Saturday Sci-Fi – This Is Not A Test (Open Thread)

This Is Not a Test, it is a classic of the “Bomb Scare” era of the Cold War. A low-budget American motion picture released in 1962, it’s a rather unique take, featuring a small group of people on an empty road, in the middle of a hilly rural area. All the “action” is drama between the people, with none of the usual cheesy effects normally found in these films.

Starring a group of mostly unknown actors, This Is Not a Test begins with lone deputy sheriff Dan Colter (Seamon Glass) receiving orders to block a road leading into an unidentified city (dialogue indicates the location is somewhere in central California, however). Soon, he has detained several vehicles with a variety of occupants ranging from an elderly man and his granddaughter, to a man who has recently become rich and his alcoholic wife, to a trucker and a hitchhiker. The motorists and the police officer hear attack warnings over the police radio and begin to prepare for the inevitable bombing. The film focuses on the reactions to the impending attack by the motorists, and the officer’s efforts to keep order. Complicating matters is the revelation that the hitchhiker Clint Delany (Ron Starr) is a psychotic who is wanted for murder. As the countdown to the missile attack continues, the men and women try desperately to convert a supply truck into an impromptu bomb shelter. As time goes by, the deputy’s behavior becomes irrational (Gary Westfahl mentioned that the film shows the ineptness that would come from ordinary people in the face of impending nuclear attack) and the film ends with the deputy trying to enter the closed-up truck where the others have sheltered just as the nuclear strike happens.

Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • SpiffyTheValiant

    first

  • SpiffyTheValiant
    • The_Fixer

      Congratulations, My Queen!

      How’re things?

      • SpiffyTheValiant

They be okay. Contemplating when I”m going to stop procrastinating and do a couple minor annoying things. You?

        • The_Fixer

Eh, gotta work all this weekend. I have 7 speakers to recone and a backlog of work. Feeling much better today, yesterday was crap. Might go out tonight. That about sums it up.

Yes, I feel ya there. The hardest part of doing stuff is just getting the motivation sometimes. And if they weren’t annoying things, then you’d have no problem with motivation.

I vote for the banning of all annoying things, little or large.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lmao i second your vote.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Ugh, sorry to hear. I hope you have some fun at least later today.

  • Left of Eden

It’s wonderful that we live in a time when the MSM has rendered low-budget propaganda pieces unnecessary.

  • Nancy
    • SpiffyTheValiant

I’ll be shocked if she tells the truth about anything.

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I think she would explode if she did that.

        Hiya Spiffy.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          🙂 hai

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            How are you today?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            pretty good. you

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Sleepy 🙂 Supposed to be warm today as well and it feels it.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            awe <3

      • RTIII

We’ve been here before… Of COURSE she tells the truth about a lot of things!

        Some examples:

+ That she admires Henry Kissenger

        + That she loves Chelsea

+ That she’s tired of hearing about: Benghazi, email servers, the FBI and any “investigations.”

+ That she thinks TPP is the gold standard of trade agreements

+ That she thinks the banks are NOT too big to fail today even though they’re more than 50% bigger than they were the last time they failed

        … I could go on! 😉

        • SpiffyTheValiant

oh that’s right. *falls over in shock* you got me there.

        • cathyx

You forgot to mention she doesn’t lie about her name.

    • Left of Eden

Yeah, and it’s not even a good defense. I mean, if someone advises me to do something unethical, ill-advised, immoral, or illegal and I do it, it’s on ME, and NOT on those advising me. This proves, once again, that Hillary has no moral center, absolutely none.

      • Nancy

while she says she takes responsibility for her actions-she sure as hell doesn’t with all the shifting and spin and excuses she is giving…childish behaviour at best.
        afternoon Left!

        • Left of Eden

That’s right. Hillary’s telling us in one stroke that others, not she, are responsible for her actions – EXACTLY the type of excuse-making one expects from a child. Sheesh! And good day to you as well!

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

She refuses to take responsibility for anything.

      • Nancy

        nothing.
what a train wreck she is…

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I just hope she only takes out herself when she finally implodes.

          • Nancy

wishful thinking Daniel…as we have seen from other people that don’t take responsibility for their actions/thoughts, they never do and want to take everyone else down with them.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I am well aware of that, as you know, dealing with lawyers at the moment over similar things.

          • Nancy

that’s got to suck for you-I sure hope it works out in your favour.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I’m just tired of the constant stalling.

          • Nancy

that’s the name of the game in the legal system.
            that’s what they do best.

        • cathyx

Yikes. I had to scroll up to see that you weren’t talking about our last blog mistress, lol.

          • Nancy

            same/same.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            :)) me three.

  • Nancy

    wow, this is bang on:
“panem et circenses Ricki • 18 minutes ago

I don’t think anyone wants to destroy your life. Does your entire life consist of chatting online to strangers? If so, that’s sad. You seem to have at least one person that cares about you. My advice is to step away from your keyboard and try some real communication and drop all the vitriol about random people on the internet that don’t matter to your real life in the least. Unless this is fun for you. I can’t imagine that’s true though. You seem pretty miserable.

By the way, I have no side in the drama you all have between each other, and no desire to revisit it. It just seems like a lot of people are wound into knots over a bunch of bs that really doesn’t matter, and posting it on public forums. Nobody outside your tiny, insulated groups cares about your cyber-alliances, enemies or drama or see it as the huge deal you’re all making of it. Someone insulted someone, someone got insulted, someone got banned, someone jumped over and posted insults on another forum or blog, who gives a fuck? Seriously, it’s boring as fuck and childish. If you all hate each other so much, pick a parking lot and throw down, rather than being bitchy cowards huddling together to talk shit in your insignificant little chat rooms. Or you know, just avoid each other. Or don’t. Either way, later. Good luck to you.”

    • cathyx

This is how I feel about what Panem said:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

    • RTIII

“Seriously, it’s boring as fuck and childish.”

      …What I’ve been saying all along!…

    • The_Fixer

And yes, he’s right – to a point.

The big problem in dismissing this as just another online pissing battle is that some people have brought it out into the “real world.” Ask 17 and his wife about that, along with her employer.

In principle, he is absolutely correct. Yes, one should not inflame the situation, both because it is unproductive and because it can provoke a response that can snap back and hit one in the face later on. I recommend non-engagement. However, there is no such thing as being blissfully ignorant in this situation – it’s a false sense of security.

It is here, and anyone involved who does not take this seriously and protect themselves may wish that they did. We’re not dealing with totally rational people here. Regular rules of conduct, no matter how well intentioned, do not apply. Don’t engage them, yet pay attention to what they are saying and what other people are saying.

