Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • Your song of the day is in the main post, today. 🙁

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday, and may 2016 fuck off ASAP.

  • notisaidthepig

    Oink!

I’m glad to hear that Nina Turner will be speaking about single-payer. She’s a dynamic speaker and simply oozes authenticity. The Dims already hate her. It will be interesting to see how they will continue to undermine her, especially if she runs for mayor of Cleveland or governor of Ohio or something else. She’s such a strong supporter of the working class that she’s a real threat.

    • She’s passionate and authentic, I love her as much as I can love any politician.

  • notisaidthepig

Still trying to wrap my mind around Fisher’s death. I heard about it late yesterday just as I was heading to the airport. Wasn’t she the youngest of the triumvirate?

    • Just a decade older than me. She was only 21 when she appeared in Star Wars; she was indeed the youngest of its 3 stars.

And now I gotta go cry again. 🙁

      • Dosido3

I think she was only 19 was it was filmed. O.o
And now her poor mother is in the hospital…

  • notisaidthepig

That charging network (different than the Tesla one) will be here in Nevada (and Utah and Colorado). Kewl.

  • notisaidthepig

The North Korean android tablet sounds like a prototype for Amazon’s next generation of Fire tablets. Just kidding! (Sort of.)

    • Be careful what you “ask” for. I was wondering, while reading that article, how long before tablets bound for the US were locked down and monitored like that.

Makes me want to horde and otherwise protect my older equipment!

  • Shohanna

So this sucks I am back at the hospital w complications of my NG tube 🙁

    • 17

Sho, you gotta run from that shit as soon as you get the chance. Hospitals are where people go when they want to be killed. Believe me, time heals all wounds.

    • FaunaAndFlora

That does suck. Here’s to hoping it’s a very short stay.

    • Edwin

Sorry to hear. And you had just got home. Hope your stay isn’t too long. 🙁

    • I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ll be sending all the good energy I can muster your way, in hopes of a quick recovery!

    The Coming State of Fear

Well, it seems that any lingering question on whether or not the happenings on social media platforms are truly politically relevant can finally be put to rest. While most of us prefer the edge of communication media that cuts away from the dynamics of power, president-elect Trump has managed to do quite the opposite by giving a new twist on that classic favorite of despots everywhere: instead of rule by decree, we have rule by tweet. Despite not even being installed in office yet, the soon-to-be-leader of the United States brazenly
deployed the platform to carry out government contracting cronyism, call for the imprisonment of flag-burners, and get death-threats rained down upon a unionist who contradicted one of the incoming administration’s best narratives.

Trump, somehow, has managed to now top all these by using Twitter to announce the advent of a new nuclear arms race – a Cold War 2.0 against, oddly enough, Vladimir Putin.

    Interior Department Touts Anti-Poaching Efforts

The Department of the Interior touted progress by the United States in addressing the crisis of wildlife poaching – a threat that, combined with climate change and habitat loss, is projected to cut two-thirds of
vertebrate populations by 2020 from the previous half-century.

Though wildlife populations have declined by nearly 60 percent over the past four decades, officials credit a National Strategy by the President’s Task Force to Combat Wildlife Trafficking with having helped curb that tide over the past couple of years.

Al Jazeera is owned by the government of Qatar . Take anything they say about events in Syria with a whole lot of salt . Qatar is a U.S. ally , a participant in the effort to out Assad . U.S. forces are based there.

      • 17

Qatar is also making deals with Russia. Playing both sides is profitable.

        • kreskin

From Wikipedia ( for what it’s worth )
” Al Jazeera], literally “The Peninsula”, referring to the Arabian Peninsula , also known as JSC (Jazeera Satellite Channel), is a Doha-based state-funded broadcaster owned by the Al Jazeera Media Network, which is partly funded by the House of Thani, the ruling family of Qatar.”
” Al Jazeera has been called a propaganda outlet for the Qatari government and its foreign policy, by analysts and by news reporters, including former Al Jazeera reporters. The network is sometimes perceived to have mainly Islamist perspectives, promoting the Muslim Brotherhood, and having a pro-Sunni and an anti-Shia bias in its reporting of regional issues “

US-Qatar Deal Threatens Russia: Reading News Between the Lines

The announcement of the US-Qatar deal is a demonstration of US adamant resolve to surround the Russian Federation with BMD sites and neutralize its capability to deliver a retaliatory strike if attacked. This is a very disturbing fact. Russia will not sit idle watching the developments. The US has just taken another provocative step to undermine Russia’s security and complicate the bilateral relations.

