Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • cathyx

    First

  • Shohanna

Morning. Doctor’s appointment in a bit. Then when I get back I get to crash. I hate it when I am on the wrong schedule and have an afternoon appointment! :/

    • MsPythia

Good luck at the doctor Sho. And have a good rest. 🙂

  • cathyx
    • And only one of them makes any sense to be wearing at a beach!

      • cathyx

But none of them should be outlawed. For me it’s a WTF? who cares what someone wants to wear?

        • MsPythia

Men like to police women’s clothing and dictate to them — makes them feel powerful and in control of us.

          • cathyx

Yes, it used to be that we were showing too much, now it’s not enough.

          • MsPythia

I guess even women who are burn or accident victims can’t cover up on the beach. Can’t go to the beach unless you’re willing to show everything to policeman walking the beach with guns to make sure that woman are properly uncovered enough.

          • cathyx

            That could get rather kinky.

          • MsPythia

Yeah — if you’re into domination, I guess!

          • panem et circenses

I don’t think French cops generally carry guns, but I agree with everything else you’ve said.

          • MsPythia

Well there’s photos coming out today from Nice showing four cops armed with handguns, batons and pepper spray all standing around a woman who was lying on the beach wearing a blue headscarf and a top that covered her arms — which they made her take off.

          • MsPythia
          • panem et circenses

That’s surprising, since I’ve seen videos of French riot cops literally being firebombed with no resistance or weapons in sight. I guess that was less dangerous than confronting women in burkinis, though.

          • MsPythia

Their new heavily armed status in Nice might have to do with the recent attack, but this beach policing shit is insulting and ridiculous.

          • cathyx

They have nothing better to do with their time, good god.

  • A Really good segment of a Mark Blyth speech. I’ll try and look for the full one, but until then enjoy.
    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x2VUFjSWN2w

    • MsPythia

Sounds like a few of my relatives — he’s got an Edinburgh-area accent.

    • panem et circenses

The point is pretty simple, if you remove the proselytizing economists from the equation. The fact is that if these people are getting votes, they’re rising democratically, or as democratically as representative democracy allows. Brexit was direct democracy in action, with a vote directly on the issue rather than by politicians. That was only limited democracy also, since it was just a referendum. They mechanizations of the status quo elites are on the other hand extremely undemocratic in most cases.

The problem with populism is that it can swing both ways and it’s hard to predict which way it’ll go. In the UK there are strong populist sentiments on both the left and right, which led to the rise of both pseudo-socialist Corbyn and UKIP and Britain First. In the US, the left is much weaker and outside of direct action protests they’ve so far had a negligible effect on the system, which puts us in a much more dangerous position, because while the right-wing populists have found somewhat of an outlet in Trump, the left has no real outlet in electoral politics since Sanders’ failed run.

  • 17

    ..

    • Morning 17 :^)

      • 17

Good morning, Steph. Everything where ya left it?

    • cathyx

      Good morning good buddy.

      • 17

        Good morning M’Lady 😉

    • MsPythia

      Good morning 17.

  • panem et circenses

The narrative today from mainstream journos and talking heads is that yes, half the people Clinton met with as Secretary of State were Clinton Foundation donors but there’s no evidence that their donations influenced policy. In essence they completely ignore the fact that many of those donors had issues directly impacting them at the time of their donations or shortly before or after, and on multiple occasions that we currently know of, the State Department just happened to make decisions favoring them. Are people really as stupid as the media believes they are?

    • MsPythia

They do take us for fools. Makes me sick.

  • MsPythia

Good morning everyone. Really horrific and sad photos coming out from the catastrophic 6.2 earthquake in central Italy this morning. Whole cities and towns utterly destroyed. 63 people already reported dead, hundreds missing, and many alive but buried in the rubble. At least 30,000 people homeless — a number that is sure to increase since they’re having a large number of strong aftershocks.
My husband and I were going to go to Italy and Spain this fall, now thinking we’re going to change our travel plans. Might want to go to Ireland and Scotland instead…

    • GM, MP

      • MsPythia

Good Morning to you too Unka. 🙂

    • Nancy

it’s terrible…the aftershocks will go on for several weeks and that is going to be very dangerous as the structures are already weakened.
changing your plans might be the best thing. Smokey left this link last night- https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2016/aug/24/italy-terremoto-earthquake-buildings-collapse-amatrice-rome-people-trapped

my daughter will be back in Rome in a few days…she just missed it all by a couple of days.

      • MsPythia

Glad you’re daughter’s okay Nancy! Good morning to you.

        • Nancy

          thanks, and yes, good morning!
I was reading where it’s good that it happened during the night as the fatalities would have been huge had the kids been in school and the stores opened.
          tragic.

          • MsPythia

That is the good part, but on the other hand they’re saying that because it’s August and there are a lot of vacationers there, the numbers of people who are missing or dead are hard to gauge at the moment.

          • Nancy

there was a festival taking place in one of the towns in the next couple of days. there were tourists there for that.
            just awful.

          • MsPythia

Yes — that was Amatrice. Loaded with people, and they’re now saying that 3 quarters of the town is completely destroyed. It was so beautiful there.

          • Nancy

            🙁

    • MsPythia

Death toll up to 73 now — likely to climb too. 🙁

  • Some of us will know all about this…

    • cathyx

      Where’s the translation option?

      • 1. Try to execute some instructions.
        2. If there’s an error, open up “stackoverflow.com” in the browser.
        3. execute a search of whatever text message is associated with the error

ie: You’re going to search stackoverflow.com because you’ve done something dumb, so you might as well automate it.

        • cathyx

          Where’s the translation option?

    • RTIII

      Now THAT is REALLY funny!

Though I guess you have to know what Stack Overflow is! …I’ve been a member for … um… 7 years, 10 months. … It has stats, says I’m in the top 16%. :-O …This, even though I don’t really frequent the site much….

  • Nancy

there is no difference between many of the democrats and the republicans-

    • MsPythia

Truth — all these politicians are on the same side in the class war. The winning side.

      • Nancy

        right-the 1% is without a party-they are the party.

        • The_Fixer

Our owners know that political parties don’t matter – everyone in them is for sale.

          Good Morning Nancy and MsP.

          • Nancy

            morning Fix!
right-that’s just a pretence they put out there to make people think they have an option and choice.

          • MsPythia

            Good Morning Fixer!

        • MsPythia

It’s the Democrats that tell the biggest lies about that. Their rhetoric is to fool us into believing they still care about average people, but their actions say differently.

    • panem et circenses

Repeating what I’ve heard neocons say, we live in a post-partisan society. In other words, the parties have absolutely no problem working together to increase the wealth of the already insanely rich and fuck everyone else over.

      • Nancy

exactly-they are their very own party and we are seeing that all over this election cycle.

    • panem et circenses

I’d have left out the words “many of”. The rare anomalies within the parties are people who haven’t figured out what their party’s true goals are.

      • Nancy

I have been challenged for my “absolutes” so I am careful now!

        • panem et circenses

Not seeing absolutes anywhere is an absolute in itself. The marriage of political parties and corporations goes down to the marrow in US politics.

          • Nancy

            heh, I just can’t win-regardless of what I post!

          • MsPythia

You don’t have to worry about that here. You’re among friends, and we like you just the way you are! 🙂

          • Nancy

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            nancy 🙂

    • SmotPoker

You know you are ethically, and morally challenged when Martin Shkreli calls your group “a bunch of vultures”…..

      • Nancy

        what an insult! lol.

  • panem et circenses

UK The new heavily armed face of counter terror policing is revealed

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/03/more-armed-police-to-patrol-the-streets-in-response-to-terror-at/

There seems to be a theme developing.

    • MsPythia

Starting to look like our militarized police forces. This must be because the 1% is getting nervous…

      • panem et circenses

Yes, it’s not about terrorism or any perceived outside threat, because those are negligible. The threat to their power is coming from within.

The cloak is falling and the failures of capitalism are being exposed. The economists have been repeatedly wrong in their predictions and suggested measures yet refuse to budge in their faith in the system, it’s like a religion to them. On the other hand, those being pinched are waking up to those inherent failures on a much larger scale.

        • MsPythia

          Couldn’t agree more.

  • Nancy

    LOL

  • The_Fixer

There is a little techy stuff in this article, but you don’t need to understand those parts. It’s about why we haven’t got driverless robocars yet (and I wonder if we ever will as long as there are humans in the world).

    • RTIII

I don’t want driverless cars – or any other vehicles – out there in the world for a LOT of reasons that have nothing to do with technology.

      The top to reasons:

      1) It cements in place a police state and totalitarianism… THINKABOUTIT!

      2) It makes undetectable murder very easy.

      • RTIII

Oh, and a major third reason:

        MASSIVE loss in jobs.

        • The_Fixer

All of that is true. I have serious doubts that the technology will be good enough for perhaps 50 years. What we have now for computing is shit. It’s unreliable in terms of both hardware and software, no way is it anywhere near ready to control a machine that can kill people.

Yes, in the name of law and order, they will be able to shut off your car. Eventually, the freedom to come and go as you choose will be sharply curtailed if not altogether eliminated. Road travel will not be available when the authorities say it won’t. Routes will be predetermined, there will be no “scenic routes.” And there are some places where you’ll be denied access to, like downtown areas of cities for demonstrations and other civic activity.

No, I don’t think it’s a good idea. Yeah, we humans get into crashes. However, nobody ever said that having your freedom is free of cost. While some people should not be allowed to drive, the vast majority of us are reasonably safe to drive. Driving is a gamble I am willing to take, because it does allow one freedom.

I think the article points out just how complex driving is and how much of it is “human.” If we took all of the human driven vehicles and pedestrians off the road, it would be a hell of a lot easier. But that’s not going to happen for a number of reasons (partly economic).

      • Shohanna

My top reason?! I spent 4 yrs in school learning about programing and how computers read that program. The #1 problem?

Computers do NOT process like a human brain and too many programmers forget this and this is why we have words like “BUG” that have nothing to do with insects.

That “glitch”, “Bug”, Computing error (computers do not make mistakes! Sorry don’t blame an inanimate object because you can’t remember computers do NOT THINK!)

And there is no way in hell I would ever trust a computer to drive me in real time. None, Zilch, NADA.

        • Edwin

If it gets mad at you it might take you to the wrong place. 😀

          • Shohanna

I wish that were true. lol It would be very funny!

    • cathyx

I would love a driverless car. No need for a designated driver.

  • SmotPoker

Well this should please Shohanna. At last someone is taking some fire for the epi pens.

They speak of Martin Shkreli of the Douche Bro fame; Even Shkreli, widely perceived as a paragon of greed after hiking a drug price by 5,000 percent, decried Mylan as a group of “vultures.”

    http://www.rawstory.com/2016/08/this-pharma-ceo-is-in-the-hot-seat-over-epipen-price-hikes-and-her-dad-is-sen-joe-manchin/

    • MsPythia

I can’t read that. I refuse to give Roxanne’s website any hits now.

      • SmotPoker

I check it out every now and again, can’t and won’t comment on it.

        • MsPythia

I still read Alternet occasionally — at least it’s not owned by Rox, even though she works there and bans people there like she does in her own blog.

          • Edwin

Oddly, I got banned at RS within 10 minutes of my fist visit, but can still post at Alternet.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Depends if the mods at RS happen to catch you posting there or not.

          • Edwin

I have posted the odd comment at Alternet for years. In light of recent activities I have a sneaking feeling Roxanne (and likely a few others) might be aware of me.

Everyone at TPV knew I was a scoundrel and that (our) Nancy was my girlfriend. In fact, that’s how I found out.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

        • Shohanna

Here is a better article. Not exactly the same.. But close enough.

          http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/24/politics/epipens-congress-response/

      • Edwin

II sense the dislike for Roxanne is strong in you.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

She probably hates Roxy about 10% as much as you hate Karoli.

          • Edwin

            I don’t hate Karoli. I just think she’s a douchebag.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            😛 sure sure.

  • SpiffyTheValiant

I have returned to my loyal subjects. I was playing yahtzee with my dad. Won 2 out of 3 games.

    • cathyx

THAT’S what your dad needed you for?

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        🙂 yup

(Sometimes he needs to just have socialization that doesn’t involve people bitching.)

        • RTIII

          I thrive on that! 🙂

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lol yup

    • MsPythia

Good Morning Spiffy the Valiant Queen!

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        hey 😀

        • MsPythia

          Nice Crown. 🙂

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            ty 🙂

    • Won 2 out of 3 games.

  • SmotPoker

Now I know we’ve all wondered just what kind of nutty doctor would write the infamous Trump Dr’s note. Ponder no more, it’s this guy, and just one look tells me I wouldn’t let him examine my favorite childhood stuffed animal let alone a live person:

    • The_Fixer

      Whoa, Scary!

    • MsPythia

      Is his name Dr. Robert?

      • SmotPoker

Please. Dr. Robert was his fathers name. He goes by Dr. Bob….

    • RTIII

      Happily, I can’t relate: 63F right now, 11:25 AM. 🙂

    • Edwin

This might be the last day of our heatwave (after about 5 weeks non-stop). I’ll wait til I feel it, but the temp is supposed to drop about 10*C by tomorrow (that’s a drop of about 19*F).

