Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • “FUCK UNITY! FUCK CONSENSUS! There was no unity or consensus during the American Revolution. We had principled leadership from a small, vocal, minority that refused to compromise on the issue of individual liberty.”

“Map of where Germans voted for the Nazis in 1933.”

What is not mentioned in the article is the Germans had a choice between Nazi and Nazi Lite. Sound familiar?

  • EdgarHF

Well, I am at work right now, but after work I will be headed for the airport. I’ll be in Thailand for the next couple weeks. I’ll check in if I can.

    • kreskin

If you are bringing a lap top you might want to sign up for a VPN service before you leave . Saving my butt here in Russia .

      • EdgarHF

I will be bringing a tablet. I had not thought of signing up for a VPN. I will look into it.

        • kreskin

With a VPN you won’t have to worry about being blocked , can work around it . I could not have paid my remaining PUD ( electric ) bill without it , was blocked from accessing the web site . Am able to access my banking account without any trouble . A much more secure connection , obviously . You can download / install on tablet too , I am sure . $10 a month .

        • I use private internet access. Great pricing, truly anonymous when using. had them for like a year now and couldn’t be more satisfied! Works with Windows, Mac, Android and iOS

      • EdgarHF

I’m hoping they don’t lose my luggage,

        • kreskin

That was not a pleasant experience , could not have happened at a worse time . Thought I was going to freeze to death in Moscow .

          • EdgarHF

I had mine lost once back in 1973. I was in the Marines then and we were required to check into a new duty station in uniform. All my uniforms were in my lost duffle bag. Of course the Marine Corps did not give a shit the airline lost it and made me scrub floors all night as punishment.

          • kreskin

No mercy , what a drag that must have been !

Gotta go eat , supper time .

          • thud

Mine went to Guatemala while I went to Guam once. Not as harsh as what you had tho.

    • Good luck!

    • notisaidthepig

      Have fun, Edgar!

  • kreskin

It will be a good day when John McCain keels over , that POS is a waste of oxygen .

I blame Charlie. Dereliction of duty.

      • kreskin

        Good point , you’re right .

Violence in Cyberspace: Are Disruptive Cyberspace Operations Legal under International Humanitarian Law?

In general terms, international humanitarian law (known as IHL, but often referred to in the U.S. as the law of armed conflict) protects civilians from attacks. The most basic rule of IHL makes it illegal to directly attack civilians, unless and for such time as they directly participate in hostilities. This notion of distinction is one of the core values that the whole corpus of international humanitarian law is based on. According to international humanitarian law, legitimate targets of attacks are combatants, members of armed groups, and other military objectives. While it is generally accepted that international humanitarian law applies to cyberspace operations, it is not always clear whether a specific cyber operation falls within the legal definition of “attacks”. “Attacks” is a legal term of art, defined by Additional Protocol I of the Geneva Conventions (AP I) as “acts of violence against the adversary, whether in offence or in defence.” Essentially, the key to understanding whether a particular cyberspace operation directed at civilians is legal or not, is asking whether it is an “attack,” in other words, if it constitutes an “act of violence.”

.The Hideous Truth About the Politics of American Poverty

Growing up and working in America, if you don’t come from “money,” involves luck and too often also involves 5 or more years in Iraq or Afghanistan or whatever the “flavor of the month” war is.

Americans move from home to school and back home again and to shared apartments, dilapidated homes in crime ridden neighborhoods, while employers, all well organized and coordinated, spiral wages to nothing while their offshore parent corporations pump cash into foreign banks.

This is the real story of job loss in America, Trump who has never had a job, knows nothing about real people.

For those who do well, money comes easy and easier still comes the harsh judgement of others deemed “unworthy.” For those fortunate enough to be well placed in the rackets of the day, doctors, lawyers, bankers, insurance, pharmaceuticals or government, money flows like water.

For others, the majority of others, life goes nowhere at all.

It Starts: EU Founders to Form Federal Union of European States

Anti-establishment and anti-EU winds are blowing across Europe hard and fast, as the bloc is edging ever
closer to collapse. The Brexit-started domino effect is continuing the chain reaction across the Union. Crises abound, and all of them boil down to people ultimately prizing their national and regional identities over the supranational project. The upcoming changes may make the West as we know it fade away, with groups of states united by shared interests emerging instead.

Ah, mr.Shadowproof, do you still think that Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions sworn testimony is suitable material for alleging a conspiracy to bring down the innocent Lord Trump administration? I would add that an article which has the intent of showing how it is false to suspect deep and potentially damaging connections between lord Trump and Russian corruption does well not to mention the name Manafort.

McCarthyism at it’s finest . And we used to complain about Republican theater !

      • EdgarHF

        It’s all one big stage.

        • notisaidthepig

Personally, I love it. The Dims are so dumb. Let them keep making these stupid, stupid mistakes. They aren’t convincing ANYONE.

In the Navy, we used to call this “polishing the turd.”

(at least it’s bright and shiny)

      • IronPyrite_Reborn

But, but, but….Tom and Keith are “progressives”.

The DNC won’t be satisfied with losing (and they will continue to blame the voters, and Jill Stein) until the Rethugs have a fillibuster/veto proof majority in the House and Senate; and control enough of the state house/governorship to ensure that they can have an Article 5 “convention of the states” so that they can amend the Constitution.

And will all be the fault of the Clintons, establishment DINOs, and the sycophantic supporters.

        • EdgarHF

Then the GOP can pretend the Democrats won’t let them do anything. Oh wait they already are. Don’t you just love Kabuki Theater?

      • EdgarHF

        Well Taipei this leg

      • EdgarHF

Still over Minnesota right now at 30,000

        Edit: actually Canada

        • kreskin

Say hi to my mom for me .

