Good morning, Unka. Frank Zappa. So amazing.

    • EdgarHF

When I saw the Zappa pic I thought Toaster or Dumbshark had taken over. Whew!

      • LOL

      • Edwin

        Dumbshark

        someone I know?

        • EdgarHF

          Ol’ Mudsmuck

          • Edwin

I didn’t want to jump to any conclusions. At one time mudshark was a decent guy, but something happened and he turned into a complete fucking asshole. In the last 18 months or so (in the old country) he took to attacking me almost without fail. He’d show up and take the opposite side of whatever I said and then get belligerent.

            Toaster?

          • EdgarHF

            Bootsie Wootsie

          • Edwin

I was thinking maybe him. Yeah, that fuckwad. He high-tailed it outta there the day Clinton lost. Musta bin his last day on the job.

          • kreskin

Something did happen / was goin on , he was a long time regular … a good guy , then he went berserk .

          • Edwin

Yeah. I found it became better just to ignore him, which is what I did.

  • Edwin
    • kreskin

LIke J.D. once said , reading all those books has made you stupid , Rachael !

    • EdgarHF

Gotta wait until I get home from work to watch this one.

      • Edwin

        Hi, Edgar.

        • EdgarHF

          Hey there Edwin!

    • EdgarHF

After finally getting to see I saw It was a good one.

    • notisaidthepig

      Maddow is worthless.

      • kreskin

Sarah Palin is more irritating to listen to , other than that … .

        • I think with Maddow it’s worse, because Maddow is clearly self-aware and actually used college as more than a party-train and (literally) beauty contest. In addition Maddow clearly and consciously knows what is moral/ethical and what is not and yet supports the immoral.

  • kreskin

Good one , Unka , very informative . I used to read the Exile when Ames and company were in Moscow . • Too soon, I’m afraid. But i suspect their control will be more subtle than we like to think. Most people are already herded into easy-to-target holding area, like FB, Twitter, Instagram, Disqus… and TPTB need only blanket those outlets, to create false-beliefs in peoples’ minds.

  • SmotPoker
    • Such a baby, Mine are being assholes, tonight. I’m about to speak meanly to them.

      • SmotPoker

I was watching tv when I hear the crunching sound I normally associate with my little Yorkie eating his food, but he was in my chair with me, I look over at his dish, and the grand old boy himself was happily munching away at the dogs food despite having a full bowl of his own cat food available to him. It’s crazy because they all get high quality food. I don’t skimp on it for them. Fuckers eat better than I do to be honest.

  • EdgarHF

“The Blind Spots of Liberalism. What an impoverished small town tells us about the dangers of not taking class seriously.”

This article rings very true. The same can be said about many inner city neighborhoods and poorer burbs. The trashing of the working class is what finally made me leave the Democratic Party. I have no regard whatsoever for the duopoly parties, but I although I would never vote GOP, and now Democratic at least the GOP is partially honest about how they are going to fuck you.

Fuck you, dude. Welcome to the world you pretended didn’t exist while you wore your hero costume:

Retired New York Jail Guard Treated Like “Just Another Black Dude” by Brothers in Blue

Ronald Lanier, a retired New York corrections officer, cried heavily during a press conference as he described how he discovered the hard way that All Lives Don’t Matter to police. In fact, All Blue Lives aren’t even guaranteed to matter when his Brothers in Blue are in search of someone matching the description of “some black guy.” (Obviously, in such situations jumping on the first black person you come across is the
most efficient option available to Police Heroes.)

Law Enforcement Uses Border Search Exception as Fourth Amendment Loophole

In recent months, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents have sought access to private data on the cell phones of two journalists. Such incidents are offensive because they threaten the independence of the
press and pose specific risks to confidential sources. This government overreach also highlights how weak legal protections at the border for digital devices threatens the privacy of all travelers to and from the U.S., including Americans.

    ‘Dehumanizing’ Body-Cavity Search at School

An upstate New York school district is the focus of an alarming assault complaint that says school officials
pried open a student’s vagina and buttocks, and used a flashlight in a futile search for drugs.

“This is a first for Harrisville,” school nurse Kelly Avallone laughed, according to the complaint, during the vaginal examination.

End the war on drugs and fire the people at this school.

Don’t ya wanna see how far this police state shit goes before our peaceful protests kick in?

        • Edwin

I’m surprised Americans have let it go this far. At this point I’m just wondering what’s the incident that will light the powder keg.

          • 17

It wouldn’t have gotten this far if we’d stop listening to those who tell us that Ghandi and the ballot box will fix things.