Wikileaks E-Mails Show Hillary Looked Into Parkinson’s Drug After Suffering From “Decision Fatigue”

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-08-24/wikileaks-e-mails-show-hillary-looked-parkinsons-drug-after-suffering-decision-fatig

    • MsPythia

Saw that — and combined with the others where Huma tells her to nap, or tells other people she’s down for a nap…
There’s another one where she and a friend talk about her “cracked head.” There’s probably something wrong with her, not that anyone will ever admit it.

  • RTIII

Show of hands: Who all wants to hear about my opossum problem?!

    [sees every hand raised!]

    OK, then, I won’t be boring you…

…I’d been trying to starve it out, leaving the doors open so it could leave on its own, but depriving it of food and water.

When that didn’t work, I got a trap and captured the critter in the trap in one evening.

It was a baby – about the size of a big kitten!

I took it to the SPCA and they rejected it saying they don’t deal with “wild animals.” But, they gave me a list of places that did / could, starting with the city’s animal control department who would kill it. Then, she gave me the name of a place that was maybe an hours drive, one way, presuming light traffic. … Then she gave me the name of a nature preserve that was the opposite direction about as far, but would likely have better traffic, maybe a tiny bit closer, but less freeway.

Depressed about it, I figured I’d take it to a friends new property that was only about 20 to 30 minutes (each way) where I knew there was a stream with water and berries. Figured it’d be perfect. So, I ran some errands headed that general direction, then got a call from my friend who dissuaded me from doing that. He wanted me to go into the Oakland hills and release it anywhere. . . I got the idea he didn’t care if it lived or died as a result of where I left it.

Unhappily, I went about my other business, but then got a flash: I was far enough away from my own home that it was EXTREMELY unlikely it would ever find its way to come back to my place – presuming it wanted to, so, I asked the vendor whose place I was at about any local creek with grass, plants and such nearby. He pointed me at one and I went looking, found the wrong place, had to go looking again, finally found a place and it LOOKED great, BUT, it looked pretty manicured and I realized they’d put a hiking trail there. IDK enough about opossum diet, but I think they eat insects, worms, and meat if they can get it. And this place looked like it would have at least a lot of insects, worms and the like. As for water, looked like they paved over the actual creek for a fucking hiking trail – probably put the stream in a pipe under the trail. But then, it also looked like the properties surrounding the trail were irrugated with lawn sprinklers and the like. So, maybe there would be water…

Kinda short on time I decided that was the place, for good or ill. … Poor thing wouldn’t leave the cage! It was scared shitless! Awe! I felt really bad shaking it out of the cage – gently, though. It looked up at me like, “REALLY, you’re gonna leave me HERE!? X-( ”

At that point we were both committed – I wasn’t going to pick it up with my bare hands, had no gloves, and I doubt it would have crawled back into the trap / cage… I was gratified as I moved off that it started to sniff around and head under the ivy that was covering the ground; maybe he would be OK.

…Last night, as I was going to bed, as before, I started to put Shredder’s cat food away for the night because of the critters – starving it out, doncha know?! THEN remembered, oh yeah, got rid of the opossum, don’t have to do that any more!

Of course, you know it, I had Shredder in the bedroom with me all night but when we emerged I checked his bowl and it was empty.

I think there is at least one more opossum in my space!

    • MsPythia

Maybe you can trap his friend, and bring it to the same place! 😀

      • RTIII

Yep, I can do that! Gonna have to, I guess!

Would likely be brother or sister, I’d imagine – or maybe PARENT! But a full-grown opossum is too big for my trap, and would eat enough and be too obvious in the space – I’d see it all the time!

        • MsPythia

I would think so too… Good luck! I want the opossum to have a friend in the new location!

    • FaunaAndFlora

I know that you mean well, but relocating wild animals often does more harm than good.

      http://audubonportland.org/wcc/urban/relocation

      • RTIII

I’m sure YOU mean well, but you really don’t get the situation.

I wasn’t “relocating” this animal but was saving its life – trying to anyway. And I know far more about “relocating” than your condescension warrants.

        • FaunaAndFlora

My point was that you probably weren’t saving its life. All you may have done is cause the animal some stress and discomfort before it dies. Other animals already had established territories in the area where you released the oppossum. Those animals aren’t just going to lay down and let that critter help itself to food and shelter in their territory. They will challenge your oppossum. Also, oppossums are noctural. If you must relocate one because it makes you feel good then the best time to release it is at dusk.

          • RTIII

“because it makes you feel good”

            You really don’t get it.

          • FaunaAndFlora

            Yes, I do.

    • RTIII

OK, it’s confirmed: Shredder and I both heard it in the kitchen and Shredder has gone off to stalk it!

    • smkngman3

      You’ve been adopted

      • RTIII

I sure have! Just like when Shredder was a feral kitten and adopted me, so too this … THESE! … opossum think they can do the same! …

And I MIGHT have gone along with the program if they weren’t so damned smelly! I can’t abide by them in my space, sorry!

        • smkngman3

          Give em a bath DAD!

          • RTIII

I don’t think that would work; they exude some sort of musk that I just can’t stand. . . Sorry, not gonna work out. 🙁

          • Edwin

            check the internet for recipes

  • SpiffyTheValiant

    hmm it’s very quiet here.

    • We’re hunting wabbits!

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        oh no

        • Nancy

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3

      • RTIII

        I’m hunting opossum! 😉

    • RTIII

Browser crash, and meanwhile, deleting thousands of inbound spam – reconsidering my spam-fighting options! … I think I’m gonna have to change my mail system to do a better job at it…

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        eep

  • Nancy

    hahahaha…

  • MsPythia

Wow — RT is STILL offline today…

    • Working for me. <boris_voice>Quick like bunny</boris_voice>

      • MsPythia

Not for me — server not found…

        • You need a better VPN. 😉 😛

          • MsPythia

            I don’t want a VPN. ;p

          • Well, then, just accept that we know, being an American citizen, that your government censors what you can see, at their convenience. 😛

          • MsPythia

Strange — yesterday people here were saying it was offline, yet I could see it. Today it’s offline for me, and you can see it!

          • It’s because Brent Scowcroft and his fellow scumbags are launching a denial of service attack against RT’s servers. So whether, from the US, you can get to the site depends on which US-facing servers/CDNs are being hit worst.

But the scum DDOSing RT’s servers aren’t wasting their time with Canadians or Canadian facing servers/CDNs.

I see it, all the time, because my VPN exit node is in Canada, routing around US government censorship.

          • Shohanna

I can see it today. Directly from the link above from Fixer. **smdh** I wish they would make up their damned minds.

          • kreskin

It’s your uncle Sam , effin with the Russians … as usual . He doesn’t like what he can’t control … and he can’t control RT News.

How bad is it ? Dig this . My wife calls home to Russia everyday to check on her mother , to avoid being charged $7 a minute we use prepaid phone cards , it’s been the same routine for the last decade. Now we’re having trouble getting through , we can hear her mom but she can’t hear us … etc. etc. . We’ve tried different phone cards … to no avail . It’s obvious what is going on .

Pisses me off royal . The boys and girls in Washington and at the Pentagon are like snot nosed teenagers … just being assholes. The Russians are not the problem , we are .

          • Shohanna

Well those snot nosed teens also want to start a fucking war for profit. :/ This is the way they start one.

          • kreskin

Could easily get out of hand . The lunatics are running the asylum !

          • It’s likely because those phonecard providers route through “Voice Over IP” aka, routing it over the internet.

Or it could just be Russian disastrous telephone infrastructure, or some combination of both.

          • kreskin

Like I said it’s been the same routine for the last 10 years very rarely a problem until now . Doesn’t matter what card we use , even if we call direct it’s the same . Too coincidental . On the other hand she can get through to us .

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Sho 🙂

      • MsPythia

        😀 Website RT, RT!

    • kreskin

Was just there , it’s up now . Had a lot of trouble yesterday . I used BING instead of Goggle and it worked . Coincidental ? I dunno. .

      • MsPythia

Ah — interesting. I’ll try it. Google is in the tank for Clinton, and it looks like today there’s a story up with the headline: ‘FBI docs linked to Hillary Clinton role in Vince Foster’s suicide missing – report’ and I can’t access it.

      • The_Fixer

You guys are going through a search engine to get there?

I go to my address bar and type in:

        https://www.rt.com

and then I bookmark it. There really is no reason to go through a search engine to get there unless you are looking for a specific article and you don’t remember where it is.

        • MsPythia

Guess what Fixer? I did as kreskin suggested, used Bing, was able to get to RT.com, went to look up the Clinton headline about the FBI files for Vince Foster being missing, clicked and it came up “server missing.”

          • The_Fixer

OK, sounds like a DNS server (or servers) are messed up in some way. Here is a direct link to that story which does not rely on a DNS server:

            https://207.244.80.166/usa/356902-fbi-clinton-foster-reports-missing/

I may come back and edit this if it don’t work:)

          • MsPythia

It comes up with an “insecure connection” notice.

          • The_Fixer

Tell it that you want to go there anyway.

          • MsPythia

Nah — they’ll probably do something nasty to my computer if I go after that warning…

I looked at this one instead:

Hillary in Hot Water! FBI Files Connecting Clinton To Adviser’s Suicide Disappear!
The only missing files were the ones linked to the presidential candidate.

            http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2016/08/hillary-clinton-scandal-vince-foster-suicide-fbi-files-disappear/

          • The_Fixer

No, that’s not what that error message means. What I did is give you the IP address of http://www.rt.com and include the path to the story in that link. The browser is being fooled because you gave it the IP address instead of the name of the site. The browser is being hyper-cautious. If you had typed in the name and you got that message, you’d be right to be worried. But you typed in a number, which to the dumb computer is different. Actually, they are the same, just identified differently.

In the end, I have tried it both ways and have found that rt must be having some site issues, I was able to get to it sometimes and not others. They may be under a DDOS attack, or they may simply have a technical problem at the site.

Maybe someone should e-mail them about it and ask? I gotta get shoving off here, or I’d do it.

            Have a good day, all!

          • It’s been well publicized already, that RT and other Russian English-language news outlets are under attack. See the featured comment.

          • MsPythia

I would try it, but my computer is telling me it won’t link directly because something is “malicious” about that link.

          • smkngman3

Yesterday I posted the link to the Daily Mail with the same story.

            Glad it’s getting out.

          • smkngman3

I’ve had continuing problems connecting to RT.com yet just used the link in your comment and it connected.

          • MsPythia

            Not for me.

          • smkngman3

            Rotating blackout?

          • MsPythia

I don’t know. But my computer does not want me to open that link.

          • RTIII

            Yep, against We The People.

Ya know, LONG time ago, I had a job offer to work for Google as a computer scientist researcher and turned them down because I had this gut feeling they were going to turn into an evil organization… Could maybe have been better to be on the inside, but I’d rather have nothing to do with it.

Turns out I was correct. 🙁

          • It’s not the search engine, or your browser. see the featured comment, above.

          • kreskin

I know . People were telling me that they were getting through when I wasn’t , I was just making sure that the problem wasn’t at my end . I didn’t think it was.

        • kreskin

That’s what I usually do but it wasn’t working.

      • Why not just type in “rt.com” ?!? Why are you going through Bing or Google?

        • RTIII

I am often amazed when I’m directly giving someone a URL, they enter in that URL as a web search! I’m like WTF, face-palm! What are you doing?! … They say they don’t know any better! Most common response: what’s an address bar?

          • It’s definitely frustrating, to me as a technophile, that people don’t learn the basics of the most important piece of tech they user (the browser, whether on their desktop, their phone, hidden in an app, etc.)

        • MsPythia

          Server missing.

        • kreskin

I was trying everything . Browser has a default search engine , right ?

          • Not when you type a URL in the address bar. Maybe you’ve let something install a plugin that routes everything you type through someone’s marketing server, via a search engine, those are common pieces of spyware people install, but I can’t say without looking at your browser install.

          • MsPythia

I thought it might be because of my adblocker, so I disabled it for RT, but still nothing when it comes to that article.

          • It’s never your adblocker. trust me.

          • MsPythia

            Well, I figured it couldn’t hurt…

          • kreskin

The site has been under attack . Ive used the same set up for ages , never a problem before.

          • MsPythia

            Same here.

          • As folks have explained. It’s because forces of the US intelligence regime are launching an attack against the server RT uses to distribute it’s web site to Americans. That’s why it’s happening. The result is the site will be, randomly, unavailable to people browsing from the United States.

          • kreskin

I even tried different browsers , making siure that the problem wasn’t at my end. . All I know is that I went to BING.com typed in RT News and got through to the site . Coincidence ? Like I said , I dunno .

    • Edwin

Works like a charm for me. 😀

It’s the N Korean news that gets blocked by the internet police here. Gotta love our modern democracies.

      • RTIII

Why block the NK news? I think it’d be great fun!

        • Edwin

NK is a great bogeyman to scare the bejezuz out of SK. They also have the National Security Law so they can accuse people of being sympathetic to NK and arrest them. Shit like that. If you read NK you’d obviously be a commie… right?

People here know that’s what goes on. People don’t live in fear of N Korea. When you get all those hyped reports about NK on CNN it’s a big snore-fest here.

I often get emails from home, “Is everything OK.” I don’t know what they mean. Then I find out there was something in the Western news.

Anyhow I have ways to link to NK news, but don’t bother.

        • Edwin

PS with a tech-savvy nation, I’m sure everyone knows how to get NK news. That’s why this stuff is such BS.

