In this episode of the classic cartoon “Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales,” T.T. & Chumley are determined to create a rocket to disprove the bragging claims of Tennessee’s arch rival, Jerboa Jump. Despite their best efforts, they, of course, have to escape the zoo, to seek the advice of
Mr. Whoopee and his 3D BB.

Featuring the voices of the iconic Don Adams, Bradley Bolke and F-Troop’s Larry Storch, as Phineas J. Whoopee, The Man With All The Answers.

Welcome to your Sunday open thread. What cartoons, other than the obvious Looney Tunes, were favorites of yours, growing up?

There is a music thread for such things started by some number dude.

      • LOL

      • 17

You just can’t help but piss in people’s cornflakes, can you?

        • cathyx

          No, just yours.

    • There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
      As the maples scream ‘oppression!’
And the oaks, just shake their heads

(Yes, I know that’s from Hemispheres)

      • 17

Just realized…one of those troubles in the forest is my dyslexia.

  • cathyx

Good morning everyone. Rise and shine.

  • Continuing from the previous thread, and the music-jacking of this one… 😉 😛

Good morning. I must say i’m surprised at the MSM coverage she’s getting.

      • s k

Yeah, it’s good to see her on Sunday morning.

    • I have to wait until there’s a YouTube version, as I don’t have flash installed (it’s a security risk).

      • s k

I checked youtube it’s not posted yet.

  • But, to get to the question in today’s post. Probably my favorite non-Looney Tunes cartoon, which Didn’t air until I was an adult, is ALF: Melmac Memories. Even if you didn’t like the live-action TV Series, you should give this cartoon a try: It’s full of very mature jokes that a kid would not get (Hershel Gordon Lewis references, anyone?) and some of the kind of great humor tht they just never tried in the original TV Show.

    https://youtu.be/bKVmukvgtmI

    • SmotPoker

I loved Alf, but my cats won’t let me watch it.

Speaking of older stuff. i watched a flick today that I’ve seen a 100 times. I know probably about 90% of the dialogue by heart. Great flick too even if it was shot on a shoestring, and prayer budget.

Person #1: My girlfriend sucked 37 dicks!!!!
      Person #2: In a row?

Name that film. Should be an easy one for the Millennials.

      • I could name it, one of my favorite directors.

        • SmotPoker

Mine too. Get a shit ton of flack, but he’s a great writer/director. I like that his films are more dialogue/character based than they are action/explosion based.

          • The_Fixer

I don’t get a chance to watch many movies. This sounds like one I should have watched.

          • SmotPoker

I think so, it’s a great movie, totally underrated. It has some big time actors in it as well. John Goodman plays a great role, as does the head lunatic Michael Parks.

I think a lot of people that saw it were expecting a horror flick, but I find this to me more of a psychological thriller. I think Parks nailed his role to a “T”, a great performance.

I lived for Saturday morning cartoons. I can still remember when JFK;s funeral was on a Saturday morning and there we no cartoons, I was pissed.

      • SmotPoker

Kids today are fucked. I remember anxiously awaiting the new cartoon season, and the new cartoons that would come out when I was a kid.

They don’t even have Saturday morning cartoons on the big three networks anymore, let alone original programming. They don’t know what they are missing out on.

        • cathyx

They have entire cartoon networks devoted to cartoons all day long. WE don’t know what we’re missing.

          • SmotPoker

Speak for yourself, I’m disabled, and spend entirely too much of my time watching cartoons on such networks…. : )

Those cartoons aren’t going to watch themselves, ya know…

          • Shohanna

I spend my time playing addictive video games. (Well, they SAY they are addictive.) I get bored to easy. And even this particular game can’t hold my attention for long.

          • SmotPoker

Dammit Sho, if only we could get past the whole cannabis allergy thing, you’d be my dream girl. I only play one video game (Madden), but I play it twice a day for a total of 4 hrs tops. Any more, and my wrist really starts to hurt. As it stands I use a brace when playing the damn thing. I hate being old.

          • Shohanna

Well, I could come there, or you could come here, and we do an allergy test. It could be that “Dare” program I had to live through in the ’80’s in school. You know that “just say NO!” bullshit. LOL

I don’t have access to that special weed to test my allergy! I have figured I was allergic cause dude the high was um quite hallucinogenic for me. Once I was treated for the allergy. There isn’t any way to sober someone up even if they have an allergic reaction. LOL

And like I said in an earlier comment, I am not sure if it was the pot or whatever it was laced with. Cause there wasn’t any “clean” pot around here in the ’80’s.

I am willing to try if you are!!

          • Shohanna

I play world of warcraft. And SOMETIMES other Bliz titles like Diablo 3, and when my daughter begs me, I play hearthstone with her. Usually in a group. PVP is not my thing. (Player vs. Player) it causes my BP to go up. lol

Madden, xbox NFL? never played it but heard of it.

          • I have watched many of those cartoons: We aren’t missing anything, really. Like the rest of cable-tv, the need for a constant stream of “content” means production quality has suffered severely.

The Climate Crisis Is Already Here — but No One’s Telling Us:http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/37264-the-climate-crisis-is-already-here-but-no-one-s-telling-us

This, on current trends, will be the hottest year ever measured. The previous record was set in 2015; the one before in 2014. Fifteen of the 16 warmest years have occurred in the 21st century. Each of the past 14 months has beaten the global monthly temperature record. But you can still hear people repeating the old claim, first proposed by fossil fuel lobbyists, that global warming stopped in 1998.

Eight months ago in Paris, 177 nations promised to try to ensure the world’s average temperature did not rise by more than 1.5C above the pre-industrial level. Already it has climbed by 1.3C — faster and further than almost anyone predicted. In one respect, the scientists were wrong. They told us to expect a climate crisis in the second half of this century. But it’s already here.

To pretend that newspapers and television channels are neutral arbiters of such matters is to ignore their place at the corrupt heart of the establishment. At the US conventions, to give one small example, the Washington Post, the Atlantic and Politico were paid by the American Petroleum Institute to host a series of discussions, at which climate science deniers were represented. The pen might be mightier than the sword, but the purse is mightier than the pen.

    • You’d almost think TPTB are deliberately making people ignorant in case, in their panic, they decide to overthrow said PTB.

      • s k

Have you seen these BS ads that they run on MSM news shows?

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lidAyPg7zQw

        • Fucking murderous, suicidal pieces of shit. I couldn’t stand 18 seconds of that vile bullshit.

          • s k

That’s who owns our MSM and keeps the sheeple in the dark.

        • Continuously glad I don’t have a commercial TV streaming service, I’d have really terrible blood pressure, if I did.

          • s k

It’s good to see what propaganda is on. Just like all of the MIC ads.

          • Shohanna

That’s my excuse you can’t have it. LOL

      • RTIII

        TPTB?

How the Zapatista Movement Can Offer Solutions to the Neoliberal Threat to Global Food Security:http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/zapatista_movement_solutions_neoliberal_threat_food_security_20160821

One of the biggest threats to food security the world currently faces is neoliberalism. It’s logic, which has become status quo over the past 70 years and valorizes global ‘free market’ capitalism, is made manifest through economic policies that facilitate privatization, deregulation, and cuts to social spending, as well as a discourse that promotes competition, individualism, and self-commodification. Despite rarely being criticized, or even mentioned, by state officials and mainstream media, neoliberal programs and practices continue to give rise to unprecedented levels of poverty, hunger, and suffering. The consequences of neoliberalism are so acutely visceral that the Zapatistas called the 21st century’s most highly lauded free-trade policy, NAFTA, a ‘death certificate’ for Indigenous people.1 This is because economic liberalization meant that imported commodities (e.g., subsidized corn from the U.S.) would flood Mexican markets, devalue the products of peasant farmers, and lead to widespread food insecurity. As a response, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), primarily Indigenous peasants themselves, led an armed insurrection in Chiapas, Mexico on January 1, 1994—the day NAFTA went into effect.

The Zapatistas, primarily Indigenous Ch’ol, Tzeltal, Tzotzil, Tojolobal, Mam, and Zoque rebels, were rising up against 500 years of colonial oppression. For this piece, I draw from my experiences learning from them, not ‘researching’ them. Importantly, I neither speak for the Zapatistas nor do my words do them justice. In a sense, then, this piece is nothing other than a modest ‘suggestion’ that the Zapatistas may offer us some ideas about solutions to the problems of the food systems we find ourselves in.

  • Nancy

    okay…

    • s k

LOL, I just had to turn off Joel Osteen, he comes on after this week George Stephanopoulos

        morning s k.

        • s k

Morning, he is the biggest money grubbing POS on Sunday morning.

          • Nancy

he and his wife are gag-worthy.
the “artificial” just oozes out of them…

          • The_Fixer

Imagine the grease they have to mop up off the altar stage after they are done fleecing the flock.

          • Nancy

            ewww…

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, maybe it’s best to not think about it.

Good morning, Nancy. How ya doin’?

          • Nancy

I am good…putting off a busy day but it will be good to cross off the list
you? still working on your list? looks like you have a big one yourself

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, have to go to work today and finish reconing 7 speakers, and then try and get at least one item on the backlog list fixed and out of there.

On the plus side, I get to open up the warehouse garage doors and let in the cool, drier air. It’s about 16 C with a 77% relative humidity, which is a damn sight better than what we’ve had. Had temps well above 30C with oppressive humidity.

I laugh when they call us “The Frozen Tundra”. Well, at least I laugh during the summer. Winter here is the opposite extreme.

          • Nancy

            what state are you in?
the humidity is a killer. I am in Winnipeg, Manitoba…it’s nuts when you add the humidity in.
I deal with the extremes here too. it’s really interesting to be so hot and then so cold. there is a north wind that brings arctic air right off of Hudson’s Bay. the wind chill is like the humidity when you factor it all in.

          • The_Fixer

I am in Wisconsin. If you followed American Football (and you probably don’t have any reason to, like most sane people) the “Frozen Tundra” bit would have given that away 🙂

We get an interesting combo of hot Southerly and Southwest wind followed by a storm system that brings in cooler Northwest wind coming out of Canada. It’s pretty much the summer pattern here. Sometimes we’ll get a Northeast wind off the bay that is damp and chilly, but that seems to be more of a spring thing.

Winter can be brutal, we basically get a milder version of the weather that hits Alberta and Saskatchewan. Nasty North and Northwest winds. It’s also the opposite in terms of humidity – my skin dries up so bad that it cracks and bleeds. Ugh, I hate winter.

As uncomfortable as summer is at times, I’ll take it over Winter when it can occasionally get to -30C with unspeakable wind chills.

          • Nancy

you know exactly what I am talking about.
            yup-dry, crack and bleed.
            insanity!

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, and it comes too soon.

And I have to go too soon. Or maybe not soon enough 🙂 Off to brunch with my bud, talk to everyone later!

          • Nancy

            enjoy Fix!

          • cathyx

Why do you use Celsius, you traitor?

          • The_Fixer

Because I am talking to a Canadian, and I do that with all of my friends north of the border.

And it’s easy enough to do – I have a thermometer on my desk that is calibrated for both 🙂

          • Shohanna

The dry crackiness has me right now. My house sucks at humidity control and I don’t have the money to fix it. I should buy stock in vaseline.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Good luck and watch out for the ice spiders 😉

          • kreskin

The $ he’s making fleecing his flock … I’d be on cloud nine too .

      • kreskin

Making millions blowing sunshine up peoples derrières. Nothing Biblical about what he ( cough , cough ) preaches. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a45z_HG3WU

        • s k

These TV preachers would fight each other to be first to nail Jesus to the cross, they are the opposite of what he preached.

          • kreskin

Frauds , taking advantage of the most vulnerable , they make me sick . Good thing for them that I’m not Caesar , they’d be in prison.

    • The_Fixer

LOL! Ain’t it the truth, or at least the truth that they want you to believe.

      • Nancy

I see what you did there!
        😉

    • MsPythia

      Good morning Nancy!

      • Nancy

        morning Ms!
how did your dinner party go?

        • MsPythia

It was really nice! My dinner came out good — I served salmon fillets with a lemon-herb vinaigrette that I got off of Martha Stewart’s website. Really easy and good. And that way I got to do fancier side dishes.

          • Nancy

yum…sounds delicious. I like that idea-go a little more elaborate with the sides…great!

          • MsPythia

Yeah, I made slow-roasted broccoli with pumpkin seeds, and homemade mashed potatoes with garlic, and a big green salad. One of my guests brought a pie. Really fun.

          • MsPythia

Oh, I forgot, I also made sauteed baby shiitake mushrooms to serve with the fish.

          • Nancy

did you manage to have some fun too?

          • MsPythia

I did — since the fish only took 10 minutes to cook after I’d done the sides! I was going to do couple of roasted chickens — that would have made the whole thing more work and less fun.

          • Nancy

that’s great to hear-that’s all part of the evening-you having a good time too.

          • MsPythia

Totally agree. I was glad I chose that salmon recipe too. Usually I try out recipes before I make them for guests, but this one sounded yummy and was so straightforward I just went with it.

          • Nancy

sounds like it was one of those “no-fail” ones that I love to make!

          • MsPythia

Here’s the link. I made the “make it faster” version — and I used a combination of flat leaf parsley and chives for the herb part and I also added one whole garlic clove to it.

            http://www.marthastewart.com/270242/essential-recipe-no-3-roasted-salmon

          • Nancy

            nice-thanks! it’s very simple!

          • MsPythia

Yup — and tasty. It’s weird though, when you taste the sauce straight, it seems a bit sharp, but with the fattiness of the fish it worked perfect.

          • RTIII

I like doing that. I have a few signature deserts I can surprise my hosts with! 🙂

          • MsPythia

🙂 You sound like an amazing cook RT!

          • RTIII

Thanks, MsP…. I had the good fortune to grow up in New Orleans, so I learned how to eat! That is the FIRST prerequisite to being a great chef – knowing what it’s supposed to be like! 🙂

…How does Bananas Foster sound? Or maybe I could do my most amazing Pecan pie? Serve warm with a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream.

          • MsPythia

            Drool! Sounds amazing!

          • cathyx

Martha Stewart has never failed me. Never.

          • MsPythia

            I know — her recipes always work. That’s why she’s Martha, I guess! 🙂

  • s k

    LOL, the hackers get hacked!

