Saturday SciFi – The Thing With Two Heads (and Open Thread)

A particular cheesy favorite of mine from the 70s, this tale doesn’t take itself too seriously and actually ventures into a bit of Blazing Saddles-like commentary on race in America. And it’s soundtrack was a memorable piece of studio-work that would haunt my ears for years, as it was a frequent well from which rappers would sample from, in the later part of the decade.

Roger Ebert’s contemporary review says it all…

What a heck of a thing to happen to a guy. He’s a black man, convicted of murder and unable to persuade anyone of his innocence. He’s sentenced to the electric chair (apparently because the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction doesn’t include American-International Pictures). He’s willing to do anything to get another chance at life, so he volunteers for a weird medical experiment. The next thing he knows, he has Ray Millard‘s head parked alongside his left ear. This leads us to a philosophical point: is it better to be alive with Ray Millard’s head plugged into your neck, or to be dead?

Most of us would probably take Ray Millard, I guess. It’s not often you get to meet a real movie star. But Roosevelt Grier, who plays the escaped convict, doesn’t have such an easy choice.

The problem is that Ray Millard is an evil scientist who dreamed up the head transplant in order to ditch his old body because he was having a lot of trouble with arthritis. His sinister plan is to wait until his head grows on – and then cut Roosevelt Grier’s head off! Not only that, but Millard is a racist with a line of lousy cracks about watermelon for dessert.

Some days you just can’t win. It’s bad enough to try to work with a veteran actor breathing down your back – but in your ear?

The most incredible thing in “The Thing with Two Heads” is not the head transplant, however, but what happens next. Within hours after Milland’s head has been screwed on, the two-headed escapee is on a motorcycle and being chased by no less than 14 police cars. Every one of them is destroyed during the chase, a process that takes so long that seven, or even five, squad cars might have been enough.

“The Thing with Two Heads” is on a double-bill with another new horror movie, “Baron Blood,” about which the best that can be said is that it isn’t as awful as “The Thing with Two Heads.”

The publicity for the movie warns against the possibility of “apoplectic strokes, cerebral hemorrhages, cardiac seizures or fainting spells” during the movie, but they’re just trying to make themselves look good. The only first aid they really need is hot coffee for the patrons who doze off.

Enjoy the cheesy goodness…

Your Weekend of Weekends.

UnkaWillbur - May 26, 2017

Here' some links to nosh on, to start of your weekend. I hope everyone's weekend is great; me, myself, I'm planning on jumping out of a perfectly…

  • Nancy

    I got it!

    • Just don’t give it to me! And I hope you get better soon. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›

      • Nancy

        promise…thanks!

    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

      Congrats!

      • Nancy

seriously-I miss the adrenaline rush from the comment count.
that was really a hi-light some days!

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          Haha

      • Nancy

LOL…the gift that keeps on giving!

    • notisaidthepig

      Bravo!

      • Nancy

hey! how are you Mr. Pig? how is school?

        • notisaidthepig

I’m good and hope you are too. School is good except for that one class. There’s always one, isn’t there? πŸ˜‰ But that’s okay. Tomorrow is a holiday. Oink!

    • cathyx

I see you’re getting it at TBR too, lol.

      • Nancy

        yup-my turn.
it’s not a surprise-she is running out of people to be angry at.
I knew it was just a matter of time.

        • cathyx

I think she’ll be running out of steam here in a bit. But I”m surprised Neb hasn’t joined her yet.

          • It’s hard to escape from such an abusive relationship, such ill people are very good at drawing one back in. And any attention one gives them just resets the clock on their obsession with keeping you leashed into their illness.

          • cathyx

She is definitely obsessed with 17.

          • All of you, and she’s very successful at lassoing you all back into the orbit of her illness.

          • Nancy

I look at her as a client-it’s fascinating to me to watch this in action…
            seriously

          • cathyx

A case study, if you will.

          • Nancy

yes, I can still post there-as far as I know. I will never engage her again-watching this unfold is as much as I am interested in.
even at that-only in small doses.

          • Speaking from experience: You’re engaging her right now. πŸ™

          • Nancy

we have different experiences with this Unka.

          • I don’t think you’re doing her any favors, to be honest. It’s not a clinical setting and all that I see being accomplished is extending the obsession, on her part, and continuing to waste your time feeding the illness, on your end.

          • Nancy

I am not engaging with her.

          • This whole line of comments, and the one in the previous thread is clearly engaging her, in her mind, as she is, according to you folks, over there responding to you/provoking you.

But, you’re an adult, and can do what you want.

          • Nancy

well what is going on in her mind and what I am actually doing are two different things.

          • Nancy

            yes, isn’t that great!
I will only ever see this from a clinical point of view as this is my profession. I don’t separate the two. going head to head with her doesn’t interest me and if she chooses to react to my posts-that’s on her. I will not be silenced by her or anyone.

          • Shohanna

This, this right here is the fucking truth. I have met too damned many of them. Almost like I have some kind of damned magnet that brings them. I am like NOOOOO, Me no like drama go the fuck away! Leave me a lone It starts the stalking. /sigh

          • 17

Neb’s tied up in the corner, shakin’ his head, and wondering when this bitch is gonna shut the fuck up.