      • Nancy

you bring up valid points. I don’t think Pan is aware of the depth of damage that has gone on.

  • Yes, it likely will. YOU CAN”T TRUST BERNIE SANDERS ANY LONGER. He’s sold out to the conservatives.

Will Bernie Sanders’ ‘Our Revolution’ Finance DNC, Clinton’s Campaign?

A Monday night conference call between DNC officials and the man who led Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign has some Berniecrats worried that a donation to Sanders new 501(c)(4) organization known as “Our Revolution” would end up in the bank accounts of the Democratic National Committee or even in Hillary Clinton’s campaign fund.

  • America, as a nation, has been eating its teacher for decades, now we’re going in for the kill…

America’s cash-strapped teachers are a target for predatory lenders

Cutbacks to school funding mean that budgets for items like markers, staplers and construction paper have been slashed to the bone. One Connecticut teacher reported that her funding per child for the entire school year is now $1.60, down from $15 about a dozen years ago.

  • Well, of course it’s more than a strategy, Clinton is as much as warmonger as Cheney, Kagan or any of the other whackadoodles that started the Iraq war.

    Hillary’s Neoconservatives

Her embrace of hawks is more than an electoral strategy…. she’ll enable the implementation of a neoconservative foreign-policy agenda by casting the neoconservatives’ goals in liberal-interventionist terms, thus garnering Democratic support for initiatives that would face widespread opposition were they spearheaded by a Republican president. Lobe has written that Hillary represents “the point of convergence between liberal interventionism … and neoconservatism,” and Hillary’s willingness to empower a foreign-policy establishment featuring neoconservatives shows that they have in fact received concrete reputational benefit from lining up behind her.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Keep polishing that turd. There’s a reason people were so repulsed by W that they came out to vote for Obama as much of a douchebag that he is. Dems will definitely reap that as well.

      • On the plus side, assuming the world survives a Clinton presidency (something that’s not at all guaranteed, in my mind) a real liberal, running under the Green banner will be a shoe in. 😀

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

As long as she doesn’t put us on the wrong end of WW3.

          • That’s what I’m not so sanguine about the possibility of avoiding.

          • Blue Basilisk

If the US doesn’t stop fucking everyone over, WW3 may be the rest of the world vs. us.

        • notisaidthepig

          That’s my hope too, Unka.

      • notisaidthepig

Hopefully for a progressive party win in 2020.

    • smkngman3

“How Democrats Become the Conservative Party”

While the Times was profiling Bannon, Vox was interviewing National Security Advisor Susan Rice, who declared, “This is a much more hopeful and positive period in history than we have seen certainly in our lifetimes.” The Obama administration, Vox’s Zack Beauchamp noted astutely, believes it is overseeing “trends that make this, in their eyes, the best time in human history to be alive” and “this results in a foreign policy focused—to a degree most people don’t appreciate—on protecting this system from threats.”

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

“African Americans and Latinos are particularly optimistic.”

dafuq?! Hillary supports the Prison Industrial Complex and the racist laws they push to keep it going. Idiots!

        • RTIII

Calling them idiots or ignorant, no matter how true, doesn’t help. 🙁

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I’m a person of color who is affected by that idiocy. If they refuse to see who is clubbing them and stomping on them is not my concern.

        • notisaidthepig

          The just make stuff up.

      • RTIII

Yeah, of the threat of Progressives saving humanity’s ass.

    • Blue Basilisk

Every time the Democrats take power and have the opportunity to change things, they start courting the Neocons because “bipartisanship.” This election has presented them with a golden opportunity: Trump has scared them right out of the party and the Democrats are welcoming them with open arms and bloody hands.

    • Edwin

Neocons are so bu$hCo. Hillary’s war machine will be liberal-interventionist (headed up by all the bu$hCo. guys and a few new faces.)

Wow, how inspirational. His life reminds me of Hillary’s. Except for the fact that he didn’t face half of the challenges Hillary has in her life, of course.

      • Nancy

        lmao…
        good one Left!

    • notisaidthepig

The LOVE him in Jamaica. Of course they do. When I lived there every other corner of Kingston seemed to have a Bolt advertisement of some sort. They are very proud of him (as they should be) and can’t get enough. Can we?

      • Nancy

we love a story like that! it’s so inspiring.

    • Shohanna

I hate facebook. That’s probably why I can’t see this video. It’s not allowed to show it’s fangs. LOL

Dead in an hour: Video shows LA cops tasering grandfather who died in jail

New video footage has emerged showing the final moments of a grandfather of seven, who died less than an hour after being taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department. The clip even shows officers laughing at the man after they had tasered him.

    • I’m lucky: I live within walking distance of the best Vietnamese restaurant in the Valley. Having a nice Bahn Mi sandwich for lunch, now.

    • Annaleigh

Sounds like a nice choice to go with pot munchies! 😛

      • Nancy

        hahahaha…
hello Stephanie-I see you are in fine form this afternoon!

            shit. shit. shit. lol, thanks!

          • cathyx

You should have just edited it, then RT would have been the one who looked confused.

          • Nancy

            you are right…
that would have been funny. and mean.

          good afternoon 😉

          • smkngman3

            Hey Nancy.

I’ve been trying to find out where Hillary has been hiding, finding next to nothing.

          • smkngman3
          • Nancy

            me too!
            is she wearing a pantsuit?

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            lol

          • Nancy

            😉

          • Edwin

Why does she think wearing all one colour head to toe is a thing. (Really starting to bug me. No imagination.)

          • Nancy

it’s more slimming-two colours break up the line and she is short and dumpy so that’s never a good thing to mix it up.

          • Edwin

If it’s more slimming why does she still look like a potato?

          • Nancy

imagine how bad she’d look if it wasn’t the illusion created with all one colour?

            No worries, Edwin.
Thanks for taking the time to clarify.

          • Edwin

I scared Shohanna once too. I should be more careful. Sorry about that.

          • notisaidthepig

            AND it’s so freaking true.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • 17

We don’t ban people here. We gently nudge them off the edge of a cliff.

          • The_Fixer

There were “MacMillan and Wife”, McCloud, and Banacek.

When I was a kid, they used to have “Ellery Queen’s Minute Mysteries” on the morning drive-time AM radio. It was on the Wally Phillips morning show on WGN Radio in Chicago.

Of course, in high school, we drifted over to Larry Lujack on WLS and “Animal Stories” for our morning AM radio.

  • notisaidthepig

Based on your chart, I’d say I am a socialist.

        • So, you’d say you’re midway between an authoritarian, like Hitler or Stalin, and an absolute libertarian, like Anton LeVay, or Emma Goldman?