THE NSA LEAK IS REAL, SNOWDEN DOCUMENTS CONFIRM:https://theintercept.com/2016/08/19/the-nsa-was-hacked-snowden-documents-confirm/

The danger of these exploits is that they can be used to target anyone who is using a vulnerable router. This is the equivalent of leaving lockpicking tools lying around a high school cafeteria. It’s worse, in fact, because many of these exploits are not available through any other means, so they’re just now coming to the attention of the firewall and router manufacturers that need to fix them, as well as the customers that are vulnerable.

So the risk is twofold: first, that the person or persons who stole this information might have used them against us. If this is indeed Russia, then one assumes that they probably have their own exploits, but there’s no need to give them any more. And now that the exploits have been released, we run the risk that ordinary criminals will use them against corporate targets.

    • RTIII

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the oligarchs.

We can be pretty sure the Russians’ didn’t do this; it would be stupid of them to go public like this.

      • s k

I agree a 100%, why would they show their cards. That would like bragging they broke a code.

      • kreskin

        makes no sense

      • The_Fixer

Right. They’d shut up about it and use the exploits to their advantage.

      • MsPythia

I’ve thought the same thing. Saying “the Russians” just seems to be team Hillary’s way of rattling sabers for wars they want.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

She’s courting older voters. I guess she wants to bring back the nostaliga of the cold war.

          • kreskin

Let it die ? There’s far too much money to be made .

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lol

        • kreskin

It’s a diversion , that Russian boogey man becomes the topic , the E mails and the information they contain are ignored .

          • MsPythia

            I know — it’s so ridiculous!

          • kreskin

Not obvious , is it ?

          • MsPythia

Heh — the media must really take us all for idiots.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Hillary got 13 million votes, supposedly. No wonder they take us for idiots.

          • kreskin

It works , people sucker for it . Doesn’t help that the media plays right along .

          • kreskin

            Are they wrong ?

          • MsPythia

Well yes, I mean a lot of us aren’t fooled by this bs.

          • kreskin

The collective / majority ? I’m not sure that they are wrong .

          • MsPythia

            Yeah — depressing isn’t it?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Forget who said it but…

“I think you’ve got the vote of every intelligent American!” – Said to some politician after a great speech.

Politician: That’s not good enough. I need a MAJORITY of votes.

          • MsPythia

LOL! Yup, that about sums it up.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup yup

          • cathyx

I think it’s more than a boogeyman. I think they want to start something with them.

          • kreskin

The lunatics are running the asylum. Clinton worries me , she is bad news.

          • Blue Basilisk

They probably have Red Dawn on constant loop in campaign headquarters.

    • Christ. It’s not Russia. That much is clear from the revelations of DNC/Clinton/Obama bullshit, and from the technical evidence.

      • kreskin

Facts are no longer relevant in this country .

      • smkngman3

        You Lie!

The anointed (insert cackle) one and her minions always tell the truth!

  • SpiffyTheValiant
    • The_Fixer

Good Day, My Queen. Indeed, we can start our revelry!

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        <3 That's right.

      • MsPythia

        Good Day Fixer!

    • RTIII

      Where ya been?! 🙂

      • cathyx

She’s been busy getting all dolled up for this party.

I’m working on an article. Unka and some of the guys have been nudging me to write up a bit about the coming apocalypse… So, I’m doing it.

          • MsPythia

Eeks — climate change apocalypse, you mean?

          • RTIII

I’m about, oh, 80% or more done with it now… Should be about a half hour I guess! 🙂

yup-these aren’t even her big ones…I used to like them too.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

“HOW BEVERLY HILLS BILLIONAIRES BUILT A WATER EMPIRE IN CALIFORNIA WITH TAXPAYER MONEY”

The Resnicks received their first taxpayer-funded water windfall in 1995 when they were effectively “gifted” the Kern Water Bank by the State of California (i.e. taxpayers). Ironically, the State had just purchased the Kern Water Bank 7 years prior for $148mm (in current terms) to serve as an emergency water supply for Los Angeles. We guess the threats that had led the State to seek out an emergency supply of water disappeared over the course of those 7 years.

OMG, thank you for this, this issue is just about literally in my backyard. I had no idea that the Resnicks owned Halos (which grow here).

    Pimping for Israel, or…….

“How a casino tycoon is trying to combat an exploding pro-Palestinian movement on campuses”

Robert Gardner rarely heard anything about Israel growing up in South Los Angeles. But at UCLA, he started learning about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — and seeing parallels with conflicts close to home.

The African American senior likened Israeli crackdowns on Palestinian protesters to police violence against black Americans. So he joined Students for Justice in Palestine and an international movement known as BDS, which advocates boycotts, divestment and sanctions against companies deemed players in Israeli human rights violations.

Earlier this year, though, he was shocked to see — on a poster outside a Westwood market — his name listed as one of 16 UCLA “Jew haters” and terrorist allies.

Since then, he says, “I’ve received death threats online, and people have followed me.”

    http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-uc-israel-palestinian-adv-snap-story.html

    • Annaleigh

I recently saw on Twitter that a Jewish organization was having a fit because a delegation of Black Lives Matter activists went to Palestine to meet with Palestinians…

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

        🙁

      • MsPythia

Good Day Annaleigh! I hadn’t heard about that! Good for them!

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

This whole thing is sickening especially when you factor in the end timers.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      o.o That should be illegal.

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

The death threats are, wouldn’t surprise me if they were turning a blind eye on it due to chosen people and Jeebus.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

To actually put up a poster like that about a STUDENT?! He’s not a public figure…

      • smkngman3

Nothing is illegal when Israel and their pimps do something like this.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          yeah

          • smkngman3

Several states`have already passes anti-BDS laws.

            Me too — and yes.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

One would think that is bluntly unconstitutional.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

It is but they don’t care.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Should take it to the Supreme Court.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

They probably won’t care either so they won’t be called anti semitic.

          • smkngman3

Hasn’t gone through the courts yet so all our political pimps want the Israel Lobby money, damn the Constitution!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

      Good day Sho! 🙂

      • Shohanna

        How are you guys today?

        • MsPythia

          Doing okay. How about you?

          • Shohanna

Besides being off schedule, peachy. I had a migraine most of yesterday. I managed to sleep it off. Which lately has been a rarity. Then Anty Mary decided to show up and fuck up my day. LOL (possibly tmi) but it explained why I had a migraine.

            How’s your day?

          • MsPythia

Okay — I’m doing laundry, but also being lazy. I need to get my ass in gear. lol.

          • Shohanna

Reminds me of me. I have dishes in the sink. I need to vacuum desperately, and I need to start the laundry too. However… I am in some infer grande and can’t be arsed.

      • MsPy! :^)

    • Hello Sho:^)

      • Shohanna

Hey Stephanie! How come sometimes you have an avatar, and other times you are naked?

        • Because naked is a good state to be in:)

Honestly I don’t know. I see that too sometimes, not sure why it happens.

          • Shohanna

Hahaha Oki, thought I would ask. you seem to have gotten dressed! 😀

        • notisaidthepig

I want you to NEVER change your current avatar, Sho. Because I freaking LOVE it. Hysterical. Oink!

          • Shohanna

I can’t promise that Noti! I will keep it around awhile though. 😀

    • 17

      Hi Sho. How was church?

      • Shohanna

Pshaw what church?! OH you mean sleeping in? Good. I needed it. I spent most of yesterday in pain attempting to stay awake. Managed to actually sleep off my migraine which is a rarity.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          Glad you slept well.

          • Shohanna

Thank ya! It’s been rare lately. So it was a welcomed surprise!

  • notisaidthepig

    How are my peeps doing?

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Hey noti.

      • notisaidthepig

Hi, Toad. How are things shaking?

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Not too bad, just being extremely lazy right now. Yourself?

          • notisaidthepig

Had a VERY lazy start myself. But finally the thought of some lunch got me off my butt. 😉

          • notisaidthepig

In Russian, “I love you” sounds like you are saying in English “yellow blue tibia.”

            Sho, yellow blue tibia!

          • Shohanna

Ahh! Yellow blue Tibia!! **nod** I like it.

    • Doing fine Noti, how about you?

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        Stephanie 😀

      • notisaidthepig

No complaints at this end. Thank you, Buddha! How about yourself?

        • It’s a very fine day the sun is out. I got all the cleaning today done that I blew off yesterday.

I have all these wood cutting boards and wooden bread bowls. To care for them you have to wipe them down with vinegar, let them dry, and then put a very thin layer of mineral oil over them and then wipe that off. There is something pleasing to me in this maintenance.

          • notisaidthepig

Sounds like a lot of work but I understand how that can actually be soothing in a way. Oink!

          • Wood is just so incredibly beautiful that it’s worth the extra effort. For cutting boards I also have some coriander pieces, glass and a couple plastic ones. I have an insane amount of cutting boards. But there are days that I can use the majority of them.

          • notisaidthepig

            I love wood too. Oink!

          • Shohanna

Reminds me, I need to do that to my cut board so it doesn’t warp. BRB.

Busy here in the cornfield. Hope all is well with you today. Weather here is beautiful. Got the house opened up for much needed fresh air. Should be out playing in it, but my LAN’s on the fritz and drivin me crazy. I should do less dancing in the minefield. I lose a limb every time.

      • notisaidthepig

It’s a bit overcast here in Vegas so the temperature seems under control. It won’t last. I went to the park down the road and thought it might start raining. Weird.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Hazy here in Seattle as well, saying it’s supposed to rain and cool down until Thursday.

        • Shohanna

ABSOLUTELY beautiful here in Sunshine city. Partly cloudy, Low humidity (SURPRISE) highs of 79 degrees. Though my temp gauge says 88!

    • Shohanna

Good, still waking up. I hope I avoid another headache today. Yesterday’s was awful.

      • Sorry Sho 🙁

        • Shohanna

          <3 I am good now! 😀

      • notisaidthepig

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Will donate in a bit, need to do my vertigo exercises. Just got an email from my ENT doctor saying I may need to see another physician.

      • notisaidthepig

Me too. I like to chip in every month.

        • MsPythia

Me too — monthly plan, and occasional smaller donations.

      • Why, if I may ask?

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          Why what?

          • Sorry. Why your physician thinks you need to see another doctor. Is it for a special treatment?

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Yes, I’ve been seeing a physical therapist for about a year now so he thinks I may need something more.

          • I hope the new treatment will do the trick. Wishing you healing (((Hugs)))

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Thx

          • Shohanna

I remember physical therapy. It fucking hurts. However, it’s not the same kind of pain as actually being hurt. So I was able to power through it. I dunno if I could do it now at my age though. I have tried to power through this pain and I can tell it’s not the same kind of pain. It’s the “INJURY” pain and my body says STOP or I will make it stop for you!! **threatening look at me**

I hope you have better doctors then I do. /nod

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Thanks.

ICYMI: Stein writes open letter to Clinton and Trump. I suppose it can’t hurt.

Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka Urge Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to Widen Inclusion in Debates
    http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/open_letter_to_donald_trump_and_hillary_clinton_20160821

    • MsPythia

They’re doing everything they can to keep Jill off that stage.

      • notisaidthepig

They will keep her off. But hopefully she’ll crash the party again. Another arrest and this time maybe CNN will cover that. Maybe. Might be interesting.

        • MsPythia

Yes, Jill will do that again. She’s a badass.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      They’ll just ignore it.

      • notisaidthepig

Well, Clinton said she would debate Bernie before California and then crickets. This won’t go anywhere but it’s a needed step. It continues to delegitimize them.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          yeah. it can’t hurt.

        • MsPythia

You’re right, it does do that. It’s hilarious that people give Shillz any credibility at all with how petrified she is of speaking in public.

          • notisaidthepig

I hope Stein calls her out saying “What is Hillary so scared of?”

          • MsPythia

Jill has to do that because the media won’t.

          • Shohanna

I think it has to do with her inability to handle stress. She has some kind of brain injury. Some independent Doctor needs to inform us whether she is fit for office or not. B/c in my estimation she isn’t.

          • MsPythia

You could be right about that. There’s either got to be something very wrong with her, or she just has no answers to the questions people have about her rigging of the election, or the tons of corruption that has been revealed about her so far. No one else would ever get away with a total refusal to do press conferences while running for president the way she has.

          • Shohanna

I doubt seriously has to do with not having answers. We have 2 videos of her having seizures in front of everyone by having a press conference. Those weren’t faked. Why they happened no one has told us, and that shit shouldn’t fly. What if she has a seizure at the wrong time?! What if she can’t handle the news that the President needs to handle? We can’t have someone incapacitated!! We need to know for sure whether she can or not and I bet you dollars to donuts she has had so many they dare not tell us.

          • MsPythia

And then there’s that photo of the big burly SS guy holding the medicine injector pen…

          • Shohanna

Yup! There is something about this very suspicious. I have no clue what it is, but this wouldn’t be done normally. Why are they so insistent on Clinton? Ask the questions that actually point to answers. Why are they so insistent on Trump? (He would not be there if the Elite didn’t think he would help them.)

What kind of show are they attempting to show us? What exactly are they hiding and what are their goals?

Our extinction and money and power for them. (Wars make money) and they are solely focused on that.

          • MsPythia

It’s all so crazy and stupid, isn’t it?

          • Shohanna

Yes, but I have so far adapted to the upside down world. Kinda… Well, maybe at least enough to see the logic. LOL

          • It’s becoming an epidemic the number of politicians that don’t feel the need to communicate with the constituents or to answer questions.

In though moments I would dearly love to smack the arrogance right out of their head.

          • MsPythia

            Me too!

          • We can take turns or you can go after Hillary and I go after Rahm Emanuel:^) What he has done to Chicago should be Criminal.

          • MsPythia

            LOL!

          • s k

Rahm is destroying the Chicago public schools.

          • Yep

          • s k

Hillary has to lie, that what’s she’s been doing the whole primary.

          • MsPythia

            So true.

Well the FBI did tell us she is so fucking stupid that after decades of being trained in Op Sec and how to handle classified documents she still can’t grasp it so there is that.

          • Shohanna

Fucking reminds me of my Mother. she spent years balancing the checkbook and paying the bills being responsible. ETC. Then suddenly one day, she forgets everything she knew about being a responsible adult and goes “Stupid”. ON PURPOSE.

**sigh** I can’t talk about it without getting so pissed off I want hurt someone. Purposely being stupid to get your way…… GRRRRR

I bet you anything that’s also why I can’t stand Hillary. She reminds me of my Mother. **shiver**

          • cathyx

George Bush reminded me of my father, so there was extra hate going on there too. I couldn’t stand to even look at the man.