Israel Wants to Pass Bill to Retroactively Legalize Criminal Settlements

The settlement bill, on the verge of passing through the Israeli parliament, is being considered by many outside observers (as well as right wing Israeli proponents) as what essentially amounts to annexation of a large portion of Palestinian land. The bill would legalize over 4,000 settlement homes already built on stolen Palestinian land.

      The USA will be silent.

      • 17

        Does it matter?

        • Edwin

The USA has power over Israel. It would matter. What would matter even more is if they threatened to cut off the $33 billion in “aid”, but that’s never gonna happen.

          • kreskin

Power over Israel ? No offense , but I think you’ve got it backwards , Edwin. When Nutinyahooo came to Washington to undercut Obama , who did our law makers choose , their President or Yahoo and the Israeli hard liners ? There was Pelosi and her pals , front row seats , applauding him ! Of course it was a heart wrenching decision … the phony high society gas bag cried about it . They shit on their President . Sanders was one of the few who had the balls to boycott Yahooo’s speech to Congress.

        • kreskin

          No .

‘Chase And Scatter’ Leaves Refugees For Dead In US-Mexico Borderlands

“Whether by pursuing individuals into rivers, over cliffs, or deep into the desert, what may be framed as a ‘never-ending game’ by agents on the ground contributes, in the end, to a disturbing pattern of state-sanctioned disappearance,” the report argues. Officials weaponize the expansive wilderness against refugees, concentrating enforcement and infrastructure around urban ports of entry to intentionally push
refugees to the backcountry, where the journey is far more dangerous.

‘Madness must end’: US lawmakers introduce bill to cut aid & funding for terrorists

American lawmakers have introduced a so-called Stop Arming Terrorists Act that aims to protect US taxpayers’ dollars from being spent on supporting and arming international terrorist groups through covert operations and third states.

Introduced to the House on Thursday by Democrat Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii, the legislature aims to put an end to the widely-reported US practice of indirectly sponsoring terrorism. In particular, the act seeks to make it illegal for any US government agency to assist extremist groups directly or indirectly in any way shape or form, be it through the sale of weapons, field training, or intelligence assistance.

***You’da thought there already was a law.***

    Big Media’s Contra-Cocaine Cover-up

Twelve years ago, a campaign of character assassination by the major U.S. newspapers drove an honest journalist to suicide. Now those papers claim to be paragons of truth-telling, says Robert Parry.

Georgia Says Someone in U.S. Government Tried to Hack State’s Computers Housing Voter DataThe department also considered declaring election systems “critical infrastructure,” which would have given the federal government additional authority to protect the systems. DHS didn’t take that step, however, as many states expressed concern about additional federal authority over their election systems and said the constitution provided states the right to run their own elections.

Trump Is Officially An Illegitimate President-Elect And The Democrats Have To Destroy Him
Republicans invented scorched earth obstructionism. The Democrats must perfect it if America is to survive as a democracy.

    http://thedailybanter.com/2016/12/donald-trump-illegitimate/

    • But when “our” politicians do the same thing, it is only “practical politics” and you should shut up and sit down, if America is to survive as a Democracy.

  • Dems, you did it to yourselves…

No, America, it wasn’t Russia: You did it to Yourself Clinton’s own polling people found the big turning point was when she called Trump voters a “basket of deplorables.” Americans don’t like being talked down to, and had already gotten rid of Romney for the same sin.

    • kreskin

I forget , what was Clinton’s excuse when she lost to Obama ? The Clinton camp and the DNC invented and used the Russian hackers ploy as a diversion to take the heat off of them .No surprise that Obama and the press would play along , is it ? The CIA would never lie , would they ?

Obama is appointing a special panel ? He’s going to launch an investigation ? Oh , this oughta be good . What the fuck have all our security agencies been doing ? They’ve been monitoring and investigating all a long , that’s what they’ve been doing . And guess what ? They have no solid evidence that links the Russians to these hacks , whether it be Russian individuals or the Russian government , they’ve nothing to back up the accusations.

      • towerofbabel

“What the fuck have all our security agencies been doing ?”
        What they have always been.

        • kreskin

I don’t think Obama knows what the hell he’s doing , a completely senseless and incoherent foreign policy that no one can figure out , comes out and says that he / the White House is confident in the election results and that monitoring agencies saw nothing out of the ordinary , now he’s calling for a special committee and an investigation to look into these allegations . The rest of the world damn well better be concerned , clearly they’re losing their minds in Washington.

          • towerofbabel

This is as generous as I can be, and I hope it’s deserved, but Obama seems like a person who still, fundamentally, knows right from wrong, but he is adrift in a profoundly pathological political milieu. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the courage to confront it directly so he tinkers around the edges of things. I hope I’m right about this but I think he is trying to stay out of war with Iran, but who knows? He probably thinks drone murders are less invasive that Bush/Cheney genocide. Or, Obama/Romney Care is better then Trump Care? It’s bad but could have been worse? I’m trying to be charitable.