          • Nancy

the funny thing to me is that it’s the internet-seldom do people even know each other and this is how she behaves? start a new profile…move on and live your life. seriously who really gives a shit?

    • They’ll sling any mud they can scrape up.

      • towerofbabel

That means she’s on the radar.

    • Blue Basilisk

Now if only they gave a shit about how much environmental damage the TPP, those cash cow oil pipelines and fracking causes.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

        I wanna say that’s 41 states… but don’t quote me.

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

        41 just checked.

        • cathyx

That’s great. I checked a few weeks ago and the site i saw said she could eventually be on all but 2 i think.

        • Nancy

          afternoon!

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            <3

    • Yeah, this whole series of crazy-town speculation people have been engaged in, based solely on the media’s refusal to publicize her activities, has seemed silly to me, the answer always being, “with her constituency” the details of which the serfs need not be informed of.

      • kreskin

Anything but the truth . ( shakes his head )

    • SpiffyTheValiant

Probably trying to see if Bibi’s “iron dome” still works.

  • As I say, over and over, despite so many people wanting to believe the Big Lie…

Antibacterial soap is a marketing lie, just like everything else in your life

There is no proof that antibacterial hand and body soaps work better than normal soap or even that they are safe for frequent use, the Food and Drug Administration said on Friday. As such, the agency established a new rule that requires manufacturers to either remove certain ingredients from their products or else stop selling the products at all.

The move is aimed at countering consumer perception that the antibacterial washes are more effective at killing germs and preventing illness, said the FDA’s Dr. Janet Woodcock.

Hmm, I wonder how they got that perception?

    • EdgarHF

There is also the fact that not all bacteria is harmful, in fact some if not most bacteria, is beneficial.

      • Shohanna

Yup! I haven’t had any of the crap in my house. I let the girls eat dirt, get dirty and play.. They didn’t get as sick as most kids in their classrooms. I always told the girls there is good bacteria and bad and you don’t want to kill the good. It helps fight the bad. I saw that article earlier this morning and I sent a text to my mom and said “I told you so!” LOL Rather I wanted to but she doesn’t have a phone that has text. Ah well.

Film The Police β€” Speak Truth to Power

When you hear the phrase β€œspeak truth to power” at rallies or in music or in conversation, who is the β€œpower”? Many people might reply that it’s β€œthe government” or β€œthe corporations” or β€œthe banksters” and that by speaking truth, those folks may alter their actions, become less tyrannical, and stop oppressing people in
    some way.

But Ben Stone, author of Sedition Subversion and Sabotage Field Manual No. 1 has a different explanation.

How Congress Makes Regular Taxpayers Foot the Bill for Oil Pipeline Fat Cats

The idea that any business could force you to pay its taxes may strike some readers as beyond belief. When I first heard about this more than a decade ago my skepticism meter hit high alert. Then I started reading the laws, regulations, and official proceedings, none of which made the news. I’ve been writing about it ever since, hoping the public will demand an end to this abuse.

      Corporate Welfare

  • As I say all the time, Texas is a national disgrace, and we should eject it from the Union. “Tragedy” is not the right word, as it implies this isn’t a deliberate outcome of policies implemented by the authoritarian/right coalition that controls that state.

Texas Is One of the Most Dangerous Places in the Developed World to Have a Baby

Researchers studying maternal mortality in the United States recently reported an ominous trend: The rate of pregnancy-related deaths in Texas seemed to have doubled since 2010, making the Lone Star State one of the most dangerous places in the developed world to have a baby. Reproductive health advocates were quick to blame the legislature for slashing funding in 2011–12 to family-planning clinics that serve low-income women, calling the numbers a β€œtragedy” and β€œa national embarrassment.”

Not just that, but look at all the world leaders, allies of the U.S., who are warming up to Moscow recently. I’m tellin’ ya….the world’s preparing to put the U.S. in it’s place.

β€˜Nothing to hide’: Israel prepares for first-ever ICC visit

…the visit would be solely aimed at convincing the ICC that Israel’s judicial system works just fine and that β€œwe have nothing to hide”, Haaretz newspaper reported. • I haven’t watched it yet, but Universal basic income is an idea I would like to explore.
    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SMAkhDZqx9k

    • SpiffyTheValiant

      Spiffy endorses it. Yep.

    • panem et circenses

Universal basic income is a pipe dream in a country where the more “liberal” party dismantled welfare and other social safety nets. Even if against all odds it actually came to exist in the US, how long would it take for it to be whittled down to nothingness?

      • It’s a pipe dream until it’s not, nothing worthwhile has ever been easily achieved.

        • cathyx

They said that about gay marriage and legalized marijuana too.

          • panem et circenses

Neither of those fundamentally changed the economic system. The US overthrows and bombs countries for even considering screwing with neoliberal capitalists. They aren’t about to give workers the means to survive out of the goodness of their hearts, and you aren’t going to elect heroes to do it for you.

I’m not a fan of Varoufakis. He’s a capitalist reformer, and
capitalism can’t be reformed. Inequality and brutality are in its DNA.

          • towerofbabel

Sometime when we have time let’s talk about this. Capitalism cannot be replace without creating a comparably scaled alternative system. And state communism was also a disastrous system. The only way to change capitalism is to dismantle it piece by piece–keeping what is useful and trashing what is not. Attacking capitalism straight on, attacking it ideologically, only makes it stronger. I have to run but let’s get into this a little bit later.

