virus-protector-14It might be time to stop using antivirus software. The article and its subject aren’t far wrong; if you keep your OS and apps updated, and don’t click on all the, really quite obvious, scam links, you’ll be fine.

Can Trump and his gang of clowns actually BS and bumble their way into a trade war?

The Netherlands welcomes Donald Trump in it’s own way.

Iraq Considers Reciprocal Ban On US Citizens.

Fear Materialized: Border Agents Demand Social Media Data from Americans.

The Empire Has No Clothes.

Britain signals it might break from the US-Led, Pro-Assad coalition.

The Trump team has signaled it will go after the key pillar of Obama’s corporate welfare program, the vile “individual mandate.”

How the Small Business Administration Will Be Used to Destroy Regulations. The joke is on the author: Regulation don’t matter, if there’s no funds to enforce them, and the enforcing agencies are run by industry flacks. And the Dems and Reps long ago assured that was the case, like 30+ years long-ago.

Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

From they’ve been in a coma for the past 25 years. They suddenly notice:
“Surge in media mergers is expected under Trump’s pro-business agenda”
    http://www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-media-mergers-charter-verizon-20170126-story.html

    • “Pai… was Associate General Counsel at Verizon.”

“Wheeler was president of CTIA, which primarily represents the interests of wireless telecommunications companies.”

One gets up and goes out of the room, gets replaced by another. Anyone think John Oliver will be there this time?

      • EdgarHF

I’ve lost all respect for John Oliver.

        • towerofbabel

          His wife is a republican.

          • EdgarHF

I did not know that, but why am I not surprised?

        • kreskin

I wonder what Stewart would have said / done ,

          • EdgarHF

It appeared to me he kept on Hillary’s ass. I remember C&L posted an edited interview with Jon Stewart where he slammed Donald Trump. The part they edited out? They edited out him slamming Hillary.

          • kreskin

Did a little editing , eh ? Why am I not surprised ? What a pathetic bunch .

      • EdgarHF

I’d also like to know what merger Obama was ever opposed to?

    • towerofbabel

I just wrote this on Common Dreams:

“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power” ― Benito Mussolini

Right now we have overt fascism (rightwing authoritarianism) and covert fascism (anti-democratic neoliberalism). Both are pushing for the complete merger of corporate power with state power–they just use very different methods. The authoritarianism of more recognizable forms of rightwing fascism is just below the surface in neoliberalism–it just hasn’t emerged fully. This is about to happen which explains why the Democratic Party is drifting into authoritarian tactics, propaganda, war mongering and various imperialistic projects. They are simply responding to the wishes of their corporate masters. Both forms of fascism seek a radical exteriorization–or call it the ‘othering’–of non-cooperative social groups with the aim to coerce them into submission and conformance. This is evidence of their shared anti-democratic agendas that are now on full display.

So yes, fascism in its new forms is not as obvious as it was in mid-twentieth century Europe but it is here for real nonetheless. Pretending it doesn’t exist because it doesn’t look exactly like Nazism or Mussolini’s fascism is very dangerous.

If anyone asks me for social media info, I think I’m old enough to get away with saying I don’t have any…

    • “Now, son, I just don’t use the facebook, or the internets.”

(this contention will be supported by my plain-old dumb-phone, which I will hold while saying the above.)

      • Edwin

I don’t even take my stupid phone with me.

        • kreskin

You have a stupid phone ?

      • Dosido3

yeah, my phone is rather old. not a flip phone but old by local standards. Hubs and I refuse to upgrade every cycle. We also let our cars get old.

        • kreskin

We have a pay as you go T- Mobil flip phone . Wife is ashamed of it , can’t say that I blame her.

  • EdgarHF

“In national politics, liberals who vote for Democrats are like the Charlie Brown character in the comic strip “Peanuts”; the Democratic Party is like Lucy. Charlie Brown is always trying to kick the football, and Lucy is always lifting it away. Perhaps at the municipal level, it doesn’t have to be that way; perhaps liberals can force Lucy to be honest and play fair.”

I pretty much agree with this article, but ask Chicago what the Democratic Party does at the local level. We are up the creek without a paddle.

Jesus H Christ! On the way to work today I heard a commercial from lifelock warning us about the threat of foreign hackers stealing our personal information. What a bunch of assholes.

  • EdgarHF

I am disappointed with Jimmy Dore. He has begun sheepdogging for the “Justice Democrats”

    • Edwin

I’ve heard rumours. He seems to defer to Cenk.

      • EdgarHF

He has a bunch of new videos out. He is pushing for it hard.

        • Edwin

          Cenk is da boss.

If I watch them I will say something in the comments. He and Jordan should break off and do their own gig. (I often say so in the comments.)

          • EdgarHF

I still like Jimmy, but I think he is dead wrong on this one.

          • Edwin

I still watch the odd TYT video, but not nearly as many as I used to. They still have things to say, but the whole time I think sheepdogs for Hillary.

      • towerofbabel

        $$.

  • EdgarHF

So, I talked to my brother on the phone last night. To my surprise he came out to me. I told him that it does not matter to me.