          • Edwin

I am a mix of all those people. Who knew?

Nope. One of my guesses was somewhere in Australia, the location was North Dakota.

          • doubleplusliberal

My best guess so far is 10.3 mi from the location.
I got Portland, Oregon…there was a road sign that identified the location as Portland. =)

My first one had a phone number that i googled, it was in the UK. The second one had writing that looked Russian on a sign. I guessed correctly. I had another one that had a store name that told me it was probably Brazil. Bingo. Then i had 2 that were simply fields. Totally missed those.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            nice

    • Chunga

8730 🙂 , but I got 0 points on the last one and since I tried playing on my iPad I couldn’t get my fat finger to get exactly where I wanted to be so instead of Cali I ended up in Mexico and Spain instead of Germany.

    • Edwin

Ha ha. I was thinking about something like this the other day.

      10136. I got 0 pts on one 🙁

      • doubleplusliberal

        That’s a really good score.

I thank my high school geography teacher.

          • doubleplusliberal

I’d love to know how well botany experts and geologists perform in comparison to the average person.

          • Edwin

My geography teacher made us look at pictures and guess where they were. Most kids shrugged their shoulders and muttered, “I dunno,” which enraged him. I always had answers like, “It looks like it is a continental grassland and probably receives minimal rainfall each year. Based on the architecture of the house in the distance it’s probably in N America somewhere.” Etc. He loved me. We had a symbiotic relationship. I was lucky to get him for 3 years at high school.

            LMAO and 100% true.

        Woohoo

        • Edwin

          ^.^

    • Edwin

Ok, so no one wants to know my second game I scored 17782 pts. One I was 7 miles away and one I was 20 miles away. They were India and Spain respectively.

        • Edwin

          Thank you.

(I changed it from crown to prize, because, well, you know.) But, what the heck. Thank you.

          • Nancy

            hahahaha….

      • cathyx

My second one was 13,668. It does depend on what kind of locations you get. some are quite impossible to guess at all where it is.

        • Edwin

I confess, one had a road sign, the other (India) was sleuthing and intuition. That one was the one I came with 7 miles of.

One was clearly poor Appalachia so I clicked WV, but it was Maryland.

Are you familiar with the work of William J. Lewinski? Unless you are a police officer, that name probably doesn’t ring a bell. It didn’t for me, either, until I learned that in many ways he is father, architect and chief defender of the modern police brutality epidemic. As founder and director of the Force Science Institute, he has trained tens of thousands of police officers to shoot first and ask questions later.

      • Hey Nancy:^) every time I sit down to post I get pulled away. How is your day going?

        • Nancy

It’s good thanks! I am getting ready for tenants and I keep procrastinating the final clean-up by posting…lol.
          how about you?

          • Went shopping at the farmers market, and local store for house supplies.

One of my sons came over for awhile. Calling other family members to check up. Pleasant relaxing day. Sun is out one moment raining the next.

Deep cleaning, I don’t blame you for putting that off that is just no fun:^)

          • Nancy

            you day sounds lovely!
yes, if I did it regularly I wouldn’t have to spend so much time at it now! oh well…

          • I remember my great aunt had this little plaque in her house. It read.

My house is clean enough to be hygienic, but messy enough to feel homey :^)

            Or something to that effect:)

          • Edwin

As I explained to my sister, cleaning at my place has been reduced to the point I am only concerned with preventing the spread of disease.

          • RTIII

you got a real out-loud chuckle at that remark! Well done! THAT is efficiency in action! 🙂

          • Edwin

I used to be a total fuss-budget and everything had to be spotless, tidy and in its place down to 1 mm. Now, I’m not. Stuff that needs to be clean is clean. The rest… meh

I hate clutter though. Stuff needs to be put away.

          • RTIII

Some people have a problem discerning the difference between filthy and messy. The former involves organic matter is a health issue the latter is just disorderly stuff.

          • I’m always amazed by what people choose to expend their energy on, and how we as human beings fail to prioritize, the important from the unimportant.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • RTIII

It’s hard to argue with that!

          • :^)

          • Nancy

that’s mine! it’s always tidy and calm…just not hyper clean.

          • The best kind of house as far as I’m concerned.

          • Nancy

            same!

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          Hey, Stephanie 🙂

          • Hey Spiffy:^) how goes your day.

The son who visited me today, is the one who likes anime. So he gave me back ground on Naruto. His favorite anime is One Piece.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I haven’t actually watched One Piece, but have heard of it.

Meh have some errands to do that i will probably just do tomorrow.

            you <3?

          • No I haven’t seen One Piece. One time he tried to get me to watch I believe the title was Guardian of the Spirit, but I was particularly busy at the time, so I couldn’t watch much of it.

I did my errands, now I get to clean and do laundry. YAY :^) <3

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            awe <3 poor stephanie.

          • It’s ok I really only have the master bathroom. :^)

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            🙂

          • Edwin

The only way I know about any anime or video games is there are powerpoint templates on the internet using these characters to teach English (ESL). I have a One Piece ppt template.

          • When I used to take this particular child out to Book Fairs or the library he would pick-out the most sensitive emotionally aware books that they had.

I loved it because he has this inpatient slightly grumpy exterior, that he possessed almost from day one, but when it comes to art, literature or if somebody was in pain or needed help he has a soft interior.

      • Edwin

These picture ones really show how fucked up everything is very simply.

        • Hi Edwin:^) hope the day is treating you well.

“5,441 & Counting: Cancer Diagnoses In CDC’s Post-9/11 Health Program Triple”

As the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks approaches, a government program designed to help survivors receive health care is seeing a dramatic increase in cancer patients.

Based on figures released on June 30 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Trade Center Health Program has enrolled over 5,441 people diagnosed with cancers linked to 9/11.

“That’s triple the number of people enrolled with cancer diagnoses since January 2014, when 1,822 had signed up,” CNN’s Laura Ly noted on Monday.

“Peruvian Farmer Takes Stand Against Gold-Mining Corporation: “I Will Never Give Up My Land”

On 9 August 2011, Yanacocha’s engineers came back with heavy machinery and a large contingent of riot police and soldiers. To prevent further damage to our property, my youngest daughter knelt down in front of one of the company’s bulldozers. They became like lions. They kicked us all over our bodies… They beat my daughter and me without compassion. They left us lying bloodied and unconscious on the ground. If that were not enough, the police had their machine guns pointed at the heads of my husband and youngest son. My eldest daughter recorded all this with her mobile phone.

    Summertime weekend afternoon cocktail hour!

    I’m having a bloody mary! 🙂

    • cathyx

I’m going to join you RT. Except not a bloody mary, don’t like those.

