When You Buy a House But Don’t Actually Own It
    http://www.vice.com/read/when-you-buy-a-house-but-dont-actually-own-it

    • Well, we were all warned this would happen, back in 2008. It’s why I’ve told people buying property, for decades, if going to be a crap-shoot. I feel for these folks, but I don’t think there’s much they can do: The agreed to the rules of this rigged game.

      • Dosido3

I’m glad there’s someone like David Dayen to continue to keep tabs on this never ending crisis. It’s not over.

        • D-Day has been a rock, and one of my favorite journalists for almost two decades now.

    • Shohanna

I am so glad mine is in a condo! O.o They can’t “rework” the deed, and we had 3 different people verify the condo. So, yeah, I am really happy about that. I don’t do yard work, or even the outside, roof etc. They do, I am responsible for the inside. 😀

    • Edwin

Don’t people go to a lawyer, have a title search done, and hire a surveyor before they close the deal? That’s standard practice in Canada.

      • Shohanna

We have to have title searches here, takes 6 weeks and you can’t close on the house until there is one.

        • Edwin

Maybe the lawyer did a sloppy job.

          • Shohanna

That’s what I was thinking. B/c every house I have been involved in requires a title search, it’s SOP.

      • Dosido3

I think here in California it is the job of the title company. If you read the piece, the title company is putting all that on the insured.

        • Edwin

Your system might be a bit different. We go to a lawyer who either searches the title him/herself, or farms it out to a paralegal. Then the lawyer reviews it and closes the deal with the other lawyer who has also reviewed the search. These things should not happen.

          • Dosido3

This may happen for a trusts and estate attorney vetting/transferring the property assets of a client, etc. I know other states have lawyers handle real estate transactions … We have real estate agents and title and escrow companies, etc., for sales transactions.

        • cathyx

Oregon too, the title company would be held liable if this happened here.

  • Dosido3

Say it ain’t so, Joe! It’s about time the Feds did something about this creep. But don’t kid yourself…his voters love his fascist ways.

    • It’s really just a couple places in the county (read: Sun City/SC West) that have kept him in office (often by the thinnest of margins). Lots of folks here hate the man with a passion, unfortunately, like nationally, too many of them don’t vote.

      • Dosido3

That’s crazy that they don’t vote him out. The man is a lunatic.

        • Oh, I agree. But, just look at the national stage: Americans, as a whole, have lost their moral compass, when it comes to politics.

          • Dosido3

That’s for damn sure. I’m off to read GG now. I’m of the opinion that the fake “bucket of losers” transcript may be a false flag op to damage credibility of Wikileaks’ Podesta email dump.

          • Edwin

Don’t open anything post marked Russia! You might go Ka-Boom.

          • Dosido3

lol, No worries! My friend Donna points out Boris and Natasha when needed and I trust her!! If she says “see no evil” well, good enough for this partisan! /s

          • That’s what I think as well.

  • Dosido3

Good take down by Glennzilla. I disagree about journalists “falling for the scam” because they are convinced of the righteousness of their cause, however. They are part and parcel of the Clinton scam machine, fgs. The overriding strategy is to damage Wikileaks credibility. And install Queen Hillary. Period.

Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter Provided Data Access for a Surveillance Product Marketed to Target Activists of Color

Social media monitoring is spreading fast and is a powerful example of surveillance technology that can disproportionately impact communities of color. Using Geofeedia’s analytics and search capabilities and
following the recommendations in their marketing materials, law enforcement in places like Oakland, Denver, and Seattle could easily target neighborhoods where people of color live, monitor hashtags used by activists and allies, or target activist groups as “overt threats.” We know for a fact that in Oakland and Baltimore, law enforcement has used Geofeedia to monitor protests.

Was Roanoke Officer Najee Tynes Murdered by a Fellow Cop?

Najee Tynes, a 29-year old married father and Airforce veteran, with just under five years of service as an officer with the Roanoke Police Department, was found dead of a gunshot wound in a bathroom at the police station on the evening of July 27, 2016.