          • panem et circenses

Varafoukis has some good sounding ideas about what could be done but no realistic way of how to get there and sustain them other than entryism through representative democracy, which simply doesn’t work. Capitalism has to be defeated for anything close to true freedom and equality to exist. Reforming it from within is impossible, because the flaws are inherent in the system and it will always quickly revert, as it has over and over again, in the rare cases it doesn’t outright reject.

The 20th century leftists’ greatest error was the belief that you can
slowly advance through socialism toward communism, keeping a form of hierarchy in place. This inevitably stagnated in vanguards and greedy opportunists and what began as a leftward movement turned into an authoritarian structure not much different than the far right movements.

Any system that can be corrupted, will be, and such half-measures without dismantling the economic and political system entirely are the quickest way to defeat. That’s why politicians like Bernie Sanders are talking about a new “New Deal” 80 years after it was put into place. What happened to the original New Deal? Capitalism. The system it was put in place to reform and save quickly swallowed it up.

Capitalism is in crisis because it’s always in a downward spiral of crisis. It’s simply a deeply flawed economic system by design, and nothing but a type of neo-feudal “reform” in itself.

          • towerofbabel

“Any system that can be corrupted, will be, and such half-measures without dismantling the economic and political system entirely are the quickest way to defeat.”

From a sociological perspective, I want to know, what kind of human socio/economic systems can be put in its place? I’m going to exaggerate to make my point. Would you eliminate the North African farmer’s seed grain or harvest surplus–which is a form of capital? Would you eliminate cultural capital which is the province of, say, an especially good traveling minstrel in Mexico? Would you close the Souk in Tripoli, Lebanon where a merchant’s stock is a form of capital? You get the idea. From these forms of capital all the way to neoliberal monopoly capitalism there is a spectrum of forms of capital and its role in social relations. Where do YOU draw the line?

          • panem et circenses

I would abolish private ownership which is imposed through force on the masses. If you keep the private property and hierarchies in place and just redistribute some of the wealth, you’re going to end up right back at the same place. The gluttonous nature of capitalism still remains.

Liberalism is an attempt to renegotiate the “social contract” with your owners. The capitalist state doesn’t negotiate, it dictates.

      • Edwin

I can see America bringing back slavery before a universal income is explored.

Thousands to Receive Basic Income in Finland:http://futurism.com/thousands-to-receive-basic-income-in-finland/

Finland is about to launch an experiment in which a randomly selected group of 2,000–3,000 citizens already on unemployment benefits will begin to receive a monthly basic income of 560 euros (approx. $600). That basic income will replace their existing benefits. The amount is the same as the current guaranteed minimum level of Finnish social security support. The pilot study, running for two years in 2017-2018, aims to assess whether basic income can help reduce poverty, social exclusion, and bureaucracy, while increasing the employment rate

      • Edwin

I saw they were looking at it in Ontario, Canada.

Something will have to happen because of offshoring and automation there will be too many unemployed. Too many unemployed roaming about causes major social unrest.

        • cathyx

I’m sure it became a nothingburger after they looked into it. (3 points for me)

          • Edwin

            Aha! Now I see.

no-I have seen other people claiming there’s was-in the last couple of days in fact.
so far I am still good to go.

“Hillary Clinton Courts Henry Kissinger’s Endorsement Even After Meeting His Victims”

HILLARY CLINTON’S CAMPAIGN has been seeking the endorsement of former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and their efforts may pay off, as there are reports that he is expected soon, alongside former Secretary of State George Schultz, to issue a joint endorsement of Clinton.

While those inside the national security community in Washington, D.C., may applaud the endorsement, Kissinger’s legacy of war crimes β€” from complicity in the 1973 coup in Chile to spearheading the saturation bombing of Indochina β€” has made him far less popular among human rights observers.

I went through the report, highlighting things I either found interesting or didn’t know. My notes β€” in the chronological order I made them while going through the report β€” are below. I don’t pretend that this is a comprehensive recording of all that we didn’t (or did) know about Clinton’s decision to set up a private email server and exclusively use it for her electronic correspondence while serving as the nation’s top diplomat. This is just one man’s observations.

    “Clinton’s β€˜run-out-the-clock’ strategy under fire”

But while Clinton remains the heavy favorite, Trump has rebounded in some national and battleground polls taken in late August.

    http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/294365-clintons-run-out-the-clock-strategy-under-fire

Latest polls show Hillarys lead at ONE percent.

    • Nancy

imagine not being better than that against Trump.
too bad she doesn’t have the decency to be ashamed of herself.

      • SpiffyTheValiant

1% is within the margin of error. If that poll is even semi accurate, that’s a chance she’s actually behind.

      • kreskin

A normal human being would be embarrassed and ashamed . Her supporters must be proud.

        • 17

She knows the fix is in.

            I hope they miscalculate .

          • 17

For Honduran feminist artist Melissa Cardoza, Clinton’s policy in Central America has shown her true colors as an instrument of empire representing patriarchal, not feminist, ideology.

β€œAs is well known, she supported the coup d’etat in my country, which has sunk a very worthy and bleeding land further into abject poverty, violence, and militarism,” Cardoza said of Clinton’s legacy in Honduras. β€œShe is part of those who consider only some lives to be legitimate, obviously not rebel women and women of color that live here and who do not, at least not all, fit in with imperial interests.”

