluted piece of shit if I ever saw one) in an effort to compete with Open Source stuff such as Linux and Free BSD. Then they decided to put bash on Windows, allowing another set of security holes to develop in their already Swiss-Cheese operating system.

Embrace… Extend… Extinguish is all they have ever been about, and they are choosing ever more creative ways of continuing that M.O.

        • Powershell is nonsense, for sure, but the (core) .Net framework is one of my favorite programming tools, ever. I use it and it’s opensource version, Mono to do all my desktop programming. Now, true, ASP.Net can’t hold a candle to something php’s Zend framework, in combination with ECMAScript, it’s too bloated and un-agile for that.

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, I am not a programmer, more of a sys admin. I have had to (try) and use PowersHell a few times for (drum roll) those times when there is an underlying problem in Windows that I am trying to get rid of or at least mitigate. Any attempt at using it has gotten me nothing but frustration. One command will work on certain versions of Windows with certain feature sets enabled, but not on another.

For example, the place I work at has POS terminal setups running on Win 7. Part of that setup is a debit card PIN pad. These are USB connected and are assigned virtual COM ports. Every once in a while, for no traceable reason, Windows will not free up that COM port when shutting down. Upon restart, it will assign the PIN pad to a new COM port. The POS program looks for that PIN pad at a specific COM port address. So, I get a note from the sales people saying that the PIN pad isn’t working again when Windows does this.

I have researched this 7 ways to Sunday, asked about it on forums, and tried to get a response from the vendor, all to no avail. I tried various PowersHell and .Net commands and they don’t work. There is no way to correct this short of writing a program in C, and that is fraught with peril as I would have to learn at least a part of it. C is an art form, and you gotta know what the hell you are doing lest you fuck something else up when using it.

This happens on multiple computers at different and unpredictable times, and disappears just as mysteriously.

I am sure that .Net (and Mono) are effective tools for programmers, but for a guy who is an admin, network and troubleshooting guy, neither has been very helpful. That’s not to say that they haven;t helped somebody in a situation similar to mine, but I simply can’t imagine that happening given my experience.

          • Shohanna

Sounds like the bios is set one way, and windows is set another way and sometimes it doesn’t initiate in the boot strap. Windows doesn’t like that and freaks out.

Check the bios and the names of the terminals in the bios. Which com is which. and then save it to match what’s set up in windows and see if that doesn’t solve the problem.

          • The_Fixer

Checked the BIOS, that only works for hardware COM ports – like the old RS-232 ports. This is a USB device assigned a “Virtual” COM port (COM9). BIOS only directly (in most cases) supports COM1 through COM4. That is a DOS holdover.

Yeah, if it were a BIOS problem, a hardware reset (like on power-up) would have fixed it. Not to be. It’s strictly an operating system problem, no BIOS conflicts. The USB subsystem only has to deal with an interrupt, and there are no interrupt problems here (otherwise it would not work to start with).

What makes it more frustrating is that it comes and goes in a totally unpredictable manner, and it’s not just on one computer. It’s one of life’s great mysteries.

          • Shohanna

Ah I see. They updated the com ports at some point and I remember getting a Windows update in Vista, and omfg it screwed everything on my computer for a good month and a half. I remember following some boards comments and I found a fix for it. I was skeptical right? I mean it could have been some dangerous virus. But DAMN did it fix the issue and I never had another problem.

You could try looking it up on google and following the /r/ threads, there seriously are some awesome comp techs who know wtf they are doing. They possibly have run across the same problem and might have a fix for you.

Man, the Olympics are a fucking joke. “Badminton” as an Olympic sport? Really? What’s next…Mumblypegs? Knitting? Tiddlywinks?

    • cathyx

Not sure why badminton is worse than beach volleyball, dead weight lifting, or bmx cycling.

      • 17

I gues you’d defend Olympic Free-style Kite Flying too, huh?

        • cathyx

Just because you think badminton is just a backyard game you play while you’re drunk, doesn’t mean it’s not a sport. That’s why i mentioned volleyball.

          • The_Fixer

Being drunk is what makes it a sport!

    • MsPythia

Knitting might be fun if you didn’t have to watch it, but just got to see them racing towards the finish line! 😀

Prison Stock Prices Collapse After Feds Announce End to Private Prison Use

The Department of Justice’s announcement on Thursday that it would reduce or terminate contracts with private prison companies commanded headlines and provided cautious hope to those determined to end America’s age of mass incarceration. But what happened directly after the DoJ revealed its decision provides deeper insight into the corporatist structure that pervades the United States.

Shortly after the announcement, stock prices for two of the biggest companies in the private prison industry suffered massive, historic losses.

  • SmotPoker

Fuck me to tears! Just picked up my car from my local mechanics.

It fucking died on me as I was turning into my complex….

But of fucking course it did, what else was I expecting?

    • :O

    • Oh smot:( give that stupid car a good kick.

      • SmotPoker

If it was a horse, I’d have shot it long ago….

    • MsPythia

Damn. You need a new ride Smotty.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

Smot…maybe you should just get a bicycle <3

      • The_Fixer

It’s a long ride to Florida, though 🙂

yup. but at the rate he’s going…

Yeah, it might be faster 🙂

          • SmotPoker

          • SpiffyTheValiant

yeah. hate to say it, but yeah <3

          • MsPythia

You poor man — you’ve been through too much recently! <3

          • Let me add the <3 as well.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

    • Shohanna

Oh man Smot, it seems your car does not want to get up and go! So did they have a reason why your car won’t Go? I think they owe you some money and/or time or both.

      • SmotPoker

They gave a reason why they didn’t think it ran, and what they did to “fix” it. As for owing me money that is on Firestone who originally didn’t do it correctly, and has cost me more money down the road. They are going to eat all or a significant sum of it.

It’s a piece of shit 1995 Taurus. My kid told me she has a friend with a 2005 Patriot with new tires, and 110k on it, for $5k and I laughed at her, as if I had $5k sitting around to just shit out for a new car….

That’s the ex wife’s side in her coming out….

        • Shohanna

I know exactly how you feel. My youngest decided to total her brand new ford focus a few years back. We went with CarMax and she wanted a car exactly like the one she had. We managed to do it and it didn’t cost as much as a new car. She was happy and so was the insurance. They have financing there and I have good experiences with them and their warranties if you wanted a recommend. 😀

In case you didn’t. My apologies! I really wish I could come and help you. There are things that I know about that save me so much time and money, but to explain them out, I would have to experience it first. Does that make sense? Like I couldn’t list them off the top of my head. It just doesn’t work like that for me. I feel bad b/c I know how to do these things and I can’t pass it on fast enough for you to avoid the pitfalls. It’s like I am watching this slow mo vid and I am going NO, NO, NO, ah crap. LOL

If it’s not too weird. How old are you? I am 45.. /sigh Too long a road atm. It feels like I am looking at my past and attempting to change it.

    • The_Fixer

Oh, shit. I would say that you have rotten luck, but that would mean you have luck to start with (at least with cars).

Here’s a fun fact: The first Ford I owned was the last Ford I owned, and there will not be another one.

Hope you can get this problem fixed, however, it may require taking the same action as I did – getting rid of it and not buying another one.

  • SmotPoker

Manafort stepping down from Trump campaign? Oh this shit just keeps getting and better. The putrid gift that keeps on giving. Fruit from a rotten tree.

FBI Notes Reveal Hillary Clinton Said Colin Powell Urged Her To Use A Private Email

For years, president Obama’s recurring excuse for the poor performance of the US economy was that it was “Bush’s fault.” It appears that Hillary Clinton took a page out of the playbook when, pressed by the FBI, she told federal investigators that former Secretary of State Colin Powell suggested she use a personal email account, according to a New York Times report.

  • 17

I received this email today from one of our allies, and have gotten permission to post it here. I agree with it and am asking for your cooperation:

Neb and Ricki have now put up a whole page JUST for their rebuttals to “our” public fights. I did hate the thought that they were reading and getting off on this, and it seems they were.

The thing is, they are desperate now and trying to use this. I know that none of ours will take the bait, and I hope none of yours do either. No response at all from ANYONE will kill them. They are baiting and hoping and have probably unbanned everyone they banned to try to lure them back in to this debate of how Ricki is not completely insane, and every one of us are the bad guys. The usual.
If none of us respond, it may bring out socks, too. They will want “others” supporting them, even if it is their socks. If people do respond, then they are just being played like puppets to the Neb and
Ricki string pulling. Hope we all work together on this one!

Hard as it may be, let’s try this. I don’t know about any of you, but I’ve expended far too much time. The word’s out…let’s see if they slink away in shame as they should.

    • MsPythia

I have no intention on saying another word to those two. They’ve already caused enough trouble because that’s what they both live to do. Fuck them.

    • RTIII

The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference, and that’s how I feel about them – indifferent.

I couldn’t care less, won’t respond, won’t even read it, and who gives a fuck if they un-ban?! I have nothing to say to them, ever.

    • Dosido3
      • cathyx

lol, that’s what i think of too when i think of Ricki.

    • Dosido3

I’m ready to put all this behind us. I didn’t get the abuse that others did but living well is the best revenge. No more verbal shots please…that’s what malignant narcissists crave. Feel the power of not paying an iota of attention. Peace.

    • SmotPoker

I wasn’t there as I was dealing with my own difficulties (believe me, I’d trade in a heart beat) so I’m not exactly sure what went down. I know the internet is made for drama, both real, and imagined. I’m just staying the fuck out of the way. Having said that….