The story seemed peculiar at the time, and the scant details that have come afterwards are even more so. According to reports, Tynes had asked for a new bulletproof vest before allegedly going into the men’s
bathroom and killing himself. And, according to a screenshot taken from Tyne’s Facebook account, he’d posted an ominous status update a mere four hours before his death.

California scholars decry ‘assault on academic freedom in the interest of one foreign gov’t, Israel’

Well-funded interest groups outside of the university, including AMCHA, Campus Watch, Louis D. Brandeis Center, Anti-Defamation League, Zionist Organization of America, the David Horowitz Freedom Center, the Canary Mission Website, the Middle East Forum, and the David Project Center for Jewish Leadership have kept up a continuous effort to silence open debate about a controversial issue: the Israeli occupation and Palestinian rights. It is worth noting that two of the main proponents of these organizations, David Horowitz and Daniel Pipes, were named as leading Islamophobes by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The US government has been funding AI for 50 years, and just came up with a plan for its future

In two official reports today, the White House outlined its strategy for promoting artificial intelligence research and development in the US. While most of the bigger questions were punted to future legislators (“more research is needed” is a key phrase), the executive branch did draw some lines in the sand. And most importantly to the research community, the White House is not pushing for AI to be broadly regulated—instead, the use of the technology will be held to specific standards in the automotive, aviation, and finance industries.

Whether to Go to War Against Russia Is Top Issue in US Presidential Race

The United States government has already declared that in regards to what it alleges to be a Russian cyberattack against the U.S. Democratic Party, the U.S. reserves the right to go to war against Russia. NATO has accordingly changed its policy so as to assert that a cyberattack (in this case actually cyber-espionage,
such as the U.S. government itself perpetrates against even its own allies such as Angela Merkel by tapping her phone) constitutes an act of war by the alleged cyberattacker, and so requires all NATO member nations to join any cyberattacked NATO nation in war against its alleged (cyber)attacker, if the cyberattacked member declares war against its alleged cyberattacker. Excuses are being sought for a war against Russia; and expanding the definition of «invasion», to include mere espionage, is one such excuse. But it’s not the only one that the Obama Administration has cooked up.

Here’s Why Haitians Are Urging You Not To Donate To The Red Cross

    Haitians are fed up.

As the death toll in Haiti following Hurricane Matthew reaches 1,000 and 1.4 million people are left “in need of humanitarian assistance,” reports of deadly cholera outbreaks are beginning to concern aid groups. But despite the desperate pleas for helpcoming from the hurricane-torn island nation, some Haitians are not
thrilled about the presence of scandal-ridden organizations such as the American Red Cross (ARC) — or even the Clinton Foundation — in their country.

Thanks to a 2015 report exposing ARC for its poor management of Haiti-bound donations, Haitians like Facebook user French Francois have been urging the public to steer clear from the 135-year-old foundation. Instead, she wants individuals willing to help to reach out to Haitian organizations instead.

If you are donating money, watch out for shysters!

    Glenn Greenwald

    To
    Edwin (Ted)

    Message body Ted
    – really appreciate that. Some C&L commenters have been sending me
comments from some posters there – mostly Nicole Belle – claiming that
she knows my secret “agenda” — which, like Joe McCarthy, she never
reveals — because she was responsible for starting my “career.” I
found that really amusing given that I have never heard of this person
before, yet she runs around claiming special knowledge of my undisclosed
motives based on imaginary work she did in starting my writing career.

This is just all par for the partisan course, of course – Party heretics must be punished and smeared – keep fighting it –

Thinking About Voting? Read This First

Like all mystic rituals, the ritual of voting is based on superstition. Like an incantation or a rain dance, it is based on the superstition that great good can come of a mere gesture. Just as the rain dancer thinks he can summon rain that will save his crops, the voter thinks he can summon reform that will save his country.

