Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • notisaidthepig

The shit is hitting the fan…..again. Sigh.

    • 17

There’s a lifeboat. Expect mail later today.

      • notisaidthepig

Oh, that’s good to hear. But, honestly, this is getting tiresome.

        • 17

          Innit?

    • ?!?

      • notisaidthepig

Well….there’s been an exodus of sorts from The Troy Press because of RT’s actions against Edwin and Nancy.

        • Oh, well, that was inevitable.

          • notisaidthepig

I suppose. I never really understood why people seem to have drifted away from here. I like to mind my own business though so perhaps I don’t need to know. I just want to thank you again, Unka, for being so welcoming when I migrated here from TBR. I really appreciated this place then and still do.

          • Well, many thanks. My only goal here has been to provide a place for folks to discuss the news, from a solidly progressive position, and I’ve tried to stay away from any drama.

I think the drift was the result of some raw nerves after TBR, my strong opinions and willingness to argue for them, and a little push from RT. Combine and stir vigorously. From my PoV, I have no ego involved in the site, so if people find a place that makes them happy, then I’m happy for them. I’m sorry the exodus RT led didn’t work out for folks.

          • notisaidthepig

You’re a good person. I want you to know that I appreciate what you did. And I’ll be coming here for the foreseeable future. I see no reason not to. As I’ve said before, your daily links are awesome!

          • FaunaAndFlora

I always look forward to Unka’s links.

          • Thanks@FaunaAndFlora:disqus, and to you to @notisaidthepig:disqus . I appreciate such comments a great deal. I get a lot of enjoyment from reading and conversing with you all, you’re some of the smartest commenters on the web, IME.

          • FaunaAndFlora

Thank you, Unka. I don’t always comment, but I usually drop in several times a day just to read your links and to see what others have to say. It’s a good group of people.

            Me too .

    Nobody for Bloomberg

Bernie would have won and nobody wants Bloomberg. Elites may disagree, but American voters aren’t looking for “sensible” centrist candidates.

    https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/12/nobody-for-bloomberg/

    • Once again, something we knew, but a fact all those “experts” couldn’t see, even though they were sat right in front of it. LOL

      • notisaidthepig

They saw it alright. They simply chose to ignore it because they knew better. And here’s what we all got because of their hubris and condescension. I hope there is a hell and these corporate tools burn for eternity for selling out millions of working class people so their palms would stay greased. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as far as what they are responsible for. Odious, vile hypocrites each and every one.

Israel’s free ride on the F-35

Since the election, one target of President-elect Donald Trump’s criticism of corporate America has been the Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth fighter program. Interestingly, Trump’s criticism coincided with the delivery of the first two out of 50 F-35 jets to Israel, the first foreign country to receive them. Donald Trump claims he wants “to make good deals for this country,” and if he is serious, he would reassess the horrible deal that currently exists between the U.S. and Israel.

Wow. Turkey wasted the Russian Ambassador!

    • kreskin

      C’mon man . LOL

      • 17

        I know, right?

        • kreskin

          From the Guardian :

” Andrei Karlov was attacked at the opening of an art exhibition in Ankara by a man believed to be an off-duty Turkish police officer. Karlov was several minutes into a speech when he was shot. Footage of the attack showed a man dressed in a suit and tie standing calmly behind the ambassador. He then pulled out a gun, shouted “Allahu Akbar” and fired at least eight shots.

After firing at the ambassador, the man shouted in Turkish: “Don’t forget Aleppo. Don’t forget Syria. Unless our towns are secure, you won’t enjoy security. Only death can take me from here. Everyone who is involved in this suffering will pay a price.”

He also shouted in Arabic: “We are the one who pledged allegiance to Muhammad, to wage jihad.”

          • 17

And finally, after he managed to get out every word he was sent there to say, action was taken to stop him. Funny how that works.

          • Edwin

A paid actor couldn’t have done it better.

          • kreskin

            HUH ?

          • Edwin
          • kreskin

            Who knows , huh ?

          • kreskin

This quote is from the Guardian , they probably embellished it a bit . Obvious that security was caught off guard. The guy was halfway through his speech the assassin was standing right behind him.

          • kreskin

Check out vid at RT news. No security in sight , you’re right , it’s bizarre.

The Dynamic Duo: Barack “Cut it out” Obama and Hillary “personal beef” Clinton

Gotham City has a new dynamic duo: the Boy Wonder Barack “Cut it out” Obama and Catwoman Hillary “personal beef” Clinton. And they have a clear message to spell out to the Riddler, the Joker and the Penguin, all of whom live in the Kremlin: “show some grace” to our terrorists and bus them home to Washington DC!

I guess “Bullshit” was already taken?

After a series of terror attacks and the US election, Merriam-Webster names “surreal” the word of the year

Merriam-Webster’s choice came after Dictionary.com named xenophobia its word of the year, and Oxford Dictionaries selected post-truth, reflecting how divided and politically charged the world has been in 2016.

This needs to be careful scrutinized. Nothing is as it seems: Russian Ambassador to Turkey Is Assassinated in Ankara

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/19/world/europe/russia-ambassador-shot-ankara-turkey-report.html?smid=tw-share&_r=0

    • 17

Yeah. First, he was a Turkish cop. Secondly, he sure had alot of time to get his message voiced before being taken down.

    • Edwin

I haven’t looked at it yet, but my first thought was Sarajevo.

    • notisaidthepig

      CIA?