          • Shohanna

Right?! I mean I don’t want to “hate” anyone, but when they remind me of people I actually do have serious animosity for….. I tend to go over board. LOL

    • smkngman3

      Never happen!

Everything is working according to plan.

  • notisaidthepig
    • MsPythia

      Damn — she’s fantastic! 🙂

      • notisaidthepig

She sure is. Glad she is smart as a whip and using this historic opportunity as best she can. She’s the right person for this moment.

        • MsPythia

It’s so clear that she is far, far smarter than Hillary, and that she can think and speak incredibly well on her feet. In this way she’s like Bernie was. When you know the issues inside out, and know exactly what you think needs to be done, you can clearly and articulately lay it all out for other people.

          • notisaidthepig

Authenticity. Something $hillary can only dream about.

          • MsPythia

            Indeed.

        • s k

She is a hell of a lot better than Sanders.

          • Nancy

not having to watch her step like he did gives her a whole bunch of freedom that he never had.
I also find her more articulate and energized than he is.

          • s k

Jill goes after the MIC, Sanders never did.

          • Nancy

            MIC?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            military industrial complex.

          • Nancy

thanks…googled and nothing showed that made sense to me.

          • s k

Wow, google is hiding the MIC now.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

That’s cause Google doesn’t want meddling Canadians to know our secrets.

          • s k

            Google is just being “polite”

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

  • RTIII

    OK, people!

Some here urged me to write this all up for us. It took me a LOT longer to write than I thought it would. I certainly hope yall find it of value. I intend to improve it with time, add images and such. Let it be a link you toss out to the assholes we encounter as we fight trolls here and there!

Oh wow, new material! **runs to go read it**

    • Much appreciated RTIII.

    • s k

      Good article RT!
I don’t know if you have seen this, but you might find it interesting,

The outbreak occurred on the Yamal Peninsula where, as Truthout previously reported, massive amounts of methane trapped in the permafrost has exploded out of the ground, leaving large craters.

In response to the re-animated bacteria, Russia sent troops trained for biological warfare to quarantine the area.

This type of disease outbreak in the Arctic was previously the stuff of science fiction, but no longer. Climate scientists fear it may well be a harbinger of what is to come as the Arctic continues to warm at a record-breaking pace. Given that there is no way to know what other kinds of deadly bacterium remain frozen in the Arctic’s permafrost, we will find out only as the ice melts the bacteria, which will then re-animate as it did in Russia.

All of this is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. It truly is just a token of what is to come, as global temperatures continue to escalate.

In Arctic, Ancient Diseases Reanimate and Highways Melt as Temperatures Hit “Frenzy” of Records:http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/37310-in-arctic-ancient-diseases-reanimate-and-highways-melt-as-temperatures-hit-frenzy-of-records

See I said that once on a debate thread and got a 3 day vaca. :/ Fuckers don’t want to hear the damned truth of the matter. And someone told me they cheated once but will never do such a thing again. Guess what?! He left me for another woman. O.O Color me “surprised”. NOT~

“Hillary Clinton’s team having trouble finding someone angry enough to play Donald Trump during debate prep ”

“It’s very hard to find someone to mimic the reckless temperament and the hateful instincts and divisive instincts of Donald Trump,” Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Preparing for a debate with him is a challenging task, but Secretary Clinton is looking forward to the debate,” Mood said. “I think you will see a real difference between steady leadership and a very reckless temperament.

If she wants angry, I can show her angry.

Come on Hillary. Call me. I don’t think you are woman enough.

      • MsPythia

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          I can help her >:)

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Mind slugging her too while you help her?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Well if I can convince Hillary that it will help her pull the poor me, Im a defenseless woman card… she’d probably let me.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            lol

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            She would.

      • smkngman3

I think there are quite a few here who would destroy her in a FAIR debate

edit, Sorry folk, this old computer is giving me fits!.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          :3

    • RTIII

Figures. Her debate preparation has ZERO interest in talking to the people about issues and leaving Donald in the dust, but rather is focused on feeding the beast, buying into the whole personality not policy meme that is so MSM / status quo.

      • MsPythia

If she did talk about the issues, she’d only lie anyway.

    • Nancy

can you imagine what a difficult time Donald is having trying to find someone that lies, deflects, diverts, projects and spins the way she can?
THAT’S got to be even harder…

      • Hi Nancy :^)

        • Nancy

          • Edwin

Ha ha. When I was in rehab one of the guys said “fuck” and then said, “Oh, fuck. The fucking counsellors fucking told me I have to stop using eff word.” We all burst out laughing because every second word he said was fuck and he was very funny.

His other problem was he had over 1,000 bottles of homemade wine in his garage to deal with once he got home from rehab.

          • Edwin

            fucked and fuckeder

          • Nancy

That’s the kind of loyalty Ricki wanted from all of us. Loyalty is very important to her. (As long as it is one-way.)

          • kreskin

The whole thing is just ridiculous . panem ????? ‘s comment was right on . I don’t know if it’s still there.

No harm in looking. I don’t mind saying I am happy to see them and their site implode after the fucking over they gave me. (I’d also be happy to watch C&L go down the tubes.)

Once this shit happens to you, you’re not really an “impartial observer” anymore.

When I first came to Korea. What is wrong with people??!

          • Nancy

            they love to create drama

          • Edwin

The loyalty thing is just bullshit. Ricki playing the violin, “Why don’t you love me?” (damnit!)

          • cathyx

I don’t agree. I think trying to play neutral when people are being hurt is wrong.

          • Edwin

I agree. Sometimes people need a good bop in the nose.

          • Nancy

            it’s too bizarre.

      • Edwin

We figure it’ll be Ricki’s turn to drunk-post music alone tonight. She usually adds some colourful commentary. (e.g., Fuck you! Fuck all of you! You don’t know what I built. Fuck you!)

        • s k

Do you think she drinks out of a straw, so she can post at the same time?

        • kreskin

Is it possible that the two are actually one ? I’m beginning to wonder.

        • kreskin

Listening to the quiet right now . My wife went to the store and our parrot is napping. : )

          • notisaidthepig

            Did someone say nap?

          • RTIII

            IDK, I was knapping. -shrug-

Did you catch my new article today?

        • Edwin

Maybe that’s what I’m missing, Steely Dan.

          • You’re missing Steely Dan, but can you take about an hour, on the Tower of Power? 😉

          • Edwin

Do I look like a Bobby to you?

        • Hey, 19…

    • notisaidthepig

This is still wrong (and I’m not a pet person).

      • smkngman3

I agree, but I lkied the Steely Dan reference.

  • For anyone who’s interested, here’s what a Dungeons & Dragons game, being played at a virtual tabletop, by people all over the country, looks like.

    • notisaidthepig

I never could get into D&D. When I arrived at college, my first roommate was a D&D nut. Others joined him and I figured I would give it a try. Couldn’t get into it. Oh, well. Different strokes for different folks, right?

      • I’m more of a “Traveller” guy (Science Fiction Role Playing), but this is my one D&D game, and I play it because the Game Master is a marvelous story-teller and my fellow players are all great actors and players.

        • Edwin

I used to play snakes and ladders. That’s about as close as I got to D&D.

          • Role Playing Games are fun and easy*. They’re like a combination of writing and performing a play, with friends. If you ever liked school plays, or stuff like that, you’d love RPGs.

*Note: There are some math intensive RPGs that are more like simulations, but those are in the minority.

          • Edwin

I love games. The problem I’ve had is I never run into people who also like games.

When I was young, my brother and I played games all the time. We had epic 3-day Monopoly games and we had to add zeroes to the money to make $1,000 and $5,000 bills. We played every game going under the sun back in the 70s. Cards, board games, chess, checkers, backgammon, etc.

          • cathyx

Edwin, i have the same problem. I love board games, card games, but no one around me likes them. I wish you lived next door to me.

          • Edwin

If I ever get back to Canada I’m thinking about advertising online and trying to organize a games club. I’d like it if we could get a few people to meet once a week and do our games thing.

          • cathyx

            would we do this online?

          • Edwin

I want it to be a social thing. Real people getting together to talk and stuff. I don’t need new ways to spend more time online. 😀

That’s the oldster in me. I’d like to ride my bike over to my friend’s house, knock on the door, and be invited in to sit at the game table (with beverages, snacks and good conversation.)

          • Go, download VASSL. Then we can talk.

            http://www.vassalengine.org/

          • Edwin

For a while “Wheel of Fortune” had a free online game I used to play sometimes. The guests inevitably got around to abusing each other (rather quickly, um, surprisingly) and it usually ended with being called a fag, but we stuck around to solve the puzzles. And, yes, of course I usually won.

          • Edwin

I’ll look at it, but I already spend way too much time online.

Did you know about the S Korean baby that died of malnutrition because its parents were addicted to online games?

          • cathyx

Unless you’re willing to come over here, i won’t be traveling to canada to meet up to play board games.

          • You guys know, right there’s a great application, called “VASSL” that allows you to play tons of board games and war games, online?

          • cathyx

            Never heard of it.

          • cathyx

I never liked playing dress up, i would never like playing RPGs.

          • cathyx

I used to play chutes and ladders. That’s as close as i got to roll playing games.

        • RTIII

DAMN, haven’t met another Traveler player in … -gulp- maybe THREE DECADES!

Yet, the reference books are literally on the shelf right next to me, within my right arm’s reach! WOW!

  • kreskin

The west planned to create a rift between Ukraine and Russia long ago.

    https://www.rt.com/shows/sophieco/336066-nato-role-russia-europe/

” The strategy of America was clearly explained in the book by Mr.Brzezinski, “The Big Chessboard”. In this book, Mr.Brzezinski says: “The problem of America is the competition with Eurasia.” Eurasia – that is to say Europe, Russia and China and India, perhaps – and he says: “If all these countries are against us, it’s going to be terrible for us, we are not the first power in the world, so we have to divide Eurasia, to colonize Western Europe, to survey China and Russia. For us it makes really a problem, and the best thing would be to have weaker Russia and to organize conflict with Ukraine”. It was written 10 years ago, and now you see the implementation of this strategy. I think it is an American strategy.”

Explains the proxy war we initiated and our obsession with the Russians , doesn’t it ?

” NATO has no reason to survive, because NATO was created, in the beginning, to fight against communism and against Soviet Union. There’s no longer a Soviet Union. It would have been logical to destroy NATO and to create a new order for defence and security issues, new organisation, probably, and probably without the U.S.. It was not the case, naturally, and major part of our political leaders have strong personal links with American government, it’s a fact. ”

Like I’ve been saying , what would NATO do without the cold war and that Russian boogey man ? Russia is the victim , not the aggressor .

    • panem et circenses

The path to total global dominance is blocked by the relative independence and alliance of Russia and China. That’s why there’s such a frenzied push to put pressure on and ultimate goal of causing the collapse of Russia, and to tread lightly and increase trade relations with China. Divide and conquer.

      • kreskin

        Exactly .

“Michele Bachmann: I’m advising Trump on foreign policy”

“He’s a common-sense guy, not into political correctness,” Bachmann added, according to the Star Tribune.

Bachmann is already part of Trump’s Evangelical Advisory Board, providing “support” to Trump on “issues important to Evangelicals and other people of faith in America.”

Cartoons. Let’s see. I liked the whole stable of Rocky and Bullwinkle. The Mighty Hercules, Felix the Cat, Heckle and Jeckle, and lots more, but I can’t think of them right now. It was a long time ago.

    • s k

      Bugs Bunny

      • Edwin

Or course. And I loved Porky Pig!!! But…

What cartoons, other than the obvious Looney Tunes, were favorites of yours, growing up?

        • Nancy

          Popeye!

          • I really love the old B&W Fleischer stuff. I love any of the Fleischer Bros. Work. The later color, “Brutus” generation, not so much.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLkpo2TMGCY

          • Nancy

OMG-I remember this one. I agree-these were far better without Bluto.

          • Bluto was fine, he’s in that era of Popeye. It’s when they made him “Brutus” that they also dumbed down the cartoons, and aslo when they weren’t made by the Fleischers.

          • Nancy

oh, I am not familiar with the Brutus ones.
too bad. the originals were excellent, thanks for that clip.

          • Edwin

Popeye used to fight “the J*ps” in the WWII era ones. He muttered a lot of nasty stuff under his breath too.

Walt Disney . All the looney tunes characters . Mel Blanc . The Mickey Mouse Club .

        • RTIII

          Micky was a dick.

          • cathyx

Wow RT. You realize he was a cartoon mouse, right?

          • RTIII

He taught children to be assholes to their friends.

You realize cartoons teach children, right?

          • cathyx

All those old cartoon sent very bad messages. Luckily my daughter never liked any disney movies or cartoons. Yes, i know what you’re saying, it was just so hilariously harsh i had to comment.

          • kreskin

Want bad messages ? Look at he crap that passes for children’s entertainment and cartoons in this day and age . Look at their friggin video games.

          • cathyx

What happened to you tonight? Yesterday i agreed with practically everything you said. Tonight, practically nothing.

          • To be fair, so did Bugs. He was a ginourmous dick to Elmer and Sam. Of course, those cartoons, the Looney Tunes, at least, weren’t really made for children.

          • Edwin

B, bu, but… they had it coming!!

          • RTIII

            I strongly disagree!

Whenever he was rough with either of them or anyone else there was just cause. Micky was a dick all the damned time!

          • kreskin

            Seek help .

          • kreskin

            Well , that’s a first . ( shakes his head )

    • I liked Heckle and Jeckle. Could never get into Might Herc or Felix, though I’ve nothing bad to say about them. And, of course, I absolutely adore any of the Jay Ward cartoons.

    • Oh, and the entire works of John K.

      • Edwin

I watched the Flintstones and the Jetsons, but I didn’t love them like I did Bugs Bunny.

    • Nancy

      Boris and Natasha…

      • The Jay Ward cartoons were some of the greatest. No talking down to kids and plenty for adults to like.

      • Edwin

        Well, Natasha anyway. 😀

    Another reason capitalism must die.

