.America’s Women Go On Strike, Pledge To “Avoid Spending Money” (Men Celebrate)

Women all around the United States plan to use today, International Women’s Day, to stay home from work and stage demonstrations to, among other things, continue their opposition efforts against the Trump administration and call attention to the gender pay gap.

In addition to not working, a great perk for protesters by itself, organizers suggest women wear red and also avoid spending money, the latter of which many men around the country undoubtedly wish their wives would observe in perpetuity. But if they just have to spend money, protest organizers suggest women only do so at women-owned businesses (which would seem difficult since those women-owned businesses should be closed in solidarity…but we digress). “It would pretty much shut down the economy if all women bought nothing,” said Michael Englund, the chief economist at Action Economics, a financial analysis firm. “It is a question of participation. I’ve never seen any boycott or protest ever affect GDP numbers.”

Organizers are attempting to repeat tactics from the Jan. 21 women’s march on Washington and other cities that came together largely through social media.

    • Shohanna

      I spent $55 today for my prescriptions! And I didn’t wear red, and I wasn’t protesting. /nod

Good Morning! I am on a break today! I dunno what the hell I am going to do! I can’t just sit here and read news. O.O Guess I have to attempt to smash some orcs heads in. I do not have the patience to do “nothing”. O.O

.China Grants Preliminary Approval to 38 New Trump Trademarks

China has granted preliminary approval for 38 new Trump trademarks, paving the way for President Donald Trump and his family to potentially develop a host of branded businesses from hotels to insurance to
bodyguard and escort services, public documents show.

Trump’s lawyers in China applied for the marks in April 2016, as Trump railed against China at campaign rallies, accusing it of currency manipulation and stealing U.S. jobs. Critics maintain that Trump’s swelling portfolio of China trademarks raises serious conflict of interest questions.

China’s Trademark Office published the provisional approvals on Feb. 27 and Monday.

Thanks, Unk. FWIW, that link isn’t my Disqus. It looks like my comments are at https://disqus.com/by/disqus_oodaloop/.

I never knew I had a doppelgänger on Disqus! 🙂

    • 17

Maybe that was you before the 1.21 Gigawatts@88MPH?

      • oodaloop

I never had a vehicle with a stainless steel body, at least that I can remember. Perhaps it’s likely that we’ll never know for sure…

    • Strange, I just copied it from the link here in Disqus. LOL.

      • oodaloop

Yeah, I have no idea who that person is who made the two comments at the Whidbey Island newspaper or whatever it was. Strange to think that someone else had my same screen name…I thought I was unique (just like everybody else). 🙂

Like 17 said, maybe this is simply a paradox from when I went all the way to 88mph…

        • Shohanna

They could have a space before the first letter, or after the last letter. (Every name has to be Unique). So it “Looks” the same, but it really isn’t the same. I promise. Copy and paste that poster’s name and you will see it IS different.

          • oodaloop

Yeah, my disqus “address” has a /disqus_oodaloop and their’s was just /oodaloop. I can’t believe there’s another idiot out there calling themself oodaloop. This town’s not big enough for the two of us.

I’m just glad they only did two entire posts and then seemingly shut down…or picked a sensible moniker!

          • Shohanna

hahahah That’s good that you are reassured. /nod

        • Shohanna

OOH I figured it out oodaloop..

That website doesn’t have disqus, they use another commenting system that is similar and they must log in. So it probably IS your doppleganger, but they couldn’t get an account on disqus b/c the Uniqueness of the names. 😀

Israel shuts door to redress for thousands of Palestinian victims

Israel has given itself almost complete immunity from paying compensation in cases where its soldiers have killed, injured or disabled Palestinian civilians, Israeli human rights group B’Tselem warned in a new report
this week. It said changes to Israeli law over the past 15 years meant Israel now denied many thousands of Palestinians redress in its civil courts, even for harm caused in non-combat situations.

.Update Twitter and free up a lot of space on your iPhone

Twitter updated its iPhone app today with a new feature that lets users do some spring cleaning.

The social network now lets users see how much space is taken up by all the files, photos, videos, and web data stored in the app. If you’re a heavy user, it’s likely that there will be a fair amount of data in there, and Twitter now lets you delete it. On my iPhone, which is only about six months old, I was able to free up roughly 1 GB of space being used by Twitter data (I’m a frequent user). For iPhone owners with limited storage space left, the update may well be welcome news.

    (Instructions at the link)