  • Edwin

    Good morning all.

People need to watch for sugar in processed/prepared foods. That’s what I have learned. Even stuff like store bought tomato sauce can have 12 teaspoons of sugar in one small can, as can a small bottle of orange juice. They put sugar in almost everything.

    • 17

Good Mornin’ back atcha, Sir 😉

    • High-Fructose Corn Syrup is in everything here. Even bread, and some waters. Oh, and Good Morning, Ed, Win!

      • Edwin

Hiya, Unka. Of course I have watched tons of documentaries about sugar (in all its forms.) It is in everything. The only way to avoid it is to make everything from scratch. I do make a lot of my own food, but I also buy pre-made tomato sauce and a few things like that.

And I like ice cream and gummy bears, so there’s just eating straight-up sugar too.

    • Dosido3

Thanks for the reminder. Yes. Sugar in everything.

      • Edwin

Hiya. Long time no see. (I got banned at the other place.)

        • Dosido3

I thought you were “timed out”. Didn’t know about Nancy…

          • Like a 5 year-old?

          • Dosido3

I thought the rules at TTP were no banning but if people act up, they get timed out for a short time. IOW, the timed out person is allowed back, not banned for life like Crap & Losers.

          • Still seems like a prime means of arbitrarily controlling people’s behavior, like one would a small child.

But what do I know, according to those folks, I’m “An authoritarian the likes of Ricki” or some such wording. BTW: RT reset his account password here, probably seeing he could stir up any drama. sigh.

          • notisaidthepig

I don’t understand what that means, to “reset his account password.”

          • Edwin

Me neither. I might need to know for possible future planned stealth activities (after I learn about making a damned sock, something I was supposed to have done months ago.)

          • notisaidthepig

That’s what I’m wondering. Does it mean that he might be lurking around here in a form we are not used to? Why can’t these people just leave us alone and move on. Jeez.

          • Edwin

No doubt people read stuff– Ricki reads EVERYTHING

…why else do you think I post it?

          • notisaidthepig

I understand that they do. I just don’t get it. As you know, I move on and rarely look back.

          • Edwin

I am flawed and not an example to set before humankind. ^_^

          • kreskin

At least you admit it . : )

          • Edwin

nicely flawed though, right? ….. right???

            Same here.

          • Edwin

If people would stop banning me for no good reason…

Did not break TOS at any place

          • It’s easy:

            1. Make a new, free email account, at yahoo. bing, google.
            2. Log out of your current Disqus Account.
            3. Make a new Discus Account with the new email address.
            3. Login to the new Disqus account.
            4 …
            5. Profit!

          • Edwin

Is that how I would do a sock… I mean in case I wanted to visit old friends?

          • yep.

          • Well, to log in as a WordPress (site) user, as opposed to his DISQUS account (which is banned for spamming for his site, here.).

          • notisaidthepig

            Thanks, Unka.

          • Edwin

You mean like when he used to come over here and post stuff like, “Come and watch the debate at Troy,” like, as in, poaching “customers” (so to speak)? The noive!!! Yes, I noticed.

          • towerofbabel

            Tacky.

          • Edwin

I should have known when I saw the whining in The Abandoned Room. :^)

The rules for the crown aren’t fair… it’s all rigged against me…. waaah waah wahhh

          • Dosido3

Just for the record, I thought the dust up could have been rectified fairly easily if others hadn’t jumped in. Oh well. I understand people being jumpy this year given all the Brock business, but I think fellow Berners could give each other more slack. IMHO.

          • Edwin

Dust up? If you mean with me it was ongoing for one month.

If you didn’t mean me, nevermind, and sorry I spoke. :^)

          • Dosido3

No. I meant something else entirely.

          • towerofbabel

I think it helps if the Proprietor doesn’t have a Napoleon complex.

          • Edwin

          • Nah, you’re just a nice person!

          • notisaidthepig

            So are you!

          • Edwin

Thank you. I feel the same about you.

          • kreskin

            Nah , he’s right , just a suck up .

            LOL

          • towerofbabel

What does “if people act up” mean anyway? If the host or moderators can’t control themselves why bother wasting time on their site?

          • Edwin

            Yup.