Ashley Dawson: Capitalism is predicated on endless expansion. It is a socio-economic system that must grow indefinitely or cease to exist. And it has to grow at a compound rate, leading it to commodify and consume ever-greater portions of the planet at an accelerating velocity. Since we only have one planet, there is clearly a fundamental contradiction between our economic system and the environment upon which it, and all of humanity, ultimately depends. But since capitalism grows in a spatially uneven manner, some people can live obscenely affluent, insulated lives while other people face stark ecological catastrophe. But at some point, capitalism will take the entire planet past a point of ecological destruction from which there will be no return, at least on any time scale that is meaningful for human beings

Life Itself Is Being Patented, Privatized and Radically Re-engineered:http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/37307-life-itself-is-being-patented-privatized-and-radically-re-engineered

    • kreskin

Endless expansion , endless / ever increasing profits. Unregulated uncontrolled capitalism a dead end road , it’s an inevitable disaster. Greed is going to do us in .

      • s k

        We’re eating our seed corn.

        • Edwin

We’re shitting in our fish bowl (and it can’t be cleaned out.)

          • s k

Yeah I know, I watched that video you posted this morning-Forget shorter showers

          • Edwin

Did you see the one I posted on sand yesterday? Who knew? Something else we’re fast running out of and is as important to modern life as air and water.

We’re running out of everything, not just oil and water. 7,000,000,000 and growing is not a good idea, unless you are a capitalist.

No I missed that, thanks I bookmarked it. I live in the sand dunes south of Lake Michigan

          • Edwin

I love sand dunes. Love beaches. Love the Great Lakes. Love being on a beach at the ocean.

          • s k

I used to wait until the children went back to school, then take trips:

Welcome to the Great Lakes Circle Tour website, dedicated to the past, present and future of the scenic routes encircling four of the five Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie. This website is intended to be a clearinghouse of information on the Circle Tours, from travel and tourism information to technical specifications on the routes themselves. A good place to start is the Overview & Introduction page:http://www.greatlakescircletour.org/

I was wonderful camping on the beaches when all the tourist were gone,

          • Edwin

There are some nice provincial park (campgrounds) on the Canadian side too.

Long Point is lovely even though Lake Erie isn’t all that clean. It’s a sandbar and migratory route for birds and monarch butterflies. It’s lovely in autumn when the monarchs descend for the goldenrod!! The Pinery, on Lake Huron, has great dunes and beaches. Killbear, on Georgian Bay, is rugged and rocky with nice clean water for swimming and dense forests.

    • God save me. One of my cats has learned which icon on my tablet’s home screen to tap, to get his “catch the butterfly” app to run. If he figures out how to turn on the tablet itself, I’m doomed.

      • smkngman3

        Don’t you believe in sharing?

        • My cat doesn’t, that’s the problem: he won’t let me use the tablet, if he sees it on. LOL.

          • smkngman3

Wait til your cat learns to use the TV remote!

          • Fortunately, I have no television, just computer monitors and a video projector. So as long as he can’t use the mouse and keyboard in a coordinate fashion, I’m safe.

“China strongly warns Japan not to send SDF to South China Sea”

China strongly warned a high-level Japanese official around late June that Tokyo should not send its Self-Defense Forces to join U.S. operations that test the freedom of navigation in the disputed South China Sea, diplomatic sources said Saturday.

Japan will “cross a red line” if SDF vessels take part in U.S. freedom of navigation operations, Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua told the Japanese official, the sources said, adding that the ambassador even hinted at military action if Japan crosses the line.

“India’s water crisis: 8 liters for 7 days, for drinking and all other needs”

A water tanker delivers water to villages in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, bordering Pakistan, once a week. There are no other sources of water anywhere nearby, locals told RTD journalists, saying their once fertile lands are turning into a desert.

“We have so many problems, but water is the major one,” residents say, adding that they’ve been facing it for five years now. According to the locals, the water disappeared suddenly, and “not in just one or two villages, but in entire community.”

    https://www.rt.com/news/356679-india-water-crisis-documentary/

    • Edwin

In one of my water documentaries, someone opened a bottling plant in Rajasthan. Aquifers mysteriously started drying up. Can you guess who?

      • smkngman3

“Nestle, who has conveniently set up a number of bottling plants in Pakistan. More troubling than this rather convenient set-up is that Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, when operating as the Nestle CEO has been quoted as saying “access to water is not a public right.”

        • Edwin

It was Coke, but same diff. (Or does Nestle own Coke now?)

Functional beverages are non-aerated ready-to-drink beverages with
health benefits such as fortified juices, vitamin water, energy drinks
and milk-based drinks. As a category, it is exploding in India and
elsewhere, although on a low base, with consumers around the world
becoming increasingly concerned about health and wellness.

Meanwhile, the largely non-processed, vegetarian diet in India with clean well water is the healthiest option. No need for Coke/Nestle/Pepsi fortified drinks.

The thing is, if you visit poorer countries, consuming these new bottled beverages and visiting fast food restaurants is seen by many as modern and progressive. They are status symbols: it means you’ve ‘made it’. And eating traditional foods like beans and rice makes you a poor left-behind peasant. (Something like that. There is a strain of this thinking.) Go into the modern, glitzy, air conditioned McDonalds or eat rice at a hot and dusty roadside stall?

          • Crap, those aren’t the only places that eating in such shitholes is considered modern and progressive. The corporate media likes to give a lot of coverage pretending there’s a wide swatch of Americans who think differently, but in my experience, those people are very small niches, located in limited areas of major metropolises.

Most people still think “Olive Garden” is classy eating, despite the fact that it’s as much fast-food as McDonald’s.

“‘I don’t give a sh*t about them’: Philippine president threatens to leave ‘stupid’ UN”

“I do not want to insult you, but maybe we’ll just have to decide to separate from the United Nations,” Rodrigo Duterte told journalists on Sunday. “Why do you have to listen to this stupid?”

“I don’t give a sh*t about them,” he added. “They are the ones interfering. You do not just go out and give a sh*tting statement against a country.”

Calling the UN “inutile”, Duterte said the Philippines could invite China, African nations and other countries to create a rival international body. He went further, slamming the UN’s response to other global issues.

I was out dead-heading my marigolds and trimming back my impatiens. The sun is doing a number on the impatiens, but if I cut them back they’ll do a second flowering for autumn. It happens every year in August. I battle to save what I can. Then they all come back for an autumn show.

I put in more corn and sunflowers a while back. Those are up now.

          Woooo-Nelly! She’s gonna be a scorcher today. 😀

Was a perfect day here weather-wise. Nice and cool. Sunshine. Blue skies. Opened up the house. Killed some weeds. Trimmed the bushes til I cut the extension cord with the hedge clipper.

By the end of this week it’s supposed to go down to 26*C (78.8F.) That will be like air conditioning. Then back up for a few days and then back down… probably for good, until next year.

Good then. We gonna get any fireworks tonight?

See, you could do that math based on the average number of posts OV makes in an average day, but the unknown is how many drunk-posting binges there will be so it makes it totally unpredictable.

“I wanted to vote for someone against war, but there was never anyone against war on the actual ballot. So, I was forced into voting for a war monger. But I learned my lesson; the first time I voted for a war monger I was accused of being a racist, so this time I’m voting for a war monger so I won’t be accused of being sexist.”

I am actually just watching bull riding-Netflix has a new series out. very interesting to see these guys (you would drool over the Brazilians) and how strong and athletic they are.
that is also a sport as far as I am concerned.

          • I vote the only sports allowed in the Olympics are the ones it started with.

          • Nancy

that would certainly cut the games back.

          • Well, yeah, but I vote that, in a break with tradition, during the Pankration events, no grabbing of Johnsons or HooHahs should be allowed.

    • kreskin

How many athletes did we had entered ? 558 , something like that ? Compare that to other countries .

We enjoyed the Rio games , sorry to see them come to an end . Was amazed , television coverage was pretty good . Coverage of the opening ceremony was so loaded with commercials that we gave up watching it .

well, when you look at it that way…

            Hi Stephanie.

There’s a TV in the house, but I never watch it. Hubby watches Korean TV. It’s in the other room and I don’t pay attention. I use my computer if I want to watch something. A few times he mentioned someone got a gold, but I didn’t bother to go see.

          • I’ve yet to watch one single event of the Olympics this year.

Our society’s singular obsession with competition, is beyond ridiculous.

Until our society can achieve a better balance between competition and cooperation, I will not indulge the obsession.

I did not realize that you had a spouse/ partner?

oh wow, that’s not good to be passing around false info-thanks.
            I must have misread that.

          • It was an honest mistake. The world would be golden, if we only made honest mistakes:^)

          • Nancy

I am practicing to see if I can be like Hillary!
look how far she got in life 😉

          • Unfortunately it pays to be a heel:/

          • Nancy

            apparently.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            okay ^^

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Smart Stephanie immediately knew what I meant.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I’d rather see an honest Nancy 🙂

          • Everyday:^)

          • Nancy

            lol, same.
            evening Daniel!

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Did you get to cross things off your list?

          • Nancy

yes, crossed off so many! I just have another hour or two left of cleaning, the yard to cut, and then the house is ready.
            thanks for asking!
            how was you day?

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I’m glad you did, I hate things nagging at me.

Just lazy really, was playing some games earlier 🙂

          • Nancy

            nice-I love those days too…
I hope you aren’t feeling too bad today.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Thanks, but that’s part of the reason for the laziness. My hip/lower back are a bit wonky still, bah. Going to try to get back to my leg/hip strengthening and balance exercises tomorrow but staying as close as possible to something I can grab and fall on something soft if it happens.

          • Nancy

awe…hope that helps you get some control of that.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Well until the next time my neurons that sort of connect to my legs decide not to work again.

          • kreskin

            That’s gotta be a beach .

          • Nancy

            🙁

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Story of my life. I’m technically not supposed to be able to walk at all.

          • Nancy

            wow, and yet you do?
what do you have/use to assist you?

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

It’s more like controlled falling. I don’t have much control and my legs spasm a lot. Sometimes when they give out I can control it enough to not fall down all the way, wasn’t so lucky last time hence the injuries.

          • Nancy

do you use a cane or any other aid?

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Not at the moment. Just force myself.

          • Nancy

would it help with the falling?
            you are brave Daniel.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

It’s what I’ve done my whole life. If it gets significantly worse then I’ll talk to my doctor about it.

          • Nancy

lol, I fall at least 3 times every winter. it hurts and one of these times I am going to break something. I got these great grips to put on and that helps but, man I hate falling.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

It is annoying. For me it helps that I usually don’t have much if any sensation.

            Be careful.

          • Nancy

lol, every winter I wonder if this wi be the year I break a hip.
that must be very different to not feel much and yet still be able to actually walk.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

You can do lots when you don’t feel it, haha.

            I hope you don’t, that’s not fun.

          • kreskin

Have been doing quarter / half sit ups on memory foam mattress … holding for 5 or so seconds at the highest point … knees raised a bit to take the pressure off the lower back . Has helped ( sciatica ) .

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Thanks for the suggestion, but sit ups are difficult since I don’t really have control of my legs so I just kinda flail.

          • kreskin

Maybe rig up a strap across your upper thighs ? I’m sure you’ve tried everything by now .

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Only real way it works for me is if I have help, I live alone so.

          • kreskin

“Turns Out New Clinton Foundation Donation Guidelines ‘Only Apply to a Small Portion’ of Activities”

But representatives of the charities confirmed on Friday that the new guidelines would only apply to a small portion of the foundation’s activities, including its work on climate change and some of its work on economic development (emphasis added).

Aren’t they supposed to divest themselves of that?

And let me guess what the economic development shit is, bank loans at usurious rates with austerity strings added, am I close?

      • smkngman3

They’re supposed to change the way it’s used as a slush fund.

          • Nancy

I think you are correct-where the hell is Hillary?

          • She can’t get enough people for a rally, which she can put on TV, so she only has closed-door fundraising events scheduled.

That or her campaign staff realize that letting the public see her talk only diminishes her chances at winning the election.

          • Nancy

taking it to the people-just a seelct few of the people in this case

“Most Want to See Clinton, Trump Tax Returns, Medical Records”

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 67% of Likely U.S. Voters think all presidential candidates should release at least their most recent tax returns to the public, although that’s down slightly from 73% who felt that way a year ago. Just 23% disagree. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

In July 2012 during the last presidential race, only six percent (6%) thought the release of the most recent year’s tax return was enough. Twenty-nine percent (29%) felt returns from the most recent two years were necessary, while 60% wanted to see more than that.

But 59% of voters also now believe all major presidential candidates should release at least their most recent medical records to the public. That’s up dramatically from 38% in May 2014 when questions about Clinton’s health were first being raised. Thirty percent (30%) don’t think candidates should have to release their recent medical records, while 11% are undecided.

      And her Wall St speeches.

    • What I want to say is, “Fuck Yeah!” but all I can bring myself to say is, “So what? They’ll just cough up the medical equivalent of a new-product press release.”

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Well Trump’s “doctor” did say he was in the best health.

        • Best health of an 80 year old?

  • smkngman3
    • Nancy

      yeah!

    • I can’t even go into why I hate that attitude in society, it’d take too long to explain. Suffice to say, I think it’s a self-defeating attitude to take, and only serves the interests of those who abuse us most.

      • kreskin

Just because I’m older that doesn’t mean I have to turn into a miserable old fogie … that’s how I took it . But I think I know what you mean …. and I agree with you .

        • See here:

The Role of Marketing in the Infantilization of the Postmodern Adult

“We cater for young viewers, where ‘young’ has nothing to do with age, it’s rather a lifestyle attitude.” This statement, in my opinion, supports the thesis that being young today is no longer a transitory stage, but rather a choice of life, well established and brutally promoted by the media system.

          • kreskin

There’s what some fascist nut job theorizes and writes , then there’s reality .

          • Then there’s what people in fortune 100 companies’ marketing departments plan to utilize, meeting in which I have sat in. Don’t kid yourself, it’s a conscious marketing tactic.

          • kreskin

I don’t doubt that at all , but are they going to change the world , turn us all into a bunch of immature fucking idiots ? I don’t think so .

          • You don’t think they already have? I first heard of this as a tactic 20 years ago. And I’ve only watched it get more omnipresent.

          • Edwin

I hear what you’re saying, but they didn’t make me buy a car, they didn’t make me buy a house, they didn’t make me marry, they didn’t make me have kids, I quit every job run by douchebag-fuckwad zombies, and I still like play time.

          • But, in fact, they do. We just think they don’t. I know you won’t accept that, most people wont. It’s one of the biggest reason these compliance tactics work.

          • Edwin

I’m not sure you realize just how child-like my mind is.

Nah nah, nah na, na na. Wammy-goo wammy-goo.