        • Edwin

I’m not even “tech-savvy” and I can do it.

  • Attention: Russian English Language News Outlets are under attack from a faction or factions of the US Intelligence regime. They are launching a “DDOS” attack against the servers RT uses to distribute it’s web site to Americans. That’s why it’s happening. The result is the site will be, randomly, unavailable to people browsing from the United States. It will keep happening and nothing you can do will make it stop.

You can resolve this by subscribing to a Virtual Private Network service, and setting your exit server to one not in the United States.

    • RTIII

I recall two or three years ago or so dialogues in the tech community about having a new feature in routers that prevents DDOS attacks.

IIRC, the idea was that the route packets take would be tagged on to initiating requests and whenever any router along the way perceived a DDOS attack was possibly under way because a configurable threshold had been reached, it would both contact “upstream” routers to confirm the paths being taken and confirming source IPs – NOT JUST the IPs from the senders, but the IPs of other routers along the way and basically starting to just drop packets – but not all packets. First, identical packets that match a pattern that has already been passed through will then be dropped silently. By engaging other routers in the process, it would help thwart work-arounds such as constantly shifting source IP addresses or outright lying in packet headers about earlier routes taken because the ROUTERS would be a part of the tracked data and a criterion for deciding when to drop packets. This would permit all legitimate traffic through and prevent the DDOS from happening.

I may not have remembered the architectural proposal exactly right, but it was something along these lines.

IDK what happened to this proposal, but it sure makes a lot of sense to me! It would also be easy to understand why TPTB don’t want it to happen!

      • I remember that, vaguely. I got the impression a lot of people thought it was too much trouble, or something along those lines, for something that was so “difficult” to pull off, what with needing a bunch of zombies. Of course: virtualization. And, *POOF* it’s not so hard at all.

        • RTIII

We need a system like this in place NOW!

Alternatively, what we need are a bunch of sites willing to host copies of RT’s data, and our own DNS system…

An improved user interface to system’s “host file” would let us control the IP addressing narrative if we want / need to… MUCH harder to thwart that.

Heck, now that I think of it. The DNS chain for authoritative answers can be altered pretty easily – that’s probably where the DOS attacks are focused – pointing people away to non-existant addresses or systems that don’t have a web server, etc. But it can be flipped around and used to circumvent the official narrative. …If you had an “underground DNS system” you could side-step these bastards.

But I imagine there would not be enough buy-in unless the attacks got wide-spread enough to anger a lot of people, and it’s entirely unclear that’ll happen.

Of course ANY scheme can be thwarted, theirs or ours, the difference is that if the government can be shown to be a part of censorship, it will fuel revolution like nothing we’ve ever seen in modern times.

          • What we’re looking likely to get is a decentralized web.

The current Web is not private or censorship-free. It lacks a memory, a way to preserve our culture’s digital record through time. The Decentralized Web aims to make the Web open, secure and free of censorship by distributing data, processing, and hosting across millions of computers around the world, with no centralized control.

“New revelations show a nation for sale under Hillary Clinton”

The Democratic Party often warns us that mixing big money and politics will corrupt democracy. They must have nominated Hillary Clinton to prove it.

The Clinton Foundation was ostensibly set up to solve the world’s most pressing problems. Though it’s done some fine work, its most fruitful program has been leveraging Clinton’s position in the State Department to enrich her family, friends and cronies.

It’s against federal law for charities to act in the interests of private business or individuals. Yet the Clinton Foundation secured high-paying gigs for its namesakes and helped for-profit corporations with family ties set up lucrative deals.

“The Clinton Foundation was ostensibly set up to solve the world’s most pressing problems.”

Yeah, to solve the problem of legalizing bribery while not being too obvious about it.

It has a 90%+ overhead rate! It’s one of the least-efficient “charitable organizations” in the Western world! Besides that, it’s not even a charitable organization! It’s a 501(c)3. That means donations to it are NOT tax deductible. It is ostensibly non-profit, but that doesn’t make it a charity. It has the same legal status as The Porsche Club, and is just about identically as philanthropic!

“Horrified by Trump, Democrats getting nostalgic about Romney”

    https://apnews.com/2aa0ca9fa0fc4ef580e08b0904fb50a9/Horrified-by-Trump,-Democrats-getting-nostalgic-about-Romney

“It’s a sharp reversal from four years ago. Back then, Democrats spent hundreds of millions of dollars portraying the former Massachusetts governor as a callous, unpatriotic, pet-abusing caricature of the uber-rich.”

    This description fots Hillary perfectly!

    • towerofbabel

Yeah. Remember when the GOP ran outstanding candidates like Romney?

  • MsPythia

Totally agree with Debbie and her calling out of Bernie’s betrayal towards his supporters, and the insulting shit they’re now pulling with “Our Revolution.” What is happening right now is actually a perfect example of what Jill Stein is talking about when she says we “can’t have a revolution within a counter-revolutionary party.’

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmV7sS1Pw58

    • kreskin

” Our Revolution” , it’s laughable at this point . Bernie Sanders has lost all credibility .

      • MsPythia

Yeah, especially now. 13 leaders are protesting the direction of this pathetic organization.

    • I <3 Debbie.

      • MsPythia

Me too — you know in this video she says we need leaders — what she doesn’t seem to realize is that she is a leader. 😀

      • Edwin

        I finally clued in <3 = ♥

I thought it was part of a cat face or something. (Lotta cat memes around)

        • cathyx

      • RTIII

        I need her email address!

    • s k

      Who the fuck is Bernie?

      • MsPythia

He’s a wash up now — and he’s done that to himself.

        • s k

          He sure is.

Bernie Sanders’ Next Revolution: a New National Group to Promote Progressives: http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/bernie_revolution_new_national_group_launch_promote_progressive_20160824

Sanders also will start campaigning for Hillary Clinton after Labor Day, The Washington Post reported. “I look forward to it. I feel very strongly that Donald Trump would be a disaster for the country. I want to do everything I can to see that Secretary Clinton wins.”

          • MsPythia

Completely negating everything he said during the primary. It’s stupid and insulting. But it’s a good thing that most of his supporters aren’t buying it, including the people that were selected as leaders for this “Our Revolution” organization. Most of us are smart enough to see that Clinton is the greater danger, not Trump, and that is proved by the fact that all the people who created all the problems we wanted to fight by electing Bernie are supporting Clinton and her invalid candidacy for president.

          • s k

Hillary will do far more damage to the progressive movement than Trump. Obama used band aids and duct tape to put the markets back together after the crash of 08. We have countries issuing negative interests bonds, these capitalist are clueless on what to do nest. If the next crash comes under Clinton the Dems are finished for years.

          • MsPythia

We asked for Hope and Change from Obama, not to use his power to keep Wall Street together after they robbed the people of this nation (and the world) blind. We all know that Clinton will do the same, and worse. For this reason, I think the Dems future is already finished, because too many younger people (and plenty of us oldsters too) aren’t buying their bullshit any longer.

          • s k

The young people are pissed as they watched Obama profit from their student debt and triple under his watch.

          • MsPythia

The Democrat politicians of the 1% turned a blind eye to Occupy, turned a blind eye to Black Lives Matter, and turned a blind eye to Sander’s Revolution, and stole the fucking primary for Clinton. If they think they can keep doing that and keep their grasp on power they’re stupid.

          • Edwin

            but… Trump

          • Nancy

            and Putin

          • Edwin

I was saving the Putin scare for one of their other memes. (They only have the two.)

          • Nancy

            oops!

          • MsPythia

He’s less of a danger because they hate him right and left.

          • towerofbabel

And guess who the sitting ducks are?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

:/ Unfortunately, he pretty much let everyone know what was going to happen if he lost. So it’s not unexpected.

          • MsPythia

Yeah, but that was stupid. He could have continued to be a leader of the people, but instead, he joined what he told us was the enemy. All the power that he held during the primary he let drain through his fingers.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            I know ;/

          • towerofbabel

What is unexpected is that he seems to tolerate any kind of criminality devised by the DNC crowd.

          • Edwin

            “Revolution” 2016 = “Hope and Change” 2008

In 2020 it’s going to be “A rubber raft in every garage. And door prizes.”

          • towerofbabel

The Green Party is better for it although that is probably Sander’s only regret.

          • Edwin

            ugh

          • Blue Basilisk

I wonder if this is how Padme felt as she watched the birth of the Galactic Empire?

      • Just another right-winger that likes to blow hot air, about being progressive, up peoples’ asses. 3:)

        • MsPythia

I don’t think he’s rightwinger, I just think he’s too old and too afraid to actually fight the revolution he claimed he wanted to lead — and that includes being too afraid to lose his grip on the power he’s obtained within our rotten and corrupt system.

          • cathyx

And i won’t rule out that he may have been threatened.

          • MsPythia

Well, as I’ve said before, it seems kind of ridiculous for him to have called for revolution if he wasn’t actually willing to put it all on the line.

          • cathyx

Clintons have suspicious ties to those dead people, so a threat isn’t out of the realm of possibilities.

          • MsPythia

When have revolutionaries ever feared death though, you know? It’s an insult to those who have risked all and many who have died for their cause. He just shouldn’t have used that word if he wasn’t willing to fight with everything he had.

          • towerofbabel

But his best move, had he been threatened, would to go public with it.

          • Edwin

as the blood drained out of his beloved grandchildren

          • cathyx

          • Edwin

Not if they threaten to harm family members if he did.

          • towerofbabel

The only reason Assange is still alive is his public profile, IMHO.

          • MsPythia

            I agree.

          • Well, you know my position: If one votes for, or campaigns for, or endorses a conservative/right-winger/warmonger, that make them a de-facto conservative/right-winger/warmonger.

          • MsPythia

A fair point. He’s crossed that divide.

          • Perhaps not surprisingly, given the Conservative Dems who use it, it was originally used, in politics at any rate, in 1984, by a Reagan Administration Appointee,

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            It’s been around that long?

          • That’s the earliest reference to it I can find. It may be, culturally, earlier.

Yikes!! So this condition has persisted in America for quite some time.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

That’s kinda depressing. I thought that it was something hillbots came up with recently.

          • Nancy

            nah…she has some serious competition.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            :O I do?

Ok. I guess I spoke too soon. Tornado here now. I don’t fuckin’ need this. Mrs 17 is on her way home and plans to hide in the cellar. I plan to ride this bitch out. Whatever doesn’t take my puters doesn’t kill me.

    • Nancy

      wow…take care 17!

    • s k

      Stay safe.

    • cathyx

Take your wine down with you. You’ll thank me later.

      • 17

Kids are on their way over to help take up space in our cellar. WTF?

        • cathyx

So you ride it out together. Is your cellar safer than theirs?

          • 17

They have no cellar. I’m gonna charge the admission fee.

          • cathyx

Don’t let them see the wine.

          • 17

I don’t mind if they see the wine. It’s the porn stash I gotta hide!

          • MsPythia

            LOL!

Oh, 17. Be sure you are safe!

      • 17

Look in these eyes sometime…you’ll understand why I welcome death. It’s the loved ones around me I fear for.

        • notisaidthepig

You can’t love or help others if you don’t take care of yourself first. Just my two cents. Oink!

          • MsPythia

            Truth!

    • MsPythia

Get in the basement with her!

      • 17

Oh, c’mon. That’ll only lead to unwanted sex. 😉

        • MsPythia

Nope — you said your kids are coming over!

          • Edwin

            So.

    • Unplug that shit and get it cellar-ated!

    • Stay safe 17,

‘Blatant violation of sovereignty’: Damascus condemns Turkish operation in Jarablus”

“What is happening in Jarablus now isn’t fighting terrorism as Turkey claims – rather it is replacing one type of terrorism with another,” a Syrian government official told SANA and once again called on the UN to “put an end to this aggression” and to make Turkey and the US-led coalition fulfill the UN resolutions related to closing the borders and preventing the terrorists from receiving funding and support from abroad.

Turkey Invades Syria, Backed By U.S.”

For those who may be wondering exactly what the Turkish goal might be, two points must be mentioned in regards to Turkey’s actions which should go some length to demonstrate that the Turks are still focused on destroying the Syrian government as well as preventing the establishment of a Kurdish enclave either in Syria or Turkey.

Her name is seriously Teachout? I thought that was just a group of teachers or something.

      • Nancy

look at her first name-that’s even more unusual!

Been trying to call my son since he’s in the tornado watch area and I can’t get ahold of him but I’m sure he’s fine, since there haven’t been any tornadoes in their County.

Bill paying is done for today so yay on that too! How’s your day going Nancy?

mine is lovely-many walks with the dog, coffee with my neighbours and a calm sunny day.

          • Nice perfect day:^)

          • Nancy

yes. I was a bit grumpy and pissy earlier-but that passed!

      No “Greetings”?

Nothing. He is being completely ignored. Makes me think they never cared about us either. They just wanted to keep victims around for Ricki to abuse at her leisure.

“What does Hillary have to do for it to be ‘corruption’?”

That said, I’ve been really flabbergasted these past few days over the verbal gyrations that folks in the mainstream media have been performing to label the odd doings at the Clinton Foundation — and its disturbing overlaps with Hillary Clinton’s duties as Secretary of State — as anything but corruption. I guess it depends on what your definition of the word “corruption” is. These days, I’m starting to wonder if that word has any meaning left.