I’ve had run in’s with Rikki in the past, but it’s always been resolved when she comes back, and apologizes, giving one reason or another for her making me a target of her anger. I think she’s a lonely person, that has some issues that need to be resolved with the help of professionals, medication, and perhaps some group therapy. I don’t take mental health issues lightly, I find them to be a sad state of affairs often made worse by our dog eat dog society. I’m not a doctor by any stretch of the imagination, but I have seen my fair share of bi-polar individuals, and I believe her to be suffering from that in some form or another. Rikki wants to be loved, but Rikki will also bite any given hand at any given time.

I don’t say this to be mean either. I say it in the hopes that perhaps she’ll read this, and come to understand that these isolated incidents add up to one big snowball of drama that nobody wants or needs in their lives. I think that underneath the rants is a person seeking acceptance, but unwilling/unable to come to terms with themselves first, which is the first step in being accepted by society at large. When the Rikki of the light is around she’s fine, it’s the dark Rikki that drives people away. She needs to find a way to spend more time in the light.

      Just my unprofessional opinion.

      • The_Fixer

        And a damn good one.

        • SmotPoker

Thank you. We all have our issues. Hell I have more issues than National Geographic in my past, but it’s not what defines me today. I won’t let it. It took some serious navel gazing on my end, along with a very long look in the mirror at what I had allowed myself to degenerate into.

One thing I do know is that nobody else could change me or my behavior. That was on me, and me alone.

    • Edwin

I had a look, of course. One comment from Neb, 10 hours ago. I quickly scanned bits of it (didn’t read the whole thing.) Looks pretty sad. He feels kicked. He dishonours Warf using that avatar.

  • RTIII

in an email this morning I found this funny bit:

“Naked statues of Donald Trump titled ‘The Emperor Has No Balls’ are popping up in major cities”

    I can’t help but chuckle.

I guess the DNC will do ANYTHING to install Hillary, including making tacky tourist mementos.

    • SmotPoker

Didn’t you see the pics I posted of one in NYC yesterday? NSFW, but funny as fuck.

      • RTIII

No, sorry, been SUPER busy! 🙂

        • SmotPoker

No need to apologize. They are still there if you care dare to look….

    • Dosido3

      The Empress had no integrity.

    • SmotPoker

For the record, I’m quite thankful they didn’t include a naked Hillary to the exhibit…..

      • Edwin

        I second this.

    • My thoughts almost exactly, “There’s just too many of these expensive things for it to be the “art project” the press is saying it is.”

      • SmotPoker

Perhaps Donald paid for them himself to make the Democrats look bad by insinuating that they are responsible? I don’t put anything past either team this cycle.

        • I’ll go with “Occam’s Razor For $100” on this one, though. I just don’t think anyone in the Trump campaign is quite that sophisticated in game-theory.

          😉

    • Left of Eden

And yet WE’RE the sexist ones.

      • RTIII

        Indeed, we must be! :))

I can look the other way on alot of things that are illegal, but nothing makes my blood boil like adults taking advantage of children.

      • SmotPoker

The cherry on top of the anger is that it’s yet again another religious leader doing the damage. They hide behind their Big Book of Bullshit while proclaiming that everyone else is going to their pretend hell.

The very worst of the worst. As soon as they are found guilty they should be de-nutted, branded as a child molester, and sent into society at large for us to deal with them. Barbaric? Perhaps, but I’d bet money that after a few of them going through it, the numbers would start to drop…..

Predators plain, and simple. The worst of the worst.

      • Dosido3

        Lol. Good one, Spiffy!

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          😉 I try.

      • MsPythia

Copied? Pfft. She’d have ordered someone in her loyalty sphere to take the course and the test for her! She’s above following rules and protocols — she’s Hillary! 🙂

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          lmao

  • SmotPoker

What’s this? A company with a modicum of ethics, and morals? Holy shit. Looks like I just might have to support Under Armour for taking this stance against a sadist prick.

They are dropping their endorsement deal with the wife of the “hunter” who speared a bear only to let it die a slow, and painful death then put the video on Youtube. Good. Fuck them.

    • Dosido3

Good. And I’m hoping that Ryan Lochte’s sponsors will drop him after his ridiculous and immature “antics” in Rio.

      • SmotPoker

As do I, along with his cohorts sponsors. Drop them assholes like a hot rock. Lochte is 32 fucking years old, far too old to pawn it off as a stunt from a stupid kid. He’s a grown ass man, and should know better, so should the others for that matter. They were well versed in proper, and acceptable behavior before this trip. They were informed that they were ambassadors for America. No excuse for this shit other than sheer stupidity.

        • Dosido3

Soooo sick of athletic entitlement to treat others like crap. So done.

          • SmotPoker

I hear you, I can barely tolerate the NFL anymore knowing what a scuzzy operation it truly is, and the fact that all that moolah is tax free, and has a protected monopoly.

One day I’ll kick the lifelong habit of watching my Lions get their asses handed to them week in, and week out….

          • Dosido3

Lol. I left the NFL long long ago…and college football too. I don’t watch NBA either. I watch pro baseball and college hoops.

          • SmotPoker

Baseball bores me to tears, I’ve always preferred playing it to watching it. Hoops can be fun to watch at the college level, but I can’t stand the pros anymore. Everyone gets to take three steps with the ball when they drive the hoop just like MJ could back in his day. Nope. I ain’t going to watch that shit.

  • Dosido3

Hey gang, I was just dropping into say hello. Had a minor medical procedure so I’m taking it easy. This video about disco seems appropriate 🙂 it also has some nice music history in the notes.

    • Loved the Tubes. Fee was a family friend.

      • Dosido3

Wow! Seriously? Any fun stories you can share?

        • LOL, not in public. But, really, by the time I had a chance to know him, he was already pretty calmed down from the heyday of the Tubes and was already writing/producing for Richard “fucking” Marx.

          Good people though.

          • Dosido3

Ah, respecting the boundaries. Good man. I loved white punks on dope and especially love I’m proud to be an American. 🙂

          • They always made me crack up, and rocked me too. What more could a kid want? 😀

          • Dosido3

My story is that a friend of my dads, an accountant, said that the Tubes were “surprisingly” conservative…with their money. Well, yeah. I took that to mean they were not willing to invest in one of his real estate schemes. So that just added to my respect.

    • Edwin

Have a good rest and share with us when you are able. Hope it all went well.

  • SmotPoker

Sweet Tap Dancing Christ! Some folks must just have a stupid gene in them. Young person of color at Trump rally thrown out, labeled as a known protester despite this being his first appearance at a Trump rally. He comes from a family that emigrated from India, and are Republicans. After all this shit, and being profiled, they will still vote for an Authoritarian in Gary Johnson.

Fucking stupid. Just fucking stupid, and you can’t fix it. A whole family of idiots.

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/election/article96648367.html

  • WOW. My ancient Radeon 6850 is finally dying today (the fan keeps cutting off, even after a thorough cleaning), after a massive 6-year run. It’s been a great card: Hella Overclockable and with memory lots of newer cars still don’t have, giving it the ability to keep running new games right up to No Man’s Sky.

Fortunately, I found a replacement within my current budget (sub $100) that should do the trick, though it probably won’t perform as well am the newest titles.

    • smkngman3

      Boo Hoo!

My laptop died! I believe the hard drive quit. Right now using an OLD Toshiba Vista with no working battery and a busted AC input.

I breath on in wrong, it dies!

      • SmotPoker

Boo hoo hoo my car has died, and I’m well, and truly fucked….

        • smkngman3

After all you did to repair it, it’s gone?

You’ve got me beat for sure.

          • Yeah, there’s some bad stuff, right there. Might be time to scrap it and start over with a car that’s new (to you, Smot).

          • smkngman3

My Lenovo never gets past the windows screen which makes me believe it’s the HD. Was contemplating replacing the HD but I’d lose Windows 7. Never tried linux.

          • RTIII

For your next such purchase, get a “solid state disk drive” – “SSD.” SSDs aren’t really disk drives – they’re memory that doesn’t lose what it contains when the power goes off. Because the only moving parts are electrons, they’re VERY much more reliable and potentially much longer lived, though they do have finite lifetimes due to the physics of the memory.

With an SSD, not only will your system be dramatically faster, but it will also be more reliable, especially for a laptop because there’s basically nothing to be damaged by the shock of dropping it.

          • smkngman3

Hate to give up on the Lenovo. You’re know far more than I. Am I right in assuming that its the HD?

When I bring up boot options they all bring me to the windows loading screen, which never loads.

          • RTIII

OK, so, you pop in the original Windows disk CD / DVD and boot on it. Depending on your boot options, it MAY just boot onto the CD / DVD straight away, or you may have to go through the setup screens to tell it to boot from the CD / DVD.

If it won’t boot the CD / DVD, you’ve got something else going on. Could be the disk controller on the motherboard or it could be the power supply, or even the CPU or memory… At that point all you can say is, “hardware problem.”

If it boots, you have some options, including having it run tests of the disk and there’s also “memtest” but I don’t think it comes on Windows disks, but I could be wrong – been a long time since I needed that! At any rate, there’s an option to “repair Windows” or some similar verbage… I would run the hardware tests if you have that option, then do it again and ask it to repair Windows…

          • smkngman3

In boot options there is i memory check which tested with no problems.

Repair windows goes to “Starting Windows”.