      • So what’s your choice of poison.

        • cathyx

Normally red wine, but since it’s so hot, i’m having a Mikes hard blackcherry lemonade. But i also love beer.

          • I like my chunky Chardonnay, as I’ve heard it referred to by experts, and hard apple cider.

I’ve tried to like beer we have an artisan Brewhouse in the town next to me and you could taste test… I tried, I tried really hard to find one that I like. I ended up getting wine at a place that makes beer:/

          • cathyx

They have lots of flavored beers now that don’t taste much like beer at all. Fruit flavored, they taste like wine coolers to me.

          • I was out one night with coworkers grabbing a bite to eat. I didn’t order it, but I had a sip of somebody who had ordered a pumpkin beer I thought that was pretty good.

I do hate wine coolers though…too sweet

          • RTIII

To me, “wine cooler” = some made-up bullshit to make big corporations money off of unsophisticated, ignorant buyers.

          • RTIII

Those ARE beer, just not “American” piss-water beer.

They’re very popular in Belgian, and the Netherlands and northern France. Some include Krek-bier, one of my favorites, among many others. You can find them here in CA in “Beverages and More” and other alcohol-specialty shops…

Somehow, unfortunately, the USA latched on to Pisner beers, which are pretty good but only ONE type of beer, and then had big industry destroy it with bad mass-production and huge marketing for WAY too long…

          • cathyx

We have them all over the place here too. I tried one in amsterdam that i really liked, i tried to find it here and i couldn’t. I need to look again since it’s been a couple of years and there is more variety now.

    • Hi RTIII:^)

  • Left of Eden

Major meltdown going down at TBR. Now exactly sure what happened there, just bailed when the drama hit the fan. Are Nebdem and Ricki the same person? Pretty weird stuff.

    • cathyx

I don’t believe they are the same person.

      • Edwin

That we have to ask is quite something.

        • cathyx

She does have lots of sockpuppets, but i don’t think Neb is one of them.

          • Edwin

I’m just me, Edwin. No other personalities out there floating around. One is enough.

          • Sockpuppets are just too much trouble to maintain, for me. Logging out, Logging in, different IPs, and on and on. So much hassle for so little benefit.

          • Edwin

And all for nothing. Yet, mess with me and I’ll kick you in the nuts a few times!! :~>

          • kreskin

          • I was accused one time of having a sockpuppet.

I was debating this person and another poster was upvoting me almost the exact second that my posts would load. It caused suspicion, hence the accusation.

I called him out on the accusation and we’ve never had a problem since.

      • kreskin

OculusVeritas is seemingly oblivious . Funny .

        • Nancy

I find his posting really bizarre. almost obsessive.

          • kreskin

He’s the one who gave me the link here . I showed up right after the big blow out , the place was deserted , I had no idea what had happened.

          • Nancy

he came here and was questioned about why he wasn’t banned for posting here like the rest of us were. he was evasive, non committal and left when challenged with direct questions.
            totally curious.
the very fact that he gave you the link and didn’t get banned told us all we needed to know.
lol, I told him it looked suspicious and that we were wondering if he was a mole or a spy. he didn’t answer, left and hasn’t returned.

          • kreskin

            I was never banned , I may be now , I don’t know .

          • Nancy

anyone that dropped the link was and it was deleted.
I was and then reinstated for some reason.
just about everyone else was banned.

          • kreskin

I don’t think I ever did that . Everyone was already gone by the time I discovered what had happened. Neb or Riki actually gave someone the link here the other night … I think it was Riki .

          • Wouldn’t need to, really. They likely knew about this place through someone’s profiles. Anyone they might be stalkerating, who’s profile is not hidden, would show them as frequenting this community.

Hell, they may have known about it from when they jumped me for offering to put up a WordPress front end, for their community, which was like 4 months ago!

          • What does it mean to drop a link? How would you do that.

          • kreskin

In this case she’s referring to someone / anyone posting the link to this place … at TBR.

If I were to give you the link to TBR here and now I’d be doing the same thing .

          • Ty

          • Nancy

            posting the link to here.

          • Okay now I get it.

      • cathyx

And she still hasn’t stopped taking that money. It will only start if she gets elected.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          indeed.

    • Nancy

she is a liar…why would anyone believe a thing she says?

      • notisaidthepig

That’s a question for the ages, Nancy. Why indeed. I don’t get how she has as much support as she does. Having said that, I don’t believe she has as much as they would like us to believe she does. Those poll numbers are VERY suspect, methinks. Nothing can be trusted when she has the media in her pocket.

        • Nancy

right…she lies about that too. they rigged the primary with lies and spin…they are doing the same thing with the election.

      • towerofbabel

It seems an awful lot of people really want to believe whatever yarn they spin. Apparently, it would cause too much cognitive dissonance to actually think for themselves. I say that not in the abstract, but looking at all of the people I work with day to day. • I was an at-home mother when my children were very young.

But my heart has always ached for women who have had to work a full-time job and have a newborn that is my number one goal as a feminist is to get a paid maternity leave and preferably more than 6 weeks.

      • notisaidthepig

I can’t think of anything more important that being at home when you have a newborn.

        • I also believe in as Europe leave for the father as well.

Maternity Leave and Benefits in Russia

Information on maternity leave and job protection in Russia…

Maternity leave normally given under Russia labour law is 140 days at 100 percent of the salary – 70 days before the birth and 70 days after. This can increase to 194 days in the event of multiple pregnancies or complications – 84 days before the birth and 110 days after it for multiple births (such as twins or triplets) or 86 days after the birth if there are any complications.

Employees have the right to return to work during the full period of paid or unpaid leave and it is possible to extend maternity leave to a maximum of three years without losing a job.

Maternity leave and benefits are the responsibility of the Social Insurance Fund (Fond Socialnovo Strahovanya Rosiyskoy Federaciy / Фонд Социального Страхования Российской Федерации).

      • Edwin

I think the way it works in Canada is you get 6 months (?) and you collect unemployment insurance. Your employer is required to save your job, by law, (but sometimes that doesn’t happen.)

        • Here in America a pregnancy is treated as a short-term disability.

It does offer women protection from losing her job and accommodations within the job to meet whatever limitations she may be experiencing.

A woman is given six weeks unpaid maternity leave for a normal delivery and birth and 8 weeks for a cesarean.

Pregnancy is viewed totally as a physical condition.

Maternity paternal leave has no consideration for the child or father and only physical consideration for the mother.

I love it when people preach Family Values and yet won’t support paid leave for the mother and the father. FT

          • cathyx

Sounds like the insurance industry wrote that.