For those who are paying attention, the question of whether or not Indigenous peoples can repel the Dakota Access pipeline has begun to embody one of the larger questions of our time: Will non-Native people finally hear Indigenous voices, and help shift the course of history?

It’s no secret that all life on Earth stands imperiled, during a period that many scientists have described as the world’s sixth mass extinction event. We have been told, again and again, that our entire way of living and our entire culture of energy dependence must be transformed if we are to have any hope. And yet, greed has kept us on a global collision course with catastrophe.

The GOP controls most of the States, so they control the voting machines. That’s how we roll down here.

          • s k

The money behind both parties want Hillary, no question about that.

          • Dosido3

Lol, Hillary is trying that. Not working as well

      • The DNC doesn’t care about who wins, as long as both ruling-class parties’ politicians share their political ideals. And that’s the case now.

        • s k

There is still ruling class rivalry, not all of the oligarchs agree on how to split the spoils.

          • Well, it’s true that each House of Wealth jockeys for as large a share as it can get, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they don’t have each others’ backs, when it comes to maintaining a lock on power.

The Jockeying comes after the election. That’s what Lobbyists are for. I think the events surrounding the 2000 presidential race show, quite clearly, that the ruling-class parties don’t really have a life-or-death stake in who controls the White House (and possibly Congress)

    • Shohanna

My problem with this shit, is they don’t report the fucking truth. We can’t trust these numbers, just like we can’t trust most of the crap in the M$M. I would not be surprised to see that Trump is actually a head by 15% and they are making plans and seeing where they can “rig” it for Clinton.

  • You think the Congress is rigged for the rich? Try the courts…

9th Circuit Shoots Down FTC’s Consumer Protection Authority Over Common Carriers

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued a sweeping decision, Federal Trade Commission v AT&T, on Monday that drastically restricts the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) consumer protection authority over companies that offer β€œcommon carrier” services (e.g., telephone services, mobile data, and internet services) whether or not these services comprise their core business. Moreover, since no other federal agency currently has the necessary scope of regulatory authority over this area, if this decision stands, significant activities of such companies would be essentially unregulated.

    • cathyx

Everything is rigged for the rich.

    • Shohanna

That’s the fucking plan. So they can “censor” who ever decides they don’t like it. **smdh**

    • After digging a bit. The names of the 3 judge panel are

      Richard R. Clifton
      Sandra S. Ikuta
      William Q. Hayes

Chinese officials rolled out a red carpet but failed to extend a staircase to Air Force One β€” leaving President Obama hanging and touching off a near fistfight.

Obama’s Saturday arrival at the airport in Hangzhou was a mess from the start.

As Obama’s staff scrambled to get airplane stairs in place, a Chinese official began screaming at White House press photographers after they took position to snap the President stepping off Air Force One.

Won’t happen. He’s a Bibi guy, and Hillary is Bibi’s gal.

      • cathyx

        But the guy needs money…

        • 17

He’s an ex-politician. There’s plent of things he knows to write about. Hillary will be off-limits.

          • cathyx

The only thing anyone will be interested to read about is what he knows about the Clintons. And i repeat, the guy needs money.

          • Dosido3

Then Clinton’s should pay him not to write it! Elite welfare at its finest.

“The Audacious Plan to Save This Man’s Life by Transplanting His Head”

The common connection is their heads. The half-black/half-white mice look Photoshopped, but in fact Ren’s team surgically switched their heads, decapitating each mouse and grafting its head onto the body of the other. The monkey poster is the β€œafter” shot of a primate head transplant performed in Ren’s lab in January. And now Ren is preparing to perform a head transplant on another primate, a human beingβ€”and the Russian in the wheelchair has volunteered to go first.

The idea of fusing a severed spinal cord is great.

          Double ew! Ew infinity!!!

Mercenaries Just Attacked Dakota Pipeline Protesters with Dogs & Pepper Spray

rivate security guards working on behalf of the companies building the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline have reached a despicable new low. Video and photos of the pepper spray and dog attacks are going viral on social media.

The Native American protesters were attempting to protect their public drinking water and sacred indigenous lands by demonstrating against the construction of the controversial pipeline in North Dakota.

However, while protesters peacefully chanted β€œWater is life!” mercenaries sprayed pepper spray into the crowd. Right before the video cuts out, a panicked voice can be heard screaming β€œThey’ve got trucks behind us too!”

    • 17

Oh yeah. “Peaceful” protests work. Gimme a fuckin’ break. They’re willing to literally steamroll over these people if that what it takes. Get your gawd-damned guns out, people, or they’re going to kill you.

      • Well, guns first is probably the wrong tactic at this particular time, but they certainly should be working at this company’s various equipment and office locations, to make it highly unprofitable for the company to pursue this project. I mean, how much money in equipment and facilities can they lose, before DA Inc. gives up. I think that’s a really efficient use of resources for the anti-pipeline folks. They’re certainly going to sacrifice fewer of their fellows’ lives and livelihoods, that way.

        πŸ˜€

        • 17

They should at least try to protect themselves. No one else will, including our justice system.

Straight to the point, our two tier justice system

    • Dosido3

Why aren’t more black athletes making a stink about this? That’s what I wonder.