They have a partition on the HD but I can’t get to it.

          • RTIII

You might need professional help! 😉

          • Never use branded PCs, always build my own. So, my first temptation is to quip, “Well, Lenova, what do you expect?” But I will refrain. It does sound like a software issue. If you have the original Windows install disk, you can try just re-installing it over the current install. The Windows install disk should also let you scan your HD for errors.

If you do have to replace the HD, RT’s advice below is good advice.

As far as Linux goes, you’ll find “Ubuntu Linux” to be a pretty comfortable replacement for Windows. Their default “start bar” works a tad different, but the windowing metaphors are pretty much exactly the same as MS Windows.

          • smkngman3

Didn’t come with an install disk.

I’ll see if Lenovo will send me one.

          • RTIII

ANY windows disk should have some basic hardware diagnostic, but you’ll want the right version of the disk to match your OS in order to do the “repair windows” stuff.

You don’t have to get it from Lenovo…

          • RTIII

Could be a bad power supply…

          • smkngman3

Starts. Just never gets past windows loading screen.

          • RTIII

Yes, it’s most likely software as Unka says – or a flaky disk drive or disk controller. But I have had that behavior from a bad power supply, too. Turns out there are different power requirements for starting up and I’ve seen a bad supply cause hangs during boot. But then, I (usually) have the luxury of other parts laying around I can just swap out to test with.

Unka’s recommendation to use the original Windows disk is the right next step for you…

          • The_Fixer

Could also be those filter caps on the mother board (1500-2200 uF @ 6.3 volts or so). While the “capacitor plague” is supposedly behind us, I have run into a number of mother boards with bulged caps.

I might have a card that can do the trick for you. I’d have to check it though, I haven’t turned on my PC in ages, I’ve used the laptop, and the iPad for years now.

      • Never use Apple products, if I can help it. Not a fan of laptops either. But it’s OK, I got a replacement and I’ll pick it up today. Suits my requirements of having 2gb of memory and supporting 2 displays. $65, out the door.

        • SmotPoker

The PC ain’t an Apple, the only Apple I own is the gift iPad from daughter which was invaluable on my little adventure this month. Glad you found something that works for you. I’ll still check mine later to see exactly what it is, I know when I bought the card when I was putting the PC together I went for something that would make it a mid level gamer machine. I’m almost positive it would have suited your needs.

        • RTIII

You mean just the card, I presume.

I’ve got three in this box… All three are Nvidia GeForce GT520s. They weren’t expensive, either, but I don’t recall how much memory they have!

          • Yeah, just the card. s’all I need, for now. When I do replace the desktop, probably the last one I’ll buy, I’ll probably drop about $1200, all custom-self-built, of course

          • Oh, and, also, while they’re fine cards, I have a habit of not using NVidia cards. No technical or economic reasons behind it, like with Apple products, just plain old, stupid, brand loyalty. LOL.

          • RTIII

Or DISloyalty as the case may be!

For me, this was just the cheapest that met my requirements.

I kinda wish I had a good game for it, or two, though, but not sure what will run on this thing. It’s Windows 7 professional. -shrug-

          • Anything. I’m using Pro right now and run everything I want. Win7 doesn’t pass its best-by date for another 4 years.

          • RTIII

OK, so unlike days gone by, the game makers make stuff that runs on “Pro”? Hmmm… I always wondered why they screwed with us by making their games NOT run on the professional OS versions…

          • Yeah, they don’t care. And really, the “Professional” and “Enterprise” versions of Windows 7 and above are really nothing more than versions with some extra installable software (like the IIS web-server and such, If I Remember Correctly)

    • RTIII

…My box can support up to 8 monitors right now, but I only have six connected…

      http://sciencetools.com/images/RT_6_monitors_1.jpg

The box itself is a Supermicro server class board with 8 CPUs and 24 gigs main memory fed its OS by a 6gbps 128 gig ssd… It connects to the rest of the world via gigabit twisted pair – no, not the ten, unfortunately, but it’s fast enough!

      • SmotPoker

I can feel your eyes upon me….

        • RTIII

          -chuckle-

          It’s the NSA I’m watching! 🙂

      • Yeah, I stopped needing that kind of power when I stopped editing HD video and running climate sims. Now I’m good with a little quad-core with 16g mem, two monitors and an acceptable GPU. 😀

        • RTIII

A few years ago I was the CTO / VP Engineering of E-HealthTrust, and I got the box originally as a perk. I probably wouldn’t have popped for high-end equipment like this otherwise! But, it’s great to have. I try and use it to the fullest!

You get used to all the screen realestate – leave stuff up all the time, switch tasks at the drop of a hat! Faster than that even! 🙂

          • Oh yeah, I couldn’t live without two displays. But I’ve found that I get diminishing returns from more than 3. But that’s probably just my work flow. YMMV.

          • RTIII

I feel like I’m slumming when I have to run on 5, as was the case recently when one died until I could replace it…

They do think we’re incredibly stupid . In general … they are right , that’s the trouble .

If you go to you know where and look at the comments I’d say their (DNC) researchers know you’re stupid (not you, kreskin). Can be led around like cattle.

          • Edwin

You find the same sort of thing in Canada and other well-to-do countries. If people don’t feel any real pain personally they get busy with their own lives and watch a bit of TV news to “stay informed”. Some might be more informed than that, but as they are not seriously affected they don’t seem to be overly concerned about the problems.

It’s messy and complicated and no one they know is being killed so they put it on the back burner.

          • kreskin

Government censorship has a lot to do with it . No flag draped caskets , no bodies , no blood , no agony , no pain , no suffering … nice and sanitized for the American / western public.

          • MsPythia

I agree. Part of the propaganda in this country is making sure we don’t see anything that might change the views that are being fed to us. It’s why I have to read foreign news sites to know what’s going on here. There are a few sites in the US that do as well, but they don’t have big budgets to really do investigative journalism.

          • smkngman3

A reporter not embedded with US forces is a reporter with a target painted on his/her back.

          • Edwin

At one time we could rely on blogs to report the unreported news. Now many simply disseminate party politics, many lie, and many are useless. I hope most of them go bankrupt after the election (or before.)

          • kreskin

A good example . Look at media coverage and our reaction when the terrorists score a hit on us or on one of our European allies . We’re doing the same damn thing on a daily basis , but on a much bigger scale . No one cares.

          • Edwin

That whole “We are Charlie” thing turned my stomach. Not because I don’t feel for the victims of violence, but because of the whole predictable, orchestrated, bullshit rich-Western-country campaign that followed was nauseating.

The idea of allowing the government to offer a health plan directly to families was blocked in 2010 because private insurers didn’t want to face the competition.

No One is Sadder Than I Am About the Most Recent Celebrity Death

This is not the first celebrity death that has profoundly affected me on a personal level. I was crushed when Art Linkletter died. Heartbroken when Etta James died. Impaled with a flaming grief-javelin when Robin Williams died. When Dennis Farina died, I writhed on the ground for months. It was awful on my joints, but not as awful as having to tell my joints that Mark Ruffalo died. Luckily, that was a hoax.

  • Edwin

    Good morning, fine people.

    • Good morning Edwin, I hope you slept well:)

      • Edwin

Good morning, Stephanie. Not bad. Only got up twice. This is the best time of day, before sun-up. It’s “cool” for a bit.

The temp is to go a couple of degrees (C) this weekend. Sometimes that’s enough to make all the difference. (fingers crossed).

Anyway, sorry to bore everyone about weather, but it’s all you can think about when you’re stuck in it sweating like a pig day and night.

        • Weather has gotten a bad rap, it’s actually a great topic of conversation. Which can lead to deep conversations like Regional climate, climate change, global warming.

Plus on top of that it’s a topic that we all can identify with. Who hasn’t been chilled to the bone, buy a freezing winter or sticky hot in an excessively humid summer.

Besides anyways you’re never boring. Sorry for all you guys who are suffering from excessive heat.

          https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3Dm648v4s5sFc&ved=0ahUKEwjK56uzrc7OAhUBSCYKHZN0ACwQwqsBCB4wAA&usg=AFQjCNHTZYfH_vMPmvnh13Yt5LX3zXnqaA&sig2=ICl3Tr-BCQ9A54JpC6FaLg

          • Edwin

That’s kind of you to say, Stephanie. (Would you like to be one of my cheerleaders? I have a few vacancies.)

I think the “weather topic” gets a bum rap because it is bus stop chatter, or elevator chatter. In truth, it can be a good ice breaker and ease social situations. You’re right, it’s something we all have a stake in.

PS one of the guys who came back from the space station said the thing he missed most was weather. I can see that.

What I know is every summer after suffering this heat, autumn in Korea is glorious and it truly is. In autumn NE Asia is dry, sunny, very little rain and the sky is clear and blue blue blue for weeks on end. Last year we got about 10 weeks of “Indian summer.” It was lovely!! Autumn is the very best time to visit Korea or Japan and probably Beijing/NE China too (never been).

    • MsPythia

Hi Edwin! Hope you’re having a good day!

      • Edwin

So far so good. Early morning, not hot (yet). :~>

        How is Ms today?

        • MsPythia

I’m okay. Still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that the person who stalked me for four years invited me into her spider’s web of a blog.

          • Edwin

I was scanning over at Plum’s. I saw one or two of your comments. I think I should re-visit that thread because there is a lot of new stuff.

