Alan Parsons is an English audio engineer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He was involved with the production of several significant albums, including the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” and “Let It Be”, and the art rock band Ambrosia’s debut album “Ambrosia” as well as Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” for which Pink Floyd credit him as an important contributor. Parsons’ own group, the Alan Parsons Project, as well as his subsequent solo recordings, have also been successful commercially.

Although I don’t necessarily “feature” bands, The Alan Parsons Project is who I’m jammin’ to tonight. Play as you wish, but please remember the rules: No Stairway and no Freebird. Violators WILL be prosecuted.

    Glad you enjoyed them! Only reason I’ve heard of them is David Eugene Edwards (of Wovenhand – one of my alltime favorites) did a song with them a while back. Fell in love with them. They’ve never crossed over the Atlantic Ocean (literally) but have a decent following in Europe.

        Well, it was the 90’s and I was an arty teen in the Northwest so it was mandatory I considered anyone with any mainstream success to be a total sell-out phony. 🙂
        
        Funny enough, that concert helped get me past that narrow view. I was like, “wow, that guy is awesome!”. Then I started giving bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Alice in Chains a listen and finally opened up to the possibility of popular music being good sometimes.

The only modern Christian band I like… and I love this band. Like, love to a fanatic level and listen to more than any other band in my music collection. Also, probably the only Christian band to headline death metal shows in Eastern Europe.

David Eugene Edwards is the mastermind of all the songs, is pretty much a crazy person raised on Apocalyptic paranoia by his preacher father. Along with the religious songs of his youth, his music draws inspirations from Native America rhythms, Eastern European folk music, and classic American folk. But, he infuses some serious hard rock into it along with an energy like no other.

Seriously, give this guy a try. You won’t be disappointed.

    This guy is a lot different from Christian bands of the general sense. I’d put him more along the likes of the old time artists that sand about their religion because it was their life, not because it was a marketing gimmick. Sorta like a Johnny Cash or Leadbelly. Heck, he does a great cover of Rasputina’s song “Signs of the Zodiac” about wiccan healers.
    
    He also doesn’t do Christian music fest or any of that crap. He just makes amazing music that happens to have songs with some religious themes. And, other times just great storytelling with poetic lyrics that aren’t religious too.

    They are a special breed. My favorite album to listen to is still Transmutation but this one is such a unique beauty of chaos it’s my favorite.
    
    I’m pretty much just a big ol’ fanboy for Bill Laswell. His work is hit and miss but he’s always trying something different which I love about him. He’s a huge inspiration for me as an artist.

        I wouldn’t blame you if you hated them. They’re a real oddity. Not many people who I’ve played them for seem to feel the same way I do. Though, a few have really gotten into them. I think that goes for a lot of the fringe and experimental stuff out there though. Groups like Can and artists like Jim O’Rourke I just never got into, but they’re loved and respected by many. But, I respect those who challenge the norm and do something crazy with no regard for appealing to audiences. I rarely have that kind of courage as an artist.