          • It was our legislature that was trying to skirt around the issue of accommodating the family in any way shape or form.

        • Nancy

          now it’s a year.
          same conditions.

    • Nancy

we had it for 6 months 22 years ago and now we get a full year…not even sure when that started but it’s been for a few years. paid with Employment Insurance benefits.

      • notisaidthepig

That sounds pretty reasonable to me. That first year is SO important. Parents need to be there and need to know their jobs are safe. Why is it so wrong to invest in our children, our future?

        • Nancy

we also then receive monthly “baby cheques” from our government based on our income.
it’s really chile focused-it could be better, but it’s a hell of a start.

        • Because I was married to a man who could afford a one income household I was treated with respect and dignity as an at home mother

          “It’s the hardest job”

Those same people if a woman was supported by the state while she was caring for her young needed to go out get a job and make something out herself.

Don’t think I didn’t notice the hypocrisy in that…we either value our families and the people who care for them or we don’t.

“Honduras Family Sue US Over ‘Inhumane’ Treatment in Detention”

During their detention, they were forced to sleep at times on the floor and with lights on, harassed by staff at night and held in crowded, wet and cold rooms, according to the lawsuit filed in federal court in Newark, New Jersey. The boy suffers from asthma, it said.

They also were prevented access to lawyers and kept in the dark as to the husband’s whereabouts, it said.

The civil lawsuit comes as U.S. authorities struggle to contain a surge of migrants fleeing gang violence in Central America.

          • cathyx

            Screw the democrats. They’re losers.

          • They’re right-wing authoritarians. Can’t vote for that.

          • Democrats are not the issue here… the issue is whether they are progressive Democrat vs neoliberal Democrat.

          • The wily “Progressive Democrat,” IMO, is a chimera, composed soley of politicans’ rhetoric and voters desire to believe. One need only look at Sanders’ and Warren’s vigorous support for Hillary Clinton

          • kreskin

Forget anyone with a D or an R by their name . Lesson learned … or should be .

          • Parties don’t matter to me.

There a tool if we can change the Democratic Party to further Progressive values great, if we need to start a new party or bolster up a progressive third party that is already in existence to further Progressive values fine.

Whichever way works is the way I will be going as it stands now I’m supporting brand new Congress, Our Revolution, and Green Party.

I will support any group who supports Progressive policies and oppose neoliberal policies until they are realized.

How does this not make sense if Hillary Clinton becomes our president or Trump Congress will be our only Avenue and our only defense Our Revolution and Brand New Congress is the only tool that we will have in 2018 too oppose either Hillary or Trump.

Building up the Green party will give Hillary and Trump presidential opposition in 2020.

          • But, as you could see from the article I posted at the start of this thread. “Our Revolution” despite it’s insistence to the contrary is clearly going to give monetary aid and succor to the conservatives of the Democratic party. So, yeah, parties do matter, when one of them pretends to support a set of values, but is just talking through their hat, you have to avoid anyone, like Sanders and his machinery, that support those parties.

          • I actually didn’t see the link that you posted.

As of yet I’ve given more money to brand new Congress then I have our Revolution, and the green party most of all.

My one hesitation in supporting our Revolution would be that the money given to that organization would make its way to the Democratic party.

I am extremely flexible the moment that I feel that an institution is not supporting my values they will lose my support.

          • Will Bernie Sanders’ “Our Revolution” Finance DNC, Clinton’s Campaign?

The tl;dr is: Despite bloviating by Jeff Weaver to the Contrary, Yes.

          • That’s not how I interpreted the article, Unka.
It appears that Bernie made assurances that the money would not go to Hillary Clinton’s campaign or the DNC. He also would support independent candidates outside of Democratic Party.

~No money will be diverted to the DNC or Secretary Clinton’s campaign,” a representative from Sanders’ team stated about Our Revolution. “It is extremely important that we keep our movement together, that we hold public officials accountable and that we elect progressive candidates to office at the federal, state, and local level who will stand with us.”
Sanders’ team says on a fundraising memo that his own energies will mostly be invested in campaigning for lawmakers who have said that they will fight the current system.
“You should know that Bernie intends to be actively campaigning throughout this election season to elect candidates who will stand by our agenda, and we hope to see many of you at events from coast to coast.”
Our Revolution, according to Politico, will be run by Shannon Jackson. The organization will recruit, train, and support progressive candidates. Sanders says that he would be backing dozens of progressive candidates during this election cycle and beyond, including progressives running for local school board. Politico reported that when Sanders said he would not limit his support to progressive Democrats and that Our Revolution would also support non-Democrats who stood for the same ideals as he had been fighting for for decades, he drew the ire of Democratic leaders.~

Obama did that, I voted for him the first time. I did not vote for him the 2nd time. I knew better. And so should you.

          • Bernie is a man of conscience who believes that Trump will be the worst option for president, you guys believe Hillary Clinton will be. I believe they both are.

Bernie is still supporting the causes and beliefs that he has championed his entire life. Unlike Obama who said one thing to get into office and then did the exact opposite. That’s just how I interpret the events, and evaluate the people. Love you Sho <3

It’s hard for me to get into a relative unknown who has no chance . I’ll go ahead and vote for her , regardless.

          • notisaidthepig

I hear you, Kreskin. And thank YOU because we need Stein to reach at the very least 5% nationally so they can get federal matching funds and will automatically be on the ballot in all 50 states for 2020. The Greens I think will continue to grow in popularity because the Dems will not change their ways. Remember that Bernie started with a 60% deficit. Stein can make some headway even if right now it seems she can’t.

          • I’ve had the growing feeling that my escape to N.WA is now quickly turning from an escape to a wet and cold weather area, to the conditions that prevailed in AZ when I was a child. Better than the Arrakis-like conditions that are becoming the norm here now, though . 🙁

          • cathyx

You should start dreaming about an escape to either Alaska or Canada at this point.

          • I don’t disagree. Alaska though is having its own problems, because the hotter weather is messing with their ecosystem is a BIG way and Canada requires money or work to enter, as a long term option. I’m trying to move as close to Canada as I can, and hope that if things get VERY bad, the attendant social breakdown will ease my entry. LOL.

I’m single. I try not to fart in bed, too.

That’s the thing to go anywhere these days, you need $$$. All these people that think they’ll just move fro the USA to wherever they want are going to be very disappointed.

It sounds like you’ve thought a lot about this, lol.

          • Edwin

            I’m thinking, Yes.

          • Well, I’m old and getting older and my fear is that I don’t want to be 70 and fighting 20 year olds for resources, in big cities, if things get really bad and fall apart. And, as RT will tell you when he’s got time, things could get really bad, really quick without notice, and I can assure you, our much vaunted civilization is way more fragile than we ever want to think about.