They are sick. It seems Neb is a Clinton supporter too. Ricki is your stalker, yet she deleted stuff “to protect you.” They are fucked-in-the-head crazy douchewads.

If TBR78 is not Ricki he/she is sympathetic to and probably working with Ricki. Neb and Ricki probably have a few allies. I bet others figure into this toxic stew– people we all know. (nudge nudge, wink wink) .. (say no more)

          • MsPythia

Well now that I saw that Plum is being stalked by “Chief Wiggum” I’m certain that Ricki and/or Neb is my stalker, since that name was used to viciously and abusively troll me several times too.
I still think that TBR78 and Marissa is them as well. It reeked of them.

          • Edwin

Marissa = Ricki for sure. No doubt. TBR78 98% sure.

I don’t want to fight at Plum’s place (it’s hard not to) (grrr) (hillbotism)

          • MsPythia

There was just something about the whole tone of what was said, and the way TBR78, Marissa and Neb gushed all over each other that let me know it was them and their socks.

          • Edwin

TBR78 is nasty. That they all showed up and worked in unison is enough for me to spell GUILTY. If it’s not Ricki it’s someone I don’t want to know.

          • cathyx

It HAS to be her. The similarities were too much to be a coincidence.

          • Edwin

The only reason I’m leaving a 2% doubt is over at Plum’s they are swearing TBR78 is not Ricki.

          • cathyx

Yes, i feel the same way. But, reading her stuff and knowing what a psycho ricki is, i find it hard to believe it’s not really her.

          • Edwin

I am not qualified to decide. 😀 (wink)

          • cathyx

I’ve been studying Ricki for a long while now. I feel somewhat of an expert, lol.

          • Edwin

I don’t want to make more enemies from Plum’s who can see my comments here.

          • cathyx

Nothing you’ve said should make any enemies with them. We have a common foe.

          • Edwin

Whatevs. You know me, the eternal diplomat AKA Kindness-man.

          • MsPythia

But they didn’t just spend months in her blog. The voice was the same. The boasting and arrogance the same. And the fact that Neb was there to tell her how wonderful she is, yeah that’s just too much of a coincidence.

          • Edwin

Too be honest, I can’t keep track of everyone, never mind all their socks.

If you are nice to me I am nice back. If you’re not nice to me on more than one occasion I return the favour. If you’re mean to me I never forget.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            ms 🙂

          • Edwin

You won’t get any argument from me.

          • MsPythia

I think it is too. Or Neb.

          • MsPythia

TBR78 is a nasty, nasty piece of work. She’s been constantly in the political blogs and never failed to attack me, and all other Bernie supporters wherever she goes.

  • RTIII

Apropos of nothing, this morning I got a nice email from someone I only met once a long time ago saying they’d seen some of my engineering and how they thought it was a true work of art.

    So, I thought I’d share… I invented a new product for ancient Porsche engines…

To understand the problem it solves, one needs a small bit of background:

Way back in the 1950s a wire mesh screen was considered adequate oil filtration. Add in a magnet to pick up ferrous metal particles in the oil and you’re doing great. Add in a partial “bypass” filter, and hey, what more could you want?!

Well, any particles that get loose in the oil act like sandpaper and wear things out in a hurry, and a wire mesh screen isn’t good enough to filter them, so, given how valuable these engines are today and how rare and hard to find the parts are, we need better preservation than that… HOWEVER, nobody wants to modify their ultra-valuable, ultra-rare engine, either, so what to do?

Enter my new product! It’s an oil pump that lets you take ALL the oil flow out of the engine and do what you want with it – basically filtering and cooling – and then put it back into the engine to continue on its merry way WITHOUT having to modify the engine at all. It’s what we call a “bolt on solution” – easily un-done if desired! However, it’s even more trick than just that because Porsche decided to run a mechanical tachometer drive off of the oil pump, so, to not lose the tachometer drive in the process, that has to be provided for as well!

I created a web page for it!

    http://356coachworks.com/share/engines/FullFlowOilPumpWTachometerDrive.html

It doesn’t show all the trick parts for it, like the two helical gears that run the tachometer and the two shafts, but that’s on purpose because I don’t want to help any competition! 🙂

    • MsPythia

      That’s great RT! 🙂

      • RTIII

        Thanks!

        Hope you’re having a great day! 🙂

        • MsPythia

          I’m doing okay, thanks.

        • Edwin

He’s a professor and has studied at all those biggies (Harvard, Stanford etc.) In one video he said it was interesting that having studied economics at 3 Ivy League schools not once had he studied Marx: it’s not offered. People talk about Marx, some of his ideas are tossed around, but he is never studied. Marx offered a critique of Capitalism, showed all its failings and shortcomings, and that’s probably why

          • It’s funny that you brought him up because I discovered him today by watching redacted tonight with Lee Camp in a interview. I posted two of his lectures down thread by Democracy at work.

Here is the third that I’ve been listening to today.
            http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CRAWjf5cZLQ

He’s really good I like him.

          • Edwin

Yes, he’s very good. I should watch some more of his videos. I went on a jag with him for a while and then moved on to another topic (as I am wont to do.)

          • :^) This makes me think to ask you if you have ever read the book The Acquisitive Society. It would be in my top 5 of all time favorite books.

I have yet to meet one person who has read that book whether college-educated or not (which is extremely sad to me by the way) and yet it’s posted all over the web for free.

          • Edwin

Sadly, I have not been a reader in Korea. Back in Canada I always had a stack of books in my to be read pile and always read.

It’s weird. My life changed, I got into the computer. I don’t have a cozy reading nook (essential for me).

          • I confessed since I’ve become involved online. I have read less.

I do miss a detailed, complex look into a single topic.

          • Edwin

Me too. One day I plan to return to Canada (at least for a while) and putting reading back up to the top of my list is at the top of my list.

          • :^)

          • Edwin

I don’t know if I will be able to “retire” in Canada (cost) so I always consider “3rd world” countries as an alternative.

          • A part of me would love to experience another culture by living there. That it may be kinder to my pocketbook would be icing on the cake.

But my family is here hopefully not too much further in the future and I’ll have grandkids. I don’t want to miss any of that.

          • Edwin

Living in another culture you learn so much about your own culture you had no idea about (and largely the unattractive bits.) You see stuff you never noticed living in your own culture.

It’s not for everyone. Some people hate it. I think everyone should try it for at least a year. I have been in Asia so long I experience reverse culture shock when I return to Canada for a visit. There is a lot I really like about Asia. By and large people are much more down to earth. And there is endless fascinating stuff to see– woo boy!!

Before I came here I never really had much interest in Asia, but as I have had much opportunity to travel over the years Asia has been unfolding for me like a living storybook. It has been truly fascinating. I feel 100% at home in many Asian countries now. Even the immigration guy at the airport here in Seoul said, “Wow, you are totally Asiafied.” It was the gestures, the demeanour, etc. It made me laugh and I just said, “Yup,” and smiled. He smiled too.

          • Sorry Edwin I had a friend unexpectedly drop by.

You definitely tap into the part of me that wants to experience the rich culture of this world. I’m trying to imagine what it would be like to totally adopt to the cultural norms even to the subconscious level of a foreign country. What a life you lead Edwin :^)

          • Edwin

It might seem that way, but to me it is very ordinary and, at times, tedious. One gets used to anyplace they live. The first year was very exciting. The travel has been great. Day to day life is like anywhere (the grind). It’s been a long time since I was ‘excited’ about living in Korea. I’ve been here long enough to know about all the bumps and warts. (Every place has them.)

Anyone who can go to live somewhere very different for a year should.

    • My experience with WinCo is you get a better company, as a consumer. People at my local WinCo are the happiest, most helpful store employees I have ever seen. It’s a joy for me to shop there, and a loathe shopping.

“Sioux Blockade Succeeds In Halting Construction Of $3.8B Dakota Access Pipeline”

The hiatus, which follows obstruction of the project by three Lakota Sioux tribes and their supporters, will last at least until a federal court in Washington, D.C., hears a challenge by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, which seeks an injunction against federal agencies that approved the pipeline, on Aug. 24.

What Became of the American Left?

For fifteen years, and more if we go back to the Clinton regime’s destruction of Yugoslavia, the US has been engaged in wars on populations in seven—eight counting Yugoslavia/Serbia—countries, causing millions of deaths, disabled, and dislocated peoples. A police state has been created, the US Constitution stripped of its protective features, and massive crimes committed under both US and international law by three administrations. These crimes include torture, transparent false flag events, naked aggression (a war crime), spying without warrants, and murder of US citizens. Yet, the leftwing’s voice is barely heard.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/what-became-of-the-american-left/5541698

    • MsPythia

The voice of the left has been and is, being suppressed.

      • Edwin

And they willingly accept it. See C&L any day this week.

Tribalism is more important to them than policy, ideology, morality or ethics.

          • Edwin

I never followed politics and especially not US politics until bu$hCo. The first thing that struck me once I came online was the tribalism. Anything our team does = good. Anything they do = bad. It has always bothered me. It is illogical and immature.

Proof: US and NATO-backed ‘Rebels’ Are NOT Fighting ISIS

Aside from the standard list of lies which US-led ‘Coalition’ representatives regularly spout regarding their so-called ‘moderate rebels’ (terrorists) in Syria, there is another key lie which is only barely holding Washington and London’s house of cards together – that is the idea that some of these ‘moderate rebels’ (terrorists) are somehow engaged in the grand crusade against ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh (all terms apply
equally to ISIS). For all intents and purposes, this spurious western claim is a lie – one of many lies about Syria constantly being fed to the public by western politicians and media functionaries.

