.The Failures of Fight for $15

“The Fight for $15 started with just a few hundred fast food workers in New York City, striking for $15 an hour and union rights. Today, [they]’re an international movement in over 300 cities on six continents of fast-food workers, home health aides, child care teachers, airport workers, adjunct professors, retail employees – and underpaid workers everywhere.” This synopsis for the Fight for $15 movement comes from their About Me page on their official website. Since its inception, anarchists have debated the pros and cons of the movement and its goals.

.Court Rules Reclined Car Seat Now Suspicious and Can Justify Warrantless Searches

In one of the most stereotypical, rights-violating and tyrannical laws we’ve ever seen, the Kansas Supreme Court just ruled that a reclined car seat is suspicious behavior and can be used by police as a justification for warrantless searches. As if the police needed another reason to stop and harass you, they can now do so — based entirely on your seat posture while riding in a vehicle.

.Trump’s “Historic” DoD Budget Increase Implies Preparations for More War

President Trump’s proposed 54-billion-dollar increase to the national budget will likely be spent on increasing the presence of U.S. troops abroad. It seems that the real goal of the increase is to continue U.S. involvement in armed conflicts around the globe.

.Hackers Demand Ransom From Apple Threatening to Erase Data From 300Mln Accounts

A hacking group threatens to wipe data from over 300 million Apple devices unless the US technology giant pays a ransom, the Motherboard news portal reported Tuesday.

The hackers identified as “Turkish Crime Family” demanded Apple to pay $75,000 in crypto-currencies or $100,000 worth of iTunes gift cards by April 7. Otherwise they would remotely reset 300 million Apple email accounts they allegedly have access to, the outlet said.

Law Enforcement Today shows us everything wrong with policing in America

.Law Enforcement Today unwittingly demonstrated everything wrong with American policing in a
single post on March 19, 2017. The post featured a photo of a masked militarized officer with the caption “I’ll never explain myself to a person who sleeps under the blanket of protection that we provide then questions the manner in which we provide it.”

The caption is a plagiarized version of a line from A Few Good Men, which reads “I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it!”

So who is Law Enforcement Today idolizing and paying homage to? The character in the movie ordered an assault on an innocent person. That assault turned into a murder. He then attempted to cover up his crime, and acted as if he was above question while leaving his underlings twisting in the wind for his crimes. That does sound a lot like modern policing in the United States.

.Mitch McConnell Ran Out of Fucks to Give a Long Time Ago

Remember that old law school wheeze about the guy who kills both parents and then pleads for mercy because he’s an orphan? That is often given as the legal definition of chutzpah. Well, courtesy of Tiger Beat On The Potomac, here’s a little chutzpah to go with your morning coffee.

“If they don’t find Gorsuch acceptable, are they taking the position
that the vacancy should never be filled at all? Last year they were
complaining about there being a vacancy for roughly a year,” McConnell
said, referring to Democratic outrage over the majority leader’s
decision to ignore Merrick Garland’s nomination.

It must be said for the record that Mitch McConnell’s ultimate political skill consists of Not Giving A Fuck. In unprecedented fashion, he deliberately kept that seat open for more than a year because he didn’t want a Democratic president filling the chair left vacant by the death of Antonin Scalia. (Or, as Neil Gorsuch put it on Tuesday in one of his few slip-ups, a “Democrat president.” That’s a tell, Your Honor.)

Dosi it was a stolen election. Grimes had it up until 30 minutes til the close of Poles and even the Courier Journal had her winning with a LAND slide..

Then with in 2 minutes it all FLIPPED. They Stole that election, BLATANTLY and then refused to report on it. None of the news would say ANYthing about it.

.The explosion hidden inside the UN Apartheid report

The UN-commissioned report on Israeli Apartheid that was shelved last week (two days after it appeared), is no doubt explosive. The very idea that Israel is guilty of the crime of Apartheid, one of the two gravest crimes against humanity (second only to Genocide), is, in itself, one that should give everyone pause.

But there is another explosion in the report.

Israel and its patrons have desperately sought to shelve a discussion about Zionism as a racist ideology. The Apartheid report brings it back to the front.

  • thud

I heard on NPR about the banning of laptops and such from carry on luggage during international flights. Somehow the minor detail that US based airlines were not bound by this was overlooked in the reporting. An honest mistake ,I am sure.

    • “I don’t think anyone could have predicted…”
      – Condi Rice

    • kreskin

The ban is in response to reports that militant groups want to smuggle explosive devices inside electronic gadgets . The carriers — Royal Jordanian Airlines, Egypt Air, Turkish Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad Airways — have until Friday to heed the new policy, which took effect early on Tuesday and will be in place indefinitely.

      • thud

It has been theorized that the intent of the ban is to hurt the competition of American based airlines. Do you have a take on that?