French Police Force Woman To Undress On Beach Following ‘Burkini Ban’

Authorities in 15 towns have banned burkinis, citing public concern following recent terrorist attacks in the country
    http://www.mintpressnews.com/french-police-force-woman-to-undress-on-beach-following-burkini-ban/219752/

    https://twitter.com/AbdulAzim/status/768198510441357312/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

    • Again, while I think the ban is silly and racist. Why The Fuck would you wear that to lay out at the beach?!? You’re not getting any of the benefits of being in the sun. I simply can’t believe these burka-wearing religious extremist women don’t have severe vitamin D deficiencies. (And, yes, that’s what they are, only extremist sects of Islam demand this misogyny. This is not in the Koran or part of the religion as a whole. These people are the Muslim equivalent of Michelle Bachman or Fred Phelps)

      • SpiffyTheValiant

It’s disturbing. It’s like borderline rape. Strip now! *points gun*

      • cathyx

Because they want to. That’s the only explanation anyone deserves.

      • MsPythia

They want to enjoy the beach. I don’t want men who wear speedos and gold medallions or women who wear thong-butt-floss swimsuits on the beach to be arrested either, no matter what I think of their stupid look.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

I’m not sure what the “logic” of this ban is other than to make it clear they are second class citizen.

Government: It’s horrible how your culture tells women how much skin to show. NOW STRIP OR ELSE!

Why would anyone get upset that they chose to cover up more? What do they think they are hiding bombs underneath their burkas?

          • cathyx

I can hide a bomb in my beach bag covered with my beach towel.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            indeed.

          • Edwin

That comment probably got routed into the NSA “special investigations” file.

          • MsPythia

It’s religious discrimination is all it is. Their burkini’s wouldn’t hide much.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Also it has an element of rapeyness to it. I’m just saying the government is ordering women to show more skin than they are comfortable with. They would NEVER pull this with a man. Imagine if a man showed up with a tshirt. I doubt they’d have a gun pointed at him demanding he be shirtless like most of the other men.

          • MsPythia

            Yes. It’s creepy as hell!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

And people were supposedly cheering for this? I don’t think they’d cheer if it was them at the beach, getting held up at gun point by the Crusaders.

          • MsPythia

The French equivalent of Trump supporters. Bigots and Racists.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I am so disappointed. I have always had a rather romanticized, idealistic picture of France in my head.

          • Edwin

Ha ha. If you visit some of the tourist hot-spots in Thailand you get an eyeful of Euro-trash. Believe me, they have as many Euro-morons on their side of the pond as we do on ours (N American side.)

      • cathyx

If I want to wear a clown suit with big shoes and a floppy hat to the beach, that’s my business. I shouldn’t have guns pointed at me ordering me to show some skin.

        • MsPythia

Exactly. We should all be able to wear what we want.

          • They’re not wearing “what they want” though, they’re wearing what a male has threatened them, in order to force them to wear. Don’t be kidded by the (male created and disseminated) extremist-religious propaganda.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Have you asked them if it’s what they want to wear?

Sure, sometimes it might be forced. But I doubt every muslim woman was forced into it.

          • I don’t doubt they were forced into it. At least the vast majority. I’m sure there are some sickos who have internalized the misogyny that’s the core of this burka nonsense, just as it is with the Christian equivalents.

And I’m betting you wouldn’t hesitate to criticize women being forced by men into wearing this:

            https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/enhanced/webdr01/2013/3/6/21/enhanced-buzz-13539-1362623304-3.jpg

            And you’d be right to.

          • Nancy

I actually don’t Unka-not my thing but I am not them or part of their belief.
I oppose child abuse that can go on in these cults but they can wear what they want.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

If it’s against their will, that’s one thing. If they choose to dress like that, it’s another.

It should also tell you something that the WOMEN commenting on this, seem to have a different opinion on this. Are we all internalizing misgymony because we don’t assume we know whether another woman wants to dress in a certain way?

Perhaps there are women who just simply prefer to cover up. Are oppressive pricks out there that force women to cover up? Yes. But the people holding them at gunpoint and ordering them to strip, are NOT ANY BETTER.

          • Nancy

my daughter did a final paper on the niqab, hijab and burka.
many women are cool with it. I was shocked as I thought it was just another misogynistic and dominance thing. not in every case.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Some might just assume it’s tradition and not think anything of it. Maybe other women prefer not to have men leering at them. It’s a preference thing, i would think.

          • Nancy

there are enough women that take in on because they want it and like being covered.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

-_- Apparently not showing enough skin at the beach is very dangerous, but guns are okay.

          • Nancy

seriously-I cannot be in the sun anymore due to medication…I have to be covered and under an umbrella-I don’t have to go to the beach but if my daughter was younger-I would take her and be covered. this woman was there with her kids.

          • cathyx

            Don’t do that in France.

          • Nancy

            apparently not!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Well as long as your clothing doesn’t look Muslim, I’m sure they would make an exception.

          • Edwin

So if you wore a full length Moo-moo (sp?) to keep the sun off you might be ordered to strip at gunpoint (??)

          • Nancy

depends if I have “offensive” head gear on as well.
did you see where the RCMP are allowing a headscarf with the uniform to attract more muslim women into the force?
I doubt that shit of policing women at the beach will happen here-however perhaps if we were attacked by muslim terrorists, it might be different.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Oh I’m sure there are some Trumpites, who would love it to happen here. Thing is, we have a pretty small Muslim population to begin with…

          • Edwin

Harper had that hotline to phone in to report un-Canadian activities. Good riddance to that fuckwad.

          • Nancy

            lol, no kidding!

          • Edwin
          • “cool” with it. AKA “Internalized the misogyny of men’s excuses for telling them what to wear.” The hijab or Burka is a misogynist extremist-religious practice designed to treat women like property, nothing more and definitely nothing less.

          • Nancy

            not always.
have you spoken to any women that wear them?

          • Yes, I have, dozens, actually, both young and older, when I worked at a community center in a largely Muslim neighborhood. And they were some of the most cowed human beings I’ve ever met. Always looking at their husbands before speaking, nervous about speaking to anyone who was not a woman. I was sad and aghast, at the same time.

So don’t tell me this is a free choice, for the vast majority of these women. They are slaves. And while France’s silly laws isn’t going to change that, if you’re not first and foremost working to change the situation that has caused France’s idiotic and ineffectual laws, then I’m sorry, but I don’t think your argument has a leg to stand on.

          • cathyx

There are millions of muslim women. That small sample you worked with is not a fair representation of the population.

          • Neither are the few someone interview in college. But I’m betting my sample is much closer than the small sample of Muslim women with husbands and fathers “liberal” enough to send them to a college, where they’d be interviewed.

I just can’t belive you women are defending the horrific and abusive misogyny of these extremist (and minority) Muslim sects, merely because French fascists passed an equally horrific and abusive law against them.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Well I’m starting to sound like a broken record here.

I’d rather have a woman wearing a burka because she WANTS to, than have a woman wearing a bikini because some “crusader” decided she didn’t have the right to dress herself in whatever way she desired.

And with that I’ve said my peace.

          • The majority of Muslim women are not part of the extremist Islamic sects where they are forced by men who are given ownership of them, to engage in self-denigrating behavior.

So, I’m not assuming anything, I’m looking at the example of the vast majority of Muslim, and non-Muslim women and seeing the truth of the matter: That the Hijab and Burqa are as much a violation of these women as France’s offensive, fascist law.

          • cathyx

We’re not defending abusive misogyny. We’re defending leaving these women alone to not have to expose their skin against their wishes. I honestly can’t see how you can’t get that. Fight the misogyny battle in a more appropriate place. This is completely inappropriate.

          • Right, and when I pointed out that making them wear these garments is as abusive as the law itself, that’s when I got jumped on, with all kinds of accusations that did not match what I have been saying.

          • cathyx

Maybe if you’ve been catcalled, and whistled at, and had the once over done over and over your body by a leering man, you might understand that this is offensive to any woman.

          • Nancy

nowhere did I say it was a free choice, for the vast majority of women. I said many women were cool with it. I have an opinion. I am voicing it and I don’t have to work towards anything in order to express it. if it’s not as informed or as educated as you think it should be, it is mine based on my knowledge and understanding.

          • I think “many” is an exaggeration. “Many” doesn’t even describe the amount of Muslim women subjected to this abusive and misogynistic practice,

          • Nancy

            ok then.

          • And the below was before 9/11 and the radicalization of Muslims and Christians alike.

          • MsPythia

Do you think that cops with guns are “saving” them from internalized misogyny? It’s absurd.

          • No, and I’ve said that, again and again in this thread. Please stop acting like I’m defending this law, when all I’m doing is criticizing the depraved cultural institutions that prompted such a depreaved law.

          • MsPythia

Look Unka, I’m not attacking you, but I would like you to understand that is just not going to change their cultural institutions of misogyny by having cops threaten these women by pointing guns at them and demanding they strip. These women have to change those institutions, and western men should act like their allies towards that end, not another group of bigots and oppressors.

          • You are attacking me, when you’re ouright saying I’m defending a law, which I specifically criticized, repeatedly, and one that you equate to rape.

If that’s that’s not an attack, what is?

          • MsPythia

WHOEVER believes that demanding these women observe culture norms to make other people feel comfortable will somehow help them change their religious culture deserves to hear from other women that men should have no right to think they’re in charge of that. It has to come from inside these women, NOT from outside forces demanding conformity.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            x 1000

          • It’s NOT a cultural norm.

The vast majority of Muslim women are not a part of the very few extremist Muslim sects who force women into such self-denigrating behavior.

And now, since it’s cleat that there’s no way my position is not going to be twisted and misrepresented, for instance claiming I support this French law, I’ll stop here as anything I say is pointless.

          • MsPythia

Bullshit. Most Muslim women are expected to dress conservatively, and this is not just extremist sects who expect that.

          • Edwin

Some prefer it for modesty and they like not being leered at like pieces of meat.

I think it would be pretty cool to wear one myself, but not in the present heat (in Korea.) I’d love to be covered head to toe with just my eyes showing.

          • Nancy

yup-it’s a physical and psychological barrier that some find comfort in.

          • Edwin

Maybe I’ll try it one day. Who would know? ^.-

            Really, who would know?

          • Nancy

keep me updated on that would you?

          • MsPythia

It’s not my business or anyone else’s business to tell them what to do. It’s definitely stupid as hell for cops to be trolling the beaches with guns on behalf of their religious discrimination.

          • Really, but then you’ll allow their husbands to force them to do what these men want them to do? Isn’t that exactly telling them what to do? (obey their husband’s wishes, under threat of violence)

          • cathyx

You’re assuming that all the women are against wearing them. That isn’t true.

          • Ok, then you’ll allow their husbands to force the vast majority of them who are being forced to do it by their husbands who regard them as property to do what these men want them to do? Isn’t that exactly telling them what to do? (obey their husband’s wishes, under threat of violence)

Better? It’s still the most horrific treatment of women that you wouldn’t allow in your own family or put up with yourself. So why are pretending it’s ok, just because a few of these women have stockholm syndrome about it?

          • cathyx

Look, I’m in agreement that those kinds of things never should happen. But forcing these women at gunpoint to disrobe is not the solution. And there actually are women who do want to wear them. I’ve seen interviews with them.
Why is ok for nuns to wear a habit? Why is this different than that?

          • MsPythia

It’s up to the women themselves to stand up to their husbands and their culture in that respect. Western women had to do the same with our tyrant husbands too. It’s not up to any government to point guns at people and demand that they strip. Period.

          • cathyx

Yes, exactly. The muslim women need a women’s movement to gain their freedoms.

          • MsPythia

Right — and they aren’t going to get that because men with guns demand they strip or be fined. The idea that some men think this is going to liberate them somehow are idiots. Liberation happens in the mind and is followed by personal actions, not because of another threat from another bunch of men.

          • Nancy

            yup.

        • I said the law was silly and racist. That doesn’t answer why anyone would cover up like that, at a beach.

          • cathyx

To them, it’s a religious thing. No matter how crazy we think of it, they should be allowed to do that.

          • I question that. I think it’s a male-domination thing and nothing more. It’s plain and simple misogyny.

          • cathyx

That’s still no reason to police what they wear.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            It is a male-domination thing.

It’s a male domination thing when they are forced to cover up and forced to uncover up. These fuckers aren’t “saving” them from being oppressed, they are just doing another form of it.

          • cathyx

Forcing them to uncover isn’t the answer to that problem.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Exactly. Whether they want to pretend they are being “noble” by “freeing” them to undress partially against their will, or “protecting” them by having them cover up, it’s the same damn thing.

          • MsPythia

            Exactly.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

It’s all about control. They’d never, i repeat again NEVER would would hold a man at GUN POINT, because he didn’t show enough skin or showed too much.

          • MsPythia

Right. It’s about dominating women. Again.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

But this time, the French Government is “saving” them from oppression, by forcing them to do something they don’t want to do.

          • Are you sure they don’t want to? Now who’s speaking for all women?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

If they are being held at gunpoint, I think it’s pretty clear they don’t want to do so.

          • MsPythia

Don’t help me I can save myself / If I’m incomplete don’t fill the gaps /
Save me from the people who would save me from myself / They got muscle
            for brains

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTzpOBMtkTs

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • Yes, I agree, their extremist religious sect’s version of marriage is all about control. Men, controlling what these women wear, think, who they associate with….