  • Keep yer fingers crossed for your old Unka, folks: Just applied for an office job which is big money, without the big stress and for which a good friend of mine just started working, and is right up my alley and where I’ll get to work from home, until the company has finished moving to town, from Silicon Valley.

And when I say big money, I mean, “buy my retirement land and build out the cabin within a year, while still paying all my bills and running up not debt” big! I’ve got an Interview with the company’s owners on Monday and some good vibes over the weekend can’t hurt!

I actually just read the whole thing. They have laid a trap. All the old threads are closed, EXCEPT the book thread which Neb places a link for in his rant. He wants us to post on those two threads. I wonder if we are all un-banned. (I’m not going to find out.)

I think the silence is killing them. Ha ha ha ha.

          • cathyx

At the same time that Russia is condicting its latest massive military drill on the border with Ukraine, and one day after the latest stark warning by Ukraine’ president Poroshenko that the simmering conflict with Russia may be set to explode again when he said on national TV that “the probability of escalation and conflict remains very significant” adding that “we don’t rule out full-scale Russian invasion”, Russian president Putin made a not so subtle point that Crimea will not be relinquished when he flew into contested territory on Friday, one day after staging war games there, and said he hoped Ukraine would see “common sense” when it came to resolving a diplomatic crisis over the peninsula.

Six Years and Thousands Of Deaths Later, UN Admits It Imported Cholera To Haiti

It is not enough to be the poorest country in the world and to be in the sphere of corruption from the Clinton Foundation after suffering a devastating earthquake in 2010, now the UN has admitted that its peacekeeping troops literally imported cholera bacteria in its efforts to help the nation.

The only problem is those efforts have now cost the country thousands of deaths throughout the last six years.

Hey Tower. Good to see you big fella.

        • towerofbabel

Most everybody has been rounded up. I hope you’re doing well.

          • TaIeisin

Up and down. Pain has been worse than usual.
Been out bush for a little bit. It’s good for the soul.

    • RTIII

the ultra-rich are a disgusting lot.

      • TaIeisin

They lack a basic respect for other living creatures that even animals have. And they are in charge of the planet. No surprise we are in a mess.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          They’re parasites.

          • TaIeisin

And they are our masters. T’was ever so.
We will never be a civilized race while we let these parasites
            be in charge.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Well you guys exported Ruppert Murdoch, just saying 😛

      • TaIeisin

We have imported a lot of pests. Cane toads, lantana, rabbits.
It’s only fair we share back. 😉

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

So self centered, always trying to make it about yourselves 😉

          • TaIeisin

            Trying to?

          • The_Fixer

I wonder if life in Australia is anything like this?

            lol

I love the way they fixed the toilet at the embassy.

          • The_Fixer

Such elaborate machinery to make water swirl in a particular direction 🙂

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

So American, brings a tear to my eye, for multiple reasons.

          • The_Fixer

            Got that right.

          • TaIeisin

It’s nothing like that. No one here drinks Foster’s Beer.
I doubt a prime minister has ever drank it.
It’s rubbish. That’s why we export it.

          • The_Fixer

I figured it was something like that 🙂

          • TaIeisin

I remember when that happened here. So sad. 🙁

          • Nancy

            hahahaha. Winnipeg Drumming band.
            this is hilarious.

      …and ducking terrorist gunfire.

      • TaIeisin

        And ducking people from BLM.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

She probably kicked the guard a few times.

    • TaIeisin

Honestly, I have been avoiding Hitlery.
Some people love watching plane crashes. I’m the kind that can’t watch.

    • Have a goodnight 17:^)

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Sleep well.

    • smkngman3

      Later 17!

  • TaIeisin

Here’s a few pics from out bush. Discus has decided to turn a few of them on their side.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Hi Tale.

Nah, that’s just because you’re in Australia 😉 Pics are showing fine for me actually.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        My toad 🙂

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          Hiya, how are you doing?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Much better today.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Glad to hear that <3

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3

          • I haven’t seen much of you today Spiffy. how did your day go.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Okay. I was just writing some stories ^^.

          • Are you going to write any here, like smott?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Oh my stories are fanfictions. Lol they are much too long to post here XD. But if you are really curious, maybe I can show you sometime.

          • I would love to see your work Spiffy.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Ah coolness. Have you seen the anime Naruto. ^^ (cause that’s the fandom my stories take place in. You don’t have to know the show to read them, but obviously it’d be less confusing that way.)

          • I haven’t seen that particular one. But I have one son who likes anime he could bring me up to speed quick enough. He may even have a DVD of it.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Naruto is MASSIVE. Tons of movies and hundreds of episodes. But wikia and google images would probably be faster XD.

I could leave the link to my profile here and edit it out once you save it or I could give you a link to Chatzy, where I can give you the link.

I just don’t wanna link my profile out here. I know that we have some evil lurkers here and don’t want them to get it. You know what I mean? (*cough cough* Hillbots.)

          • I’m not sure how to get back to Chatzy.

Post here and I’ll bookmark it quickly so you can take it off.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            🙂

          • Got it

          • SpiffyTheValiant

The top part is my profile.

Towards the bottom you will see three categories. My stories or author’s stories (meaning I wrote them), favorite stories (stories I favorited either because I liked them or to be nice to a friend), and favorite authors (pretty obvious what that one means.)

The only one that I recommend you DON’T read is The Sweetest Sin. That one is very complicated if you haven’t seen the show and very out there. It was a request.

In the descriptions, you will see a summary, how many words/chapters, the rating (all mine are rated M for Mature), list of main characters (if two names are in brackets by each other, that means those people are a romantic pairing in taht story), how many reviews it has, favorites, and follows. And some will say complete which means the story is finish.

I will give you some fanfic lingo, if you want.

          • Thanks for the walk through:^) reading your work will be my pleasure <3

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 thanks. you want the chatzy link :)?

          • Yeah

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            🙂

          • I got that one too.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Cool. See you there? I’m the one with the green screen name.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Fanfic lingo.

Lime/Lemons: Means an intimate scene between characters. I always put warnings before and after those, so you can skip those scenes easily if you prefer a more innocent tone.

Yaoi: Means there is at least one male x male romantic pairing involved.

I’d say about half of my stories are straight and half yaoi. So obviously you should skip the yaoi ones, if you prefer just to read hetero pairings 🙂 My yaoi ones are usually clearly marked as such on the first chapter in author’s note.

          • Appreciate the FYI :^)

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Anytime.

Those were some general terms. For Naruto fanfics, if you haven’t seen the show, you’ll probably want to know these.

Academy Student: Someone studying to be a ninja at an academy.

Genin: low level ninja. Usually young.

            Chunin: medium level ninja.

            Jonin: Badass ninja.

            Hokage: Leader of Leaf Village.

            Kazekage: Leader of Sand Village.

Kage: Ending of title for any ninja who leads a ninja village.

            Chakra: Magic.

            Jutsu: Spell.

Kunai: a type of weapon, that is common used by ninjas. Can also be used for dirty jokes :))

Sharingan: Bloodline trait where a ninja from the Uchiha Clan’s eyes turn red and gives them enhanced abilities.

Byakugan: Bloodline trait from the Hyuga Clan. Eyes give them different abilities.

Hmm… those should be the main ones.

          • Sounds interesting. I’m excited about reading this:^)

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Thanks 🙂

You don’t have to register to leave reviews. You can leave up to one review per chapter. You can review as a guest. If you do that, maybe you could sign your reviews as Stephanie at the bottom, so I know it’s from you and not someone else XD Up to you though.

If you do sign up for the site though. You can post your own stories or favorite/follow the ones you like. You would get an email alert when your favorite author, stories, or stories you followed update.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Yay!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I have a new one I started just today 🙂

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I’ll read them I’ll read them. Almost done with my book, so I’ll just load them up on my iPad and read them on the way to/from work.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

<3 lol no pressure. there are a lot of them and they'll be there.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            I know, but I am reading 🙂

          • SpiffyTheValiant

      • Hi Daniel:^) hope your day went well.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Meh. Too many frustrations at work today. I’ll see what my supervisor wants to do on Monday when he gets back.

          It’s Friday. How about yourself?

          • Well now I feel bad. I had a very relaxing day just light work :^)

what a beautiful spot! the sand colour is very interesting…I don’t think I’ve ever seen that tower.

Taconite ore forms the black gravel/sand. It really beautiful up here not so far from Canada.

          • Nancy

no kidding-that’s critical to one’s well being

      • TaIeisin

What an awesome rock. If I were there, I would want to build a cubby house on it.

        • towerofbabel

Me too but you can’t just up and do that.

          • TaIeisin

Damn national parks. They just can’t let people have a good time.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Glad to hear. I never plan anything, just live precariously through other people 🙂

          • Nancy

            and vicariously too?
that’s often the best fun I’ve had, much less wear and tear on a person!

            it’s good.

It isn’t mine. My brain is way to lazy for this kind of exercise.

        same.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          Really simple algorithm actually 🙂

            LOL

I so wanted to hear Hillary lie while under oath.

“Judge orders Clinton to answer email questions in writing”

    S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan turned that request aside, however, ruling “less burdensome” efforts were required.

“Judicial Watch’s argument that a deposition is preferable in this case because of the ability to ask follow-up questions is not persuasive,” Sullivan wrote.

