475845398_5e971118c8_bJust a short note on posting formats: We’re going to start featuring a daily link-collection, with our Open Threads. Other features, such as “Saturday Sci-Fi” will stop being open threads and be their own creature.

If you thought patent abuse couldn’t go any farther than patenting the wheel, you’d be wrong! The EFF’s “Stupid Design Patent of the Month” presents us with, Rectangles on a Screen!

Ron Chusid points out that the candidates of our Ruling-class parties are so bad that even corporate media outlets like news papers are starting to find the other parties more acceptable. Of course, these are corporate media outlets, so their picks are the moronic Gary Johnson, but it’s still a step away from the rotten center.

Since the seemingly impossible happened, lawyers for the families of those killed in 9/11 are hurriedly filing lawsuits, before congress gets cold feet.

Germany is known for it’s classic fairy-tales. It looks like they’ve been creating new fairy-tales.

The Atlantic lays bare the Saudi’s close relationship, partnership really, with Wahhabist terror groups, while pretending that that relationship is “Murky.”

Just in case you were tempted to believe the kabuki that insurers were “leaving Obamacare,” now you know they were always going to get the corporate-welfare increases for which they were throwing their tantrums.

And speaking of Uncle Tom’s betrayals, despite his previous big show about private prisons, the Bureau Of Prisons has renewed a private-prison contract, in Georgia. Obama lied? There’s a big surprise!

The Real News Network’s William Black is at the top of his game, as he tells us How Wells Fargo Keeps Scamming Its Customers & Employees.

Elon Musk is, once again, doing his patented razzle-dazzle about colonizing Mars. Over at Ars Technica, Andy Weir, the author of The Martian, lays the scientific smack-down on the science of Musk’s vision.

The sexual habits of the ultra-rich, like everything else is their lives, is highly twisted.

Lastly, here’s a video with some overlooked aspects of the Space Shuttle,  from the “A Quick Perspective” channel on YouTube. And here’s some images, not deemed worthy for use in their videos.

Settlement After Inmate Starved To Death, Found In Feces With Rubber Band Around Genitals

The settlement, which is the largest the city has ever paid out over the death of an inmate, was agreed to on Tuesday by the de Blasio administration. Attorney Debbie Greenberger called the amount “historic” but said the “stunning and unconscionable” suffering experienced by Bradley could never be matched.

Attorney Greenberger said that officers involved in the incident still have jobs, that none of them faced any “significant salary consequences,” and that at least two of them have received promotions.

Newly Released Footage Reveals Avoidable Death of Six Year Old

On November 3, 2015, Officer Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Lt. Derrick Stafford fired 18 shots into a vehicle they had been pursuing. Six-year-old Jeremy Mardis was hit five times, and was pronounced dead at the scene. His father, Christopher Few, was wounded, but survived.

It took the officers seven minutes after the shooting to check on Chris & Jeremy. Had they checked sooner, they would have discovered Jeremy was alive. Officer Kenneth Parnell III, can be heard saying “Oh my God.
He has a pulse. It’s weak.” Let me repeat that, Jeremy still had a pulse, seven minutes after the shooting. He was not dead- he was dying from his wounds. And the officers did NOTHING. They did NOTHING to try
to save this little boy that they just shot. They did not call the EMTs. They did not try to stop the bleeding. They did not act frantic to help him. They stood around conversing and let a six year old die.

Just short of a year later, the officers have been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.

Five EFF Tools to Help You Protect Yourself Online

Do you get creeped out when an ad eerily related to your recent Internet activity seems to follow you around the web? Do you ever wonder why you sometimes see a green lock with “https” in your address bar, and other times just plain “http”? EFF’s team of technologists and computer scientists can help. We engineer solutions to these problems of sneaky tracking, inconsistent encryption, and more. Our projects are released
under free and open source licenses like the GNU General Public License or Creative Commons licenses,
and we make them freely available to as many users as possible. Where users face threats to their free expression, privacy, and security online, EFF’s technology projects are there to defend them.

    • I’m especially fond of HTTPS Everywhere and Privacy Badger. They rock my world!

Ya got anything in your bag of tricks to remove the Zeus virus?

      • You can download a demo for an anti-virus tool, like Kaspersky, or you can follow the “Manual Removal” steps outlined here. Note: I can’t vouch for the safety of the “cleaner” application at that link, but the manual instructions look right.

I suggest getting the Kaspersky trial version.

        • panem et circenses

Not specifically for Zeus virus, but you could also try using the free trial of HitmanPro if you haven’t done so before. It’s pretty thorough. Use it alongside your other antivirus software. RogueKiller is also good for removing any leftover bits.