      • Because they’re shit scared of losing the gravy train, and going back to being “just black” is, I’m afraid, the answer.

        • 17

Yep. When you make it to the big dance, ya don’t wanna risk losing your ticket.

          • Dosido3

I think there’s safety in numbers. If more did it then what are team owners going to do? Replace them?

          • 17

Ask the Air Traffic Controller’s Union.

          • Dosido3

I’m not asking them to go on strike. Just speak up?

          • LOLSAD: I though the exact same thing.

          • s k

Like the Missouri’s black football players refusing to play until president ousted

          • Dosido3

            Yep

        • Dosido3

Any black person – their own kids – can get pulled over or stopped at any time for any reason. They should know that better than anyone.

      • Annaleigh

Fear of rocking the boat I guess, I’ve heard it time and time again that the higher-ups in the NFL tend to be conservative white men and Kaepernick’s protest and the way he’s protesting is the sort of thing they are allergic to. I remember that when Chris Kluwe was dropped from his team he suggested it was because of his gay rights activism/support.

        • SmotPoker

The local paper had an article the other day about this. It had quotes from cowardly NFL execs slamming Colin, and stating that they would never have him on their team….

Fucking cowards to a man, hiding behind anonymous quotes. I wish the writer would have said fuck that, we’re naming you assholes.

I saw somewhere she (Clinton) raised $143 million in August. How much does she fucking need?

      • Dosido3

        Just a little bit more…

      • Nancy

well you know Edwin-these things cost money!

        • Edwin

I have a brother that behaves like that toward his staff…sadly my ex is also of that mindset.

          • Oh my ex behaves that way to his staff as well.

One of the reasons why he’s my ex ;^)

          • Nancy

            funny how that works!

          • Right o.o

“They have their iPods they’re happy.”

I kid you not that was his response when I was talking to him about a livable wage.

          • Nancy

“they don’t need to be paid more-they need to be hungry, they will stick around.”

          • I know there are people out there like that, sad to say.

My ex followed a more typical line of rationale.

A overestimation of his worth while simultaneously under-estimating everybody else’s. An easy justification for the extra large slice of pie that elites give themselves.

          • Nancy

my brother is falsely secure in his worth and abilities. he keeps others down to inflate himself.
            it’s sickening.

In any case, I wish more famous people would speak up and speak out like he is. The story is more about him, not his fault, instead of focusing on what he’s saying like in Nancy’s post…

        • Dosido3

Ok. I got that wrong. He’s trying to get his starting position back!

      • Nancy

        it’s non-existent in mine.

He’s sticking his neck , it’s for real . This doesn’t do anything to cement his position on the team .

      • Considering the top brass is talking about cutting him from the team and saying he’ll never play in the nfl again, I doubt that is the case.

        • SmotPoker

Hell, he has what, $11 million guaranteed? I’d make myself as big a pain in the old white man club ass as I could. Cut me bitches, go ahead, no practice, no more bashing my brains out for your entertainment. It’ll give me more time to rail against you assholes.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CreZ0M5WYAAaJ96.jpg

    • Oh that is disgustingly awful.

    • Edwin

      Is this a police dog?

      • No, private security dogs. Honestly I’m surprised this is legal.

        It is however immoral.

        • SpiffyTheValiant

o.o that dog looks like a fucking demon or something. That poor animal has probably been taught to attack anything it sees.

          • I would dearly love to know what the law is on this.

I just don’t see anything in the law that allows a private Institution to bring dogs to the people.

Like you can see a company leaving attack dogs in a chained and fenced-in area that if people break into they get chased back out, but literally these people brought the dogs to these people to intimidate them.

And apparently lost control to the point where they were able to bite people. I hope they sue DAPL asses off.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

I hope the dogs don’t get put down over this shit and the people who got bit sue their asses off.

          • I actually was thinking about that myself. Some states it’s mandatory if a dog bites a human being that they have to be put down.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            ;/

          • It’s a way to weed out Ultra aggressive dogs. At least that’s the thought behind it.

In this case however it would be doubly wrong, for the animals were aggravated by handlers and trained to be aggressive.

          • SpiffyTheValiant

            yup

    • sickening. Animal abuse, IMO

      • kreskin

    • kreskin

They did it , Edwin , hit 1000 on the last thread. New open thread , no sign of OculusVeritas … or anyone else . Ricki was venting shall we say ?

      • Edwin

I looked in earlier and they had closed the comments at 999. If someone got 1,000 it was rigged. (Why does that not surprise me?)

Went to look. Yup, closed at 999– no winner, they didn’t do it. They failed again.

To insure we are all on the same page, we would like to remind everyone
of the guidelines, as follows: 1) In order to participate, an entry
        must be written numerically, i.e. 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, etc.; 2) One
entry per participant, per game… no multiple entries; and 3) if the
entry is posted numerically incorrect it is automatically withdrawn from
competition. We make the final determination of the winner and
announce it. We hope this helps! πŸ™‚

And then Ricki opened a new thread to drunk-post and rage at others. Nice. She’s really classy, that one.

        • kreskin

          Bizarre .

          • Edwin

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Some people really need to learn that lesson, it would make my life less stressful.