          • Dosido3

Idk. Was just asking Edwin a question….

          • kreskin

As far as I know that’s true , how long the sentences are … for what infractions … that’s the question . .

          • Edwin

            LOL

          • Edwin

            My daily warning. :p

If you don’t type stuff I want to read I can “time you out” for breaking the TOS two weeks ago.

          • Edwin

As far as we know banned. Not letter or notification to let us know otherwise. I doubt Nancy will ever set foot on there again. RT was a real jerk and very rude to her. Nancy NOT happy!!!

He was a complete rude asshole to me so fuck him.

          • towerofbabel

I am going to have to corroborate that. (Sorry Unka. I know that you do not approve of this–but just this once?) I don’t mind the dust-ups. But RT basically flamed me. Banned me. Then claimed he only gave me a time out. Never apologized. So I never went back. So I see, I am not the only one. What an arrogant micro-blogger! I guess he behaves that way because the stakes are so low.

          • Edwin

I didn’t know you had been timed out. You are nice and considerate with everyone.

Sorry, Unka, but anyone who doubts just click these and Nancy got the same treatment. This is not normal.

            He seems a little nutty.

          • Edwin

I really had no opinion to speak of until he started with random attacks against me which increased in frequency the nearer we reached the end. I felt like I was being stalked and scrutinized, like prey.

          • I would advise, to see where future trouble may arise from, to go look at the comment where RT called me “just like Ricki” and see who upvoted the comment and was among the first to leave with him.

          • Edwin

I bet I know without looking.

            (I do know.)

          • Sorry, “He’s a sick twisted fuck just like Ricki.”

          • We’re OK. This is more a discussion of drama, than perpetuating it. Kind of like a post-mortem. LOL.

          • Edwin

See, the thing is, people only see bits and pieces because no one can see every single comment and no one can follow every conversation going on between people (sometimes for days on end) so they can get the wrong idea. That’s why, after I was silenced (banned), there was a 5-paragraph summation (packed full of lies) about what a horrible, miserable, untrustwirthy cretin I am.

He also just happened to highlight and put across the banner that day that I was not banned, just timed out. Nothing to see here folks. Move along.

          • Dosido3

            Oh jeez.

      • Edwin

        Nancy got banned too. :^)

Who is Supporting ISIS-Daesh in Syria? Erdogan or Obama? “Cross-Cutting Coalitions”, NATO Military Alliance in Crisis

In an unusual turn of events, Washington accuses Ankara of supporting the ISIS-Daesh.

And Turkey’s president Erdogan responds by accusing Washington of supporting ISIS-Daesh. “Now they give support to terrorist groups including Daesh, YPG, PYD. It’s very clear. We have confirmed evidence,
with pictures, photos and videos.” said Erdogan.

And Washington responds “”he [Erdogan] continues to supply arms [into Syria] as well, with his ultimate aim [being] to go after the Kurds, and ISIS is secondary.”

While Washington has strongly denied Erdogan’s latest allegations, the structure of political and military alliances is in crisis.

Inequality and Skin in the Game: The Static and the Dynamic — How to go bankrupt and be loved by the many –Piketty’s equals
    https://medium.com/@nntaleb/inequality-and-skin-in-the-game-d8f00bc0cb46#.4hs24xrde

“Inequality and Skin in the Game” [Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Medium]. “In this chapter I will propose that effectively what people resent –or should resent –is the person at the top who has no skin in the game, that is, because he doesn’t bear his allotted risk, is immune to the possibility of falling from his pedestal, exiting the income or wealth bracket, and getting to the soup kitchen. Again, on that account, the detractors of Donald Trump, when he was a candidate, failed to realize that, by advertising his episode of bankruptcy and his personal losses of close to a billion dollars, they removed the resentment (the second type of inequality) one may have towards him. There is something respectable in losing a billion dollars, provided it is your own money. In addition, someone without skin in the game –say a corporate executive with upside and no financial downside (the type to speak clearly in meetings) –is paid according to some metrics that do not necessarily reflect the health of the company; these (as we saw in Chapter x) he can manipulate, hide risks, get the bonus, then retire (or go to another company) and blame his successor for the subsequent results.”

So I’m checking in on them too. The good news is I had my annual check up and I’m doing OK. Knock wood.

Last two years have been downers for us , began with my wife’s father’s passing , six months later I lost my dad … and it didn’t stop there .

