The Kabuki continues to unfold as expected. I’ve said it from the beginning: Republicans don’t fuck with corporate welfare programs, and neither do Democrats, so the ACA is going nowhere.

The Democrats’ central weakness comes from being a party of business far-right party, but having to pretend otherwise.

.San Diego Police Targets African American Children for Unlawful DNA Collection

Specifically targeting black children for unlawful DNA collection is a gross abuse of technology by law enforcement. But it’s exactly what the San Diego Police Department is doing, according to a lawsuit just filed by the ACLU Foundation of San Diego & Imperial Counties on behalf of one of the families affected. SDPD’s actions, as alleged in the complaint, illustrate the severe and very real threats to privacy, civil liberties, and civil rights presented by granting law enforcement access to our DNA. SDPD must stop its discriminatory abuse of DNA collection technology.

.NYPD Rapist Can’t Reduce 75-to-Life Term

A former police officer who raped a New York City schoolteacher in broad daylight drew no sympathy from New York’s highest court, which unanimously affirmed his 75-to-life sentence on Valentine’s Day.

***I suggest they stop feeding him. That would reduce his sentence considerably.***

.Two Cops from Same Dept, in 2 Days, Arrested for Rape — 1 Victim was a Child

“Isolated incident,” “a few bad apples” — these are just some of the terms used to downplay occurrences of police misconduct. “This officer is not representative of all police,” we are told when a serial rapist cop is exposed. However, when looking at actual numbers, these incidents appear to be anything but isolated. Two
recent police officer arrests last week in El Paso, Texas — both for sexual assault — back this point up quite powerfully.

.Cops Electrocute Pregnant Teen with 50,000 Volts After She Demands a Warrant to Enter Home

In an extremely disturbing video, an NYPD officer can be seen traumatizing a pregnant teen by shocking her with a stun gun. The teen was accused of resisting arrest on Friday night after she refused to let officers enter her apartment without a warrant.

Question…I don’t think Trump knows WTF he’s doing. So how *should* TPTB have dealt with Flynn? I saw headlines suggesting flynn was “politically assassinated” which has a hint of martyrdom attached to it that I don’t think he deserves.

    • From my perspective, I don’t think Trump is completely clueless, I *do* think that the Plutocratic class is spending a lot of money to portray him as such, because he is rich enough to flout their demands, and they want servants, not independent power-brokers.

Viewed outside of the hurricane of anti-Trump propaganda coming from the Plutocrats and their media outlets, I’d say he’s behaved like a pretty standard “conservative” Republican, in his appointments and rhetoric.

      • thud

They seem so dysfunctional. I think they scare the poop out of the lifers. Scare me too. You may call it a coup but I think if he demonstrated the ability to actually function this wouldn’t be happening.

        • Of course, it’s the press that makes any of the figureheads of the last 2+ decades look reasonably sane and competent, so it’s no surprise that they do a fine job smearing whoever they want.

That’s doesn’t mean Trump is some kind of people’s champion, or even moderately moral, just that he’s not approved of by the billionaires who control our nation and want to keep it that way. 🙁

          • thud

There are some real differences between the leaders and potential leaders. For example, the other day when Putin wanted to chat with Lord Trump about the START treaty and Lord Trump had to put the phone down and ask what’s he talking about. Hillary, for all we may loathe her would NOT have been so blindsided by this. This is THE most important task that a president has, keeping the nukes from flying. If that don’t spook you then what does? I’d trust Cheney and his crew of monsters over these folks.

.$100,000 vaccine challenge to be announced soon

Robert Kennedy is now chairman of a foundation called The World Mercury Project and will announce later today the project will be conducting a $100,000 journalistic challenge, which will offer one-hundred thousand dollars to any person who can point to any existing study showing that it is safe to inject mercury into children in the amount currently in vaccines.

.The text of a new Republican bill has just one line: “To terminate the US Environmental Protection Agency”

The text of a bill introduced in the US House of Representatives in early February to dramatically change the way the government regulates environmental issues was finally posted online for public viewing, and it gets right to the point. The statement of purpose for H. R. 861 is only one line long: “To terminate the
    Environmental Protection Agency.”

H.R. 861 was introduced to the House by Matt Gaetz, a Republican from Florida who took office in January. It’s co-sponsored by Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, who introduced another one-line bill last week, to “terminate the Department of Education.” The text of H.R. 899 is not yet posted online, but on his website Massie promises it has only eight words: “The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2018.”

.Flynn’s Head Rolls. Is Trump’s Next?

It seems very likely that having procured Flynn’s scalp, the political enemies of Trump will not stop there. The big prize is Trump himself and his ousting from the presidency through impeachment on charges of conspiring with an enemy state.

All the hoopla over Flynn in the US media is just the beginning of a campaign to finger Trump as the person who gave him clearance to illicitly contact the Russians.

A soft coup against Trump by the US Deep State has been speculated for some time now, especially over his «friendly» Russia policy being at odds with the powers-that-be who are hellbent on hostility towards Moscow. And it seems that incompetence within the Trump administration is playing straight into that agenda to oust him from the White House.

    • David Schultz

Back in my days it seemed like there was a constant soft coup against the Carter Administration. They had no friends with either the liberal or conservative establishment and were endlessly at war with the bureaucracy. If they coudn’t find something they would manufacture something. Some of you may be too old to remember the swimming rabbit controversies and other nonsense. This is just another Bert Lance event.

      • EdgarHF

I think most of Carter’s problem was that he brought mostly Georgia people to fill his staff instead of greasing the wheels with the D.C old boy network. I am not as keen on Carter as many people are. He did after all start the deregulation ball rolling. That said, he is a saint compared to almost anyone that is part of the Democratic establishment today.

        • towerofbabel

Back then, some politicians did seem like statesmen to me. Now they all look corrupt–to varying degrees.

          • David Schultz

The ghost of Tea Pot Dome still lingered over politics well until the Bill Clinton era. That is when the press started making light of financial donations and dirty money. The money in politics is very different now.

“I’ve said it from the beginning: Republicans don’t fuck with corporate welfare programs, and neither do Democrats, so the ACA is going nowhere.”

Both halves of the duopoly play the same game. They act like they are fighting tooth and nail when they can’t do squat. When in power the fight fades away. Remember the whining and crying for term limits in the 90s? You are absolutely right, it’s kabuki.

    Crossposted from Far-Left-Chat.

This is a wonderful lecture by Bruno Latour, delivered at Harvard last year. If you haven’t been following his intellectual explorations it may seem esoteric at first. He touches on the politics of climate change, the new human reality of the anthropocene, and the sociology of science and technology. Latour challenges the ideologies underpinning “modernism” and science that covertly rely upon religion-like dogmas. He systematically breaks down the boundaries between science, art and politics–so he is controversial to many. PersonalIy, I think that we need to break the shackles of conventional thinking to confront the problems we are facing and Latour offers new ways of thinking about our world. If you are curious, his six-lecture series for the University of Edinburgh is masterful. But be aware, his books and lectures aren’t always easy to understand because he crosses the normal boundaries of disciplinary thinking with ease.

My analysis of the power crisis in DC: Trump is used to being the john, not the working girl…discuss

    • Seems on point. I mean, while he’s just a minor pimp, in the plutocratic landscape, he’s definitely not used to being directly run by other pimps.