          • Shohanna

You are not the only one with that sentiment. haha

        • The_Fixer

Anyone who takes a tongue-in-cheek contest with the winner’s avatar wearing a crown so seriously that they have to write a wordy set of regulations about it has a serious perspective problem. Really, it’s not like there’s an impressive cash prize or an all-expense paid trip at stake here.

I also saw where she cried crocodile tears over you “stealing” the crown from Daniel once. I think this woman is going off the rails. I do hope that someone near and dear to her sits her down and has a nice talk with her about the potential of seeing someone professionally about her problems.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

I honestly don’t remember that ever happening, plus I didn’t really care.

          • The_Fixer

Hey, Daniel. I really didn’t care about that whole thing, and I suspect that the only ones who took it seriously were the two blog owners. It was a source of what I saw as good-natured joking. Apparently, it was something akin to blood sport for them. Sad when one’s perspective has become that skewed.

I think in order for her to regain her footing in the world in which the rest of us inhabit, she should close that blog and walk away from the Internet for a while. And get therapy.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            No kidding.

            Hope you’re doing well.

          • The_Fixer

I’m OK. Hope you are doing reasonably well (other than your tired back). Was a busy, stressful week and I did not have much energy or time to comment this week, but did lurk.

Which Vancouver are you in, Washington or B.C.?

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

            BC.

Hopefully today is better for you.

Just need time for my back and legs to get back to my version of normal.

          • The_Fixer

Ah. Never been out that way, but always was impressed by Vancouver. Always thought if it became unbearable here in the U.S., that’s where I’d like to go. Of course, I don’t have the money to do that, and it’s doubtful that Canada would find me useful at my age, but it’s a nice thought.

Hope you have fun up there and you have good weather in which to have that fun.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

You sound very useful to me.

          • The_Fixer

That’s nice of you to say πŸ™‚ However, I am in my early 60s, and there are not too more many productive years left for me. I would be a beneficiary of their great social service system, but would not have contributed to it. If I had lots of money, that would be a different story. As kind and as accepting as Canada is to refugees, it becomes a practical matter to them. How do you pay for an unintended influx of immigrants?

And I can’t blame them, it’s just the way that this world has become – resource and economy-oriented. Canada has to live in the world which has largely been manipulated by powerful capitalists, often with government backing (such as our own).

          • Edwin

and she needs to lay off the booze– major tosspot

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, her rants reek of booze and perhaps stimulants. Vodka/Red Bull? I can only speculate.

          • Edwin

She could be a pill popper, huffing glue, inhaling raw gasoline fumes… who knows?

(Hiya, R!ck1.. mwha mwha. Copy and paste me into your next rant, ya fucking douchebag.)

          • The_Fixer

Yeah, who knows. I see that she was trying to draw me out the other night as well. Which means that she has been reading my comments about her here (of which there have been precious few). She said “The Fixer… can’t be Fixed.”

Foolish woman does not realize that is the source of my charm πŸ™‚

Ah, little more to say on that subject. We know that she’s got serious issues, she does bad things because of them, and… that’s about all there is to say.

          • Edwin

I did? I musta missed that.

How can one steal a crown? You click post and your comment gets to the blog when it does. People seem to think I have magic-voodoo powers and a full stable of cheerleaders working for me.

(I only have a few cheerleaders and they are often errant and not easy to control. Like herding cats.)

          • I feel your pain. Had a terrible one pop up out of nowhere a few months back. Was doing painkiller and whiskey chasers ever hour to get through the day. In a weird way I was really lucky though. I was working a job in Cuba and after a few days of misery went to their hospital. Had the tooth pulled, got a bunch more painkillers and twice the antibiotics necessary all for less than $100 US. If I hadn’t been in Cuba that experience would have ruined me financially for a long time.

There is a joke there, but I’m just going to slowly walk away from it….

      • Edwin

        I didn’t say that, you did. I said p1gs.

        Hi, Daniel.

        • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

          Hi Edwin, how’s it going?

          • Edwin

Not bad. Another perfect day, sunny, cloudy, breezy and nice. It’s that time of year here.

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

It started out raining here but then the sun came out and got comfortable. In Van at the moment.

          • Edwin

            Vancouver (?)

            Enjoy

            Yep 😸

          • Edwin

            the Canada one?

          • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Is there another one? Yes I’ve been to the one in WA, it’s just a suburb of Portland as far as I’m concerned.

          • Edwin

I always go down to the beach at English Bay (and smoke doobies.)

          • Love Vancouver BC. Studied for a bit at Emily Carr back in my younger years and lived on 12th and Oak. Still one of my favorite places for the beauty, people, and lifestyle.

    • If there’s one thing authoritarian bullies are really good at, it’s whining about being victimized and throwing pity parties for themselves.

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

        Blue lives matter, rolls eyes.

        • In my 17 years in NYC I only had a gun pulled on me once. It was by a gang of cops on the prowl harassing Hispanic people in Bushwick (back in the late 90’s). They’d already been holding my neighbor against the wall with a gun to the back of his head and using slurs while yelling at him. Once they noticed me watching the whole thing I guess they decided to be equal opportunity thugs and threw me against the wall and put a gun to my head. Though, no slurs were used against me. Probably because I’m white like they were.

The guy holding a gun to my head was shaking which was odd since he had the gun and I was in my pajamas.

They had me sign a form stating I wouldn’t sue them. I signed it since I didn’t want some disgruntled cops on my case.