          • kreskin

Are we getting number and dumber ? Yes , I’d say so , but thats not due to their marketing skills / tactics . Giving them too much credit in my humble opinion . ( no offense )

          • The_Fixer

I think marketing skills have a hand in it.

They have managed to convince people that it is cool to be ignorant and to live in your own little world. They’ve attacked schools both financially and in the court of public opinion.

The world runs on marketing. It’s rather sickening. Politicians are marketed. Hell, the wars they promote are marketed. Every one of them has a name. “Operation Desert Shield” was marketed form start to finish.

The real problem is that people allow it.

          • It *is* in fact, that combined with the deliberate rarifying of education (which supports the marketing effort, among other things.)

          • kreskin

Marketing from a political perspective , of course . Thought we were talking about something else here .

          • Not really. Same techniques, same goals, because they have the same utility for both our political and economic masters.

          • kreskin

True enough . But getting back to the maturity thing , I haven’t witnessed a big change , not in my small world . There are a few dip shits out there , but that’s always been the case.

      • The_Fixer

I think it’s all in how you do it. If it causes other people pain, then it;s no good. If it damages other people or society in some way, then no good. Yes, one always runs the risk of looking ridiculous when taken to the extreme, but that can be true of a lot of things.

In the end, people should behave in a way that gives them happiness as long as the above criteria is met.

    • kreskin

      Hear hear !

    • Edwin

Hurray. The fuckers never got me.

    • SmotPoker

      Cool, I made it!

Off topic, but remember Levi jeans in the 70’s? You bought an unwashed pair, and you couldn’t even sit down in the fuckers until they had been washed half a dozen times. The ones today seem so cheap. The last few pair I’ve bought ripped at the knees or crotch way too easy. Cheap ass shit. They are like knock offs of Levi’s.

    • The_Fixer

Yay! I wonder when it will be seen in the U.S. without going through Internet hoops?

Funny thing, our state PBS Network took off Red Dwarf a number of years back and replaced it with another red.

      Red Greene.

Who I suppose has his moments, but it was like going from driving a decent car to driving a beater overnight.

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I like Red Greene, it can be amusing.

Well if you want it in a legit fashion I have no idea. I’ll just look at my usual sources 🙂

        • The_Fixer

I suppose it will be on limited-release DVD or Blu-Ray only available through the PBS store or iTunes or some shit like that.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Maybe BBC America if you get that. I’m too impatient to wait.

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, understand. I’ll get to see it at some point. It’s not like I have a shortage of things to do and don’t have a “to view” list that is longer than I am tall 🙂

        • rarbg

      • Not a Red Green fan, myself.

        • The_Fixer

Eh, I have seen him a few times and did laugh at a few of his bits. In the end, his skits are really all about the same thing – stupidity. Cool for a laugh once in a while, but I am not a big fan.

What didn’t help was that they did replace Red Dwarf with it. It would have had to have been spectacular to gain my favor, ’cause I loved Red Dwarf so much.

    • SmotPoker

I had no idea this was still on the air. Of course being an American that isn’t all that surprising.

        • The_Fixer

Hi Steph. Well, it was a day, had to work. But enjoying my relaxation now. How ’bout you?

      • smkngman3

        This guy is an idiot.

He has cops shooting/executing on the streets, 100’s of accused drug users.

        • The_Fixer

All the more reason that they will want some form of sudden military intervention. It’s like any other despot we had overthown, his sins were unimaginable and it was the only way to bring peace.

And we’ve been through this how many times?

          • smkngman3

Why do you think he’s running his mouth about starting a “UN” with China.

          • The_Fixer

Yup. He wants to protect his little empire. He probably could have gone a lot further if he would have just shut his mouth and go about things quietly.

What is it about The Philippines and their leadership? I’ve never known it to not be corrupt in one way or another.

          • smkngman3

To top it off, China wants to take over Islands that have been recognized as Philippine territory.

          • The_Fixer

I wonder why they’d do that? I can’t imagine it would be for resources. There’re a few possibilities, and I am not educated on the situation to the point where I could reasonably speculate.

          • smkngman3

            OIL!

          • The_Fixer

Them there islands has got Texas Tea? Well, I’ll be damned.

One of my wild theories was they wanted them to insure maritime access. But that was a guess based on something else I read.

          • Edwin

I’m not paying attention to this, but Brunei is on the south side of the South China sea and a lot of their oil is from offshore rigs.

          • The_Fixer

Isn’t China in the midst of declaring the South China Sea as theirs? I am tired right now and forgetting what I read in totality, but I know that it’s for “shipping access” (which is code for a military route).

That’s not to say the sole objective is a military one, but it certainly helps in the event that they’d need it.

In any event, this will eventually be portrayed as an act of aggression on the part of the Chinese. Never mind that we would do (indeed have done) the very same thing were we in their position.

          • Edwin

I’m afraid as the world gets more crowded and resources (fish, minerals, oil, gas) get more scarce skirmishes arise over access to them. Also control of shipping lanes.

          • The_Fixer

Not only the increase in population, but the environmental change having its effect on agriculture means that we are in for a world of hurt. We are going to have to adapt to an entirely different, survival-focused lifestyle instead of the tech-and-toy centered lifestyle we seem to be living now. And there will be a lot of pain involved.

In a way, I am glad that I am older and will not be around to see it. I am also glad I never had kids as this is one hell of a shithole we are leaving them and I would get tired of apologizing for that.

          • 17

The fact that today’s youth don’t kick the shit out of us for the mess we’ve left them tells me that they aren’t paying attention, and/or have been taught that this gravy train goes on forever.

          • The_Fixer

Actually, I have talked very frankly with more than a few people in the Millennial age bracket, and they are both paying attention and are upset. They just seem to be… well… nice about it.

That doesn’t mean that they don’t want things to change, they are struggling. And of course, a lot of them came out for Bernie thinking that he was their agent of change.

Of course, I am generalizing this, but it’s based on my own experiences and what I’ve heard and read. If some of the idiots of my generation would get out of the way, they might have a decent shot at it with someone like Jill Stein in the not-too-distant future.

          • Edwin

And the age old game continues– divide us. Divide us by age, by sex, by race, by party, by income…. and we fall for it every time.

          • Edwin

Me too. Sorry to say to you “youngsters”. I have no kids either. If we run out of food, water, etc., I’m chucking myself off the nearest cliff.

          • smkngman3

China does want control of the entirs South China sea.

Benefits to them include control of major International sea routes, fishing rights and OIL!

          • Edwin

Don’t forget yo get to claim 200 miles into the water from the land you hold. It moves boundaries. Also access to fossil fuels and other minerals.

      • Shohanna

I have to admit, I snickered at his “rudeness” and what he said about the ambassador of the USA.LOL

    The long read

“Uncovering the brutal truth about the British empire”

That’s when the phone rang, pulling her back in. A London law firm was preparing to file a reparations claim on behalf of elderly Kenyans who had been tortured in detention camps during the Mau Mau revolt. Elkins’s research had made the suit possible. Now the lawyer running the case wanted her to sign on as an expert witness. Elkins was in the top-floor study of her home in Cambridge, Massachusetts, when the call came. She looked at the file boxes around her. “I was supposed to be working on this next book,” she says. “Keep my head down and be an academic. Don’t go out and be on the front page of the paper.”

She said yes. She wanted to rectify injustice. And she stood behind her work. “I was kind of like a dog with a bone,” she says. “I knew I was right.”

What she didn’t know was that the lawsuit would expose a secret: a vast colonial archive that had been hidden for half a century. The files within would be a reminder to historians of just how far a government would go to sanitise its past. And the story Elkins would tell about those papers would once again plunge her into controversy.

      Biased is an understatement .

The eastern Ukrainians in the Donbass region are defending home ground . They may be of Russian descent but are as Ukraine as any . How is it that they are the rebels ? Did they overthrow the legitimate democratically elected government ? No .

Breaking the cease fire agreement ? WTF are Poroshenko’s boys doing there ? Why haven’t they withdrawn ? Reminder : Many of these thugs from Kiev are in a private army , hired by a fascist billionaire who’s name escapes me at the moment . They are rogue units , no one can control them .

This image was taken using a SEM which was one of my areas of expertise when I was not disabled. SEM stands for Scanning Electron Microscope, which are used extensively in the semiconductor industry. The picture is of a common ant.

I also used FIB’s (Focused Ion Beam) which while comparable in imaging to the SEM is much more destructive to the sample. A great example is to think of the SEM beam as a ping pong ball hitting the sample, and the FIB beam as a bowling ball hitting the sample.

I remember seeing SEM images as a kid in my National Enquirer that my mother read religiously back in the 70’s. I never had an inkling that one day I would be working on, and with such equipment. It made work fun rather than a job to be dreaded. I practically jumped out of bed each workday to go play with my “toys”. No two days were ever alike, and one could feel like a god bringing one of these things back from the dead.

        Good Mornin’ Edwin.

        • Edwin

          Good Morning 17

    • panem et circenses

According to Hillary Clinton, not one of her tens of thousands of emails sent or received when she was at the State Department was classified, at least if you watch her attempting to spin logic about “retroactive classification”. She attempts to obfuscate and pretend that they didn’t come down to her as classified, when as Secretary of State, she was at the very top with ultimate say over the classification system. There isn’t anyone with more authority than her on what should be classified and what shouldn’t, save for the president. She plays the entire country for fools every time she opens her mouth, and not once has she been called out on it.

      • Edwin

Why would you want a private server hidden in your basement unless you were doing things you wanted to hide?

        • panem et circenses

Security, apparently. Because the woman who alleges herself to believe that wiping a server means “with a cloth” knows better how to secure emails than the US State Department, and a Secretary of State who doesn’t think a single State Department email needs to be classified is obviously super concerned about security.

          • Edwin

And if someone does a FOIA search they can’t find anything about her activities. But, I’m sure that never crossed her mind. ooopsie!!

            https://www.c-span.org/video/?406228-4/washington-journal-joseph-digenova-hillary-clintons-emails

          • panem et circenses

Exactly. The reason she needed a private server is obvious. She wanted to hide her dealing from FOIA requests, political enemies and law enforcement. It’s the only explanation that makes any sense. Otherwise we’re expected to believe she’s incompetent on the level of being childlike. So she was either totally corrupt or completely incompetent, and I don’t think she’s that incompetent.

          • Edwin

What Does It Mean When War Hawks Say, ‘Never Trump’?

–> [It means they’ll flock to Hillary and Karoli and Amato will get boners like they did for Newt Gingrich]

That’s true of course, but it’s also pretty rich, coming from this 0bunch. The letter’s signers include, among others, the man who was Condoleezza Rice’s legal advisor when she ran the National Security Council (John Bellinger III); one of George W. Bush’s CIA directors who also ran the National Security Agency (Michael Hayden); a Bush administration ambassador to the United Nations and Iraq (John Negroponte); an architect of the neoconservative policy in the Middle East adopted by the Bush
administration that led to the invasion of Iraq, who has since served as president of the World Bank (Robert Zoellick). In short, given the history of the “global war on terror,” this is your basic list of potential American war criminals.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rebecca-gordon/what-does-it-mean-when-wa_b_11649442.html?

This part is RICH –>> Their letter continues, “He weakens U.S. moral authority as the leader of the free world.”

the article is about more than this, but my first thought was Hillary will welcome all the war criminals with open arms (because she’s so progressive)

    Clinton Foundation’s Cynical Move

“[A] Canadian charity called the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership — which is run by one of Bill Clinton’s close friends, Frank Giustra — has been moving significant sums of money into the Clinton Foundation’s flagship in New York. There’s no way for the public to know precisely how much total money the CGEP has taken in over the years — or how much it has forwarded on to the Clinton Foundation — because, unlike in the United States, under Canadian non-profit law charities don’t need to report donors to tax authorities. Earlier this year, after being severely criticized by the Canadian press, the CGEP released the names of 24 of its donors, but more than 1,000 are still unknown. (CGEP wrote in an email that “going forward [it] will publicly disclose all future donors.”) …

Since 2013, the nuclear energy arm of the Russian state has controlled 20 percent of America’s uranium production capacity.

The deal, approved by a committee that included then Secretary of State

We have an early entry for Today’s Complete Piece of Shit in Dan Bongino who is vying for a Congressional seat for the GOP down in Florida. A bit of background on Bongino, a former Secret Service agent ran two unsuccessful campaigns in Maryland before heading down to Florida to test his luck. He’s running in a district he has no vested interest in at all, he doesn’t live there. As these details were pointed out during an interview Bongino lost his shit, and pretty much made his opponents ad for him. Voters need to send this carpetbagging, professional loser home permanently.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VXBqnx2ONE

    • The_Fixer

Basically, he has modeled his philosophy on Drumpfo’s life view. Sad, sad man. All he could do at the end was just spew out a river of cusswords.

Not a good candidate for public office, not even in Florida where the standards appear to be pretty lax.

    • The_Fixer

Interesting. The kid is trying to copy Drumpfo’s look. He says that he’s been bullied. There is no mention of his father in this piece. Those things make my eyebrows raise a little bit.

If he is like a few other Conservative Wunderkinds we’ve seen, at some point he will come to his senses and disavow his past activities and opinions. After all, he’s 12 and has plenty of room to grow.

And to his mother: Yes, kids need direction and education – the problem is, you are failing at it. Teaching kids that they should put their respect and confidence in a bigot confidence man is surely a major fail.

US Fails to Recognize New Reality in Middle East

Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity have actually been systematically violated throughout the nearly six years of this conflict by the US-led coalition pouring weapons, funds, troops and assistance into
undermining a UN member state. The Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad is viewed by the United Nations as the only legitimate government in Syria. Every official UN interaction with the state is directed at this government. Besides, control of surface territory doesn’t count. The government of Kuwait in exile was still the legitimate government of the country when its entire territory was occupied by Iraq. The decision of
the UN Security Council is all that matters from the perspective of international law. The US is also in violation of its own legislation. Under the War Powers Resolution (WPR), the President can introduce US
troops into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, only (1) after a Congressional declaration of war, (2) with «specific statutory authorization», or (3) in a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces. None of three conditions that would allow the President to use military
force in Syria is present at this time. First, Congress has not declared war. Second, the Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) does not provide a legal basis for an attack on Syria. Third, there has been no attack on the United States or its military. Thus, the military operations in Syria violate the WPR.