Syrian Army to Receive Panstir-S Air Defense Systems to End US Air Threat Against Syria

The Syrian military will receive a batch of Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon systems, according to reports in Russian media outlets. Sources in military-diplomatic circles say that the systems will be delivered under the Russian-Syrian deal made in 2008. Details of the deal have not been revealed. Nonetheless, experts believe that the delivery of 36-50 systems and 700 missiles for them could be expected. The reason of the decision is a growing threat to deliver military strikes on the government forces by the US-led coalition.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Defense Ministry confirmed that it will use all military means to repel the US aggression.

I would be curious to see the difference between Trump and Cosby accusers. I think both of them are scum that have gotten away with their behavior for years due to their stature. This whole thing is mind boggling.

    • Edwin

      LOL

(I guess it’s not funny. Weird they all waited until 20 days before the election to come forward– all at once.)

      • notisaidthepig

        See my comment above.

        • Edwin

It’s amazing how a little ca$hola can cause one to embellish their memory of what happened (or lie). Clinton is passing the stuff out like it’s candy. Already spent $6 million on low-grade trolls.

If they had come forward last January, but oddly they all waited til 20 days before the vote.

          • notisaidthepig

I was listening to a clip on Democracy Now this morning and there was this Muslim woman outraged about Trump and his treatment of women. I agree. I’d like to see someone ask her about $hillary’s treatment of women and children in Syria and Honduras…for starters. Will she be as outraged?

Shouldn’t she be supporting someone else besides these two horrible and disgusting establishment candidates? Somehow I doubt it.

          • Edwin

We must remember this “election” is really a reality TV show and I bet there are more actors to pop up before anyone crosses the finish line.

          • notisaidthepig

Oh, I have no doubt we are about to go into a frenzy these final weeks. I’m already exhausted and wish this farce was behind us. ALL I want is for Stein to reach the 5% threshold so the Greens can get federal funding for the next cycle. Shit is going to get WAY more real next time. Oink!

          • Edwin

This election has been sickening and everyone who has been involved in it should just kill themselves. I hate them all.

(Minus a few obvious goodies, like Jimmy Dore, Jill Stein, Jordan Chariton and the like.)

The MSM and both parties can go jump off a cliff and take Karoli with them. ^_^

          • notisaidthepig

            Not Jill and Baraka! 😉

(I feel exactly the same way.)

          • Edwin

            see edit. 😀

          • notisaidthepig

Nice. I’ve got to run, Edwin. Have a good evening.

          • Edwin

            See you later.

          • Shohanna

Don’t forget Haiti, they have been put through the ringer and I doubt that fucking Foundation did anything to help them. Even the “American Red Cross” is being protested against in Haiti because of it’s “NON HELP”. The messages I read this morning / last night begged people to donate to charities based in Haiti if they want their donations to actually help.

    • Edwin
      • kreskin

You can count on it . Same as they did Bill Cosby . Guilty , no doubt , but probably half of his accusers are frauds.

      • panem et circenses

Are you seriously implying that every one of these women are making up their allegations that “grab her by the pussy” man assaulted them?

        • Edwin

          No. Did I say that?

          • panem et circenses

You posted a picture of a well known hoax. That’s why it’s an implication rather than a statement, hence me using the word “implying”.

          • Edwin

Who knows what will happen? Crazy things happen.

        • Annaleigh

Not directed at you, just have to say it: If people feel like Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Wiley, et. al, deserve to be heard and believed, you must apply that same standard to Trump’s accusers, no matter how much you hate the Clintons. Otherwise it’s more use and abuse of sexual assault survivors (and possible sexual assault survivors) for political gain for which ever team is being cheered for.

I get more and more disgusted by this election every day.

    • notisaidthepig

Why can’t I muster any outrage for this? I mean I think what he did is reprehensible and he should be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But we all know that probably doesn’t mean anything when it comes to rich people because of our two-tier justice system. What about $hillary? Hasn’t she done worse things? Where’s the outrage for that? Sigh.

  • notisaidthepig