        • SmotPoker

I’ve used Kaspersky in the past when I was still doing the torrent thing when I could get keys for it all the time. I’ll give it a shot with the free trial. I suspect I might have to check out that HitmanPro Panem mentions.

          • I like Kaspersky because, after you uninstall it, you can get it to install as a trial again, after 90 days. 3:)

Last week I noticed a couple spots where my hair appears to be thinning, and I’ve trouble coming to terms with the very real possibility that hair loss might be setting in. My hair is really thick and wavy so it came as a bit of a shock. Instead of fretting about it I should probably just make an appointment at a dermatologist and see what’s what.

Thing is, I’ve always hated my hair. If I don’t keep it cut short, it’s a curly, unkempt, unmanageable mess that resists even the gallons of mousse my parents used to weight it down. My classmates used to mock me for having a “jewfro” and not realizing it was out of style. If it gets too bad I’ll just get a buzz cut or shave my head entirely! All problems solved at once. Like my friend told me, most of my favorite actors or bald or shaved. 😛

    • Mine’s been thinning for a few years now. I’ve started just shaving it off. “Bald Is Beautiful!”

      • SmotPoker

“Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourselves that….” – Men that still have their hair

        • LOL. I like the solution, really. No more expensive trips to the barber, spending WAY less of shampoo and such. And girls like to rub it… Hubba-Hubba!

          • SmotPoker

Mines thinned around the temple area, but that’s due strictly to thighs rubbing against it over the years…..

          • Blue Basilisk

Haha. Caring for my hair is such a pain in the butt. What I dread is ending up with the “power donut.” Or as I like to think of it, the “Montgomery Burns toilet seat.”

I’m probably stressing out unnecessarily. I do that. 😛

Cops brutally arrest a black man sitting on his own porch for no goddamn reason. Cops resign rather than face firing, and no charges brought up because, get this, the DA doesn’t want to “rehash” the case.

Motherfucker, tell you what. We can rehash it in criminal court trying these asshole cops or we can rehash in civil court as I take this city for every goddamn penny they have. How’s that settle your fucking hash assholes?

A look back at what Snowden told the world about the U.S.-Israel relationship

Snowden has sparked a fierce debate in the U.S. over the NSA’s mass surveillance of citizens. But he also revealed a great deal about the U.S.-Israeli relationship. Snowden’s leaks provide an unprecedented look at how the U.S. and Israel share intelligence, and also reveal the tensions in the relationship.

With Snowden back in the news, Mondoweiss reviews what he told the world about the U.S.-Israel
relationship. Here is a look at those revelations.

Wars, Killings, and the Greatest Country Ever Created

The world is lectured frequently by the United States of America — the One Indispensable Nation —
about how to behave, on the grounds that, as President Obama declared, “from London and Prague, to Tokyo and Seoul, to Rio and Jakarta… there is a new confidence in our leadership”.

He didn’t mention Amman, Baghdad, Beijing, Beirut, Caracas or the capitals of so many other countries in
which the majority of citizens, according to the Pew Research Centre and other pollsters such as Marketwatch, regard the United States as an aggressive and malign manipulator of world affairs.

Besides, he’s lying (and/or clueless). You can’t go anywhere without people talking about the American Empire and worrying about how evil it has become. Maybe because the prez only rubs elbows with zillionaires and state officials and not the average working stiff who kknows they are being shafted.

Why Does U.S. Gov’t. Donate $38B to an Enemy Nation?

On September 13th, the AP headlined ‘Israel to get $38 billion in US military aid over 10 years’, and
they called that “the largest batch of military assistance the U.S. has ever pledged to another country”. This money is donated, instead of anything being sold to Israel: it comes from U.S. taxpayers, and is a commitment regardless of whether Israel continues to violate the Camp David peace accords (such as by building illegal settlements) or any other treaty or international law.

Thus, the question here is, very simply: Why?

The US Propaganda Shams Now Openly Fail

The Obama administration, and especially the CIA and the State Department, seem to be in trouble. They shout everything they can against Russia and allege that the cleansing of east-Aleppo of al-Qaeda
terrorist is genocidal. Meanwhile no mention is ever made of the famine of the Houthis in Yemen which the U.S. and Saudi bombing and their blockade directly causes.

But more and more major news accounts support the Russian allegation that the “moderate rebels” the U.S. is coddling in Syria are actually in cahoots with al-Qaeda if not al-Qaeda itself.