        • Hi kreskin:)

          • kreskin

          • Good thanks. How about you.

          • kreskin

            Too hot , 95 F / 35 C . Not used to those temps here .

          • Yeah that’s hot, how long is it expected to hang around?

          • kreskin

another day or two , we’re just north of Seattle

          • I love Washington State it is absolutely beautiful.

Glad to hear you only have to hang on for a couple more days.

          • kreskin

I like it , been here all of my life. Wife is from Ulyanovsk , Russia , loves it here .

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Weird, said 91 for the high on thermometer.

          • kreskin

Varies quite a bit … depending on where you are . National weather service is reporting 91 degrees right now … downtown .

“Pesky Humans! Uber Introduces ‘Robo Taxis’ to Cut Labor Costs”

Uber Technologies Inc., the flagship Silicon Valley ride-hailing firm known for “disrupting” and displacing the personal transportation industry – leading to lawsuits, protests, and even riots by cab-drivers – is positioning itself to take on the entire concept of human employment as it plans to introduce a fleet of automated self-driving cars in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In a revelation that shows how the National Security Agency was able to systematically spy on many Cisco Systems customers for the better part of a decade, researchers have uncovered an attack that remotely extracts decryption keys from the company’s now-decommissioned line of PIX firewalls.

The discovery is significant because the attack code, dubbed BenignCertain, worked on PIX versions Cisco released in 2002 and supported through 2009. Even after Cisco stopped providing PIX bug fixes in July 2009, the company continued offering limited service and support for the product for an additional four years. Unless PIX customers took special precautions, virtually all of them were vulnerable to attacks that surreptitiously eavesdropped on their VPN traffic. Beyond allowing attackers to snoop on encrypted VPN traffic, the key extraction also makes it possible to gain full access to a vulnerable network by posing as a remote user.

    • Creepy.

isn’t it…in the picture as well as in the reality.
she scares the hell out of me.

        • In every conceivable way.

        • TaIeisin

Wait until she declares her first war.
Then you will really be afraid.

          • Nancy

I am so sick of these assholes feeding their egos, their pockets and their delusions, with people that are meaningless to them. seriously, they need to fuck off.

          • MsPythia

The sad thing is, the only way to make them fuck off is if we make them fuck off.

This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be
both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes
nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just
what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact
measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and
these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows,
or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of
            those whom they oppress.

Iran, Russia, China or perhaps Venezuela?

            Small countries don’t count.

          • TaIeisin

I suspect destroying the ME is one part of a bigger plan at world domination. Israel is not happy with Iran. That whole ‘Babylon the whore’ thing in the bible must have something to do with their hatred.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Russia.

          • Nancy

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Cause apparently facts are not facts, if they come from Russia.

China has constructed a vanguard “pier for warships” on an islet off the port city of Wenzhou, Japanese media warned, calling the development a boost of Beijing’s claims on the Tokyo-administered Senkaku (Diaoyu) Islands and disputed waters around them.

The new 80-meter-long installation, already dubbed the “pier for warships” by the Japanese media, was allegedly erected on Nanji Island, one of 52 islands in the Nanji chain that are part of China’s Zhejiang Province, Kyodo news reports.

Same thing happened in Northern Minnesota some years ago , GMO corn killed off the Monarch Butterly . Was pulled off the market from what I understand . I saw it , was double the height and density of a normal corn field .

      • TaIeisin

Dang. But it’s safe for humans, right?
I mean, no corporation would ever want to harm people.

        • kreskin

This was on my relatives dairy farm , they grow corn for silage / winter feed . Cows eat the corn , humans drink their milk and eat the ice cream .

Might explain goobers , baggers and Clinton supporters . Maybe I’m on to something ?

        • smkngman3

I posted an article the other day saying GMOs are necessary for poor people because they can’t afford REAL food.

          • TaIeisin

GMOs were first talked about as feeding the world’s poor,
by creating abundance. But I am skeptical of their sincerity.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

You’ve got the right priorities 😉

        • MsPythia

I don’t care about their profits! I care about the bees. I’ve seen them myself — weaker and struggling where I live. We need the bees to eat. These companies are murdering not only the bees, they’re murdering all of us.

          • TaIeisin

Luckily we don’t have that problem in Australia yet.

But there it is expected at some point the problem will reach the mainland. Tasmania has been exporting bees to the US.
California is a good market. The bees only last one season and they have to be replaced.

I don’t know why this isn’t considered a global catastrophe.
If ever we needed an excuse to change, this would be it.

The terrifyingly ominous phrase “Arctic death spiral” refers to a chart that measures the continual melt laying waste to the ice in the Arctic Circle over the last 30 years. Climate scientists have issued repeated warnings that the Arctic death spiral is the Earth’s “canary in a coalmine,” and that greenhouse gas emissions must be curbed in order to fend off certain destruction. As time passes and global temperatures continue to rise, many conservationists are arguing that the point of no return is just ahead. In an op-ed for the Guardian, environment editor John Vidal discusses the new book by Peter Wadhams, the Cambridge professor who has devoted his life to the study of icy environs, and why it’s time to start listening to the warnings.

Traffic problems are becoming more acute across the globe as a result of increasing urbanisation, particularly in “megacities” – urban centres with upwards of ten million inhabitants. A good illustration is the Brazilian metropolis Sao Paulo, which set a new record in 2014: on the roads around the city, the rush-hour traffic stretched out for 344 kilometres. According to a study, these huge back-ups in Sao Paulo cost the Brazilian economy at least 31 billion USD a year; another study found that Londoners lose the equivalent of 35 working days per year idling in traffic. The situation is even worse in cities such as Mumbai, Manila, or Tokyo.

In response, Airbus Group experts are looking skywards to develop radical concepts that will relieve urban congestion. Participating in these efforts is A3, the company’s innovation outpost located in the gridlocked Valley. A3 project executive Rodin Lyasoff and his team are actively pursuing a project coined Vahana, an autonomous flying vehicle platform for individual passenger and cargo transport.

‘Unprecedented’: Deadly parasite kills thousands of fish, prompts Yellowstone river closure”

Officials from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) say the 183-mile stretch of the Yellowstone River would not reopen until fish stop dying. As of Friday morning, up to 4,000 fish have been counted, but a real number is believed to be in the tens of thousands. The fish kill has extended for nearly 100 miles, the FWP said.

What the fuck would we need 6.5 TRILLION for.

“Pentagon can’t account for $6.5 trillion of taxpayer money – IG report”

The IG has also found that 16,513 of 1.3 million records were “removed” from the Pentagon’s budget system during the third quarter of the 2015 fiscal year.

“Without support for why these records were removed, we could not determine whether the records continued valid transactions,” the IG said, adding that the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Indianapolis (DFAS Indianapolis) could not explain why the files were removed.

At the same time, data that Army General Funds (AGF) cited in its financial reports in both the third quarter and yearend “were unreliable and lacked an adequate audit trail,” which are necessary to confirm “accuracy, completeness and timeliness” of transactions, the Department of Defense Inspector General found.

Nations around the world would lift the US onto it’s shoulders and great wonders would be created.

  • SmotPoker

Well fuck. First off, I’m in no danger at all. I want to be clear on that. I’m good. Seriously. I’m good, I give you my solemn promise, and word on that.

Woke up this morning at 3 am, and the first thought in my head was that it was a great day to die, my kid was grown, she doesn’t need me for support, that I was tired of the bullshit, and it wouldn’t matter one way or the other anyway. I get like this every few months it seems where I want nothing more than to simply just disappear off the face of the Earth. I end up becoming a recluse for a while, then slowly find my way back into the world. My fur babies need me so I can’t leave them to the whims of the world. At times I think they are the only things that keep me going.

I’m not looking forward to caring for my kid brother the rest of our lives at all. He’s my brother, and I love him, but I don’t like him. I would never choose him as a friend as he’s a delusional blowhard much like Trump, but without the alleged money. It was depressing to realize that he wants to come live with me in a year after he’s used to being paralyzed. How do you tell someone that you really don’t want to do that as you know it will drive you up a wall? Can you, without being a monster? The reality of the situation is really starting to sink in for me. Between that, my piece of shit car, and my kid that can’t be bothered to communicate or see her family I must admit I find the future to be rather bleak, and depressing.

I’ve dealt with this shit my whole life, and have gotten good at recognizing when the shit is hitting the fan so to speak, and those that know me understand that when I disappear from their lives for a bit that it’s nothing personal against them, it’s just me withdrawing into a prison of my own making. It’s weird how it will hit me though. You folks have seen me laugh, and make jokes even as the world was shitting on me, yet with a flip of the switch something in me was ready to leave it all behind.

    Weird.

I repeat that I’m in no danger at all, I have no intention on doing something to harm myself. I just find it odd that I find myself caught up in these episodes of not giving a fuck one way or the other. I’m just glad that I’ve learned to recognize it over the years before it gets out of hand. A nice month long Thorazine drip sounds awesome right about now….

Just putting the feeling in words helps to bring it down about three notches too. Thanks for the forum in which to express myself.

    • Ann Watson

      Dear Smot,
Easy to say, hard to do, just say no, look after you.
No-one has the right to impose on you, people do because they know they can and that in itself is the reason to refuse. Anyone who cares for you would consider your feelings first, if they don’t why should you feel obliged?
Your life is your own to live, you can’t live it for someone else, whatever you say and do, be kind but resolute.

