Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

      fun…so retro!

    • Ann Watson

Switch off, chill out is my answer to it all.
Look at the sky and let the world go by. ; )

    • Dosido3

well, we are only promised the “pursuit of happiness” after all.

  • 17

Ah, yes. The same ACLU that requested the DC police turn off their bodycams during the unrest over Trump’s inauguration. Yeah, they need my money. Sorry, NO.

    • Dosido3

wait, they did what? oh, so that the police couldn’t gather intel on activitists? :/ no winning with that.

      • towerofbabel

The cops want to video protesters but turn of the cameras when they are beating up or killing someone. So its pretty clear that this is all about intent.

    • thud
      • towerofbabel

It’s actually not a simple thing, one way or another.

        • thud

Were it up to me I’d give the ACLU the benifit of the doubt. They used to be impartial to a fault. Perhaps they have fallen.

          • towerofbabel

I see them defending peoples right to protest without the authorities videoing them and then creating a file on them. This issue cuts both ways.

          • thud

It seems the ACLU don’t trust the LEO’s. I don’t either. But it’s just one little aspect of the emerging police state. Push back or give up.It wouldn’t surprise me if this was all a sham because everything is being recorded anyway, with facial recognition software and cell phone tracking and Bog only knows what else.

      • 17

So the snopes article says they didn’t “demand” and then goes on to say that the ACLU say “they shouldn’t be on”. That tells me they didn’t want them on. Snopes is worthless.

Following Botched Raid, Yemen Withdraws Permission For US Ground Operations

The Trump Administration’s claims that a January 29 ground raid in Yemen was a “success” appear to be on increasingly flimsy ground, with the Yemeni government today announcing it has revoked permission for all future US ground operations on their soil.

.The FBI: The Silent Terror Of The Fourth Reich

Lately, there’s been a lot of rhetoric comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler. The concern is that a Nazi-type regime may be rising in America.

That process, however, began a long time ago.

.How Hal Martin Stole 75% of NSA’s Hacking Tools: NSA Failed to Implement Required Security Fixes for Three Years after Snowden

The other day, Ellen Nakashima reported that Hal Martin, the Booz Allen contractor who has been in
custody for months based on allegations he stole terabytes of NSA’s hacking tools, may be indicted this week. The story raises some interesting questions — such as how, absent some proof that Martin leaked this information to a third party, prosecutors intend to distinguish Martin’s hoarding from David Petraeus’ sharing of code word information with his girlfriend Paula Broadwell. One detail Nakashima included — that Martin had stolen “operational plans against ‘a known enemy’ of the United States” — may suggest prosecutors plan to insinuate Martin stole the information to alert that known enemy (especially if the known enemy is Russia).

All that said, the detail in Nakashima’s story that has attracted the most notice is the claim that Martin stole 75% of NSA’s hacking tools.

    From the shadowproof link above:
“Are you arguing that the president’s decision is unreviewable?” Friedland asked. To that, Flentje said the appeals court should only look at U.S. citizens’ claims.

This is the same argument Darth Cheney made with regards to Gitmo. Only US citizens “deserve” US constitutional protections. Why don’t we go to the wayback machine and ask John Quincy Adams why he chose to represent the British soldiers after the Boston massacre?

.Everything You Need to Know About Betsy DeVos’ Education Policies

Betsy DeVos was confirmed as Secretary of Education Tuesday after a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Mike Pence. She faced staunch opposition from all Senate Democrats, who protested her nomination with
an all-night session, and even two Republicans. Here’s a closer look at the policies that made DeVos the most narrowly-approved Cabinet secretary in history, and one of Donald Trump’s most controversial
    nominations.

Exposing the Myths of Neoliberal Capitalism: An Interview With Ha-Joon Chang

Ha-Joon Chang: Gore Vidal, the American writer, once famously said that the American economic system is “free enterprise for the poor and socialism for the rich.” I think this statement very well sums up what has passed for ‘free-market capitalism’ in the last few decades, especially but not only in the US. In the last few decades, the rich have been increasingly protected from the market forces, while the poor have been more and more exposed to them.

  • Happy Thursday!

    • notisaidthepig

Good morning, Unka. The internet was down last night. I got home from work and….nothing. Turned everything off and back on (that’s the extent of my IT skills) and still nothing. I had a green light saying everything was okay so I figured the problem was at the other end. Thought it might come back quick but I headed to bed before it did. So glad to see it back up this morning. I wonder if our Overlords are…..testing….stuff. 🙁