          • SpiffyTheValiant

So is this law. It’s about controlling women and putting a religious minority in their place.

          • Never said they were. You’re letting an a-priori position make you completely ignore, right up front, where I said: “I think the ban is silly and racist.” But allowing these womens’ owners (and that how their husbands think of them and treat them) to force these women to hide themselves is just as silly and misogynist.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I’m not sure what aproiri is.

I saw that. But it is more than silly and racist to me. It is sexist and borderline rape.

          • But it’s not misogynist and, often, accompanied by actual rape, when the men they were forced to “marry” make them wear these things in the first place?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

You’re my friend. This topic just set me off. It is an outrage.

If they are raped and forced into marriage, that’s horrible misogyny, that however does not excuse this bullshit of a law.

This isn’t just silly and racist. This is extremely sexist. Supposedly this is about “protecting” women. I’m sure that the men that force them to wear those outfits (when force is involved, which it likely isn’t the majority of the time), think they are “protecting” them to. Either way, it comes down to taking control from the woman. If a woman wants to cover up, she should be allowed to do so. It’s not “liberation” when you force “freedom” on someone.

          • RTIII

Actually what it is is it’s a male-ownership thing; not letting other males get to see what you own!

          • MsPythia

What do you think forcing them to take off clothes at gunpoint is?! Male domination on the flip side. Leave them the fuck alone and let them enjoy the beach, for pity’s sake!

          • Again, I didn’t say the law was right. But neither are its targets. I can criticize both, from a perfectly moral standpoint.

          • cathyx

Should the police target nuns too?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Hmm somehow, I think the French would be just fine with nuns.

          • Edwin

Some smart nuns should go to that beach, pronto, and call the press before they go.

          • Edwin
          • SpiffyTheValiant

I think it’s time to call Nuns on a Bus and see if they aren’t interested in going on a trip.

          • cathyx

Strip that woman, she’s not getting her vitamin D dressed that way. Plus her husband, aka, God, demands this total coverup, how repressive of him.

          • towerofbabel

Hot! I mean she must be hot in all of the layers.

          • MsPythia

This isn’t about mere criticism — it’s about the police acting as boorish culture tyrants and chauvanist pigs, pointing guns at peaceful women, and fining them for not adhering to mainstream clothing norms. I hated that shit when I was a punk rocker, and I hate it now.

          • cathyx

I hated that in elementary school when i had to wear a dress.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

@.@ yeah different era lol. It was rare to see a girl in a dress when I went to school.

          • MsPythia

Me too! In the fucking snow!

          • cathyx

Try and play kickball in a dress.

          • MsPythia

I remember walking to school in tights and a skirt or dress in the snow, and then getting to school with my legs freezing and soaking wet in the tights, and having to wear them like that until they finally dried sometime after lunch — so miserable and unnecessary! Women and girls have always been policed about what we wear and it’s ridiculous that they’re still trying to do that to us — we should tell men to just fuck off about what they think about our clothes!

          • cathyx

            Hear hear!

          • Edwin

I wished in elementary school I could wear a dress. What a crazy mixed-up world we live in. :/

          • cathyx

            Edwin, I love you.

          • Edwin

            ^.^

          • MsPythia

I want to live in a world where people can be who they want to be, and wear whatever the hell they want to wear. It’s what I’ve always wanted — anarchist mentality, I guess.

          • Edwin

I knew a guy back in Canada that included things like refrigerator shelves and vacuum cleaner tubes into his clothes. You never knew what he would dream up next. (He made all his own clothes. He wasn’t crazy, he was eccentric and perhaps visionary.) He probably went on to become a big time fashion designer.

          • cathyx

Woudn’t shelves and hoses be kinda heavy to walk around wearing?

          • Edwin

He was very clever blending them into his outfits. (I don’t think he wore them to work. They were “club wear”– as in gay clubs.)

          • Edwin

He didn’t seem to think so. He carried it off with grace.

          • MsPythia

I love that. I wish people felt freer to dress extravagantly and outrageously. Many of my friends are wacky with their clothing and I adore it. Imagine if we all got to express ourselves without other people having a fucking cow about it? The world would be so much more fun.

          • Edwin

It’s on my to do list. Something I thought about doing many years ago. Going out in strange dress in Seoul just to see how people reacted to me. (Just for kicks.)

          • Edwin

            No Rules. M’Kay?!

          • Edwin

I remember on the cold, blizzard days, girls could wear pants as long as they put a skirt on over top. Kinda silly, no? Like that really did anything.

          • towerofbabel

I have known many Muslim women (I worked in Lebanon) some wore the hijab, some didn’t. I have never spoken with a woman in a burka–and, yes, they creep me out. But, so does a baseball cap on a republican. But a hijab is just a scarf and it can look rather attractive. If they feel they want to wear that symbol who am I to tear it from their heads? I mean really? There are plenty of cultural symbols that I don’t like but I’m not prepared to intervene unless someone is asking for help and can’t help themselves. In the West, our hegemony makes us blind to our myriad behaviors that offend others and conjure up things like, I don’t know, drone assassinations? Americans (and the French?) need to clean up their own behavior before projecting their will on everyone else. Anyway, that is the only way to change these cultural forms short of genocide. In other words, don’t reinforce them by attacking them needlessly. Lead by example.

          • s k

Maybe they are there for their children.

          • towerofbabel

She does it because that is part of her cultural identity. You and I do not know if she feels oppressed in her cultural milieu. And, it is presumptuous to assume that she does (like the police and whoever wrote that law) when we have no information about her. My issue, and I’m not accusing you of this, is that many Westerners have used similar cultural symbols like a red flag to encourage indiscriminate attacks on a huge cross section of the world’s ethnic populations. This is how imperialists do imperialism–by “othering” people and then taking whatever they want. The French were great at imperialism. Still are. But they can’t touch the US.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

That and imagine the outrage if a man was told to change into a speedo for not showing his package enough?

        • cathyx

He’s probably got a nothingburger in there anyway.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lmao

          • MsPythia

You are so funny! Thanks for making me spill iced tea all over my jeans!

        • Edwin

Hang on a second there…. (thinking)

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lol

          • towerofbabel

You agree with that new speedo law?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Nah he just is trying to figure out how to make a joke about speedos, me thinks.

          • towerofbabel

I forgot to insert “Speedo” in that sentence.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            lol

          • Edwin

I don’t think anyone made the speedo law yet, did they? Just thinking about it.

      • towerofbabel

Live and let live. That is the fastest path to a liberal society.

        • I’m not the kind of person who is content to stand by and let wrong be done to another person, against their will. And that is the case with women who are abused by these minority, extremist sects of Islam, that force these modesty-regulations on them and which they had no voice or choice in being a part of.

          • towerofbabel

Was that woman being abused? I don’t know enough about the story.

          • MsPythia

So in other words — because their husbands are misogynist bastards, other men get to be the boss of telling these women what to do to thwart their misogynist bastard husbands in what ever way possible, including demanding that these women be forced to strip at gunpoint? The problem here is that men in general should step off, and leave these woman, and indeed ALL women to make decisions about what they want to wear for themselves.

          • cathyx

I think what annoys me the most with your argument is that you’re another man who knows what’s best for women, and for what women should do. In other words, another boss of women. And you kind of have a condescending attitude about it when we’ve been discussing this.

    • s k

Fashion police on the beach, what morons.

    • Nancy

Ms posted this earlier-no worries, it’s good to see it again, this killed me:

According to Siam, many beachgoers supported the officers and some went as far as applauding them.

“Racist terms were used freely… I was stunned,” she said, adding “I heard things which no one had ever said to me, like ‘Go home!’ ‘Madam, the law is the law, we’re tired of the stories’ and ‘We’re Catholics here!’”

      we are Catholics here WTF!!!

      • RTIII

Funny because their churches have been empty since at least WWII.

        • Nancy

          in France?

          • RTIII

            Yep. They’re token Catholics now…

          • Nancy

I just checked that and although they claim to be catholic-their attendance is down. hypocrites.

          • RTIII

            yep!

          • towerofbabel

Most who identify as christians these days behave in a way opposite to the teachings of the social activist who is said to be the founder of their religion.

      • Edwin

The former air-hostess from Toulouse was issued a ticket saying she was
not wearing “an outfit respecting good morals and secularism”.

I wonder if they would do the same to nuns if they went to the beach.

        • Nancy

          right…. they hypocrisy is blatant.

        • cathyx

Yeah, why do nuns cover up so much?

          • Nuns are forced to cover up for much the same reasons Muslim women are forced to cover up. In early Catholic history, women as a group were forced to cover up to such a degree. At least, for what that’s worth, it’s only now a sub-group of women who choose such a male-submissive lifestyle.

          • Nancy

where is the outrage over this?

          • I wish I knew.

          • cathyx

The french police aren’t stripping them at gunpoint at the beach.

          • No, because the French are Catholic. Just like Saudi police aren’t stripping women wearing burkas (but have stripped Catholic nuns) at gunpoint.

            Religious bigotry doesn’t excuse misogyny.

          • MsPythia

Nothing excuses cops harassing women by wearing guns, batons, and pepper spray and trolling the beaches as the cultural clothing police either.

          • Edwin

Clearly, the answer for Muslim women is to go to the beach dressed as nuns.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

I sorta like Gary just based on the fact that he’s got the guts to run as a Third Party Candidate and he did team up with Jill for that law suit. His politics are nuts, but I admire the guts. If that makes sense?

          • Not most but actually “all” of his economic policies I stand in direct opposition to.

So when I hear his name the first feeling that I have to fight is disgust.

I’m sorry to disagree with you because I do love you so…but guts means absolutely nothing to me, if you’re ultimately fighting for what I believe to be all the wrong things.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

“Judges Across The Country Are Shaking Down Poor People”

Troy and Wendy Hadley nearly became homeless because they couldn’t come up with $35 in court fees.

The trouble started while they were both waiting to find out whether they would be approved for Social Security disability benefits. Their disabilities mean neither is capable of holding down a job, so as they waited, they survived on food stamps to eat and relied on a local agency that helps low-income people pay rent to stay housed. But the program only covered Wendy at first, so half the rent went unpaid.

A police spokesman reported that the officers had their guns drawn but weren’t pointing at Preston. The boy’s mother, Patisha Solomon, said the officers told witnesses that the short-haired, clean-shaven 10-year-old fit the description of the suspect — a 20-year-old man that has facial hair and dreadlocks. When the officers realized their mistake and caught the actual suspect on another street, they didn’t apologize, Solomon added.

“Baltimore police confirms aerial surveillance of city residents”

Police spokesman TJ Smith insisted that the privately funded agreement between Persistent Surveillance Systems and city police “was not a secret surveillance program”. Before Wednesday, not even the mayor, city council, and board of estimates had been told about the program.

“There was no conspiracy not to disclose it,” Smith said.

Many officials and activists thought otherwise. The office of the public defender issued a statement saying that the “secrecy of the program has precluded any oversight of the technology’s use” and warned of “abuses that are ripe from its use”.

  • Shohanna

I am awake now. I spent 4 hours after I got home attempting to sleep. O.O strong daylight feature. My BP was 220/120 at the doctor’s office. He wasn’t panicked. Nope. Decided to give me ANOTHER fucking pill instead of you know actually doing something about the problem.

I put “AUTOPSY” in my living will. B/c I want these fucking asshats to be charged with neglect when I die. I have been fighting with them for the last 6 fucking years. 12 yrs ago I collapsed down an entire flight of stairs. I died on those goddamned stairs and for some God forsaken reason, God allowed me to LIVE. I don’t know why. I have been in pain for 12 yrs. My pain is not at the level it was when I spent 9 months in bed, but I still suffer. More ways then one apparently.

People wonder why I am so blunt and straight forward. For some reason I am always called a fucking liar. I don’t know WHY! If I could change one goddamned thing about my life, I would wish for people to believe me. I don’t care how outrageous you think it is, whether I should be dead or not. I DON’T care what other people say. But I do wish they would treat me with dignity and respect.

Why? I have felt both my ribs. I have rolled over and had a rib stuff it’s goddamned self into my heart while I cough up blood. I can move that fucker, you know that? I CAN MOVE it. You wonder why they won’t show me the goddamned X-Rays? Cause I would sue them for so much fucking money it would break the entire place. Malpractice!! I have accidentally? seen 1 scan in all of this that PROVES what I feel. That was a heart scan. Holy cow that was the most awesome test I have ever had. Know what showed up on it? A pure white line starting near the center of my heart and spanned all the way to the bottom of my heart. I asked the doctor what that was, know what he said? “I don’t know”. /nod I know what the fuck it was, and I felt so vindicated!! Has my heart doctor wanted to see me since that scan?! FUCK NO! I even told him what it was and he looked at me like I was some kind of nut. LOL Here he is, educated and respected, had the BALLS to say he didn’t know but discards my theory as “NONVIABLE” crazy talk. WTF?! He couldn’t atleast Explore it like the rest of us do when we find something we don’t know about?!

I remember about 7 yrs ago. I was laying down for bed, inching around looking for a comfortable position that wouldn’t make my heart wobble and bleed. I felt this rib move out of my heart and the pressure released. I immediately did a huge sigh. I fell a sleep in less than a minute and woke up after 12 hours. I hadn’t been able to sleep a full night since the fall. It was the first time I felt fucking rested and I stopped craving rare steaks and other items that help you make blood.