      • SmotPoker

Yeah, one just motors forward. I was always raised that you do just about anything for blood if they are in the right, I’ve been watching out for him since he was born for the most part. I’ll do my part, hell he may change his mind before that even happens.

He’s not a monster, he has a heart of gold, but a personality, that at least to me, is repulsive. It’s no secret between us, and he simply shrugs off the critics within the family as being jealous or some shit. The delusions of grandeur 24/7 gets old fast.

SmotPoker just pawn in game of life….

        Pssst, we all are….

        • Ann Watson

That’s the spirit, teach them all a few things. ; )
          Good luck!

    • Shohanna

I know that feeling darling. All of it actually, including the wanting to end it because the BS is too fucking much. I have always done the same with my brother. But we fought like cats and dogs. The favoritism did it. I knew at a young, young age that I was not wanted. He was, and boy was he spoiled. I got beaten for shit he did! And they saw nothing wrong with that.

I was abused. He wasn’t. But he saw it. Would laugh at me for it. Would do things just to make sure I got beat. How’s that for a “loving” brother?! There was so much animosity between us. The fighting was bloody. Let’s put it that way.

When I turned 18, I was scared to death and my parents did the predictable thing and kicked me out. That’s fine, I scraped by and worked my ass off. They expected me to go to college! O.o When my mother withdrew me from school at 16, that was not going to happen. My Dad NEVER believed me over it. I didn’t quit I had a 4.0gpa!! Why would I quit?

So many things happened I can’t put them all here. It’s too long. When my brother killed himself in 2011, I was the one selected to take care of his son. My Nephew. Who is a motherfucking SPLIT image of my brother. It gives me fucking nightmares when I look at him. He is that close of a duplicate!! I STOPPED the abuse cycle with my daughters. I wasn’t about to continue it with my nephew. I had so much stress. I am disabled as in I can’t walk far. I CAN but it hurts so bad it leads me to falling down. I can’t LIFT things at all. It feels like my heart will fall through and it just impossible to breath while carrying something over a certain weight. I can’t stand for long either. Same thing.

So I am like WTF how am I suppose to take care of a 9 yr old?! I cried. I really did. I was SO afraid I was going to hurt him. I told my Dad I couldn’t do it. He threatened to throw me out over it. He said you aren’t my daughter if you don’t take care of your nephew. I was like NO ONE ASKED ME!! NO one wanted to care about MY ISSUES!!

But there is 1 difference between my parents and ME. I know my responsibility and my nephew loves me. I am the only one in this godforsaken family who never beat the shit out of him. He was in foster care for a fucking year b/c of his parents beating him senseless. He is the sweetest, little boy you will ever meet. He is nothing like my brother and he absolutely HATES the comparison. I don’t blame him.

He had to have counseling and therapy. A lot of it. He will always be my ward. My daughter and I came up with an “acceptable” arrangement. He legally lives with me. However he spends a lot of time with her. He goes to school in IN b/c we can’t find one here to meet his needs. (long story). But we DEAL with it. He comes and spends the night with me, his grandparents and we shuffle him around to keep him occupied and everyone’s patience on a low key level.

I know exactly how you feel and I can help if you want. I am here for you Smot. *hug*

      • SmotPoker

A troubling story, and eerily similar to my own as far as being disabled, and some early life abuse by stepfather.

We all do what we must to carry on each day. It does no good to seek shelter, as I’ve found life to be pretty much just one big storm. My battle cry is “Next!” as there is always something.

I think the responsibility scares me a little bit as well, since being paralyzed from the chest down brings along a ton of other health issues that can be deadly if not addressed. One of my mothers last words to me was “to take care of your brothers, and father”, so I also kind of have those words rattling around in my skull.

Thanks for sharing your story with us all. Helps me to put things in perspective. We all have our battles in life, we all have our challenges.

        • Shohanna

Yes we do. It’s been 5 yrs now and I can say I have not hurt my nephew. Though there have been times I wanted to!! I am human. He is 14 and will be 15 on the 28th and he is testing every single person’s patience in this family. I suppose it’s back to counseling with him. But I am not sure. It could be teenaged angst but I am not sure.

The thing that helped me, the most? Remembering how his own parents rejected him. Remembering that he was broken and beaten just like me. Remembering that he spent nearly 2 yrs in foster care. That his MOTHER is alive and kicking and wants NOTHING to do with him. THAT more then anything else has pushed me to persevere. AND relying on my daughter, bless her heart. She loves that kid. She has done me so much good karma.

You need to make sure you avail yourself of ALL of the public works. TANF it’s a bureaucratic hell to get it. But it pays people to take care of their family. You will need it as expenses will pile up. I qualified for it for 2 yrs and that 100+ extra for groceries, gas, etc. Means a hell of a lot.

Then you need to get in touch with Social Security if you haven’t already and get his disability going so he will have other income from that. (AND it will take at least 2 YRS to get that.) BEWARE and avoid the pitfalls. Talk to an SS lawyer for FREE, they will not charge you until you get your settlement.

Then you need to take an assess of ALL of his debt. Make sure they are aware of his disability and that you need some agreement with them while you wait for SSDI.

THEN you need to make sure you have a lawyer on hand to take care of delicate situations should your brother pass away. YOU need POA (Power of Attorney) to take care of any and all issues that have to do with your brother. He could give it to you (the easiest way) but it’s complicated if he is of “mind”. He could fight it. Which he shouldn’t b/c he isn’t going to be able to do things he use to do and it’s a conundrum for those newly disabled. POA makes it EASIER to get SSDI and TANF and other family benefits.

Make sure you look up Food Stamps, and Heath and Family services, you WILL need to take him to counseling and possibly therapy. (And yourself) to help deal with this new loss of freedom and new responsibilities. It should be paid for by either the state or federal b/c of his disability.

Those are the starting basics of taking care of family and being responsible. Yes, you are in another state. But TANF and SS are federal entities and federal programs. Doesn’t matter what state you are in. You will qualify for both. You could also get federal funding for either housing, (if you live in a 1 bdrm) or a full home, to adjust your home to his needs. So make sure to ask about that when you sign up for TANF. Also a car to transport him, wheel chairs, beds, bathroom needs, and other medical devices should also be covered by a federal program. Want to email me? lol

He’ll have the best care, and all his needs paid for through Workmans Comp. He could have nurses coming over a couple of times a day if needed. We’ve already started him down the road to SSD as well.

            So far so good….

          • Shohanna

Kewl, I just wanted to give you a heads up. I had no clue about any of this and had to learn about it the hard way. I nearly got arrested b/c of the time it took me to get things done!! No one talked to me, no one told me I had to do certain things and b/c of that I was charged with neglect. O.O

It pissed me off so bad I called my lawyer and she jumped all over their asses for that crap. hahah I LOVE my lawyer if you hadn’t guessed. She is STILL on retainer after 20 yrs. Why? B/c she is that good and if she can’t do it, she knows someone who can.

It’s a heavy burden and any way I can help lift it. I will.

At least Hillary keeps her contempt for humanity behind closed doors.

      • notisaidthepig

Some might argue that. When she said Latino kids had to be sent back to teach them a lesson….well, you might argue that’s unveiled contempt right there. I’m just saying!

Fucking dejavu. Say goodby to 8 years of a commenting community – and hello to the anticipated wasteland of Facebook over on NPR. Did they bring in Tim McDonald to do the dirty work ?

After much experimentation and discussion, we’ve concluded that the comment sections on NPR.org stories are not providing a useful experience for the vast majority of our users. In order to prioritize and strengthen other ways of building community and engagement with our audience, we will discontinue story-page comments on NPR.org on August 23.

And, UGH, I hate how people justify Hillary saying she’ll obliterate Iran because she’d be the first C-in-C and has to appear tough. Not only is it HIGHLY SEXIST it’s plain FUCKING STUPID and dangerous. “it’s a power move.” Ugh. Effing a-holes. Blind sheep.

Shouldn’t we be able to tell? It’s sad. And David Corn is right when he says that $hillary wants to seem tough so it makes “sense” that she stated she wasnt to “obliterate” Iran. But wait. Stein doesn’t talk that way . And she seems like she would be tough.

12yo girl under fire over ‘disgusting’ hunting pictures posed with dead zebra, giraffe (PHOTOS)

Unlike most 12-year-old girls, Aryanna Gourdin has logged a series of big game kills, many of which she has apparently carried out using her trusty bow with pink arrows. The young markswoman has even traveled to Africa with her father Eli Gourdin, also an avid hunter, to pursue the interest.

“It’s something that I cherish and I enjoy. I want other people to see what I have been able to experience,” she told ABC News.

I had no idea Giraffes were overpopulation and needed to be brought back in check.

        • towerofbabel

I can’t bear to look at those pictures. They deserve the blowback. Hateful people.

    • notisaidthepig

There was certainly no shortage of giraffes near where I lived in
Tanzania. Lots and lots of zebras too. Not sure how I feel about this.

      • cathyx

Not sure if ‘no shortage of giraffes’ means that their numbers are sufficiently high to hunt. I’m sure their grazing lands have diminished and they are being forced to graze in smaller areas.

        • notisaidthepig

I wouldn’t know but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that you are right. I lived in Moshi and with the UN tribunal in Arusha that area really exploded. The booming population certainly affected the wildlife.