          • kreskin

Honestly , Tower , I’ve thought the same thing . There is no consistency , in fighting between the departments / agencies , even insubordination , I’m not sure how much control he really has.

          • Edwin

I think Obama’s magic is that he is a continuation of bu$h II, but he is articulate and pretty enough we are still trying to believe he’s not that bad.

          • towerofbabel

This is what I’m watching later: Empires fight over Afghanistan. Might be interesting for you history buffs.

In episode one Rory Stewart tells the story of British interventions in
Afghanistan in the 19th century when the British became obsessed with
the idea that their rival, Russia expanding south, was considering the
invasion of Afghanistan as a staging post for an attack on British
India. It was a period of mutual suspicion and paranoia that later
became known as “The Great Game”. Stewart tells the story of explorer
and spy Alexander Burnes whose book when translated into French and read
by Russia alerted them to believe Britain was expanding north and then
Stewart relates the decision-making that led to the first British
invasion of Afghanistan and the three Anglo-Afghan wars fought in this
era. After the first world war an Afghan elite, led by King Amanullah
Khan, made a futile attempt to impose western inspired ideas and
modernity such as western dress and education of girls in a conservative
country that forced the king into exile.

Senate Quietly Passes The “Countering Disinformation And Propaganda Act”

In other words, the Act will i) greenlight the government to crack
down with impunity against any media property it deems “propaganda”, and
ii) provide substantial amounts of money fund an army of “local
journalist” counterpropaganda, to make sure the government’s own fake
news drowns that of the still free “fringes.”

So while packaged politely in a veneer of “countering disinformation and propaganda”,
the bill, once signed by Obama, will effectively give the government a
full mandate to punish, shut down or otherwise prosecute, any website it
deems offensive and a source of “foreign government propaganda from
Russia, China or other nations.” And since there is no formal way of
proving whether or not there is indeed a foreign propaganda sponsor, all
that will be sufficient to eliminate any “dissenting” website, will be
the government’s word against that of the website. One can be confident
that the US government will almost certainly prevail in every single
    time.

    • towerofbabel

Interesting. I think one of the best antidotes to neoliberalism, and its alter ego–fascism, is to re-appropriate and restore the language of free enterprise and markets and democracy. Why cede this language to the neoliberals who have used it as a mask for just the opposite economic program. Neoliberals are already armed for a fight against “Marxism” but will be helpless against their own rhetoric used to reframe economic ideas. This is why Michael Hudson,Thomas Piketty, Steve Keen and others are riveting in their critiques of neoliberalism. David Harvey is brilliant but he is less able to transcend the historic debate of capitalism versus socialism. He even wears a red shirt most of the time. It’s not because he isn’t one of the most important thinkers. It’s because the (superficial) critique of Marx is pervasive and taken for granted by most. When you enter the debate from that direction, you are facing a wall of self-perpetuating ignorance.

      • panem et circenses

I’m not a fan of so-called free markets, which don’t actually exist outside of fantasy economics, but in reality the only thing that would come close to a truly free market is some type of market socialism. Free associations can only occur on equal economic footing, otherwise coercion is involved, and capitalism requires state intrusion to fend off its inevitable crises.

        • towerofbabel

” Equal economic footing” That’s got to be the basis of society. But, there will always be competition and ability in human relationships. But, it doesn’t have to be pathological. I want to accept that fact, even embrace it, but maintain equilibrium–parity–within society as a whole. I realize this make heads explode on both sides of the debate.

Personally, I have come to believe that the best truths reconcile and integrate difficult oppositions. The worst truths seek to eradicate opposing realities and ideas. I really don’t think this is what Hudson, Harvey, or Piketty are about.

Also, what is capitalism? These forces are too complex to encapsulate in one word–even though I often do it myself. Marx knew that. He did the math–dialectically.

    This is interesting:

How Democrats Killed Their Populist Soul
In the 1970s, a new wave of post-Watergate liberals stopped fighting monopoly power. The result is an increasingly dangerous political system.

“We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can’t have both.”

More exactly, we may have democracy or capitalism, but not both. Economic power is political power.

This is where we differ. You will never have human societies without relationships of power. The key IS democracy. It’s the only way to maintain fairness and resolve inevitable conflicts of power without resorting to violence. When democratic structures are abandoned, coercion and conflict become likely.

I just watched John Pilger’s “War with China.” It was a powerful film. If you had any doubts about Empire, you won’t after watching this. Egad. (going to hide under my desk)