Hacking tools stolen from NSA show Chinese cyberfirms were targeted, experts say

The cyber wars, while far less public than the actual shooting wars, are no less real and sometimes no less damaging to the nation states under attack. We have seen Russia turn to domestic microprocessors and software for their governmental and military computing needs, casting aside Intel, Microsoft and other US companies for the simple reason that they cannot trust US products not to be fatally compromised by so-called ‘back doors’ and other exploits that would threaten the security of the systems they are part of. Now China is following suit, a move which will displease the US for multiple reasons; publicly they will talk about the loss of exports, privately they will be upset that this move will make cyber-espionage a much more
    difficult proposition.

As She Rakes in the Cash, Clinton Fundraisers Still Shrouded in Secrecy
Reporters cling to chain-link fences to catch fragments of private speeches to wealthy Provincetown donors

Clinton has refused to open her fundraisers to journalists, reversing nearly a decade of greater transparency in presidential campaigns and leaving the public guessing at what she’s saying to some of her most powerful supporters.
The fundraising effort—which follows her campaign’s most lucrative month so far with a $63 million gain in July—underscores Clinton’s continued evasion of transparency over her ties to wealthy elites.

Clinton’s Transition Team: A Corporate Presidency Foretold

After many months of asserting that her support for the “gold standard” Trans-Pacific Partnership was a thing of the past — and after declaring that she wants restrictions on fracking so stringent that it could scarcely continue — Clinton has now selected a vehement advocate for the TPP and for fracking, to coordinate the process of staffing the top of her administration.

But wait, there’s more — much more than Salazar’s record — to tell us where the planning for the Hillary Clinton presidency is headed.

Follow the money trail for source of ‘Russian threat’ paranoia

Certain people are trying to scare us witless about Russia and the ‘threat’ the country apparently poses. The hysteria reminds one to the build up to the Iraq war, when we were warned every day about the ‘threat’ of Saddam’s deadly WMDs, which – surprise, surprise – turned out not to exist.

” Putin completely lost patience with the journalists, berating them for lazily helping to accelerate a nuclear confrontation by repeating US propaganda. He virtually pleaded with the western media, for the sake of the world, to change their line:

We know year by year what’s going to happen, and they know that we know. It’s only you that they tell tall tales to, and you buy it, and spread it to the citizens of your countries. You people in turn do not feel a sense of the impending danger – this is what worries me. How do you not understand that the world is being pulled in an irreversible direction? While they pretend that nothing is going on. I don’t know how to get through to you anymore.

Does anyone in the reeking garbage heap that is mainstream western media have a conscience? Do they even have enough intellect to get what Putin is saying – that they are helping to push the planet towards World War III? ”

Speaking of charter schools (and the article Smokey posted on the Resnicks) they started a charter school here in town -appropriately named Wonderful after their almond/pistachio brand-). I’m sure the kids that get to go to that school are getting a decent education but meanwhile, teachers for other schools in town are having to plead their case for financial help on Donors Choose.

      • Shohanna

That’s terrible. I don’t like charters because they are stealing tax payer’s dollars and our kids suffer as a result.

          • Shohanna

That’s fucking interesting. I can’t reply to Kreskin?!

Here is my reply I attempted to tell him. Not that I am angry or anything. Just kinda curious why I have been blocked? Having a kewl ass discussion here. I am not mad, or angry. I am kinda hurt.

I guess you would have to have worked / volunteered at some place where
you see people drop their masks in order to get his POV.

            I
believe it because I have met some particular people who shall not be
named. I was ashamed of them and well quite frankly I won’t admit I even
met them because of it. So I get his POV. I believe it because I have
            experienced the same damned thing.

            Their “media” face is a
goddamned ACT so they are good actors and then there are bad ones. Who
do we hear about the most? That would be the bad ones.

          • Shohanna

And On that ‘Blocking’ Note I am going to go play my game. Fuck this shit.

          • RTIII

kreskin has blocked you?! Must be some kind of mistake – that’s very hard to believe! :-O

          • Yeah, I find it hard to believe it’s deliberate. I’m betting it’s more likely some sort of weird bug. The other day, Disqus logged me out of my account and when I tried to log back in kept saying “No account with that email address is registered.” After 6 tries over an hour, it finally just up and admitted it recognized my registered email and logged me in.

I’d be suspicious of Disqus first. Every time.

          • Shohanna

I tried on different replies. All of them refused to allow me to post to him. /shrug I could post to anyone else.

          • smkngman3

            ???

          • Shohanna

Earlier today, I was having a discussion with Kreskin. When I went to answer him again it would not allow me to post to him. There was no “post as shohanna” to him. Any one of his other replies. But I could reply to everyone else. I assumed (it’s bad) that he blocked me. Instead of getting in a fight, I went to play my game and cool off.

          • Shohanna

Look I grew up with someone like this. Even when they are out and about with other people around, you can tell who does these things. There are classic facial markers that show it off. Especially when you are a child receiving the abuse. You memorize that face. You can’t help it. I am ALWAYS torn between the love I have for her being the human that birthed me and the bitch who caused the longest lasting scars even past my rapists.

When someone you hold on a pedestal is removed, you don’t fucking forget. When you go back through your own life and recognize every single time you chose a man who did the same thing. YOU LEARN what things they had in common, which things lead to any abuse and you stay away.

She has every single classic sign. Whether I have met her or not, she isn’t someone I would ever introduce myself to spontaneously.

          • kreskin

I’m no fan of Hillary Clinton , but c’mon , not every quote and accusation is true .

          • Shohanna

No, not every single one. But I believe this particular one. /shrug

          • smkngman3

I believe it. There have been too many reports of Hillary being nasty going back to Bills WH days.

          • Shohanna

It’s not. I know. She is an “abuser” and I have always felt that way. At one point I felt sorry for Bill. It was NO question in my mind why he cheated. LOL

    • Shohanna

That’s the look she carries on the stage where ever she goes and those of us who have been abused and mistreated RECOGNIZE it. I will not vote for her for that and many, many other reasons. THIS guy said exactly how I feel!

I see some great links have already been posted but haven’t seen this…………..

“FBI uncovers 14,900 more documents in Clinton email probe”

“We’re pleased the court accelerated the State Department’s timing,” Fitton said. “We’re trying to work with the State Department here, but let’s be clear: They have slow-walked and stonewalled the release of these records. They’ve had many of them since July 25 … and not one record has yet been released, and we don’t understand why that’s the case.”

In a statement, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the agency previously agreed voluntarily to hand over emails sent or received by Clinton in her official capacity as secretary from 2009 to 2013 but that tens of thousands of documents would have to be “carefully appraised at State” to separate official records from personal ones.

      • smkngman3

Seems the WP was afraid NOT to report on this.

I wonder if the NYT will cover it.

        • MsPythia

I was surprised that WP would cover it! Didn’t Hillary swear under oath that she had turned all the emails over?

          • smkngman3

She said she turned over ALL those emails other than her personal one, UNDER OATH. We already knew that was a lie, but it seems the extent of that lie is massive.

          • MsPythia

Right? When she is interviewed they never ask her about this, and she hasn’t done a press conference in 261 days.

    • kreskin

An insider , makes sense .

    • 17

Bamford/Foreign Policy magazine are one of the sources for articles I was not permitted to post at TBR. The censoring of it, and Veterans Today was the basis for everything that eventually exposed TBR and its owners/operators.

Regarding this particular article: Since our media is as tightly controlled as it is, I don’t really know what to think in terms of what kind of exposure we’ll see.

      • RTIII

They actually said you couldn’t make links to them? Very Strange!

        • cathyx

Psst. That wasn’t actually the real reason Ricki banned him, just a convenient excuse. Just like Edwin talking about Karoli wasn’t the real reason she had a problem with him either.

          • 17

Actually it WAS the initial reason. Everything that followed was an attempt to keep me from exposing just what she is.

          • Shohanna

How do we know that Ricki isn’t really Karoli? Or one of the “mods” of the 3 boards we were all banned from? They have a list don’t they!?

          • Edwin

Eggzackly. That was made up shit used as cover for her to play her twisted games. She’s such a creepy fuck.

We all got lied to and used bad. They enticed us into their web of deceit with kindness and then started to pick their victims off one by one.

        • 17

Yes. First they blamed Tumblr, then they blamed Disqus. Then they said those were “White Supremecist” sites, and they didn’t want that garbage posted on their site. That’s when I brought up their censorship, and that led to my banning. The whole “stalking” thing was an excuse to justify the banniong without having to address the censorship.

          • RTIII

There was nothing about off-limit links in the ToS! :))

          • Edwin

I didn’t break any TOS when I posted Smelley Pee’s own words in the C&L open thread (the night of Purge #2.) Karoli had a major hate-boner for me and made up a pack of lies, then banned me.

            These people are sick.

          • 17

That’s why they threw in the afterthought that the TOS were “what WE say they are”.

          • Edwin

Seen that before; back in the old country. “Anything our site team considers sexist.”

      • Edwin

I saw something about that, but I wasn’t sure what was going on. It turns out I didn’t see everything posted. in fact, it seems I missed a lot of it.

I see this is the second morning in a row that OV has said good morning and the both of them have completely ignored him, their only guest.

Remember how Neb made a point of going around to greet all of us, individually, every day? You’d think if they built a serious blog and wanted to rehab it they’d be kissing OV’s ass. Maybe it wasn’t a serious blog. Maybe it was just a trap to lure in new victims for Ricki to fuck with.

          • cathyx

Ramsey Orta, the New York City man who filmed Eric Garner’s death, recently accepted a plea deal on weapons and drug charges and is likely to spend the next four years in prison.

Now, the New York Post reports, Orta is suing the city for $10 million. He says that he was arrested on trumped-up charges in retaliation for recording the controversial arrest that sparked protests.

‘Despite the murder of Eric Garner by the NYPD, Ramsey Orta, who filmed the incident, is the only person present at the incident who is going to prison because the NYPD engaged in smear tactics, in cooperation with the news media, and prepared a tactical plan to set him up for retaliatory arrests,’ the lawsuit reads.

DNC would prefer another Cold War than admit bias for Clinton
    http://observer.com/2016/08/dems-claim-next-wikileaks-release-will-include-fabricated-content/

    • RTIII

Preannouncing your claim it’s fabricated before it’s even posted is completely ridiculous!

They haven’t contested the genuineness of any of the already released materials, so this is Really Fucking Pathetic on their part!

      AAAAAAAhahahaha! They’ve got serious butt-hurt!

What concerns me is how many people will stupidly believe…

      • MsPythia

It’s so pathetic! But I don’t know why they’re even worried about it — the bought off in-the-tank-for-Hillary media machine hasn’t even covered what has already been released anyway!

    • kreskin

The cold war has been revived . Too much money in it to let it die .

      • cathyx

The question we have to ask is, what does Israel want. Then we’ll have our answer.

        • kreskin

Lawrence Wilkerson . “We are the death merchant of the world”

Today, the military-industrial complex “is much more pernicious than Eisenhower ever thought it would be,”

… the late general’s famous quote: “Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”

          • kreskin

Billions if not a trillions are unaccounted for , the record keeping ahs been so bad that auditors can’t do an audit . To top it off the Pentagon is requesting a record amount of dollars for the ( cough , cough ) defense budget . Much of this bullshit rhetoric and fear mongering about the Russian boogey man is so that they can get more $ out of Congress. The M-effing billionaire / corporate owned media is playing right along . It’s reckless and dangerous . Greed has rendered them insane .

          • kreskin

      • The_Fixer

Yes, Defense, Inc. needs new markets for new threats. You can bet that they’re working on a missile defense system that they can hawk all over the globe.

        • panem et circenses

Its unfortunately more than just choosing a convenient target to “catapult the propaganda” and increase military spending and sell newspapers. This time they want to do what they failed to do during the Cold War and annihilate Russia as a world power, so there’s nothing left standing between them and total global hegemony.

    • kreskin

      Pathetic .

    • SpiffyTheValiant

@Karoli is lapping up this Russia shit. (Mook is Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager.) She’s going full-on RED SCARE. What a fucking MORON.

“I would also point out that Paul Manafort has been pushed out,” Mook
said. “But that doesn’t mean that the Russians have been pushed out
of this campaign. The hand of the Kremlin has been at work in this
      campaign for some time
      .”

“It’s clear that they are supporting Donald Trump,” he added.

There are moments in this campaign where I feel like we’ve been shot
straight back to the 60s. I’m waiting for them to reinstate “stop, drop
and cover” drills resplendent with air raid sirens, so our children can
experience the exquisite stress of thinking we’re going to be nuked any
      minute.

As weird as it seems for any campaign to be talking about being
“Putin’s puppet,” it is a very real concern, and one we can’t dismiss as
being outmoded. Vladimir Putin is not our friend. Russian oligarchs are
      not our friends.

I wonder if she can out-douchebag herself before November. No, I don’t. I’m sure she can and will. The comments out-stupid a lot of threads. C&L has turned into a pathetic cesspool of bullshit.

Memo To News Media: Consumers Crave Truth, Not Balance
        By Karoli Kuns

People are awake and realizing there’s something very wrong
with our news media these days. They’re not sitting back and scratching
their heads, asking how things that defy gravity can be true. Instead,
they’re looking for journalists willing to tell the truth

        …blah blah blah…

To those who refuse to pay attention, beware. Consumers have moved on
from the political pablum you serve. Only those who are bold enough to
speak truth to the professional liars will survive.

I guess she’s not really a journalist so it’s OK when she lies. I hope her last staement is prophetic and C&L goes tits up for spewing non-stop, red-baiting lies for months.

    http://www.mediaite.com/online/roger-stone-chelsea-clinton-had-four-plastic-surgeries-to-hide-that-shes-not-bills-daughter/

    • MsPythia

I do think she’s had quite a bit of plastic surgery, but i don’t know about the other claim. But if you look at older pictures, it’s clear that she’s had a nose job and a very noticeable chin implant, and possibly something done around the eyes.

      • cathyx

Maybe she’s trying to erase her resemblance to her mother.

      • panem et circenses

Yeah, I’ve seen photos she’s taken with fans as recently as a couple years ago and she doesn’t even resemble her current self.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

Well if you got the money and aren’t afraid of surgery, I don’t see why not.

          • panem et circenses

I don’t either. It wasn’t a value statement and I’m not the vanity police.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup. i’m just saying XD

          • Edwin

I have mixed feelings about plastic surgery. If you are disfigured I can understand. Otherwise I wonder if it is necessary. And I wonder why people want it. I’m not against it, just wonder why people do it.