      • towerofbabel

When I was there, way back, you didn’t even have to go to the parks to see them. They were everywhere, like squirrels, sort of. Still, why kill them?

    https://www.thenation.com/article/jill-stein-should-be-part-of-a-4-way-presidential-debate/

    • notisaidthepig

I wonder…… If Johnson makes the 15% threshold, what will happen? The conventional wisdom is that he pulls votes from Trump. Will the Republican establishment allow him to participate because they really want $hillary to win? Will Republicans push to allow Stein in because she pulls support from $hillary?

I can’t imagine that they will let Stein into the debates. Yes, there are rules. And let’s remember that they were “flexible” during the primary contests. But now? Alas, methinks not.

      • MsPythia

I’ll bet you that Stein has already made the 15% threshold, but they just lie about it. The 1% doesn’t want any progressive voices on the debate stage after Bernie.

  • Nancy

    enough!

    • MsPythia

          • Shohanna

Yeah it started raining and it was muggy. Air is back on, door is closed. /sigh I love the smell but I can’t breathe.

            Bacon!!!!

            :))

          • notisaidthepig

Actually, there’s something that can get me to move: I’ve got little food in the house. Need to get supplies. Let’s start with bacon and eggs….

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lol

          • MsPythia

I’m having a large dinner party at my house tonight (8 people plus my husband and I), so I can’t stay long. Tons of food to buy, and food to prepare for cooking this evening. Sometimes I wonder why I do this to myself, but they’re very good friends coming, so I do.

          • Nancy

because it’s so much fun to do?
            sounds like a wonderful time!

          • MsPythia

            Well, they’ll have a wonderful time — I’ll be cooking. 😉

          • Nancy

            lol…building up karma?

          • MsPythia

LOL – I guess! If my kitchen were easier to cook in, it would be more fun. We’re planning a remodel soon because of that fact. As it is, my limited counter space makes getting a meal for 10 people together a real balancing act!

          • Nancy

those restrictions are no fun…how cool to get a new kitchen!

          • MsPythia

It’s been pushed off for a long time. That’s how it is when you’re in our business. As the old saying goes, the carpenters wife is the last one to get her shelves! 🙂

          • Nancy

but the upside is that you will get exactly what you want and it will be done to your standards!
nice…pics would be great. that is my idea of porn!

          • MsPythia

            Okay, I will! 😀

You’d cry if you saw what I call a kitchen in Korea.

          • notisaidthepig

Green Party candidate Jill Stein calls for climate state of emergency

    • notisaidthepig

Wow. They couldn’t help themselves. Right at the very end of this article, they bring up the anti-vaxx “concerns.” What shills!

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        It’s apparently all they “have.”

        • notisaidthepig

The article had nothing to do with that bogus issue. And there’s no context about when she was concerned (back when they contained mercury which now they don’t). It’s frustrating!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

nevermind she addressed it on cnn…

          • notisaidthepig

Yeah but lots of people might not have seen that. The smears are all they have against her. As usual, they can’t attack her positions because it makes THEM look bad.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

people posting article should be aware of that shit.

          • notisaidthepig

Sadly, it seems a lot of CTR folks are part of the comments at the guardian. Like locusts, they are everywhere. A paycheck will do that.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • MsPythia

And where there’s no paycheck, the viciousness of the mob mentality works too!

          • Edwin

And half of them have joined in to do it for free because they are morons. (see C&L comments)

          • towerofbabel

Do you think there are foremen or enforcers that make sure their comments a are suitably snaky and misleading? I wonder how they get their marching orders?

          • notisaidthepig

There’s probably an early morning email with the day’s marching orders, i would think. Then again, what the hell do I know?

          • Shohanna

They did that with Bernie too, and it did not help.

          • MsPythia

And she did it well! Good morning Spiffy and Piggie!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

          • notisaidthepig

            Hi, there, MsP!

          • RTIII

            Morning Ms P!

          • MsPythia

Good morning RT! Nice to see you! You’ve been busy lately!

          • RTIII

Yep, and will be again today!

I’ve made a vow to kick ass on getting my own projects finished. . . I have let myself for literally a decade and more have my time be focused on other people’s needs while my own go ignored. So now I’m making a concerted effort to work on my own things at least as much, so long as the bills are paid. 🙂

          • MsPythia

I’m impressed with what you’ve been showing us! 😀

          • RTIII

            Thanks!

My latest project for myself that I’m focusing on is this most awesome 1958 Karmann Ghia cabriolet. ’58 is the first year for that car. They’re really beautiful. This one has been put on hold for, oh, about 21 or 22 years! ENOUGH! … Well, to be fair, I have been collecting parts for it all this time… And, some 20+ years ago, I did the preparations work on the chassis and got it painted.

Lately, I’ve mounted up a brand new front axle beam and am fitting the various suspension parts on it. I’ve got it ALMOST ready for the front wheel hubs. In the back, I’ve built up a very specially done transaxle (combination transmission and rear axle). It has a mix of years, but is all stock. The parts mixing gives me the gear ratios I want and other engineering features that VW never did themselves all in one unit.. LAST NIGHT I mounted up the rear axles to it and am fitting 4 wheel disk brakes from a very early Porsche! 🙂

TODAY, I’m going to bolt the transaxle into the chassis. After that point, it will be capable of supporting wheels in the back! Hope to be at the same point with the front of the car today or tomorrow, too!

          • MsPythia

Wow! That sounds like a lot of work, but I bet it’s going to be so amazing when it’s done!

          • RTIII

Yes, thanks. … It’s not that much work. The real work is not in the assembly, it’s in finding all the correct pieces and reworking them into like-new condition so they’re ready to be installed. . . The actual installation isn’t that bad! …especially if you know what to do / how to do it, and have the space and the correct tools… Which I do, of course! 🙂

          • MsPythia

It sounds like a puzzle, AND a work of Art.

          • RTIII

            It is!

…First Saturday in September I’ll be hosting an open-house in the afternoon, if you want to come by. The local Porsche 356 club, the California Alto Region (“356 CAR!” 😉 ) is making a day of it. We start for breakfast at Mimi’s Cafe in San Mateo, then go to famous collector Jim Barrington’s place to see his collection in Oakland, then lunch at Quins Lighthouse on the Alameda Estuary, then to my workshop to wind down the day. 🙂 … You’re welcome to join us at any point!

          • MsPythia

I love Quinn’s Lighthouse! I’ll mark the date and let you know! It would be great to meet you!

          • towerofbabel

I know how rewarding it is. I restored a 1965 R/500 BMW and a 1968 BSA. Can’t find the time anymore, but those are good memories.

          • RTIII

Thanks, tower, here’s one that I’m just finishing up… Haven’t put much effort into it since April, but I have some original interior pieces to clean, dye to match, and install.

          • RTIII
          • towerofbabel

Here is an interesting study about cannabis, and the pain relieving effects it has between men, and women. As we all should know, women have been shown to have a higher tolerance for pain than men. Yep, believe it, we’re pussies compared to the women when it comes to dealing with pain. Not surprising since they are built for child birth, I would easily believe that their pain mechanisms, and triggers are different than a males.

Cannabis is here to even up the score on that regard with a recent study showing that men benefit more pain relief or are more desensitized to pain than women after using cannabis. It’s about time something was done to level the playing field for us men against women….(I’m kidding ladies, put your claws away)

“…we’re pussies compared to the women when it comes to dealing with pain.”
lmao, the irony that you used the word “pussies” to describe men, for being less tolerant of pain than a woman.
      morning Smot!

        Lol! Good Morning Nancy!

Documentary …………..(I found a new doc site I’ve been going through)

“The Mask You Live In”… unpacks how this culture’s narrow and
harmful definition of masculinity effects boys, young men; girls and
women; and society in general in myriad ways, as our children struggle
to stay true to themselves when confronted by this culture. Pressured by
their peer group, heavily influenced by a barrage of media messages,
and even their very own parents and other adults in their lives, our
protagonists confront messages encouraging them to disconnect from and
suppress their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and
degrade women, and resolve conflicts through violence, control and
manipulation. These traits and stereotypes closely interconnect with
problems of race, class, and circumstance, creating a maze of identity
issues boys and young men must navigate to become “real” men as the
culture expects and perpetuates. Experts in neuroscience, psychology,
sociology, sports, education, and media also weigh in, offering
empirical evidence of how these issues intersect, and what we can do
        about it.

…There’s so much variability between humans that, so far, there have been no studies showing any gender difference that’s outside of that variability. That is, these differences only show modest differences in the statistical mean and tell you exactly nothing about the comparative traits of any to specific people.

-_- Thom Hartman has a lot of nerve calling it Brunch with Bernie, after shilling for Hillary.

    • MsPythia

He has disgusted me SO much lately!

      • SpiffyTheValiant

I believe he is a good man, but man did he swallow the fear.

        • towerofbabel

I no longer believe he is a good man. He is a vanity progressive who has abandoned his principles and sold out. Apparently there is money to be made. Sorry to be so harsh but he has done a lot of damage and his hands are not clean.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            I can understand that perspective.

          • towerofbabel

It matters a lot that progressives and environmentalists hold their ground, now more than ever. Thom sold out for a few pieces of silver.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yeah ;/

          • towerofbabel

And I used to listen to him nearly every day. :- (

          • MsPythia

Same here. It’s horrible to see Thom of all people sink so low.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I like David Sirota’s work. I have one of his books, Hostile Takeover. It’s a good read and very enlightening.

This is good work, too. Of particular interest is that these are under-performing banks doing the lending. And we wonder why we can’t have nice things….