          • Dosido3

            Oh. I’m sorry, Kreskin. Hugs.

          • Edwin

            That’s rough. Sorry to hear.

          • kreskin

Both your parents alive and well , Edwin ?

          • Edwin

What do you want to know? I mention them sometimes. Maybe you just haven’t seen. My parents are alive and (mostly) well, aged 86 and 87. They are happy. Married 64 years. They were high school sweethearts, so have known each other longer than 64 years. They dated for many years before marriage. My whole family (5 kids) is very close; good friends. We’re scattered from Newfoundland to Malaysia. Between us we’ve lived in about a dozen countries. We’re just far away from each other most of the time.

          • kreskin

            86 and 87 years old , married 64 years , GOOD for them .

My dad was eighty-nine when he died , mom will be eighty-six in May . Still alive … in a nursing home , we thought we were going to lose her a while back . They were married for over sixty years also . Have a brother and sister , but you would never know it , we’ve no relationship to speak of . Bothers me , but some situations we can’t change , right ?

          • Edwin

My parents have some health issues which are to be expected at their age, but otherwise good. They’re both pretty active considering. I am lucky that all 5 of us sibs are very good friends and we enjoy being together, a lot!

          • kreskin

            A close family , yes, you are lucky . : )

          • Edwin

It’s too bad for our family as a whole that we’ve all been so scattered; at times living on 3 different continents, but my parents inspired us to travel and see the world. I guess no expected we’d move around the globe, but that’s what happened. Still none of us would trade it in either. We have very good conversations when we all get together, or most of us get together in one place (it’s rarely all of us at once.)

          • kreskin

You’re all close , love each other , that’s the main thing.

My wife is an only child , I may as well be .

          • Edwin

Yup. There are a few glitches in the mix, like every family, but, overall, not complaining.

          • kreskin

Good for you , Edwin .

Time to give my back a rest , I shall return … maybe. : )

          • Edwin

See ya later, and if I don’t, sleep well.

      • kreskin

No such thing as fairness in this life , it is what it is .

        • Chunga

          Truth be told.

    • kreskin

One day after her daughter . Wow .

    • Edwin

      🙁

      • notisaidthepig

I, along with millions of others I’m sure, loved Watership Down.

        • Edwin

I read it many years ago.

        • Dosido3

me too. One of those books I didn’t want to end.

    • FUCK. 2016 is fucking piece of shit year.

      • notisaidthepig

yep. (sorry but there’s still a few days left…)

      • kreskin

One of the worst I’ve experienced .

      bibi can go fuck himself

      Hi panem. Been a while.

      • panem et circenses

Yeah, I’ve been a bit busy with other things and burned out on news. Good to see you.

        • Edwin

It’s good to have a break. Hope you’re feeling rested and better now.

          • panem et circenses

Not really lol, but I’m working on doing some good things so it’s worth it. Also back to reading more books and essays rather than an endless cycle of news and a feedly so large I can no longer keep up with most of it.

    • kreskin

      Americans are still seeking independence.

  • panem et circenses
    • Edwin

      Ha ha. LOL.

      (Where’s 17?)

      • 17

Yeah, got it. I hear voting works, too.

    Yay, I’m 59…fuck.

    • Edwin

      Happy birthday (maybe?)

      • Shaykayvah

        Thanks.

    • Chunga

      Not far behind you. Gads

      • Shaykayvah

        Just like that, old fucker.

        • Chunga

LOL, I’m a grumpy old man, meh.

    • You’ve earned every one of those years, be proud of em! 😀

      • Shaykayvah

        Thanks, it hurts though.

    • kreskin

My wife’s birthday was today , unfortunately she is on the opposite side of the planet . : (

      Happy birthday , Shay .

      • Shaykayvah

        Thank yee, Kreskin.

    • notisaidthepig

      Happy belated!

    • Shohanna

      Happy Birthday Shay!

  • Shaykayvah

Be careful out there folks, it’s still 2016.

  • Shohanna

RIP Debbie Reynolds a day after her daughter! 🙁

    • It’s such an awfully sad and unfair thing. I really feel for Todd Fisher. It just has to be hell to lose your mother and sister in the same week.

      • Shohanna

Right? I was thinking of that as well! Damn painful to say the least.

  • Counting down to the last post of 2016, Thursday’s links are up.