S Korea is one of the biggest consumers of plastic surgery. People go in to get everything ‘fixed’ and ‘tweaked’. I think a lot of it has to do with peer pressure and the desire to conform. They do it to bolster their self-esteem.

In China they take it to extremes. They can now make you taller. They cut your leg bones, stretch you and put in metal thingies. Taller people are more revered and have better chances in the job market.

          • panem et circenses

Time to chop my legs off.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Well like everything it can be taken to extremes. In general, i don’t see it as that much more different than dying your hair or something. I wouldn’t voluntarily subject myself to it because i’m a baby about being cut up :))

          • cathyx

            Dying your hair isn’t permanent.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

No. But it is changing something about yourself just for aesthic reasons.

          • Edwin

            Michael Jackson went too far.

I can see a little freshening up maybe, but keep in mind it’s pretty major surgery.

@.@ yeah i think everyone agrees about Michael.

          • Edwin

I think Cher had a couple of ribs removed so she’d appear slimmer. That’s way further than I would ever consider.

Robert Redford looked like a crumpled paper bag as he aged and I think he got a bit of tightening up done. That’s not so freaky. (He was such a dish, OMG.)

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            @.@ removed ribs… wtf?

          • Edwin

          • notisaidthepig

          • cathyx

lol, me too. But that was during Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It was a twofer with Paul Newman. Sigh.

          • Edwin

          • MsPythia

It’s seems fine to me if people want to reshape something, but I’m freaked out by the idea of people who haven’t been involved in serious accidents voluntarily having pieces of plastic shoved under their skin. Implants have always seemed really gross to me.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

i’d be worried they’d break or something.

          • MsPythia

The conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch on Monday released a trove of Hillary Clinton’s email exchanges, some of which the group says show high-dollar Clinton Foundation donors receiving special access to the former secretary of State.

In 2009, top Clinton aide Huma Abedin coordinated with Clinton Foundation executive Doug Band to arrange a meeting between Clinton and the Crown Prince Salman of Bahrain, which was requested by the crown prince.

We have a green party member of the city council here in Minneapolis. I know him. He is totally grass roots and his been working for the Green Party for almost 20 years. So FUCK YOU DAN SAVAGE for proposing that I vote for a war criminal.

      • The_Fixer

Yeah, Savage has to remember that Presidential elections are the only ones in which most people vote. Therefore, investments in those elections are going to bring the Green Party, or any other minority party such as the Libertarians, the most bang for the buck.

I respect Dan Savage and his activism. He is also quite entertaining. However, he is carrying water for Clinton. Once upon a time, gay activists were the outsiders, on the fringe of society. Nowadays, gay activists like Savage and John Aravosis are hobnobbing with those who enjoy being at the center of power.

Once upon a time, the gay equality movement stood in solidarity with other marginalized groups. It saddens me to see that we have abandoned those who fought with us now that we managed to win a few major victories. It’s a giant “fuck you” to those people to stand with Hillary Clinton just because she is not afraid to use us as props or to win a certain segment of the vote.

It’s fashionable liberalism, and it is pissing me off.

Jill Stein Speaks With Victims of Louisiana’s Catastrophic Flood—and Those Trying to Help Them: http://www.truthdig.com/avbooth/item/jill_stein_is_bringing_attention_to_victims_of_flooding_in_20160822

    There are videos there.

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein was in Denham Springs, La., on Monday to speak with people forced from their homes by historic flooding—and to the volunteers trying to help them.

Some of the groups working on the scene were the Louisiana Environmental Action Network, Together Baton Rouge, North Baton Rouge Disaster Relief and Mutual Aid Disaster Relief.

In one clip (viewed 42,000 times within three hours of appearing on Facebook), Stein spoke with some of the displaced residents and volunteer relief workers from Louisiana’s Green Party.

Anika Ofori, a representative of the black caucus of the Louisiana Greens, pointed out the racialized neglect of residents in the form of slow-arriving support from the federal government. “We know from Hurricane Katrina that when the resources come, they don’t always, and most often, do not get to the poorest or the blackest communities,” she said. “So I am part of the Green Party because the Green Party platform encompasses issues that affect me, that affect the black community, that affect the poor community, that affect other minority communities. And so I thank Jill for getting in contact with us.”

    WOW!

    Refugees turned away from Canada.

The winds blew the flotilla of inflatable rafts and inner tubes off course and toward the Canadian shore. Some rafts deflated, spurring a rescue effort by the Canadian Coast Guard as well as federal and provincial police, coast guard spokeswoman Carol Launderville said in an email.

Most “floaters” had to be rescued from the water, with many towed to shore, according to the coast guard.

“They were terrified of entering another country without documentation. No one carries their passport or any ID, and a lot were drinking alcohol,” Peter Garapick, superintendent of search and rescue for the coast guard, told CBC television.

    • Edwin

Ha ha. I’ve floated down that river drunk before. I’ve also entered the you-ess-eh i-ll-e-g-ally by boat a few times. Once in drag to hit the liquor store and once because it was faster than driving.

(obviously back in the good old days)

      • smkngman3

At least you made it to the liquor store!

        • Edwin

Stocked up on cheap US hooch. There’s always a vodka sale.

(There are no sales in Canadian liquor stores.)

          • smkngman3

As much as I liked Toronto, I could never understand that if I wanted to drink at a nightclub, I had to be seated.

If I wanted a mixed drink, they served the components separately.

          • Edwin

That was a while ago. It was in the 70s they legalized stand up bars. In the old days if you wanted to switch tables to join a friend you had to have a waiter move your drink for you. Canada has hurled itself into the 20th century with liquor laws. Now if they could cut the privately-owned government-controlled retailing we might join the rest of the world.

          • smkngman3

            That was 76ish.

Worked with a band up there. One time we went on a picnic with a case of beer.and was told we had to drink the entire case. Could NOT bring any back home.

          • Edwin

It was better just to stick to weed. Cops didn’t really care about that.

          • Chunga

I thought it was Utah that did that, never new about Canada.

          • Edwin

Canada used to be very uptight about a lot of things, and especially booze. Liquor and beer stores closed at 6 pm and were closed Sundays. If you wanted alcohol in a restaurant on Sunday you had to order an equivalent amount of food $-wise to the liquor tab. All sorts of inane little laws to prevent us from drinking.

When I was a kid I remember going in the liquor store with my mom and people had to look at charts with code #s on them. Then write the code for what they wanted to buy on a pad to take to the counter. All the booze was in the back room behind the counter and no one was allowed to see it.

If you wanted London gin, you’d write #1234 on a piece of paper (order sheet) and take it to the counter. Then you paid in full, cash only. They would go get the bottle and wrap it in brown paper so no one could it and then bring it to the front counter and put it in a brown paper bag and then give it to you. It was all very clandestine. No one could catch a glimpse of one of the bottles; too shocking.

          • Chunga

            LOL.

          • Edwin

It was crazy. And no dancing or films on Sunday. Extreme movie censorship, etc. Totally uptight. It must have been when Trudeau (the first) came along we all let down out hair.

      • cathyx

Did you ever ride down the falls in a barrel?

        • Edwin

Funny you should mention it. It was back in the lawless days. My men and I had been scouring the river bank for rebel forces when suddenly we were ambushed just a few hundred feet from the brink of Niagara Falls. We were out-manned and out-gunned and fearing for our lives we piled into some nearby barrels discarded by one of the local wineries. We made way for the river fast as our legs would carry us and with a Hail Mary plunged in in the hopes of saving our lives. And the rest, as they say, is history.

          • cathyx

And let me guess. You were the first ones in history to ever do that.

“There’s been a ‘resurgence’ of job cuts”

Since the oil bust began, there have been 195,000 job cuts in the US alone, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Of those, about 95,000 occurred in 2016. They were concentrated in just a few states, particularly Texas. And it’s not over: there was a “resurgence” of 17,725 job cuts in July

Jill Stein Should Be Part of a Four-Way Presidential Debate: http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/37317-jill-stein-should-be-part-of-a-four-way-presidential-debate

After the Republicans and Democrats finished their conventions in late July, the Green Party gathered this month to nominate Dr. Jill Stein for the presidency. Stein’s campaign — with her party on ballot lines in the majority of states, and her poll numbers surging ahead of Green numbers from recent presidential elections — has the potential to be a breakthrough bid for the Greens, and for a more robust democracy.

Stein recognized the prospect in an optimistic yet urgent acceptance speech in which she spoke of “unstoppable momentum for transformational change.” The candidate who talks of ushering in a “Green New Deal” told the Green Party Convention that the party has “an historic opportunity, an historic responsibility to be the agents of that change. As Martin Luther King said, ‘the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.’ I know that arc is bending in us, and through us. And we are actors in something much bigger than us as we struggle for justice, for peace, for community, for healing.”

“Flint 2.0? Indiana residents suddenly evicted after decades of lead, arsenic contamination”

More than 1,000 residents of the 346-unit public housing complex were told last month by the city of East Chicago that they must find new housing, as the city planned to demolish all dwellings in the complex. Just days before, the city said residents would only have to temporarily relocate based on a US Environmental Protection Agency finding that soil around the complex contained toxic levels of lead and arsenic since at least 2014. Plans to remove the soil dated back to 2012.

“Somebody dropped the ball somewhere,” state Sen. Lonnie Randolph of East Chicago told the Associated Press of shock among residents as warnings of toxicity rapidly escalated. “Maybe it was intentional, or maybe by mistake. Maybe it was negligence.”

‘Troubled Man’ Alice Cooper launches White House bid”

The veteran shock rocker announced Monday that he is running for president with the slogan, “A Troubled Man for Troubled Times.”

While the 68-year-old has enjoyed a fan base for decades, his platform, unveiled on a campaign website, revealed that he is not overly serious about his ambitions.

Cooper calls for late Motorhead frontman Lemmy’s likeness to be added to Mount Rushmore, the massive mountain sculpture that honors four US presidents, and for comedian Groucho Marx to grace the $50 bill.

I had some sweet potatoes where the eyes were sprouting so I cut them off and put them in water. They grew roots and leaves very quickly. Now I have three luscious green vines in the garden. Who knew? They’re very pretty. I might even grow a few more sweet potatoes.

    http://www.food-skills-for-self-sufficiency.com/images/four-weeks-sweet-potato.jpg

    • cathyx

There are ornamental sweet potato vines, grown for container gardens, sold around the US. They have some beautiful foliaged ones.

      • Edwin

Next year I’m going to grow a lot of them. They are thriving in the heat and sun. They make lots of green. I have lots of planters and “window boxes”. Wish I knew I could do this years ago!!

        • cathyx

See if you can get the purple leaved ones, they are stunning.

          • Edwin

These are from the potatoes I buy to eat, not a garden centre. As I am in central Seoul there is no garden centre. There is an area with street vendors. The selection is limited, but pretty good for being along the sidewalk. You can’t go looking for something, you buy what they have.

This year I was really excited to find an aqua-cloured delphinium, but it died already. The heat did it in (I think). It was pretty while it lasted. Got 2 spears of flowers.

            https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/06/52/13/065213afca00f2dd0865c5596e0dc40b.jpg

          • MsPythia

I love delphinium, but they are so fragile! I’ve killed a bunch. I have no idea what I’ve done wrong…

          • Chunga

I can’t grow a delphinium to save my life. I try every year and every year they die and don’t come up again 🙁 . And I love them so but they no love me. I’ve amended the soil, keep them staked, water them when they are dry but no luck.

          • MsPythia

Same! I’ve babied mine more than any other flowers I’ve tried to grow, and no luck at all either.

          • Chunga

😢😭😩😪😥😫 , I know how you feel, sigh.

          • MsPythia

            😀

          • Chunga

My grandmother had a huge patch that came up every year and flourished. I think it’s the heat cause it wasn’t this hot when I was a kid.

          • MsPythia

When I was growing up my neighbors had a big patch of them in their yard along their back fence, I’ve always wanted that in my yard too. But at this point, I’ve kind of given up. I feel really bad when I kill plants! My husband laughs at me for that, but I can’t help it. I feel like plants are like children or animals, and when they don’t thrive I feel like a bad mother. 🙂

          • Chunga

LOL, I feel the same way. Every year I say ‘no more delphiniums’, but every year I see them at my garden store and before I know it there are a few in my wagon.

          • MsPythia

Yup – they’re gorgeous and irresistible. I feel the same way about dark pink peonies too, and again, so fragile!

          • MsPythia
          • Chunga

That’s similar to my red-magenta one but it’s the simple petal kind not the compound kind, if thats what they call it.

          • MsPythia

Are the petal kind easier to grow than the ruffle-y compound kind? Maybe that’s my problem. If the others are hardier maybe I could grow them in a shadier spot and see what would happen…

          • Chunga

I don’t know. It was one of the heirloom types so that may prove to be the hardier strains.

          • Edwin

We had tons of them growing up too.

Where do you live? What growing zone, etc.

            Southern Ontario/Niagara area is a zone 6.

          • MsPythia

I’m in Northern California — growing zone 9

          • Edwin

May be too warm. Maybe they like cooler places. The ones in Vancouver are nice, they grow in Niagara well, and the ones in England are superb.

Abbybwood (C&L commenter) tried growing sweet peas in CA, but they always died. I tried growing them here and they died. In Niagara they grow great. They like cool roots. Maybe delphinium is similar.

          • MsPythia

That’s probably it. But you know I feel like they shouldn’t even sell them then! They’re taking advantage of people who want them so much, knowing full well they’re bringing them in only to wither away!

          • Edwin
          • MsPythia

It’s cruel to the plants! I’m against that.

          • Edwin

I know what you’re saying, but I love big bouquets of fresh cut flowers. Does that make me a murderer?

          • MsPythia

No — but that’s different Edwin. They’re already murdered when we buy them! 😀

          • Edwin

Anything that brings that much pleasure must add to the overall cosmic joy so it’s a new win.

          • Edwin

            *net win

          • Edwin

Now I know you and Chunga are garden enthusiasts. I wish I had a real plot of land, not just my rooftop. But as I’m in Seoul I’m happy to have it as most people live in little boxes with no access to outside, zero, zip, nuthin’. 🙁

          • MsPythia

It sounds like you’re doing well with your gardening though! Boxes and planters are nice in a way — not a lot of weeding to do! 🙂

          • Chunga

I just have a tiny little plot in front of my house. I stuff more and more plants in every year and let them all figure out who is going to survive if the heat or cold doesn’t do them in. I wish I had more land and a bigger garden but city life is what it is.