I had been anemic for 5yrs. I craved blood. Meat, meat and more meat. Which isn’t good for you in that amounts. I am constantly dehydrated. I can drink 120oz a day and STILL be dehydrated. (No, they can’t explain that either.) When that rib moved, I felt my “time” line move. I knew I wouldn’t die with in the time frame I had dreamed. I wasn’t happy about it in the sense that I would continue to exist WHILE they continue to ignore, and obfuscate about my current condition! I go to bed at night wishing I don’t wake up. So I won’t have to deal with another day of bleeding added to the pain.

So I stopped bleeding. Finally. I have been trying to eat burgers and my usual fair and it tastes horrible. lol I am trying to stay low salt, and low sugar. (Can do the sugar no problem!) I can’t cut more salt!! I have tried over and over and it’s either starve to death or have salt. :/ I have even HAD to drink Gatorade for the electrolytes b/c I was about to pass out.

I have described everything in explicit detail. I have looked up every possible reason why these are happening. Diabetes? /nod thought of that too. I still have hypoglycemia. I still will pass out if I don’t eat. I still have shaking in my heart if I don’t eat every 4 hours. I still make too much damned Insulin to be diabetic. Fibromyalgia? Nope. Mom has it, I don’t. My Smoking?

Well I have actually tested that theory too. 4 days in the hospital earlier this year. Not a single cig and my BP was still through the roof and blood work normal! Still dehydrated, Still every 4 hours I have to eat. I can not go longer or I start to shake violently. Still in hyper drive trying to live. When you have been this close to death. You get a sense of things that just aren’t the same. When you are in “survival” mode, certain aspects scream at you. You can’t ignore it. While I am not bleeding currently, I am STILL in survival mode. They haven’t changed it. I HATE not being articulate. This is why I can’t write a book to save my life. My BP still is out of control even on medications that are suppose to bring it down. My bad cholesterol is “normal range”. These things don’t happen for no reason and they don’t continue to happen for NO REASON.

This is why I am such a bitch about the truth. I do not lie if I can fucking help it. I Don’t want them KILLING me accidentally, I REALLY don’t have a death wish. The death wish comes from being IGNORED and in constant fucking PAIN.

Thanks for reading I had to get that off my chest.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

o.o <3 if you would like to talk, you know im here and at chatzy…

      • Shohanna

I know, it’s just really hard to continue to talk about it. I get emotional and start to cry. I just wanted to vent about it. I feel better now. But thanks Spiffykitty!

        • SpiffyTheValiant

          <3 okay.

          • Shohanna

Hey, if I did want to talk about it with you, (at some future point) which chat? 17’s? Chatzy thingy?

    • Nancy

big hugs-that i awful! so sorry to hear you are going through that Sho.

      • Shohanna

Thanks Nancy. I just wanted to vent about the Dr’s office. I feel this every single time I talk to these respected individuals who are just too rushed and too into their own lives to take a moment and listen.

I can’t change my doctor’s either. I am on Medicaid which is another fucking thing that adds to the politics when you are in for “check ups”. I just want to be out of pain. You know?

        • Nancy

ugh…there is no reason for this bullshit-I hate what your medical system is doing to people.

          • Shohanna

Well, without it I would be dead by now. At least I have some sort of health care even if it’s “That can’t possibly be true!” type with the doctors.

          • Nancy

I understand but I think it could be so much better given your frustration and dissatisfaction you are meeting.
I sure hope it improves for you.

Thanks! I hope so too! lol

          • MsPythia

Sho — I have an Apple computer, but I think it should be kind of similar on a PC… Symbols on mine are located under my keyboard preferences — I just told my computer to show them and the little box for symbols are in a box on my main toolbar.

          • Shohanna

Hmm yes there are files with symbols But I don’t know if I could bookmark them or make them easily accessible. I have to check it out. Thanks for reminding me.

      • MsPythia

Me too. 🙁 (((BIG HUGS))) I’m so sorry. You need better doctors that won’t lie to you, too.

        • Nancy

well thanks for the hugs but I do know you mean these for Sho!
          😉

          Do it!

If I had listened to the first doctor I went to after suffering a back injury in an auto accident, I might be crippled today.

My first doctor, when I told him I was going to find another, had the balls to tell the insurance company that there was nothing wrong.

          • Shohanna

Oh wow. I will have to get some extra cash from my parents and clear it with them. I can’t work. I haven’t had a job since I fell. Nor will they hire me for ANY capacity because I am a serious liability. lol At least according to the interviews I have had. :/ I can’t lie about something like this. It’s not like I can HIDE it.

  • Shohanna

Going to fix “breakfast” and have some questing to do. I check in laters guys. *hugs* Thank you for being my friends and putting up with me! Thanks Unka for this awesome place to gather and exchange info and being a great guy!

            So what’s been happening?

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            hmm <3 not much.

      • Shohanna

I do, you guys help so much. I don’t have any RL friends. They abandoned me when my ex husband left. I wouldn’t want them as friends either if a divorce is enough to make them refuse to talk to me. Right?

It gets harder and harder to make friends because I just don’t have time and patience for time consuming relationships where usually it’s just one sided. I have had my FILL of one sided relationships to last me a life time.

So, I am a loner? Until I really need some emotional support. I try not to rely on my kids. They won’t like me later on when I need them if I rely on them too much, you know? Besides, who wants to scare their kids off from making friends and having a life? I sure as hell don’t. I also don’t want to screw up my daughter’s marriage. I can’t stand her husband. He is shall we say a slight creep and likes to rub all over me and is overly affectionate. **shiver** I can only stand so long of him before I want to slap him silly.

The pharmaceutical company that distributes the EpiPen is also a Clinton Foundation donor.

Hillary Clinton criticized the company, Mylan, on Wednesday, calling its price hikes of the life-saving medical device “outrageous.”

“It’s just the latest troubling example of a company taking advantage of its consumers,” said Clinton.

But those remarks highlight Clinton’s radio silence on the price of the EpiPen, which has grown steadily since 2007, when Mylan acquired rights to sell the 50-year-old drug.

EpiPen injections, which help stop potentially fatal allergic reactions, cost $57 in 2007. They now run $609. According to CNBC, the price of EpiPens has increased at a steady rate in those nine years.

As of May 2011, the price was $165. That rose to $350 in 2014 and $461 last year.

    • Sickening, Hello Daniel :^) How did your day go?

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Annoying day. Visual Studio seems to be missing some stuff and won’t compile for Android. Also seem to be having some driver issues and Windows 10 is annoying me with their no unsigned drivers bs. I got VS to work talk to my work Mac and that all seems to be working. So partially there. Well you asked 😀

        Yourself?

        • Bill Paying, humid & sticky. No real headache, but it could have been a better day.

Unfortunately people in Kokomo Indiana got hit with a tornado. I think they said it was an F3.

All my peeps in Central Indiana are fine both personally and their property, and no fatalities that I know of overall

In 2013, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas predicted the film industry as we know it would “implode” if/when, in the near future, too many wildly expensive blockbuster movies flopped. And if ever there were a year for an implosion on that scale to occur it would be 2018, the year when there are nearly as many major studio tentpole releases as there are weeks in the year. Well, here’s the thing …

Do you like big blockbuster movies? The kind that will make a billion dollars but will never be financially profitable, thanks to Hollywood’s shady accounting practices? If so, here’s the insane slate of blockbusters 2018 has to offer:

Avengers: Infinity War, Ready Player One, Pacific Rim 2, Aquaman, Toy Story 4, Deadpool 2, Black Panther, The Flash, How To Train Your Dragon 3, Ant-Man And The Wasp, Jurassic World 2, The Predator, Fifty Shades Freed, Jungle Book: Origins, Marry Poppins Returns, Tomb Raider, Alita: Battle Angel, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 2, The Secret Life Of Pets 2, an animated Spider-Man movie, Hotel Transylvania 3, The Wolf Man, Wreck-It Ralph 2, the Star Wars Han Solo spinoff, the Transformers Bumblebee spinoff, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Gigantic (Disney’s next hand-drawn animated musical).

    http://www.cracked.com/blog/why-blockbuster-movie-bubble-will-burst-in-2018/

The death of the blockbuster, and knowing how Hollywood works, they’ll bribe plenty of politicians to toughen up copyright laws. Will we get an individual mandate for movies? Mandatory prison sentences for talking about them outside of approved channels? Stay tuned.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3 yay

  • notisaidthepig

Good evening. I’m back from that Bernie event….. I have to say it was interesting. I had a hard time keeping quiet! The guy hosting the event said that after today’s announcement about those eight Our Revolution leaders quitting the organization half of the people who had signed up canceled. (There were eight of us there.)

I brought up Jill Stein and the Green Party as soon as I could. Reactions varied. Everyone there said they would not vote for Clinton. The host said that he didn’t like the GP because it was “too emotional.” I just let that slide.

The livestream was underwhelming to say the least. Nothing new. Bernie spoke about how much has already been accomplished. (I’m not so sure about that.) Then he spoke about two things Our Revolution was supporting: over 100 progressive candidates at all levels of government and 7 ballot initiatives (like the single payer one in CO).

No one was happy to hear that Jeff Weaver was going to be the top dog of Our Revolution. For me, this event was the final nail of the coffin. Of course, I will continue to support progressive candidates and issues but I want nothing to do with the Democratic party and have no faith in anything the establishment says.

    • SpiffyTheValiant

Oh it was too emotional for him. So he’s not going to vote for Clinton. I assume he’s not voting for Trump. So what is the dumb fuck going to do?

      • notisaidthepig

I thought it was ridiculous and had to stop myself from saying anything. He’s a Democrat though and said there’s some meeting on Saturday of the Nevada Democratic delegates to sort out some problems from the various conventions. Apparently, Keith Ellison is playing referee. He said the party violated its own rules and the Bernie delegates want to call them out on it. Good luck with that at this late date!

        • SpiffyTheValiant

I would have called that fucker out. I either would have shamed him into voting for Jill or made him run off crying. I can show him emotional!!!!!!

          • notisaidthepig

Well, he was hosting so I didn’t want to start an argument as I was a guest. Still. My silence spoke volumes. Sadly, there was an elderly couple that seemed to never have heard of Jill Stein. Sigh. I did my part though and tried to encourage others.

The most interesting part of the evening was that I had to play interpreter! There was a deaf gentleman there and he thought the livestream would be closed-captioned. Alas, it was not. He got very lucky that I was there and could interpret for him. Some might say it was fate.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            Yes, it was fate.

He’s lucky the pig is more polite than a rainbow unicorn cat butterfly!

          • MsPythia

You are such an awesome and multidimensional piglet.

          • notisaidthepig

A pig does what he can!

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Fuck the dems, we need to shift the narrative away from the one party rule.

          • notisaidthepig

            Yep.

          • Daniel is the real problem a two party system or neoliberal economic policy?

          • notisaidthepig

Both, me thinks. We need more than two options. And, of course, neoliberal policies are inimical to the working class.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I would say both. Both parties have been there too long and have rigged things so only they get any air time and ballots. The last 30+ years there’s just been too much shift towards economic fascism.

          • Has having multiple parties help Britain successfully combat neoliberal economic policy? As far as I can tell…it hasn’t.

Is our Focus two party Monopoly or neoliberal Economic Policy here.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Don’t forget how much influence the US has in foreign elections. We’ve pushed a few “liberal” leaders to implement neo liberal policies.

          • Shohanna

2 party system. End of, You can have any kind of economic policy but you can’t so far change the “status quo” without removing the mechanisms that put it there.

          • kreskin

It’s not just economic policy , it’s foreign policy also. The two party system is rigged , both sides are corrupt as hell , there is no lesser evil . The BIllionaires , the corporate / Wall Street CEO’s and our politicians … both sides of the isle , are as one . This is no longer any sort of a democracy .

          • My priority is economic policy because my theory on this is when people have the money that they need to survive and thrive war is not something that people are willing to participate in.

And I’m not making an argument for the Lesser evil. I’m asking what is our priority and focus and what would do the most good.

          • kreskin

Not true at all . Look at these radical Islam , it’s not about money . Money alone , isn’t enough for the rich and powerful , they want control and power. What would those in the MIC , all the career people in the Pentagon and the military , all the clowns in these stink tanks , do if there was peace ? If there were no boogey man ? This government isn’t about peoples well being , it’s about world domination and control . Look at all the fats cats who have ended up behind bars . You wonder why ? They had it made , millions of dollars , but still committed crimes , just could not get enough . This government controls the media plays the people like a friggin fiddle . When’s the last big war protest you saw in this country ?

          • Shohanna

Oh damn what was that called… I have to reread it. Always war in “Eastasia”.. Then they would change it and always war in the other area to propaganda the people to believe it was the other country.

1984 was a goddamned MAP for them. They USED it to create what we are moving towards. If Stephanie is reading this, if you want an awesome treatise on what is happening with our government RIGHT NOW, read this book. Compare.

You will never trust the government or anyone in it again. I can promise you, they used this book to map out what they want. Power and Control.

          • kreskin

Common sense / rationality does not apply when talking about the control and dominate the world war mongers. They’re fucking nuts .

          • Dosido3

            ^^^^THIS^^^^

          • MsPythia

            Word.

          • Shohanna

So true, they want us to be centered on Dems as if they are some kind of fucking hero. It matches their narrative. I won’t give it to them.