Al-Qaeda Commander: US Forces Are Arming Us In Syria

The State Department moved quickly to deny a Syrian rebel commander’s recent allegations that the United States is offering arms and military equipment to extremist groups in the Syrian civil war.

On Monday, German newspaper Köelner Stadt-Anzeiger published an interview with Abu Al Ezz, a commander in the Nusra Front, in which he claimed that the United States offers indirect support to his group by sending equipment and aid via allied countries.

**I’ve been saying this and more all along, and have been called every name in the fuckin’ book. Now it appears that me and this guy are conspiracy loons.**

Oops: “Misdirected” US Drone Strike in Somalia Kills 22, Including Civilians

In what the US is calling a “misdirected” airstrike, some 22 Somali citizens and soldiers were killed by a US missile fired from a drone intended to take out al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabab militia members. According to the BBC, the airstrike may have been a ruse by one region in Somalia seeking to settle scores with another courtesy of US military might: “Officials in the semi-autonomous region of Galmudug accused neighboring Puntland of misleading the US into believing they had targeted extremists.”

**What the fuck? Do they just go flying around the world and commit murders anywhere at the request of anyone? If that’s the case…my neighbor’s dog’s been digging holes in my backyard. I think he’s stashing weapons.**

PA mayor urged to resign over Obama ‘lynching’ posts (PICTURES)

A mayor in Pennsylvania is being urged to step down after posting a series of racist Facebook messages suggesting President Barack Obama should be lynched and depicting him and his family as orangutans.

The Republican mayor of West York borough Charles Wasko will be formally asked to resign Monday by the local council after the racist remarks sparked petitions and a public outcry.

Wasko’s remarks were made over several months but only came to the forefront in recent weeks as his posts attracted national attention.

Teen accused of stealing 65-cent carton of milk at middle school to face trial

The case of the allegedly stolen milk is an example of the challenges students, schools and school resource officers face when it comes to the issue of discipline, especially when it involves students who are minorities and living in poverty. Studies show that black students are subject to more frequent — and harsher — discipline than their peers, and that there are biases against them that begin as early as pre-kindergarten classes. Black students in Richmond recently filed a civil rights complaint against their school district, alleging that discipline practices there are unfair.

After 50 years, during a devastating drought, Roseburg Forest Products is telling Weed, California to find another source of water. This is what neoliberal policies look like. Roseburg is bottling the water and selling it to Japan instead of taking care of local residents where the water resides. Just kind of fucked up.

Timber Company Tells California Town, Go Find Your Own Water

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/timber-company-tells-california-town-go-find-your-own-water/ar-BBwSKpQ?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp

For the past 50 years, the company charged the city $1 a year for use of water from the Beaughan Spring. As of July, it began charging $97,500 annually. A contract signed this year directs the city to look for alternative sources.

    • The city should just pass an ordinance making provision of spring water the purview of the city council, then deny the company its use. Or, better yet, pass whatever legislation is needed to put the company out of business.

C’mon Weed, put on your big-girl panties!

      • Dosido3

would that work even if the spring is on company-owned land?

        • I’m sure they could Jerry-Rig some legislation that would do the job. 😀

          • Dosido3

oh, hang on. I think Roseburg is kind of holding the water hostage…Weed claims that the previous owner of the land gave them the water rights in 1982 and have a document to prove it. They could also claim eminent domain (which is where my mind was headed). But it would take a court battle to settle it and it’s the rich guy against the poor town. Not good. Not good at all.

          • towerofbabel

We are going to see this over and over again as corporations devour every last inch of the public realm only to sell it back to us a a huge cost. Local, basic-needs are an excellent place for monopoly capitalism.

Trump Jumps on Leaked Audio From Hillary Clinton Fund raiser

Audio of Hillary Clinton addressing donors at a Virginia fund raiser back in February has surfaced and is gaining attention because of how she describes Bernie Sanders’ supporters, and Donald Trump and his campaign have jumped on the story in an effort to bring Sanders backers to their side. “Some are new to politics completely. They’re children of the Great Recession. And they are living in their parents’ basement,” Clinton said at the home of former U.S. Ambassador Beatrice Welters. “They feel they got their education and the jobs that are available to them are not at all what they envisioned for themselves. And they don’t see much of a future.” The audio, released by the Free Beacon, was recorded … http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-jumps-leaked-audio-hillary-clinton-fundraiser/story?id=42499760&yptr=yahoo

Gee, I can’t imagine why millennials would feel that way. It’s almost like we were indoctrinated with the idea that you have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a good education for a good job and then entered a work force where most of the high paying jobs had been outsourced and the remaining ones can’t match the standard of living unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth.