And, beside those reasons, living in a cabin in the woods in Northern Washington state is a beautiful, peaceful and fulfilling retirement plan and I want, like Thoreau, to “live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”

          • Walden is one of my all-time favorite books.

          • It is, to me, inspiring in a way which few works of literature or philosophy are.

          • Much the same here.

Dry heat / heat with humidity .. big difference.

          • I know, I’ve spent a good deal of time in Seattle and its suburbs. And Phoenix was never the “dry heat” people liked to ascribe to it, except in the early summer (June, July). We have/had “Monsoons” which dumped huge amounts of water on us, though that’s become more rare in recent years.

          • kreskin

I’ve been on the east side of the state when it’s over a hundred , but it’s so much drier over there, isn’t that bad.

          • notisaidthepig

I lived in Phoenix back in ’86 and I remember it being dry. Am I misremembering?

          • Well, compared to someplace like Seattle, it was “dry” even then. But “dry” doesn’t begin to describe recent years. Did you not live through a monsoon season (August/September)?

/it may have been a dry season even then: For me “childhood” means the 70s, I was 20, in 1986. 🙂

          • notisaidthepig

No, there was no monsoon when I was there in ’86 and ’87.

          • kreskin

            We’re talking humidity , not rainfall .

          • kreskin

Last summer was real bad , heat / drought . Trees dying . Broke records . Were you here ?

“The Bizarre Media Blackout Of Hacked George Soros Documents”

“Scandal: Leaked documents released a few days ago provide juicy insider details of how a fabulously rich businessman has been using his money to influence elections in Europe, underwrite an extremist group, target U.S. citizens who disagreed with him, dictate foreign policy, and try to sway a Supreme Court ruling, among other things. Pretty compelling stuff, right?

Not if it involves leftist billionaire George Soros. In this case, the mainstream press couldn’t care less.”

  • A quick shot of my front yard, right now.

    • Nancy

      how often does this happen?

      • Well, that’s a question. When I was younger, hail happened often enough, even snow, in the fall and winter months. The last couple decades though “summer” weather has been extending itself further and further into the year. Last December, for example we stayed into the 90s/100s through to December, but when I was a child, those top temps were more like the 50s/60s, with, every few years, the north part of the city getting snow.

NOW, though, the contrast is it was in the high 90s/100s earlier today and now hailing. Weather is getting highly un-predictable, even as the average gets hotter and hotter.

        • Nancy

that’s a very great change over a short (relatively speaking) amount of time.

        • towerofbabel

I think it was smokie that posted that image of the chaotic weather patterns since the jet stream broke down. The weather maps are a mess. Scientist James Lovelock has some seriously terrifying predictions about imminent climate-chaos as the biosphere loses the capacity to respond to the rapid changes.

“Judge recommends criminal contempt charges for Sheriff Joe Arpaio”

The judge decided on Friday, after delaying the decision in May, that he would refer Arpaio to the U.S. Attorney’s Office to be charged with criminal contempt.

Snow had ruled earlier that Arpaio and top aides had a “persistent disregard” for court-ordered reforms after an investigation found systematic discrimination against Latinos at traffic stops.

On Friday the judge ruled that the issue should be taken up at the criminal level and also implicated Chief Deputy Jerry Sheridan, Arpaio’s former defense attorney Michele Iafrate and Capt. Steve Bailey.

“Baffled Scots cops call in priest to deal with unruly spirits”

Scottish Police have been forced to turn to the Catholic Church after a family in South Lanarkshire were apparently subjected to a campaign of terror by a Chihuahua-levitating poltergeist.

According to the Scottish Daily Record, police attended a house in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire on August 8 and 9, following reports of disturbances. According to the paper, the experienced cops were expecting to deal with some form of mental disturbance.

However, when they arrived, the cops themselves apparently “witnessed lights going off, clothes flying across the room…”. Oven doors were apparently opening and closing of their own accord, while lampshades were turned upside down.

“Nobody expects… a surprise haemorrhoid operation”

Wang thought he was going to help his wife with the delivery of their child but then medics asked him to drop his pants and jump onto the operating table.

“It felt strange, and I asked why,” he was reporting as saying. “They just said, “Just do what we tell you”. One operation later and the 29-year-old gent was rid of the piles he didn’t know he had.

“When I was on the operating table I heard a baby crying and I was very happy, and I wanted to hold it,” he reportedly told the Chinese Business Morning View. “But I couldn’t move because I started to feel pain.”

Accordingly, the hospital offered Wang 5,000 yuan (£580) for the butt nugget expulsion. It said the blunder “should be shouldered by both parties, since Mr Wang is a grown man”.

Company Owned by Pro-Israel Clinton Mega-Donor Haim Saban Just Bought Gawker Media’s Assets
Univision announced the $135 million deal on Thursday.

Saban’s purchase of Gawker Media Group’s assets is notable given his role as a powerful pro-Israel figure in the Democratic Party. Saban has been open about his singular political focus, telling the New Yorker in 2010, “I’m a one-issue guy, and my issue is Israel.”

Saban is one of the top donors to the Democratic party under both the Obama and Clinton administrations.

Disclosures available on OpenSecrets.org reveal that Haim Saban and his wife Cheryl gave $5
million to the Hillary Clinton’s Super PAC—Priorities USA Action—between 2015 and 2016. Of that sum, at least $3 million was contributed following Clinton’s letter to Haim Saban in July of 2015, in which she sought advice on “how we can work together” to defeat the growing movement to Boycott, Divest from, and Sanction (BDS) Israel.

Anyone can learn to read and write in Korea very quickly. It’s not complicated like Chinese and Japanese where you need to learn 3,000 characters. There are only 24 in Korean (Hangul). There are more vowel combinations than shown here, but there are the basic letters.

    http://www.wright-house.com/korean/korean-graphics/hangul-basic.jpg

    https://mannamkorean.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/hangul.png

    • How does one decide the arrangement of letters in a word?

      • Edwin

        장미

OK, so I said this is rose – jang mi

        Each chunk is a syllable.

part one is ‘jang’/장, part 2 is ‘mi’/미

        • Sorry, I should have said “syllable”. In the Image above, the syllable “Han” has the “h” and the “a” next to each other, but the “n” is below them. And “Gul” is arranged, if I’m reading it right, vertically.

          • Edwin

I can’t find a template online. When you’re learning there are 2 box, 3 box, 4 box and 5 box templates for where to place the letters and it comes naturally very quickly. It’s a CVC, order.