There ARE more parties then Dem and Rep, period. We NEED more parties just because 2 party rule was so wrong to begin with.

After I researched about on Jill Stein. This woman has my solid vote and support!! /nod

OMG. It’s hysterical. I told Sho she can NEVER change her avatar. It cracks me up every single time.

            XD the hair whip.

          • notisaidthepig

            It really suits her! 😉

          • Shohanna

Hair whip suits me?! Do you know how far away from that “stereotype” I am? LOL I don’t even wear dresses or heels anymore. I don’t wear make up, and I stopped dying my hair. It has grey going through it now. /sigh

I have been mistaken for a man more then I care to admit. But I am definitely a Woman. I even contemplated a few times that I was a gay man in a woman’s body. /nod ROFLMAO

        • Nancy

such a waste of time…they are floundering so badly and trying to make something happen with the pile of shit they have.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Yeah, not gonna happen with that leadership.

          • notisaidthepig

I felt it was a waste of time. There was nothing new from Bernie. And supporting progressive candidates and ballot initiatives is a no brainer. There’s no need to an organization to do that, is there? I did bring up the fact that Bernie has been very quiet since the convention and everyone agreed he has been and no one was happy about that. Also, I wondered out load why Bernie was not helping Tim Canova out. Others nodded their heads. No one had an answer for that one.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I think he’s licking his wounds.

          • Nancy

they need to move on and focus on Jill or there will be a Clinton in the white house.

          • notisaidthepig

One lady said she was onboard with the Greens until Stein picked Baraka. She didn’t like him at all. However, she said she was a lifelong Dem that had Demexited and was now an independent and she would NEVER vote for Hillary.

          • Nancy

interesting. what are these people going to do?

          • notisaidthepig

Yeah, that’s the question. Not one word was really said about Trump. This lady that hated Baraka said she would definitely be voting for down ticket races and implied she might not vote for president.

          • Nancy

jesus-don’t the get how serious this is? yikes.

          • notisaidthepig

I’m hoping they are just processing through their disappointment. November seems like a long way off. I have a feeling lots of people are going to drift to Stein…eventually.

          • Nancy

true…however it really isn’t when you look at how much ground she has to cover between then and now-she needs money and feet on the ground. she is so far behind now and needs to get some serious airtime and press to build up momentum.

          • notisaidthepig

You are so right. But it’s just been a month since the Dem convention and look at how busy Stein has been. She’s getting more and more press. And her numbers have increased. Also, she is relentless and keeps hammering the Dems. I think it will pay off. I heard the most interesting idea for the debates (it was someone’s comment on the Sane Progressive’s YT channel). I think Stein might have an idea or two up her sleeve.

          • Nancy

good. I don’t feel like there is going to be a second time around for her-I could be wrong but I so want to see this break up the 2 party system.

          • notisaidthepig

I really do think this is the beginning of the end. The establishment has NO idea what working class folks are going through. And these folks have had enough.

          • Nancy

that will have made this all worthwhile. Bernie will have done great things inspire of what they have done to him.

          • MsPythia

She is so smart to do that. She is a truly brilliant and brutally honest woman, and proves it every time she speaks.

          • MsPythia

A lot of them will just stay home. Many don’t even believe voting matters at all now — and they might well be right to think so.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Some people don’t like being reminded of the role they play in imperialism.

          • MsPythia

Lot’s of white people are like that. I thank my lucky stars that my grandparents were Commies and gave me a good political class-consious education.

          • MsPythia

I don’t understand the animus against Baraka. He makes perfect sense to me. Is it because he called Obama a Tom. I think he’s a Tom too. Maybe some of these people are still too starry eyed over the bullshit rhetoric of Mr. small “hope and change.”

          • SpiffyTheValiant

They are primed to think any criticism against Obama is racist, because most Republican criticism was. The Republicans cried wolf too much, so now people like Baraka suffer for it.

          • MsPythia

Again we see the pathetically shallow political thinking of so-called “progressives.”

I align myself with the Eugene Debs camp of socialism and progressivism — who upon his 10 year conviction for violating the Sedition Act (via Democrat Woodrow Wilson) because he dared to give an anti-war speech prior to WWI, gave one of the most amazing speeches ever, and at the beginning of it he said:

“Your Honor, years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.”

That’s how I feel too. It’s people who believe themselves of a higher class of human being who pretend not to understand that it’s the system that’s rotten in America, and who pretend to be offended when people dare to call it out in the fullest terms, and against the most powerful.

          • Shohanna

Cognitive Dissonance is DAMN hard to get past. Ask me, I went through it. I used an old “Spock” saying. IF all avenues have been explored and eliminated then the truth left over is the answer.

Fascism. Bernie has been effectively silenced. We know damn well who did it.

          • MsPythia

Exactly Sho. I’m Green now. I will work for Green progressives. The Democratic Party isn’t worth spit now.

          • Shohanna

Same sweetie! I feel the exact same way. 😀

          • fredoandme

‘An ancestor of mine maintained that when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”

sherlock holmes. not spock. spock quoted the statement, saying that it originated with an ancestor. which, of course, gave rise to fan speculation that spock is distantly related to holmes on his mother’s side, or that sherlock holmes was actually a vulcan who had been stranded on earth.

fascinating, huh? come on. raise that eyebrow.

i adore connections. and will share them against the will of others. guilty of that. sometimes.

course, now, spock also claimed that “only nixon could go to china” was an ancient vulcan saying. though spock said that vulcans do not lie, he’s half-human, and we know that many, many humans are experts at it.

He also could have been referring to the original Spock as an ancestor. LOL

          • fredoandme

a lot of people, noting the many striking similarities in their characters, think that spock is inspired by, based on sherlock holmes. i would NOT be surprised.

i never really cared for basil rathbone. he was too stiff, though, on occasion he did get his hair mussed up, tie all out of whack. no glamour boy, he.

robert downey, jr., is an excellent sherlock. his two movies are art.

and bendysnatch cumberboot. when he opened his mouth and yelled, “my NAME IS KHAN!” i actually giggled. in the theater. then i watched his holmes. well. now, just like irene adler, i’m SHER-locked.

and you know what? montalban was 61 when he played khan and that’s his real chest. his outfit was specifically designed, with the open front, to show off the actor’s still firm pecs. talk about your fine corinthian leather.

          • Shohanna

Very brave for the time. /nod

          • Actually Noti, the Koch brothers have been very successful at pumping cash into state legislators local levels and Congress positions.

This is Bernie Sanders way of trying to infuse the same kind of cash into the state houses.

So I asked this question again how are you going to oppose Hillary or Trump for the next four years.

A focus on Congress on a national level as opposed to Simply voting in on your ballot. Is a brilliant idea.

I’ll be honest here Noti I feel like you are undermining an extremely effective tool simply because you’re angry or put out with the Democratic Party..
            which aren’t we all.

However the way I look at it is if I have to ride them like Zorro with third parties or threats from Progressive Canada versus neoliberal candidates I will be thumping on their heads in every direction that I can hit them from.

          • notisaidthepig

I don’t understand what you are saying.

            I’m not undermining anything.

I’m supporting and voting for candidates and ballot initiatives that align with my principles and values. I am seeking to become more engaged in my community, particularly the GP here in NV.

          • Did you not say in a post last night that the only reason you were going to the event was to push Stein and the green party, and that you could care less about what Bernie had to say. That to me is undermining the purpose of the event.

And keep in mind here it’s not that you pushed Stein and the green party so much as that you could have cared less about our Revolution that I find to be undermining the event.

But my real question is one that you have yet to answer…how are you going to oppose Hillary or Trump during the next four years other than Congress?

And is it not apparent that Bernie Sanders is trying to infuse cash on a national level the way the Koch brothers have done for the libertarian Republican movement.

          • notisaidthepig

I did say that but I mostly meant it in jest. Mostly. I was honestly curious to know who people were going to support for the presidential ticket now that Bernie was not an option. I only “push” Stein because that’s who I believe in. I don’t really browbeat folks into voting for someone. Who you vote for has to be your own decision. I might not agree with it but I do respect it.

And really, in the back of my mind, I still WANT to believe in Bernie. I gave a lot of my time and money to his campaign. I felt betrayed by him for a number of reasons such as that he never really spoke up about the election fraud and also I felt he did not follow through with his promise about fighting at the convention. Nothing I saw tonight on his livestream was encouraging to me.

And may I ask you something? You write: “you could have cared less about our Revolution that I
find to be undermining the event.” How are you measuring my level of “caring less”? I’ve very curious. Also, since when do you “own” our Revolution? The revolution is as much mine as it is yours. I don’t cede the revolution to you or anyone else.

And I do believe I answered your question: “I am seeking to become more engaged in my community, particularly the GP here in NV.” Why are you saying that I didn’t answer it? Is this not clear?

May I ask: what are YOU doing?

          • I have been very honest and upfront I am supporting every means available to push through Progressive values.

Including the green party, Our Revolution and Brand New Congress.

So how many green party members are in Congress right now zero. How many are on the precipice of coming into office in 2018?

Enough to fully apply pressure to Hillary Clinton and the Republicans, or could they stand arm-in-arm with Progressive Democrats brought in by our Revolution and brand new Congress.

How I judge somebody’s amount of caring is when they specify it. I apologize if I did not detect your humor or hyperbole.

I don’t understand your statement about me “owning” our Revolution so I will just ignore that.

I do care about you Noti. I don’t mean to make you feel as though you’re being attacked. But I see this as an awesome tool and I’m annoyed that it’s not appreciated I will fully be honest with my feelings, on this topic.

          • notisaidthepig

I think we are on the same page here. I support progressive values and principles. I would vote for a Dem such as Tim Canova or Alan Grayson in a heartbeat.

The GP website states: “At least 137 Greens in 16 states currently hold elected office in the United States.” You can find out who they are here:

            http://www.gp.org/officeholders

I’m not sure using the metric of no GP office holders in Congress is fair. The establishment parties have quite the stronghold on the system for a variety of reasons the most obvious one being the quid pro quo that comes with campaign contributions and main stream media collusion.

I think it’s too early to talk about the 2018 elections because this cycle is not over and it’s proving to be a transformational one which will, undoubtedly, impact the next one. Let’s take it one step at a time.

I’m not sure how anyone will be applying pressure to Clinton or any of the establishment Repubs and Dems. If they are willing to hijack the primaries to ensure their victory, I don’t think it bodes well for our future elections. But we’ll see. I do think if there is enough of a groundswell with the populace, then the tide will turn. I’m hopeful this is what’s happening.

No need to apologize. I wasn’t being humorous or hyperbolic. I was just trying to answer your question. I don’t think we are understanding each other here so I will leave it at that.

I did feel as if I was being attacked and I appreciate your efforts at trying to clarify the situation. I’m all for being honest…as you can see in this response.

            Oink!

          • MsPythia

Yeah. I felt and still feel betrayed by Bernie too. The fact that he refuses to actually address the completely dysfunctional and easily rigged voting system that stole the primary from the candidate we donated, and worked so damn hard for made me lose all confidence in him. There’s no excuse for that. Just like there’s no excuse for the fact that our money has now been confiscated by the people who cheated him, and ALL of us out of his win.

          • MsPythia

There’s no undermining “Our Revolution” — because it made no sense from the beginning anyway. I was a totally dedicated volunteer for Bernie’s campaign, and neither I, or anyone else I worked alongside of has taken this thing seriously. Most of us think that Bernie himself undermined his Revolution from the very moment he endorsed the establishment candidate who stole the primary from him, and who represents everything we were voting against, and working our asses off to defeat.

I gave him all I had during the primary. I will give him no money to pump into the DNC coffers, because it’s all going to Shillz. It was that way during the primary, and it’s that way now. Fuck Her.

          • He made a promise that it would neither go to the DNC or Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

I have enough faith in him, to take him at his word.

          • MsPythia

I disagree. He owed them NOTHING once it was clear that he’d been cheated by the DNC. He OWED ALL OF US WHO WORKED AND DONATED SO MUCH TO HIM MORE. Without us, there IS NO REVOLUTION.

          • Sorry MsPy, I’m specifically talking about the money that’s given to our Revolution.

And I don’t think he conceited to Hillary Clinton because he believed that he owed her or the Democratic party anything.

I believe he conceded because he thought it was the best maneuver for us and future Progressives that he could make.

You can disagree with his decision. But one thing that I think we can be assured of is that he did it because he thought it was his best option for us.

          • MsPythia

The money we donated all went into the DNC’s coffers for their down ballot races. They stole our money, just like they stole our primary. Fuck them. I’m not a Democrat any longer after working, donating and volunteering my ass off for them my entire life. They don’t deserve the money or the efforts, or the loyalty of people like me any longer. They stole from and cheated me too, and they can go fuck themselves.

          • My response to that would be…no neoliberal Democrats do not deserve your time or your money or your effort. However Progressive Democrats trying to change the system deserve our support.

This is just simply my take. The thing that makes the Democratic party evil at this point in time is that it has been captured by neoliberal Democrats who are essentially Republicans or corporate Democrats.

The target the focus and the things that I will work extremely hard to eliminate is the neoliberal policies that are supported by Democrats or Republicans. However Progressive Democrats running for office will not be on my shit list simply because they are Democrat.

