Investigating Law Enforcement’s Possible Use of Surveillance Technology at Standing Rock

One of the biggest protests of 2016 is still underway at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota, where Water Protectors and their allies are fighting Energy Transfer Partners’ plans to drill beneath contested Treaty land to finish the Dakota Access Pipeline. While the world has been watching law enforcement’s growing use of force to disrupt the protests, EFF has been tracking the effects of its
surveillance technologies on water protectors’ communications and movement.

      just possible?

It isn’t only surveillance. They also shut down internet access at every protest site now like they’re dealing with a hostage situation rather than an expression of speech.

Trump pick for ambassador to Israel supports Israeli annexation of West Bank and calls liberal Jews ‘kapos’

Donald Trump has nominated 57-year-old Long Island native David Friedman to serve as U.S ambassador to Israel. Friedman served as Trump’s Israel adviser during the election campaign and has worked as Trump’s bankruptcy lawyer. He is a vociferous pro-settlement advocate who openly advocates for the annexation of the West Bank, and serves as president of American Friends of Bet El Institutions, a settlement advocacy group. Friedman will join an administration that has continually promised to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In announcing the pick Trump called Friedman “a longtime friend and trusted adviser.”

How Come No One Involved in the Russian Hacking Conspiracy Talked?

What we are experiencing in the delegitimization of Donald Trump is an extraordinary rejection of
democracy by elements in the government and by the presstitutes.

Historic First: U.S. State Launches Lawsuit Against Monsanto Over PCBs

For the first time ever, a U.S. state is suing the agribusiness giant Monsanto over the toxic after-effects of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), a dangerous chemical once commonly found in building supplies and industrial equipment.

From Willbur’s must read / daily links.

” But the statement still rings true. This is, after all, the job description of corporate media. As The Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald says, the “supreme religion of the U.S. press corps is reverence for power.” Their priesthood is a cabal of anonymous sources; their catechism is war everlasting. And so, the vulgar philistines on the plains, who foolishly prefer peaceful relations, steady work, and free healthcare to profiteering wars abroad, must be endlessly misled.”

Questions for the Electors on Russian Hacking

1/ The DNC hackers inserted the name of the founder of Russian intelligence, in Russian, in the metadata of the hacked documents. Why would the G.R.U., Russian military intelligence do that?

2/ If the hackers were indeed part of Russian intelligence, why did they use a free Russian email account, or, in the hack of the state election systems, a Russian-owned killchain2server? Does Russian intelligence normally display such poor tradecraft?

3/ Why would Russian intelligence, for the purposes of hacking the election systems of Arizona and Illinois, book space on a Russian-owned server and then use only English, as documents furnished by Vladimir Fomenko, proprietor of Kings Servers, the company that owned the server in question, clearly indicate?

4/ Numerous reports ascribe the hacks to hacking groups known as APT 28 or “Fancy Bear” and APT 29 or “Cozy Bear.” But these groups had already been accused of nefarious actions on behalf of Russian intelligence prior to the hacks under discussion. Why would the Kremlin and its intelligence agencies select well-known groups to conduct a regime-change operation on the most powerful country on earth?

5/ It has been reported in the New York Times, without attribution, that U.S. intelligence has identified specific G.R.U. officials who directed the hacking. Is this true, and if so, please provide details (Witness should be sworn)

6/ The joint statement issued by the DNI and DHS on October 7 2016 confirmed that US intelligence had no evidence of official Russian involvement in the leak of hacked documents to Wikileaks, etc, saying only that the leaks were “consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts.” Has the US acquired any evidence whatsoever since that time regarding Russian involvement in the leaks?

7/ Since the most effective initiative in tipping the election to Donald Trump was the intervention of FBI Director Comey, are you investigating any possible connections he might have to Russian intelligence and Vladimir Putin?

Talk about going from hero to zero.

        • MeanValueTheorem

What kills me is all this balking at the idea of “foreign nations trying to influence our democratic process.”

Not only has the U.S. engaged in this shit on a massive scale since the late 19th Century, but there are names for exercising such influence that should be familiar to every middle schooler if we had an education system worth a goddamn.

When violent means are employed to affect such influence it is called war. When peaceful yet clandestine means are employed it’s called espionage. and when not clandestine or violent it is called diplomacy.

Few nations, including Russia, would dare to engage the United States in outright War. All but a few of our allies practice espionage in the United States, most notably Israel. And every single nation on earth who hopes to avoid war with us practices diplomacy. The U.S., being the only remaining super power practices all three methods liberally, and war seems to be the preferred option these days.