The more letters you add, the more you adjust the size of the letters so they all fit in one syllable space.

It’s hard to explain online without pics, but it’s quite simple.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            It’s definitely interesting.

          • Edwin

They make a bit to-do about it here. Hangul (alphabet name) day is a national holiday; we get a day off, hurray. King Sejong ordered a Korean alphabet in 1446 and scholars put this together.

See, the thing is, because it is only 24 letters, not 3,000+, it meant literacy and education was available to all, not just the wealthy. Koreans pride themselves on education. About the worst insult you can give a Korean is to say, “You have no education.”

This is a common motif (art): Scholar’s Accoutrements. See all the educational scrolls and stuff.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            Yep 🙂

          • Edwin

Korea has a 5,000 y.o. culture. They had the printing press before Europe. They also were advanced in astronomy and all sorts of other things. They hate that people don’t know these things about Korea.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

My former boss at Intel is Korean, great guy too. Escaped from Portland for the weekend, got really hot today.

          • Edwin

You escaped? I hope you found somewhere cool.

It’s still very hot here, but the humidity is down a bit so I am fine today. It’s only 95*f today. 😀 (as long as it’s dry it’s not to bad)

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I’m in Seattle, sorry meant my boss. Still warm here (26) but not as bad as Portland was today. I’m also right next to the sound so I get the ocean breeze.

If I could send some nice cool air to you I would.

          • Edwin

It’s a bit gross going through this in August, but boy do I appreciate autumn once it arrives (my favourite season x10). One day, soon, cool air will blow in and it will all change. Then it’s heavenly through November. This is at one of the palaces in Seoul.

            http://packagekorea.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/etc_gyeongbokgung_autumn.jpg

          • Very pretty.

HEY! I meant to tell you: I got a “reported” and downvoted post of yours. It was the one about The site full of criminals and prevaricators, that has a link to the chief dissembler’s article about Gingrich.

Looks like someone over there follows all referrer URLs to his posts. ROFLMAO!

          • Edwin

Does that mean that they’re pissed at me back in the old country?

(Does that mean because I posted a link to their site they can track it back to the source, its origin??)

          • The latter. Every time you click a link on any site, the “Hyper Text Transport Protocol” request for the linked URL includes a “REFERRER” field with the page the link was on. So that means the destination web-server would have noted the Disqus thread the link was on.

BUT: To see that data, you’d have to be the person in control of the Website, the one who looks at the server logs (or, more likely, reports created from said logs), so that means, somebody (named John) saw you comment with the link and got a mad-on.

            I laugh at his tears.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            A hate boner, great.

          • Edwin

I wonder how many hate boners I have given Karoli??? I would sooooooo like to know.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Bad Edwin! Don’t get nasty images stuck in my brain 😛

          • Edwin

During my second interrogation with they who shall not be mentioned, they said they got a letter from Roxanne (I don’t know Roxanne) so I asked if they got a letter from Karoli and they got very angry and very evasive. I took it to mean they had received a letter from her (and that could have been what started the whole affair.)

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

This whole thing of trying to shut down people who don’t bow down to her crookedness is such utter bs. Fascists.

          • Edwin

No democracy or freedom of speech on the net ……….(except at Unka’s)

          • Done. See Top of Thread. 🙂

            * I once accidentally typed “Carol” in a reply to Karoli and she went nuts.

          • Edwin

Ha ha. The way I see it is all these blogs have been acting like fucking asshole-dictators and they chucked us all in the garbage. Why should we pussy foot around and be nice to the fuckers? Fuck them.

They need to feel some ‘pain’. Fuckers.

          • Edwin

Awesome. LMFAO. Beautiful. Ha ha ha ha.

See, he should have answered my very polite emails way back when but he ignored me like I was scum. Fuck him.

Is it a problem for you?

          • No, seriously:

            https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/a2/08/a8/a208a8dce6aa7a144cf4f9839af9f72b.jpg

And he earned my enmity through the disrespect and maltreatment showed me by him and his servitors.

          • Edwin

            So carry on?

            full speed ahead? 😀

            Or… (you da boss)

          • Oh, hell yeah. I despise them. As Devo says, “Spank the Panks who try to drive you nuts.” In fact, I’m going to do that, right now.

            😀

** obviously I wouldn’t encourage doing anything illegal, but I trust you to know what those limits are.

          • Edwin

            Illegal? Like what?

          • Oh, I don’t know. Hacking or SWATting, or something like that. Like I said, I well trust you to know such limits.

          • Edwin

Can’t hack, don’t know what swatting is. Haven’t even mastered socks yet (nor am I interested.)

I’m happy being loud-mouthed, ornery, obstreperous and cantankerous .

          • FYI: Swatting is calling the cops and pretending that your target is in some situation requiring a SWAT team, resulting in armed intrusion into their home, etc.

NEVER DO THIS, not that you would.

          • Edwin

I’ll stick with the fashion police. A few snotty texts/tweets sent and done.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            It is pretty.

          • Edwin

I like all the old traditional stuff. And the countryside is pretty when you go into the mountains.

          • I actually knew that about Korea, though not the details (the several places I saw the factoid always just said something to the effect of “…because Korea used a simplified alphabet…”)

          • Edwin

It’s quite remarkable when you think they took their spoken language which had hitherto been written using Chinese characters and they boiled it all down to 24 letters everyone could learn. I self-taught myself the alphabet in the first 2 weeks I was here, from a book. I was reading road signs in week 3.

          • Yeah, alphabets are easy. (edit: for me) It’s always goddamned vocabulary that requires work and continued, practical use, to master.

          • Edwin

I don’t speak Korean. I started taking classes at least 3 times and got interrupted and had to stop. Then I just kinda left it for so many years I gave up. You can’t learn just by listening, you need to study. But I can make all the right sounds, which is tricky in Korean.

          • I’ve studied a little Chinese. It’s tough. Way tougher than just the different ways, for example, Russians place their inflection: For Example: Russians place the interrogative inflection on the question word, not the last word of a question, but it’s the same inflection as in English, not some variable rising or falling inflection, like Chinese.

          • Edwin

Korean is flat like Japanese and I can’t help but put tones in (which makes them not understand me and also sometimes to laugh). I speak a bit of Korean. You really have to move your mouth: none of this lazy English style. And there are 5 levels of honorifics depending on who is speaking to whom and what their social stations are (which actually is quite easy to pick up on.) Plus it’s just darn complicated.

          • Edwin

        Magnet for Money.

      • 17

What struck me is why they would use an anti-actor like Jeff Goldblum. Couldn’t get a real actor?