    • Edwin

I hope he hasn’t been “hiding out” because of that. Did you decide when you;re going to Thailand?

      • EdgarHF

I hope that is not why he was missing either, Edwin. I already bought my airline ticket. I am leaving for there in 5 weeks.

        • Edwin

I hope it goes well for you both. You are brothers. You will work it out.

        • kreskin

          I leave a week from Sunday .

          • EdgarHF

Let us know when you get there, Kreskin. Watch out for those scary hackers we keep hearing about.

          • kreskin

I’m going to have talk with Vlad , will fill you in later.

      • EdgarHF

By the way I have not seen him in person for 25 years, so it will be pretty emotional for me when I get there.

    • MeanValueTheorem

      You’re a good brother.
My aunt did the same to me when I was 13. I told her I love her and was proud of her.

  • Dosido3

Della Street/Barbara Hale has passed away. 🙁 but she was up there at 93. I loved Perry Mason.

    • Edwin

      🙁

    • kreskin

I am not enjoying my sixties , they are a complete drag .

      • EdgarHF

        I second that.

      • I expect, by my 60s, to be living in the boonies, by myself, mostly cut-off from humanity. That comforts me, a little at least.

    • Watched a lot of that show myself. Weird connection: All three of the primary actors on that show, Hale, Burr and Hopper got some notice for their roles in SciFi films (and tv) before they were ever known for Perry Mason. LOL.

.Burying bad news in the killing fields of Yemen

UNICEF reported at least one child is dying every 10 minutes in Yemen and that there has been a 200 percent increase since 2014 in children suffering from severe acute malnutrition, with almost half a million affected. Nearly 2.2 million are acutely malnourished in need of urgent care. An estimated 21 million people – nearly double the number of people who need aid in Syria – require humanitarian assistance in a country where more than 60 per cent of Yemeni’s, according to the UN, are close to starvation. This comes as the country’s health system is on the verge of collapse, in part due to the ongoing US-UK – backed Saudi bombing of the country which began in March 2015.

All the times Republicans expressed moral outrage at Donald Trump’s threats to bar Muslims from the US

The reaction from US president Donald Trump’s own Republican party when he first called for a ban on all Muslim travel to the United States, in December of 2015, was swift and harsh.

Republican leaders vehemently condemned the suggestion from the billionaire upstart who was then leading in the GOP primary race. “Offensive and unconstitutional,” were the words of Mike Pence—before he joined Trump’s ticket as his vice president. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said it was “not conservatism.” Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell called it “completely inconsistent” with American values. Even former vice president Dick Cheney said it “goes against everything we stand for and believe in.”

US Homeland Security to Defy Court Ruling, Continue Muslim Ban

Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s draconian executive order banning people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) took to court, and won an emergency stay against that order Saturday.

But on Sunday, the Department of Homeland issued a statement stating it will defy the judge’s ruling and continue to enforce Trump’s order.

Rex Tillerson and the Myths, Lies and Oil Wars to Come

Rex Tillerson, former CEO of the ExxonMobil oil colossus is not designated Secretary of State because of his diplomatic experience. He is there because clearly the Trump Project of those Patriarchs behind
Trump–ones such as Warren Buffett, David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger and others–want a person from Big Oil guiding American foreign policy the coming four years. Already as President, Trump has given the green
light to the controversial KeystoneXL pipelines that will not ship US oil, but costly Canada Tar Sands sludge. His EPA plans a friendly stance to the environmental hazards of shale oil production. But most essential, with Secretary Tillerson, the US plans a major reorganization of control over oil, reminding of the oft-cited Kissinger statement, “If you control the oil you control entire nations or groups of nations.”

A new study kills the notion that fake news swung the US election to Trump

In the aftermath of the 2016 US presidential election, the proliferation of “fake news” got a lot attention. The phenomenon received substantial coverage from very real news organizations, and some observers went so far as to blame Democrat Hillary Clinton’s loss to US president Donald Trump on these false stories that went viral on Facebook. Clinton herself called fake news an “epidemic.”

But it appears the impact of fake news has been exaggerated.

War With US Becoming A “Practical Reality” Chinese Military Warns

In the harshest warning yet that China is actively contemplating a worst case scenario for its diplomatic relations with the US, a senior Chinese military official said that “a war within the president’s term’ or ‘war breaking out tonight’ are not just slogans, they are becoming a practical reality.” The remarks, first reported by the SCMP, were published on the People’s Liberation Army website in response to the escalating rhetoric towards China from America’s new administration, and as Beijing braces itself for a possible deterioration in Sino-US ties, with a particular emphasis on maritime security.

Syria: Undeclared US-NATO War of Aggression, Using Al Qaeda Terrorism as An Instrument of Death and Destruction

The following eight concepts are intended to clarify the nature of the war on Syria.

It was never “a civil war”. It was an undeclared war of aggression using Al Qaeda affiliated terrorists as the foot-soldiers of US-NATO and their Middle East allies.

From day one, terrorists were involved in the killing of civilians. It started in Daraa as an insurgency integrated by Salafist mercenaries.

Most of what is presented below is backed up by mainstream and official sources of information.