Pretending these methods for influencing foreign governments were invented the day HRC lost the fucking election is beyond naive. But Goldwater Democrats like Warren and Clinton know this shit all too well. They just think we’re too stupid to know any better.

Democrats have taken Concern Trolling to new and almost unreachable heights with this latest line of bullshit. I’m actually impressed with the enormity of their mendacity. The absence of any fucking shame as they sink this nation into a third McCarthyist Era (first being the Palmer Raids under President Wilson.) The poors are getting rowdy again. OWS isn’t slinking away into nothingness. People are still mad. I suppose it is time for the establishment to kick-off another red-purge. If they’re to accomplish this act of political cleansing they’ll need to contrive some outside boogie man to suspend reason fuel their sham indictment of the left.

Fuck Warren. She’s traitor to her country.

      • notisaidthepig

I don’t care to hear anything this woman has to say. Certainly not about the Russia bogeyman.

      • MeanValueTheorem

God Warren is such a monumental phony. Pity the establishment didn’t go with her instead of Clinton. She would’ve not only won against Trump, she would’a breathed new life into the Hopey/Changey charade for at least another 4 years. So many of us, myself included, would have been surprised the day she announced her Treasury appointment was some creep from Goldman Sachs. After 2016 though, my bullshit meter is re-calibrated. The whole damned party is unsalvageable.

    • EdgarHF

I believe from The Return Of The Jedi onward the Star Wars movies have been mediocre at best.

Edit, full disclosure; I never bothered to even see the 5th and 6th movie

      • notisaidthepig

Oh, I did see the second trilogy. Ugh. Never did get around to watching The Force Awakens. Didn’t even know this one was on the radar which tells you how much attention I’m paying to entertainment news. (Honestly don’t know how I missed it. Probably I did hear something about it but it didn’t register enough to go into my long term memory. What does that tell you?)

        So. Whatever.

        • I thought FOrce Awakens, while lacking in many ways (and slavishly mimicing Star Wars, in others) , was at least not a slap in the face to fans of the original movies. It was at least as enjoyable as Retun of the Jedi.

Now, those three Lucas movies you call the prequels. Well, I thought they were so bad they don’t even count, to me, as Star Wars movies, in my heart. 😀

Rogue One could have been a good Empire-Strikes-Back-esque movie, but they went back and did re-writing and re-filming it to make it appeal to a “broader audience” and the final result shows. It’s not a war movies any more, but a jumbled “Romaction” movie.

          • notisaidthepig

Sounds awful. I think I’ll skip this one as well. Actually, I’m not a fan of the evil Disney empire. I know they are hard to avoid but I do my best not to encourage them too much.

          • I was actually taken tothe movie by friends with an extra ticket. Otherwise I would have waited until I could find a (decent) torrent.

I’d rate it as worth the cost to download a torrent, as there’s some battle scenes that will warm the heart of anyone who was a kid when Star Wars came out. Great X-Wing/TIE Fighter battles!

Season II Poldark, watching now: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3636060/

The Crown was excellent. Claire Foy is a good actor. It’s about QEII’s early days. Always tough to do when that person is still alive, but she was masterful. Amazing actually.

      • Victoria was fantastic. Haven’t seen the other two

        • Edwin

They’re all quite good if you ask me. I was nervous about ‘The Crown’ for the reason already stated, but Claire Foy did a bang up job. She’s also excellent in ‘Wolf Hall’, another *must see!!!

      • towerofbabel

Why can’t the workers build their own companies based on similar software?

        • Money, is the most likely answer. The software is pricey. Uber has over 1200 people it employs in IT. At a low-average of $50/Hr, that’s something like $60,000/Hour that they spend on creating and maintaining their business infrastructure.

How are you? How’s your health? Are you feeling better these days. I don’t want to see Sho in discomfort/pain.

        • Shohanna

I am still in pain and they still don’t know what exactly is wrong. However my pain had halved what it was a few days ago. Thanks Edwin! <3

“REGIME CHANGE” in US: A CIA-led COUP Against Trump Unfolding Before The World

    http://www.4thmedia.org/2016/12/a-cia-led-coup-against-american-democracy-is-unfolding-before-our-eyes/

    • Shohanna

We knew it was going to happen just a matter of when. The oligarchy is not abouut to let trump ruin their plans for world domination.

What is surprising is they are doing it in the open

      • kreskin

From what I’ve been reading it’s a long shot , but that’s what they said about Trump too .

    • The Plutocratic class is damned and determined to make me show deliberate and positive support for Trump, aren’t they?

      • 17

No shit, huh? We’re being forced closer to that border now.