        • Edwin

It’s not just me. I can’t stand him in movies. >>bleck<<

  • Oh my. It looks like Amato has written another poorly thought out screed about his suppressed love of Donald Trump.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Thanks, I think I’ll skip it 🙂

I don’t get how they think their candidate is so great that they have to keep tearing down other people.

      • See down thread in my note to Edwin we were commenting on.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          I’ve been reading 🙂

    • Edwin

The one he put up yesterday about Newt Gingrich being a super-nice guy really took the cake. Doesn’t get much douchier than that.

Sold his soul for a few pieces of silver. What a hack.

  • AND! It looks like Carol is pumping the Trump Love That Is Forbidden, as well…

    http://crooksandliars.com/2016/08/hillary-clinton-eviscerates-trump-over-his

    • Edwin

I saw that headline and scrolled past fast before I puked. I’m telling you, she’s the laziest editor on the web. Brock feed comes in, she clicks post, and done.

Don’t believe all this bullshit she says about being “busy busy” -(Ha!)- and “multi-tasking.” She only used those lame-assed excuses when I caught her telling obvious lies (about me). Never apologized for the lies, either. Yeah, that’s right. I know and you know, KK.

      • Well, we all know what giant liars they are, starting with their bald-faced lies about Madrak not being a Clinton shill.

        • Edwin

Not just Madrak. The lies about not being in the tank for anyone were very very insulting. What’s even more insulting is, after all that has happened, they still cling to those very same lies.

          • Oh, agreed, not just those lies, but they were the first in a giant string of them, this election season.

          • Edwin

I remember all the threads and can link to them in seconds. (Trust me!!!)

            I have a few favourites.

          • You should write an article/post, linking them together, to draw a distinct narrative about the dishonesty of so-called “liberal” bloggers, this election season!

          • Edwin

I can think about it. I only know from C&L though. Mind you there are enough lies there to fill several volumes. The deceit they practiced is breathtaking.

          • C&L makes the perfect example, a diagram, if you will of how it works on other sites. Your detailed view of how it went down there would give you detailed insight. You can always work up a draft, and I’d be happy to throw any advice or editing you wanted your way. And I’m sure plenty of folks here would be happy to hash their memories out with you. We can use the “Staff Forums” on the site (which no one see, unless I’ve approved them as a site author) to do the hashing in private!

          • Anywho, I gotta crash. Got an early game (D&D) tomorrow. We can talk some more later., I think it’s a great idea for an expose and you’ve got both the close-in experience and passion(ate hatred) to make it a great one!

          • Edwin

            I. don’t. hate. anyone. (except for one or two like bush and blair).

I’m just sick of these people that yank your chain and toss you aside like garbage through the power of their ban-hammer. It gives me great pleasure to think of our esteemed friends back in the old country sitting around pouting with major hate-boners. That means I WIN!

Good night. Fun evening. See you tomorrow.

          • OK, but you do hate what they do, and why, right? That’s what I really meant. 🙂

          • Edwin

People toss around the word hate too easily. I try not to hate people. Been doing so for decades. I don’t even know if I really hate anyone, but some people make me really really mad!

I had a peek in the cave that used to be a blog and at least one of the trolls is active and grumbling. I think it is a place to drunk-post music now. (not pretty)

  • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

    Anyhoo, going to bed, laters.

    • Edwin

Good night, Toad. Pleasant weekend sleeping.

    Something else to worry about

    Sand Wars (documentary 1.14.17)

Needed for concrete … It’s also a central ingredient to creating optic fiber cables, smartphones, and computer chips. And just like oil, sand is a finite resource. So what are the consequences of sacrificing coastlines, beaches and oceans to mine sand for the global economy? Based on encounters with ‘sand smugglers,’ barefoot millionaires, corrupt politicians, unscrupulous real estate developers and environmentalists…

Good morning. All quiet last night.

Drunk-posting music binge in the troll cave.

      Off to bed. G’night.

      • 17

Thanks for your vigilence, good sir! Yes, I see last night was his turn, that means the “other” has the shift tonight. Should be a good one, as she never disappoints.

        • Edwin

Up again. Too hot to sleep.

          • cathyx

Sorry to hear that Edwin, but good morning to you.

          • Edwin

            Good morning.

I’ll be headed back to bed. I was asleep and then I woke up. It’s only 10:30 pm here. Long night ahead.

          • cathyx

wet your hair, that always helped me.

          • Edwin

Thx for tip. I took a shower before I went to bed. I do every night these days.

        • Edwin

Can you see who downvotes and who flags with your mod status?

No. just that a comment WAS flagged. Not WHO flagged it.

    • “This is not organized political resistance.”

While organized political resistance is necessary, to change the political structures that’re holding humanity back from properly addressing climate change, I think organized cooperation is what’s need to actually prevent climate change from destroying humanity, and some of that cooperation certainly does mean taking responsibility for conserving what are becoming much rarer resources.

Foundation Ties Bedevil Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/21/us/politics/hillary-clinton-presidential-campaign-charity.html

    • notisaidthepig

Of course her campaign is “bedeviled” but it doesn’t seem to matter. Her poll numbers are up. Isn’t that what we are told? smdh

      • Edwin

        I’m not voting for her.

        • notisaidthepig

Neither am I. In fact, I think lots and lots of people didn’t vote for her in the primaries and lots and lots won’t be voting for her in the general. Still she’s ahead of everyone.

          Isn’t that interesting?

          • Edwin

One thing this election has taught me is everyone lies. It’s all orchestrated by PR groups whose interests are not the same as yours.

          • notisaidthepig

It’s been an education, that’s for sure.

          • Edwin

Even the few you thought you could count on…. Nope.

  • Edwin

Shouldn’t everyone on your side of the world be up by now? Where is everyone?

    • notisaidthepig

Yep. It’s 7:38amPST so it’s a decent hour. Still, people do like to sleep in. I might be going back to bed myself. Not to sleep but to read. Like snuggling and getting lost in a book. Later! 😉

      • Edwin

        That’s cool. Enjoy your snuggling.

    • 17

      Everyone here goes to church.

      • cathyx

I’ve asked that same question. I’ve been up and I’m on the west coast. What the hell is wrong with the east coast people?

        • Edwin

          Yes. Right.

      • Edwin

Aha!! That’s right. It’s Sunday morning for you guys.

Anyway. I’m going back to bed. I should be able to get back to sleep now. (The TV said today was the hottest. I didn’t think so, but maybe I’m getting used to this shit.)

      • cathyx

I don’t think that many people on this board go to church.

        • 17

Just you, Cathy. You will surely burn in hell.

          • cathyx

I’m pretty sure you’re not replying from the church pew yourself.
