Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Morning gang. Daily Beast called the snooze fest the Thrilla in Vanilla. 🙂

  • Well, there’s no surprise: Jill Stein is currently the runaway winner in our presidential poll.

    • Edwin

      (and I didn’t vote)

Am I from the future, or is Unka stuck in Tuesday?

    • Edwin

I am from the future. It’s Thursday, gall darn it!

      • 17

Our bestest buddy tried to start an argument with herself this morning, but apparently ran out of material quickly.

        • Edwin

Hmmm… I don’t usually go over there any more.

The police have not yet arrived at my door, nor have there been SWAT teams in my street. I guess she was drunken bluffing again.

          • 17

The wheels of justice move slower when tracking down an international crime kingpin such as yourself.

          • Edwin

Hello, hello. Is this the Korean police? Some Canadian guy in Seoul sent me an email in Florida and he called me a drunk and a douchebag (and probably the c-word, but I forget now) and I want him arrested and put in jail immediately, m’kay.

    • I’m stuck at the office, that’s for sure. LOLSAD

5 Stories the Media Ignored While Reporting on the Kim Kardashian Robbery

One of the saving graces of the ailing corporate media — for the folks setting the agenda, anyhow — is its relentless ability to hyper-focus the public’s attention on altogether meaningless events.

Take, for instance, an armed robbery that sees property stolen but no one harmed. Such an event is unfortunate, yes, but such is life. People get robbed. It certainly isn’t something that should consume the news cycle — particularly when developments of actual importance are unfolding around the world.

    • Dosido3

Frankly, KK is such a publicity whore I really have trouble believing this shit. Her show just got cancelled. So I take it as a test of the media machine.

Even if it’s true, yes, scary! But she doesn’t need me to be part of her support network.

Britain to Allow Troops to Opt Out of Human Rights Law

Britain announced plans to allow its soldiers to opt out of European human rights law, in a move Prime Minister Theresa May said would end “the industry of vexatious claims” against troops.

**Police unions all across America are slapping their foreheads wondering why they didn’t think of this first**

    • Dosido3

      What. In. The. Hell.

    • panem et circenses

Fuck politicians, wars and the militaries who fight them. There’s no justification in having the right to kill someone because they wear a different uniform or speak a different language or simply because they’re in an area you’ve declared your battlefield. Civilians don’t have a justifiable right to kill others simply because of where they are if they aren’t posing an unavoidable threat to your safety. Governments who hold a monopoly on violence are held to a much lower moral and ethical standard, though, and for some reason idiots around the world are okay with that.

    The NYT’s Neocon ‘Downward Spiral’

The New York Times’ downward spiral into a neoconservative propaganda sheet continues with another biased lead article, this one on how the Syrian war has heightened U.S.-Russia tensions. The article, bristling with blame for the Russians, leaves out one of the key reasons why the partial ceasefire failed – the U.S. inability to separate its “moderate” rebels from Al Qaeda’s jihadists.

The article, written by Michael R. Gordon and Andrew E. Kramer (two of the paper’s top national security propagandists), lays the fault for the U.S. withdrawal from Syrian peace talks on Russian leaders because of their “mistrust and hostility toward the United States,” citing a comment by former White House official Andrew S. Weiss.

    • panem et circenses

Is it really a downward spiral rather than a lateral move? Has the NYT ever been non-reactionary propaganda?

    • kreskin

Without exception , those in U.S. / western mainstream media are serving as government propagandists .

How long before they cut us off from RT , Consortium and the like ?

Snowden 2.0: NSA contractor arrested for stealing malware

The contractor’s name is Hal Martin, and he is a Navy veteran, said the Baltimore Sun reporter Ian Duncan citing the man’s attorney. Martin worked for Booz Allan Hamilton, the same company that used to employ
Snowden, before he blew the lid on NSA operations in 2013.

Among the materials were “six classified documents obtained from sensitive intelligence and produced by a government agency in 2014,” the DOJ said. The documents, classified Top Secret, were “produced through sensitive government sources, methods and capabilities, which are critical to a variety of national security issues.”

Martin is being charged with “unauthorized removal and retention of classified materials,” which carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, and theft of government property in excess of $1,000, for which the maximum penalty is 10 years.

Hillary takes a totally unscripted, spontaneous, (and surprise) question from this actor planted in the audience, Brennan.

    • cathyx

As an actress, she faces body image issues daily, and she just wanted to know where hillary stood this issue. That’s what the hilbots will tell you.

      • Edwin

        The plot thickens.

At a Hillary Clinton town hall yesterday in Haverford, Pennsylvania, a 15 year old girl was supposedly “chosen at random” to ask a question of the former Secretary of State. But, the well-scripted performance raised some suspicion with a YouTuber named Spanglevision who decided to dig a little deeper. And, wouldn’t you know it, the “random” participant was none other than child actor, Brennan Leach, whose father just happens to be Pennsylvania democratic State Senator Daylin Leach. Oh, and in case it wasn’t obvious, Daylin supports Hillary for president…shocking.

        Spanglevision’s vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEqU71k0zAc

        • cathyx

They’re total morons. It could not have been difficult to hire some random actress instead of a State Senator’s daughter.

          • SmotPoker

            Nepotism

        • towerofbabel

Madam Secretary, I’ld like to ask you a spontaneous scripted question…

    • EdgarHF

Hip waders required for this Q&A

    • MsPythia

Everything she does is fake and scripted. She has to plant bullshit questions about ‘body image’ because she wants to avoid questions about real issues that the American people are facing. She has no intention of doing anything for the American people and will do the bidding of the 1%, so she needs bullshit time-filling whiny feminist questions like this to demonize Trump. It’s pathetic.

This is scary stuff. Don’t mess with Mother Nature. Oh, wait. We already have. 🙁

    • Isn’t there also some storm hitting Florida and the Carolinas, right now?

      • Edwin

        Yes.

I think it is the time of year, but these storms seem to be getting very serious anymore.

        • notisaidthepig

Hurricane season ends in November. These storms seem to be a wee bit late in the season. This is all about warm waters. As the temperature drops, these storms will disappear. But with climate change upon us, temperatures remain high….

There is just 1 problem with that Noti, there is NOT enough doctors to give everyone a high quality care! I am already dealing with 3 to 5 months to wait for a specialist i NEED NOW. They have artificially limited supply to keep the riffraff out of becoming a doctor. We are so short on both doctors and nurses and specialists that it would NOT be high quality care! People will die waiting for a damned specialist.

Put another way: we need awesome rockets to get to Mars, but we need environmental science if we’re going to stay there. Colonization requires us to settle—actually settle, like my ancestors did in the 19th century wilds of Texas—in an alien ecosystem. For all we know, that ecosystem might be teeming with life. Unfortunately, colonization also requires us to destroy that alien ecosystem and replace it with one we prefer.

This is where we run headlong into the moral quandaries of our future space adventures. We can use existing environmental science to understand the nature of these quandaries. But to prepare for the ethical issues involved, it helps to have some science fiction.

I SUPPORT THE HEROES THAT ROBBED KIM KARDASHIAN

    http://greedmedia.com/i-support-heroes-that-robbed-kim-kardashian2/

I doubt her robbers were class conscious heroes, but I have no sympathy for the loss of some ornaments worth more than most will make in our lifetimes. Hopefully they get away with it, but I doubt it. The entire system is set up to protect capitalist class members like Kim K, and there’s no doubt a huge amount of resources going into investigating her lost trinkets, while the rest of us are lucky if a cop shows up and jots down a few lines in a notebook before forgetting all about us.