The only good thing to come out of it was for the next few years the cops stopped harassing the people in my building. I guess having an educated white guy around took the fun out of their hijinks.

Hiya, Git. Hope all is well.

        • Thanks! Doing better than I have been in a while. Finally moved into my new place and living on my own again. Work has been good to me, and feeling optimistic about the near future if I can just get through the next two-three months with no major issues.

And, I’m gonna be out on a fishing boat for the next few days somewhere south of San Diego. So that should be fun. At least, I assume it is. Going with a bunch of strangers so either it will be fun, or I’m joining a murder cult that plans to take me out into international waters and sacrifice me to Cthulhu. Either way, it’ll be an experience!

          • Shohanna

Braver then me! lol I can’t bring myself to go out with any strangers regardless of how fun it would be. /sigh lol I don’t know what that says about me though.

Even Argentinians are noticing how much Hillary sucks. They’re covering how she lost a lead to Trump and is trailing him
    http://www.clarin.com/mundo/Trump-Hillary-cabeza-republicano-punto_0_1643835754.html

    • I know it’s been said often, but how the democrats could field a candidate capable of losing to Trump is amazing. The nihilist in me is really hoping she loses to him so the current Democratic leadership can be flushed like a much needed enema and all those who have been chanting it’s her turn and she’s the most qualified and all that crap can be reviled for a generation or more as the blowhards they are. At this point, she makes Lincoln Chaffee seem like he’d have been a better choice.

      • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

        Nods.

      • My argument is that Democratic party leadership doesn’t really care. That they’ve been made aware, by their patrons, that it’s unimportant, as long as the person in the White House goes along with the program, and this would be true of either Clinton or Trump. So, they rigged it for the person who had the most favors to call in and wanted it, Hillary Clinton. As long as no one was nominated who would oppose the wishes of the Plutocrats/Billionaires.

  • Edwin
    • all_hail_the_hypno_toad

Money is more important than people to the Clintons. I also doubt her cult looks fondly at gays.

    • The_Fixer

Was interesting to see Jimmy look at Aravosis. I used to be a regular at Americablog, until he came back and turned it into a super pro-Hillary site.

He uses specious arguments like the one Jimmy pointed out in the process of strongly pushing for Hillary. Jimmy did a good job of showing how ridiculous of a statement that is (it’s not even good enough to be considered an argument or a debate point). I am one gay man who thinks that foundation needs to be shut down or completely taken out of her and her family’s hands. Taking it out of their hands would, of course, immediately render it impotent simply because its only appeal is that it is the entry point for a pay-to-play operation that is second to none.

Another thing, again as a gay man: I am so very, very disappointed that people like Aravosis – one of the people who have fought against the establishment for gay rights and social progress – have become part of the Mimosa-sipping elite in the Democratic party. They have become the very same people who they were fighting against in times past. Sad to say, it makes them sellouts in my estimation.

If they were half as interested in social justice as they claim to be, they’d know two things: Firstly, when one class of people are oppressed, all people are cheated. Two, once you have the ear of the powerful, you start talking, and that talking should not be to say that you agree with them.

      • Well said. Too many fighters have taken their personal successes to heart, mistaken them for social victories, and seem to be fine pulling up the ladder behind them.

      • Annaleigh

The whole thing was pitiful and stunning, and yet I’m so disgusted and tired of the whole “if you don’t support Hillary you’re racist/sexist/homophobic.” Don’t they notice how disgusted people are?

        • The_Fixer

They are not going to see how disgusted people are, it’s not in their interest to do so. Their job is to “sell” her.

Even if one assumes that to not be the case, how could one expect that these people would recognize that she is not going to act in their interests when it fails to register that they are supporting the same person who Paul Wolfowitz and Bloody Bill Kristol are supporting?

And they say that we’re the ones with “Hillary Derangement Syndrome”. How darling of them.

    Shadows of Liberty – 1:28:52

Ninety percent of American media is controlled by five big,
for-profit-conglomerates, creating a media monopoly of informational and
social control never before possible. The overwhelming collective power
of these firms raises troubling questions about democracy. Using a
handful of in-depth cases out of a vast array of examples, speaking with
renowned journalists, activists, and others, Shadows of Liberty
reveals the hidden machinations of the news media, drawing into focus
the vast mechanisms of censorship, cover-ups, and corporate control that
have been built up over many decades. Journalists are prevented from
pursuing controversial news stories, people are censored for speaking
out against abuses of government power, and individual lives are
shattered as the arena for public expression has been turned into a
vessel for advertising, warmongering and distraction. Will the Internet
remain β€˜free’, or succumb to the same control by the same handful of
    powerful, monopolistic corporations–as we see?

  • Annaleigh

Whelp, due to the clowns scaring children in South Carolina, another one of my favorite unsolved mystery/creepy/dark things YouTubers decided to do a video, this time 5 creepiest clown attacks/sightings, whatever. All of the cases are shudder-inducing but Dark 5 decided that the local Kern County clowns deserved the #1 spot on the countdown (Yay? :S ): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w53BeMtPwd0

And to clarify what I mentioned during the Rob Dyke video post about worries last Halloween for the kids’ ability to go out have fun due to reports of a clown with a gun and a shooting, they were two separate things, the clown with the gun was sighted shortly before Halloween supposedly, and also five men were shot at a local bar around the same time but in a separate incident (there may have been a clown running around with gun but at least he wasn’t shooting people in bars. Yay?). So at the time there was apprehension, and I felt a special responsibility to make the Halloween potlach a really good one because the park kids might not have been able to leave the trailer park to trick or treat and there are some people in the park who don’t do Halloween at all. I wanted them to have a Halloween of some sort no matter what!