      • 17

No one dies without Bibi’s approval. Keep that in mind. Not an accusation, just an observation.

      • kreskin

An ordinary ambassador ? Why ?

        • notisaidthepig

Can we think of no reason?

          • kreskin

No , we can’t . : ) None that would make sense , be worth the risk .

    • kreskin

Talked to my wife this AM , she told me the news . Russian media is reporting that the assassin shouted get out my country and God is great .

  • kreskin
    • notisaidthepig

      Shit.

  • Edwin
    • notisaidthepig

      Poor snowflakes.

      • EdgarHF

I try not to laugh at the pawns, but a lot of them were downright mean before and after the election. so, I will reserve my laughter for the mean ones. We’re still all screwed.

        • The saddest part is that we were all screwed no matter the outcome. I think what we need is a screwdriver.

          • FaunaAndFlora

The drink or the tool? Or both?

          • notisaidthepig

I’ll have a whiskey on the rocks. Make it a double actually.

          • Oh, good lord, you have no idea how badly I want a Quality Martini right now. Except I have no Gin, and have been able to make a Quality Martini myself. LOL.

          • FaunaAndFlora

            Shaken or stirred?

          • Stirred, not shaken.

          • FaunaAndFlora

            Tanqueray or Beefeaters?

          • It order of preference, given availability:

            1. Hendrick’s
            2. Bombay Sapphire
            3. Beafeater 24.

          • FaunaAndFlora

I forgot about Bombay Sapphire. Been a long time since I’ve poured drinks for a living. I was a Tanqueray gal back when I’d drink the occasional gin and tonic. Never tried the Hendrick’s.

          • Hendrick’s is kind of new, Scottish with a breath of cucumber & rose. It’s the kind of gin you can drink regularly and not tire of. Bombay a favorite, and far more readily available than Hendrick’s.

Ain’t nothing wrong with Tanq, Lord knows I’ve drunk enough of it. 😀

          • FaunaAndFlora

            Here you go…

(Year’s ago, I had the pleasure of pouring a few drinks for Merle Haggard. This was his drink.)

          • I had some good times at a science-fiction convention, with just a bottle of Wild Turkey and a young lady I met, dressed up like Red Sonja.

          • notisaidthepig

            Oink!

          • FaunaAndFlora

That sounds like a helluva story!

          • I should have added: A comped room!

          • FaunaAndFlora

Good whiskey, a comped room and Red Sonja? Sounds like one for the books, heh?

          • 17

Dear Penthouse, I never thought it would happen to me, but…

          • Way more awkward than that. ROFL. 70s/80s science-fiction conventions were often little more than nerd meat-markets. The nerdy version of a gym, or nightclub.

          • EdgarHF

On an science fiction reading binge lately, I guess that makes me a nerd.

          • Well, it got me my first NerdGirl girlfriend…

          • notisaidthepig

            Many thanks!

          • EdgarHF

My second favorite Bourbon after Maker’s 46. Alas, I can not drink alcohol anymore as I am on blood thinners. sniff…..sniffle….. And I’m outta weed! whaaaaaahhh

          • FaunaAndFlora

Aw man! Out of weed too? That sucks!

          • EdgarHF

Well, I’m trying to cut down to a 1/2 oz a month, but I didn’t let this month’s last 🙁

          • MeanValueTheorem

            mmmmmmmmm

That’s some snow shoveling fuel right there.

          • 17

Get me one too, but don’t let the old lady see it.

          • notisaidthepig

            (((a pig passes 17 a glass)))

          • Both.

        • notisaidthepig

I agree. I don’t say it to most. Just those that are petulant and that hurled insults at us and are still doing so. They are shill and tools of the establishment and deserve our contempt.

        • Edwin

My rules are simple. If you’re nice to me, I’m nice in return. If you’re not, I’m not.

      • Edwin

        sick of them

        (puke)

    • kreskin

      Geeese , how pathetic.

  • EdgarHF
    • notisaidthepig

Couldn’t read it because I have Ad Blocker.

      • EdgarHF

It’s just a story saying two electors, one in Maine and one in Minn tried to switch their votes from Hillary to Bernie. lol

        • notisaidthepig

Oh, $hillary is not going to be happy about that. It’s adding insult to injury. Ha!

          • 17

She shoulda bought ’em or threatened ’em, as is business as usual for a Clinton.

  • So, no surprise from the electoral college today, and a car-accident passing for some definition of “terrorism?”

Anything of interest going on? 😉 😀

  • notisaidthepig
    • kreskin

How about CIA / Government and media interference and fraud ?

      • Dosido3

Stein is starting to annoy me…

        • kreskin

This recount business was a joke .

  • Dosido3

More in Surreal News…did you guys hear the story about the deer found in a NYC park. It was going to be transferred but died while in police custody…:(

    • That’s just bizarre. And what was the issue with moving it. There’s several species of deer that are in NY. Inf act, the NYC Government says “In New York City, white-tailed deer can currently be found in Pelham Bay and Van Cortlandt Parks in the Bronx and throughout Staten Island green spaces.”

      • Dosido3

Yeah. I don’t know. Just weird that 24 hours of police custody is lethal for more than one species. It’s the perfect shitty holiday news story for a real shitty year.

  • kreskin

Edgar posted this on a previous thread and I am reposting it because it is a must-listen-to video. Michael Hudson explains in simple english why our country’s foreign policy is about bombs and bullying. The second half is where the meat is but the whole discussion is worth the time.