          • MsPythia

I’m Green Party now. I’ve given enough to that corrupt neoliberal party and I don’t believe in what they stand for any longer. Only two among the so-called “progressive” politicians endorsed Bernie, the progressive candidate. They endorsed Shillz. They are SHIT in my eyes now. There’s no going back from who and what I now know them to be.

          • MsPythia

And btw, the DNC is being sued by Sander’s supporters. I’m one of them. I know I was defrauded by them. We all should know this by now. We were donating to a candidate they were making sure would lose by dishonest methods, and his money is now going to be used by the DNC to elect their candidates. I am one of the people in this class action suit because I don’t like being cheated and lied to.

          • kreskin

Half assed phony or blackmail ? What about Warren ? Can’t believe I’m having to ask that question about Bernie Sanders.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

Warren did it willingly. Bernie looked like he had a gun to his head the entire endorsement. Bernie didn’t do it by choice. Warren did. That’s what i believe.

          • kreskin

My gut tells me that both were threatened / blackmailed in some way . That’s what I want to believe .

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I think Warren sold out. Bernie was dragged kicking and screaming. But I can understand either interpretation.

          • Dosido3

I’m fucking ashamed of JohnLewis showing up for DWS. JFC on a pogo stick.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

John Lewis: I fought for Civil Rights and got my skull bashed in when I was young. Now I’m going to cash in on my legacy and fight to protect the people who would have gladly bashed my head back in, if they had known me back then. You can’t attack me, cause then you are attacking my legacy and people will shame you. I am a human shield.

          • Dosido3

You got that right, spiff. He’s got his. And his shit show on gun control. Nice theater. With the DWS BS I know that he’s all kabuki now.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

His younger self would be so pissed.

          • MsPythia

            Spot on.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            😉

          • MsPythia

I’d have taken the bullet. But that’s me. I stick my neck out all the way for what I believe. If Bernie was worried about his kids and his grandkids he shouldn’t have used the word revolution.

          • kreskin

I agree , the stakes could not be much higher , it’s not a good excuse … for either of them .

          • Dosido3

            That’s where I’m at.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

          • notisaidthepig

Actually, Bernie seemed his old self but tone down a bit. That was heartening. However, nothing he said was new or inspirational to me. I don’t really see the point of this organization “Our Revolution.”

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I think he just wants to be able to say, “It wasn’t for nothing. Look we made something.”

          • kreskin

How can he endorse Hillary Clinton and expect to be taken seriously when talking about some friggin revolution ? It’s a joke at this point. Not a funny one .

          • The point is to create money and pour it into congressional seats to opposed neoliberal economic policy.

No Progressive is going to get in where I live, but I can pour some money into our Revolution or brand new Congress and help a progressive get elected in California or Florida or New York or Nevada.

And if you can’t see how progressives and green party members can work together in Congress I don’t know what to say to that.

          • MsPythia

I don’t either. The only thing that would have made sense was to continue what he started outside the Dem Party. There is NO REVOLUTION inside it that can happen, and if he was as smart as we’ve given him credit for being, he’d have gone with the Greens. He just didn’t have the guts that his supporters and volunteers do, sadly. And he is clearly too tied to being “respectable” in the Senate.

        • MsPythia

Sell out. How can any progressive defend the Democratic Party at this point. Idiocy.

          • kreskin

            dishonesty

    • So if Jill Stein doesn’t become president what are you going to do for the next four years with a Hillary or Trump presidency?

      • notisaidthepig

What am I going to do? I’m going to do what I’ve been doing since forever: try to survive as best as I can. AND I’m going to become more involved to make sure that Stein wins in 2020 (I hope she runs for a third time!).

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

We have been losing a long time, just gotta keep trying.

          • notisaidthepig

Yep. But the tide is turning!

          • kreskin

          • kreskin

We can only try to be a pain in their ass , be as much of a hindrance as possible . .

      • SpiffyTheValiant

If Trump wins, I’m going to find a bunker and hope Congress cockblocks the worst of his stupidity or someone just has him on Twitter 24/7.

If Hillary wins, -_- I’m going to start looking for an Aslan. Male or female to take on the white witch.

        • :^) I’m going to fight them by any means available to me. Whichever asshat gets into office.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

      • MsPythia

Keep building the revolution. We have no choice. But it sure as hell isn’t going to happen inside the Democratic Party. They’ve burned all bridges with progressives with this rigged, invalid coronation of Shillary Rotten Kissinger.

Well…Donna Shalala is out promoting all the org changes that are going to happen at CF, some other HRC surrogate has accused AP of “cherry picking” and was deflecting to look under Trumps hood. Twitter , at least the folks I follow have blown up over it. BRB with some links.

Clinton Calendar, AP’s NothingBurger: Deja Vu All Over Again

        By shelleyp

Yup, she put that picture. As far as I’m concerned, Smelley’s “article” is a real nothingburger too. She’s her usual glib, airheaded, (effing stupid), d-bag self. I think that’s why Karoli loves her.

Nothing burger is her favorite term of invalidation. What a lizard brain.

      • Edwin

Oh, that’s right, you won’t give that cesspool a click. Here is some of her sassy-talk. I think she must have bought some thesaurus toilet paper.

As Yogi Berra would say, “It’s like Déjà vu all over again!”

The current fooflah over the AP story on Clinton’s Secretary of State calendar entries rang a bell. Of course it did. I wrote about it back in June.

        — blah blah blah —

Even Judicial Watch, my usual bête noire, provides the raw
records when it makes an assertion…. blah blah blah blah…

Mr. Braun better be careful. Pretty soon we’re going to start lumping
the AP in with publications like the Gateway Pundit. And then when he
shows his AP credentials at events, folks will start laughing.

She’s one sassy “journalist”. I particularly like her very very funny joke ending! :~>

  • Another foul legacy of the tobacco industry.

It Seems the Cigarette Industry Helped Create the Type-A Personality

These are the the excessively organized, the hard-chargers, the go-getters, the probable bullet journalers. It’s Stef Oud, a senior partner at Deloitte who rises at 4:30 a.m. each day to train for an Ironman; it’s Leslie Knope and her armful of binders; it’s the tiresome friend who sends you calendar invites for a simple happy hour.

    • Shohanna

Odd, I have a type A and I resist it every fucking day. LOL

      • Well, that’s probably a good thing, then…

When the Type A personality was introduced into the medical lexicon by a pair of cardiologists, it was considered a negative thing — a behavior pattern to avoid, not to admire…

  • notisaidthepig

Did you guys hear about the trouble Stein folks have had in WY? Apparently, they were trying to get signatures outside a Wallmart and the cops showed up and harassed them. Don’t we know someone who was on the board of Wallmart?

    • SpiffyTheValiant

Heard about it. Hate to say it, but Walmart might not have been the best choice for them to try to get signatures at. (Then again it’s Wyoming, so there might not have been a lot of choices… lmao I’m sorry. That was bad.)

  • I hate it when the NY Post is right.

American journalism is collapsing before our eyes

Donald Trump may or may not fix his campaign, and Hillary Clinton may or may not become the first female president. But something else happening before our eyes is almost as important: the complete collapse of American journalism as we know it.

The shameful display of naked partisanship by the elite media is unlike anything seen in modern America.

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Collapsed.

    • Dosido3

I follow David Sirota and GG on Twitter. The responses to their stories are shameful. Some people don’t seem to want democracy. Or understand the function of journalism.

      • MsPythia

        great comment.

    • Dosido3

Taken with Kreskins comment below that we don’t have a two party system. It’s the 1 percent and the rest of us. The elite media are members of the one percent. They are extensions of the oligarchy.

  • Just about to watch the Pilot and first episode of Amazon’s revival/reboot. I am not optimistic..

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Saw it last friday, the suits are over designed but the show and humor are good.

      • It’ll have to be pretty good. It’s starts the bad with: That guy looks nothing like The Tick, no chin, weak physique and on and on…

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

He has the voice down though. Arthur on the other hand I thought was meh.

          • I think his cadence is all wrong, he’s way too high-pitched, even squeaky. The Tick is not sqeaky.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

They really should have just gone with an animated Tick, but I enjoyed it.

          • Final Rating: ★☆☆☆☆. You’re better off re-watching the Fox series or the cartoon for the umpteenth time.

That actor is a failure, all the way around; his voice is all wrong, often squeaky: The Tick is not squeaky. He didn’t look or sound like The Tick does, in every other incarnation he didn’t capture the cadence of The Tick and he, in fact, looked more like Arthur, than The Tick. He towered over nothing. And he thoroughly butchered The Tick monologue, at the end. Mercifully, it was the end.

The story was all Emo-land Drama-Llama-Ville, not a drop of the cynical, biting, campy wit that is the trademark of The Tick stories.

The costumes… Oh god, what a disaster. The ill-fitting, sky-blue, badly-textured monstrosity that was The Tick’s costume/skin, shudder, and the roller-disco cum airline hostess outfit that they shoved the guy playing Arthur into… Words fail me.

I thought that “Tarzan” reboot was out of touch, but how they got this product from an Edlund script, I don’t know. Or, maybe that’s the problem: Edlund has been so long out of touch with The Tick, that he just doesn’t remember what made/makes it so great.

I’m sure the “Get-Along-Gang” of obligate-optimist consumer culture will buy, buy and buy, but as a gigantic fan of The Tick, since the very first issue, I’ll pass.

      • The real problem is that The Tick doesn’t wear a suit.

“Baltimore police confirms aerial surveillance of city residents”

Baltimore police on Wednesday acknowledged for the first time that city residents had been subject to aerial surveillance, after a Bloomberg Businessweek story revealed that airborne cameras had snapped continuous photos in cooperation with the police since January.

  • Here our my final thoughts on the disagreements of tonight.

Look to Michigan during the primaries for the problems that we will have.

Progressive Democrats only by a hair elected Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton. More voters came out to vote for Trump then Bernie Sanders.

This is telling.. of the unbelievable force that Progressive’s and Green Party members are going to have to engage and overcome.

Not only do we have to fight off in our government neoliberal Democrats, we as well are going to have to do battle with Libertarians and Republicans.

We will barely have a snowball’s chance in hell of achieving policy gains even if we Unite together, we are DOA if we don’t.

    • MsPythia

Only by a hair elected? No, the true problem is that our voting systems are not valid. The true problem is that the Democratic Party is a vipers den of corruption and dishonesty. The true problem is that Bernie won, and they stole it from the people.

There will be no gains possible until we actually face up to THAT shit. That we don’t have a democracy. That we are being fucked with by oligarchs.

      • panem et circenses

That’s a few of the problems, but they’re really effects rather than cause. “Fixing” the voting system would be plugging a leak in a boat full of holes, with new holes being added all the time. The systemic hierarchy of and enforcement of wealth and property is the problem, and it’ll always corrupt any group with power and divide the haves from the have nots, no matter which futile individual struggles we choose to engage in.

        • Shohanna

I dunno, when I was learning about government in middle school and high school, I was told that the base of all our power was in the 4th Estate. That without that crucial service, we could not in any way shape or form create a government that represents us. That it’s the bases of the 1st Amendment. The reason WHY it’s the 1st Amendment. Washington even said, “If you can keep it.”

Sure it was set up to be elitist back then too, but I doubt they imagined it would be this bad.

          • panem et circenses

As just one example, say you fix the voting system (which is actually a large number of individual fights in itself, few of which you’re likely to win). Now everyone has a vote and it’s counted. Now you’re left with the fact that in order to be elected to office it’s still going to cost an exorbitant amount of money, which makes it almost impossible to win without corporate financing (opening up the door to quid pro quo). You’re left with the fact that you still have a tiny number of people ruling over the vast majority, which enhances the possibility of corruption even further. You’re left with the fact that the entirety of the corporate media is against you (that fourth estate you mentioned), and will do anything in their power to bring you down. Once a new group gains power, they’ll need to expand their base of support to maintain that power, which will mean compromising their original values and becoming more and more like the powers we have now. The system will keep on rolling, and you’ll have ultimately been another speed bump on the road to the expanding of wealth and power by those the system is designed to represent.

          • Shohanna

Yes, however, we are not even close to a 4th Estate right now. It’s purely propaganda to enforce and continue the Elitists rule.

If we knew every detail, that they are up to, and continuing on. We would not be alone or in small pockets of supporters to fight it. We would have 10’s of thousands of supporters and would be able to root it out at the bottom and work our way up to eliminate this kind of ruling class.

Granted it just might take removing them all from office physically. But we would be able to connect each one to know who is the corruption and who isn’t. Especially with the 4th Estate protected and preserved. Which is why 50+ yrs ago it was the first to be removed. And they continued to break it down and down until we have what we have today. They would NOT have been allowed to do that had we had our 4th Estate. IT WAS there. IT WORKED. IT kept us in power.

      • Shohanna

Exactly! Do you know how many actual studies have been scrubbed from the net that proved election fraud?! Not voter fraud, ELECTION fraud. There were at least 10 states where Hillz stole the fucking election and not a goddamned peep out of anyone. But there were studies. I managed to read at least 5 of them. and now I can’t find hide nor hair of them.

I don’t agree with a couple of his assertions, particularly that Clinton isn’t as bad as those officials taking envelopes in some Philly bathroom and that Trump is any worse than Clinton, but it’s still a pretty concise example of what’s been happening since long before Clinton was even declared the Democratic nominee. Reporters have been a deflectionary arm of her campaign since day one, ignoring the obvious and muddling the truth to make her appear not as bad as her actions suggest.