        • Edwin

They don’t look any different from an airplane. (The lines we draw on our maps are sort of arbitrary.)

    • kreskin

      Greetings E, dgar . I’m curious , what airlines ? Delta ?

      • EdgarHF

        Eva air

        • kreskin

          Taiwanese is it ?

          • EdgarHF

Yep, not too bad an airline. Just had dinner. Once they flip off the lights I’m watching the latest Star Trek movie.

          • kreskin

            Coolidge .

          • EdgarHF

Will be flying over Russia and South Korea later. I’ll wave.

          • kreskin

We’re between the two bridges stranding the huge snow and ice field that is the Volga river , on the west bank . I’ll be looking for you .

          • EdgarHF

I think it’s the part of Russia Sarah Palin sees through her back window we’ll be flying over.

          • kreskin

We are southeast of Moscow , 16 hours by train .

    • kreskin

I hope the reunion goes well .

    • notisaidthepig

      Eerie.

    • Shohanna

It’s .. Blank. What is it?

      • towerofbabel

        A turkey funeral.
I notice they are turning clockwise.

        • Shohanna

I saw that too. So weird! It gave me chills. Like I was seeing something I wasn’t suppose to see.

      • Edwin

It’s about 20 turkeys walking in a circle around a dead cat in the road. Maybe they lent the cat something and they’re hoping they can get it back.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-LWlMCIgPA

        • Shohanna

CREEPY!! OMFG.. I have never seen that before!

Guess what? Turkeys are sentient beings with complex awareness too.

    • EdgarHF

Grrrr not enough bandwidth up here to view YouTube clips😕

      • notisaidthepig

Just watch it later. Jimmy is really hitting his stride.

        • EdgarHF

I think by the time I get to Thailand I’m going to sleep for a week. I can’t sleep on a freaking airplane and I been up for almost 30 hours. Almost 5 hours left for this fly then an hour and a half layover before another 4 hour flight.

          • notisaidthepig

Oh, god. You are reminding me of my flights back and from from the U.S. to Cambodia. Ugh. Hate flying. I’m not scared just hate the endless flights as I, too, have trouble sleeping. Good luck!

          • EdgarHF

            Still two hours to Taipei.

          • Edwin

I had that, plus no smoking. (I have since quit smoking, but all those years… )

          • kreskin

            I know the feeling , comrade .

  • EdgarHF

While still above Russia here’s a wave to Kreskin.

  • Shohanna

    Good Morning! **wave**

  • EdgarHF

    Waves down at Edwin

  • EdgarHF

Nice to be off that airplane even if is just for an hour.

    • Edwin

You made it across the Pacific. That’s the worst part. Taipei to BKK is just a hop.

      • EdgarHF

After 15hours 40. Minutes the next 3 hours 55 minutes will be a breeze.

        • Edwin

They are (they will be). And then you touch down in paradise. (I love Thailand.)

My longest ever, without a break, was from JFK to Seoul, direct. 17 hours. It was horrible.

          • EdgarHF

Flying to Tokyo will seem short for me next time.

          • Edwin

Any flight over the Pacific is long.

I used to stop in Vancouver and stay with my sister for a few days and then go to Toronto. That was OK. It’s about 11 hours Seoul to Vancouver.

          • Edwin

You are anticipating the start of your journey and seeing your brother so you are expectant or have a lot on your mind. It makes it seem to take longer.

You can have an afternoon nap and then go out for dinner with your brother.

          • EdgarHF

Right about that. After a nap I want a plate of pad Thai.

          • Edwin

I love chicken and cashew and hot beef salad and…. so many. Thai food is great.

I had it once in a restaurant in Seoul and it was awful. Think you need all the super-fresh stuff (veggies, spices, herbs) to grow right around you for it to be good. Like, it’s better fresh in Thailand is what I’m saying.

          • EdgarHF

You’re making me more hungry. Maybe I will have that plate before the nap.

          • notisaidthepig

I flew LAX to BKK once direct: 16 hours. Ugh.

          • Edwin

Horrible. I wouldn’t have thought it would be that long, but it’s a lot further south. When you fly JFK/Toronto to Seoul you go up over Alaska and Siberia.

If you’re lucky you get a flight that stops in Alaska and you get off the plane for 90 minutes. That’s heavenly. I used to walk rings around the airport (for exercise) between cigarettes. Then it’s 8 more hours to Seoul.

          • notisaidthepig

Eight hour flight? That’s nothing! 😉

          • Edwin

From Alaska. 8 hours to Alaska. It’s the halfway point.

At about 2 am 747s headed to Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, (etc.) land. The airport is crammed for 90 minutes and there is shopping galore. Then all those huge jets leave at the same time and they probably close the airport and turn off the lights. It’s quite something.

          • towerofbabel

It always seemed like there was serious turbulence northeast of Japan. Is that typical?

          • Edwin

            ?? don’t know

        • Edwin

Direct flight Seoul to BKK is 6.5 hours. If you take a Chinese airline they stop in Taipei, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, etc., which is about half way. It is a short flight from Taipei. You can start feeling somewhat relieved. The worst is behind you.

It is his reunion. I guess we can wait a few more hours. +_+

    • EdgarHF

I’m alive an well. I go see my brother in about an hour. This place is insane.

      • Edwin

Ha ha. I was just joking. Insane? Why so? (I’ve spent about 1 1/2 years of my life in Thailand so it all looks normal to me.)

Are you nervous? excited? happy? all of the above?

        • EdgarHF

It was all of the above. Very emotional for me, more emotional than I thought it would be.

          • Edwin

So, you’ve done it. I hope it went well for you and you can have a nice visit while you’re there.

          Good!