          • Edwin

I think I saw the front of your house with snow.

          • Chunga

And I was thinkin about all my plants underneath that 3′ of snow when I was shoveling it. But they all came back up. Except for the delphiniums 😩.

          • Edwin

The snow is good for them. It’s an excellent insulator. We hardly get any snow in Korea so the roots of my perennials I have had over the years get murdered by the frigid Siberian air. They’re sitting in pots on concrete with nothing to insulate them. I wish they were in the ground with a good snow cover or lots of leaves on top, or both.

          • Edwin

This is not my place, but it’s like my neighbourhood. I don’t have flower beds, mine is all in pots.

          • MsPythia

That looks great! Are they growing greens to eat there?

          • Edwin

Looks like. Lots of people grow stuff on their rooves or anyplace they can. But Seoul is a city of high rises so few people actually have access to an outside space. I have a big space outside my door (bigger than inside my apt.)

          • Chunga

I used to be in 4 but that’s changed with global warming.

          • Chunga

            Beautiful !

          • Edwin

            OMG.

They are also in my top 5 or top 10 favourite. I have so many favourites, but some are way more favourite than others.

          • MsPythia

            Peonies are just gorgeous.

          • Chunga

I’ve done well with my peonies. I put a beautiful magenta-red one in 4 years ago and it kicks ass. Put a white one in last year and it came up strong this spring. I keep at least one tag for every plant I’ve put in and once a summer I’ll sit down and look at the stack that didn’t make it and cry. Oh well, all we can do is try.

          • MsPythia

I think it’s too hot for them in California. My sister-in-law lives in Vermont and hers are always fantastic!

          • Chunga

I guess it would matter where and at what altitude.

          • Edwin

Same with sweet peas (another favourite.) They grow great in Niagara, but die on my rooftop in Korea. My (English) grandfather (In Toronto) always had his garden full of sweet peas, gladiolas and roses and it was always gorgeous!!!! (He had other stuff, but I remember those because they were so showy.)

          • MsPythia

Sweet peas don’t do great here, but gladiolas and roses are pretty easy here — I love them too! Also lilies of all kinds do well.

          • MsPythia

Yes — magenta! That’s such a beautiful color!

          • Edwin

That’s the way it should be!!!

          • Chunga

            Yes, you are right.. {{smiling and nodding in agreement}}

          • Edwin

Well, the way it should be is they don’t die. But next best is buy more!!

English gardens are so beautiful and they have the climate to make all the good stuff flourish.

          • Chunga

I love English gardens. When I would visit my mother there I would always search out a new one to go spend hours walking through.

          • MsPythia

Yes, the English have such gorgeous gardens! They’re talented gardeners too.

          • Edwin

I could visit there just to go from garden to garden. English gardens are my favourite above all others by a factor of 10.

          • MsPythia

Me too! Makes me smile just thinking of it! 🙂

          • Chunga

It’s as if, hearing that syphilis will eat your brain away, they decided to take the gonorrhea behind Door #1.

          • Edwin

            yup

          • MsPythia

I can’t believe you’re not banned! I went there very infrequently, but the last time I went I said something they didn’t like about Clinton and BAM! I was gone.

          • s k

So am I. considering MJ banned me-LOL

          • MsPythia

Holy crap! Just freshly banned!? Congrats Sk!

          • s k

about a month ago, but I have been banned from RS and AN since the first purge.

          • MsPythia

Oh, I see. I kind of missed what you were saying — sorry!

          • Edwin

They are totally fucked in the head. They’ve gone off the deep end. Nothing but bullshit memes all day long.

          • Chunga

            I’ve been pursuing that.

          • Edwin

Oh, geez. What a buzzkill. I’m a million miles away in flowerland and jolted right back to the ugly reality of Crooks and Liars.

Hey, I should see if they responded to my latest email. What do you think the chances are?

          • Chunga

            Crickets

          • Edwin

            I checked. No reply. D-bags.

          • kreskin

I wonder if that Shelly P character and Susie Madrak are one and the same . Uniquely dumb and obnoxious … those two .

          • Edwin

Smelley Pee has a special kind of un-self-aware stupidity whereas Susie knows she’s lying her head of and has ulterior motives; to get a vagina in the Oval Office, even if she has to sell her soul (which she did).

          • MsPythia

Yes — same mentality, but I suspect there’s a lot of Ninnies For Shilz.

          • s k

About the same chance Hillary is against the TPP.

          • kreskin

I wonder if this Shelly P character and Susie Madrak are one and the same . Unique . Brains the size of a friggin pea .

          • cathyx

            You’re so bad, SK.

          • Shohanna

Couldn’t finish reading it. Too much ass kissing. hahaha

          • cathyx

I worked at the largest botanic garden in the US, Longwood Gardens, in Pa. I have a horticulture background.

          • MsPythia

I’ve been there Cathy! Wow — it’s wonderful there!

          • MsPythia

What do you grow now where you are?

          • cathyx

With the climate here, Oregon actually has a much more diverse ecosystem for growing things than Pa does. I worked in the part of Longwood called the Idea Garden, we grew everything imaginable that was able to be grown in that area of the country. I can grow even more things here.

          • Edwin

I envy some of the stuff they are able to grow in Vancouver and it does so well. Really nice gardens there.

          • cathyx

            Yes, Vancouver had similar climate.

          • MsPythia

If you worked at Longwood, that means you’re a master gardener. I love gardening, but I know that I’m in the dark on a bunch of the science.

          • cathyx

MsP, no offense, but used to make fun of the master gardener program, one doesn’t have to be very knowledgeable to attain master gardener status. We had much more training and education than they did.

          • MsPythia

Well, you know what I mean — if you were a horticultural major, you studied things that the rest of us haven’t. I know there’s a science to some of this stuff that I’m missing.

          • cathyx

Yes, but mostly it’s just experience growing things that give you the knowledge. I’ve met uneducated people who have gardened for years that could teach all of us educated folks a ton.

          • MsPythia

Yeah, my gran was like that. I picked up what I could from her, but she had a way with all plants that I just don’t. She was the kind who could break something off on a plant, stick it in the ground and it would grow — without rooting powder. She just had a mind meld with them. 🙂

          • Edwin

I’m the same. I feel sorry for them when I trim them or dead head them (cutting off their babies.)

          • Chunga

I have to deadhead my echinaceas or the birds spread the seeds everywhere and they start to crowd out everything else. I’m going to have to do a major thinning of them next spring. But I do give them away to friends when I do that.

          • Edwin
          • Chunga

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love it !!

          • Edwin

            yw

          • Edwin

It had the tail end of a flower one day and the next the pot was brown. It had vanished. Only a couple of brown leaves left behind.

          • Edwin

We always had them growing up and they were beautiful. We didn’t do a thing. Niagara has great soil and perhaps the right climate.

          • Edwin

They are in my top 5 or top 10 favourite. I have so many favourites, but some are way more favourite than others.

          • Chunga

            Beautiful Edwin !!!

          • MsPythia

            The color is divine!

            *cuddles the ms*

          • MsPythia

            😀 Aw! I love the Spiffy-cuddles! <3

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            😀 <3

          • Edwin

I had just that colour exactly. They are the divine-est flowers out there!!!

          • cathyx

Those purple leaved plants on the left is what the purple leaved sweet potato leaf looks like. That dark color. but they will trail down the side of the pot, so it’s nice to have them in a hanging basket or a tall pot.

        • SmotPoker

Evidently you can also cut them into cubes or whatever, and use them to plant more. I never knew that until talking to a friend of mine that grows his own. I take his word for it as he grows some of the finest cannabis anywhere in the nation.

          • Edwin

I cut about 2″ off the end of one potato and then cut that into three pieces making sure each one had an eye. Then I just put the pieces on a plate of water. They grow FAST.

            Nice houseplant too, I’m sure.

  • SmotPoker

Oh this was too funny not to share.

My daughters cat decided to go poke her nose into the Pocket Wookie’s bed while the Pocket Wookie was rearranging his toys. Pocket Wookie didn’t take kindly to it, and chased her off, and was so pissed about it, he kept an eye on her, wanting to catch her for the next five minutes.

6 minutes later, and she’s at his food dish happily munching away at HIS food so off he goes to chase her away from his food….

These are the things that I live for these days. The silliness of my pets, and their insane jealousy of each other, and my cannabis garden which brings me some zen time.

That’s almost home for me – spent time in those Parishes growing up for things like tubing on the rivers and so forth. . .

Doesn’t surprise me one bit. The politics of the place are hard-core stupidity and the 1000 year flood event isn’t really a 1000 year flood event, of course. But, the people are both hearty and are used to not getting any help from anybody, so they’ll be OK in the long run. Tragic event, though.

Thanks for the link – that was the best article / reporting on the subject I’ve yet seen.

      • smkngman3

        BILLIONS, not millions.

Billions for their advisory role ? I’m not talking about the Europeans.

  • SmotPoker

My other kid brother asked me how it went on my trips to retrieve my car with our dad, and I told him it was like being on a couple of 1000 mile trips with a racist, angry uncle without the racism. The man drives angry and one of these days he’s going to be shot by someone or stroke out behind the wheel. We hadn’t even left our hometown on the first trip, and we was bitching the whole time. To my chagrin it hasn’t stopped. Went with him today to the doctors office, and he spent the whole drive bitching, and getting pissed off at other drivers.

My mom used to bitch about him doing that shit all the time, but we never really understood how bad it was, and kind of blew off her complaints. I’m sad to say she was right. It can be maddening driving in a car when the driver spends every fucking minute bitching, and driving angry. Tailgating folks trying to bully them out of his way. I have to turn my eyes away because he’s that fucking close to these cars. It’s like someone taking their fingers, and bringing them ever closer to your eyes, you know what I mean by that feeling?

Of course, he believes he’s a great driver having made his living for 35 years as a truck driver so you can’t tell him any different. I fear it’s going to be quite the battle in the upcoming years when it’s time to take him off the road for the safety of all involved. His dad was a cantankerous, stubborn old fuck, and I see him emulating his dad’s behavior in so many ways. I see trouble ahead, and it won’t be fun. I don’t want to see him get his ass shot or stroke out simply because he got pissed off while driving which is every time he gets behind the wheel anymore. I try to talk him down by gently reminding him that the destination will still be there no matter what time we arrive, and sometimes it works, other times not so much….

And people wonder why I just want to disappear sometimes….

    • MsPythia

I’m sorry Smot, and I hear you. It’s weird how when people get old everything that was annoying about them to begin with can get even worse than it was before. It’s hard to find patience and empathy sometimes.

  • Sheesh, I go away for a couple interviews, and there’s 300 new comments! 😉

Anyways, update. Talked to the owners, gotta talk to the CTO next and they’re checking my references. No premature celebrations, but I’m feeling positive.

    • SmotPoker

Congrats. Not to jinx it, but outfits don’t usually have you talk to owners, and schedule discussions with executives if they aren’t highly interested in you, and your skills. Good luck.

      • Well, this is true, but they are very hands on there and they’re moving here to town, so they’re really looking to get a good feel for the folks they’l depend on, as likely many of their current staff won’t come along.

The owners are BIG angel investors and on the boards of some big companies (and one was a founding exec at a household-name website). But yeah, no jinxing but I’m hoping at least a dev job, if not more.

(I’ll be more forthcoming if I get the job.)

      this makes me sick.

      • notisaidthepig

Bodies dropping left and right. But mostly left.

        • Nancy

          FFS.

        • MsPythia

          What’s the term — Arkancided?

          • notisaidthepig

I’m not familiar with that term. Is that from the Batman canon???

          • MsPythia

No — if refers to the strange way that people who cross the Clinton’s end up dead via all kinds of highly suspicious and mysterious reasons.

          • notisaidthepig

I thought it might be alluding to Arkham Asylum from the Batman comics. Do you know it? In a weird way, it might fit.

          • MsPythia

I did know what you were referring to!

” Assange is believed to be planning a strategic “October Surprise” leak of a Hillary Clinton email, just prior the US Presidential Election.” Man , I hope so .

      • notisaidthepig

        You and me both.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      What?!

    • RTIII

Complete bullshit. Presuming Assange’s lawyer really is dead, we can be damned sure it wasn’t suicide!

      Assassination!

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Wasn’t there someone trying to break in not long ago.

        • Nancy

          yes.

        • notisaidthepig

          $hillary must be nervous.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Her owners.

      • MsPythia

        It’s strange.

    • s k

      A drone train

      • notisaidthepig

        Indeed.

    • RTIII

“Assange is believed to be planning a strategic “October Surprise” leak of a Hillary Clinton email, just prior the US Presidential Election. It purportedly contains information that will definitively put her behind bars.”

Assuming so, they should have done it BEFORE the end of the Democratic Primary, DUMBASS!

    • MsPythia

I heard they may now treat the death as suspicious…?

      • MsPythia

Sounds like the hospital screwed up, or worse… Here’s a link:

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Sounds like he more than likely was under the influence of medication and someone “helped” him out.

          • MsPythia

It’s pretty suspicious. Normally you wouldn’t let someone wander around in his supposed condition.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

And there’s usually security and nurses wandering about.

          • MsPythia

There is absolutely no reason that I can see why he wouldn’t have been accompanied by someone else. They had to know this wasn’t a good idea. And sorry, but I do have to wonder about this — they knew they’d just changed his medication.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Yeah, fishy.

          • MsPythia

            Yes indeed.

          • Nancy

            fuckers.

        • notisaidthepig

          I wonder….

          • towerofbabel

Meme engineering is what they do so….who knows anything anymore.

        • The_Fixer

It’s either suspicious, or at least a negligent death. It is clear that he was not reacting well to whatever medication that he was given. A couple of questions come to mind:

          1) Was the proper medication given?
          2) Was it tampered with?
          3) Was the medication prescribed appropriate for his particular condition?
          4) Is the staff involved squeaky-clean?

It could all be a coincidence. However, we have seen so much crooked bullshit go down that it could very well be a targeted killing. It’s a shame that we live in a world where this is even possible.

          • MsPythia

            I agree Fixer!

    • RTIII
      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

        That’s a pattern.

      • MsPythia

Yeah. And at first they said there was nothing about it suspicious because it was a clear case of suicide. But now that the facts around it have come out… It’s fishy as hell.

      • notisaidthepig

        Nah. Just a coincidence.