    The Atomic States of America

Don Argott, Kelly McMasters, Sheena Joyce 2012
    1:32:26

    In
2010, the United States announced the construction of the first new
nuclear power plant in more than 30 years. But a year later in Japan, a
9.0 magnitude earthquake hit, preceding a cataclysmic meltdown at the
Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant bringing the reality of nuclear power back
into public consciousness across the globe. For some. Both political
parties of the United States ignored this and continued a pro-nuclear
agenda, while others, forgetting more of the past, didn’t realise the
history of home. The Atomic States of America serves to break
this forgetting by travelling from the gates of Three Mile Island, to
the cooling ponds of Braidwood to document just some of what has
happened and is happening with nuclear power in the United States today.
By speaking with communities throughout the country, this film
documents arrays of stories of polluted drinking water, government
collusion with industry, cover-ups, cancer epidemics and other
suppressed stories. Begun more than a year before the disaster in Japan,
this film gains a unique before and after perspective, seeking to
inspire an honest remembering about just what this culture has done and
continues to do for power at the expense of the world.

That sucks. Is that what I have to look forward to?

I usually wake up because of a dream or because I have to pee. Or because I have to pee I wake up and realize I am dreaming. Last night I was back in England again (that’s twice this week), but I messed up my connection for my flight home and was mildly frustrated, dream style.

Gather yon bowls, and strike flame to the helpful herb my flock. Find the healing within its vapors.

From the Book Of Dave Chapter One Verse One – Ya need to chill the fuck out sometimes. Sometimes it’s in the morning, sometimes it’s at noon, sometimes it’s the evening. Verily I say unto thee tis no crime in chilling.

    • Shohanna

Dropped to 60 degrees here, and I am so chilling my boobs are at attention~ Have had enough! No more chilling. Damn it. I hate it when it goes from 100+ degrees high humidity to 60!! And NO humidity. That shit is cold. πŸ™

      • SmotPoker

Running with the high beams on today huh? I’m pretty confident this weather change is driving my migraines.

        • Shohanna

Yeah, I had one day of the “garbleblaster” not working so I get where your coming from!

  • SmotPoker

Scrolling through the idiot box, and saw something that I found to be rather disturbing, and disconcerting. It’s a practice that I personally believe should be outlawed, and subject to punishment most severe.

The crime? Drawn on eyebrows in place of ones that have been shaved off. No. Just no. It’s never a good idea.

Speaking of eyebrows, that NinjaDuo infomercial guy creeps me out with his thick black eyebrows like a couple of caterpillars were glued in place with a completely shaved head, clean as a whistle. I’m not one to knock another persons looks but, some things should just never happen in civilized society.

    • Shohanna

I knew a couple of wonderful ladies who had to draw on their eye brows. One lady was my grandma, and it was because the chemo she had for uterine cancer took her eyebrows and they never grew back. I helped her when I was a little girl. I loved helping putting on make up. And she was such a GOOD sport, if my 7 yr old hand wiggled and messed it up, SHE LEFT IT THERE and thanked me and loved me and said I would be a wonderful Mommy someday. It still bring tears to my eyes to remember her. She died when I was 26 and I will always, always miss her.

The other lady was IN chemo and lost all of her hair, eyebrows, and her mustashe, she was quite happy about it. I worked with her. Neither of which grew back in when she was done. She said it was a small price to pay for having her life.

Sometimes there are stories behind why people do certain things. Like me falling down the stairs and damaging every goddamned nerve in my back. I can not wear a bra. So I am a “slutty” whore for running around in broad daylight with no bra, and I am suppose to be “embarrassed” about it. Funny thing, I am not and more women notice then Men.

I don’t judge by look alone, unless they are some creepy old guy walking around the goddamned parking lot looking in cars for an opportunity to commit some crime. As a guy did this morning while I was at Kroger’s. I was eating my breakfast minding my own business when I notice this old guy creeping around the parking lot looking at every single car. Going up and down the rows looking for what i am not sure but damn did he give me the creeps. He noticed me in my car eating and gave me a look that DARED me to say something. Once I was done eating and finished watching him carouse the entire parking lot (about 50 cars at 6 am) I busied my butt inside and reported it to customer serivce. The chick who I talked with, had the SAME experience as ME! So we both commiserated about how creepy it was and how he needed to leave the property! lol

So sometimes there is a REASON to judge. Other times I think you should keep your trap shut about what women / men have to do to be acceptable in society. /nod (I am mostly joking!)

      • 17

Hey! Maybe I was just making sure there were no infants or children left alone in those cars! πŸ˜‰

        • Shohanna

I would have thought that, if he hadn’t given me that “look”. You know that look, the one that says fuck you I will fuck you up? That one.. Yeah. He was up to no good.

      • SmotPoker

This wasn’t a chemo woman. i knew someone would come along with the chemo stories, for them I have an exception, no problem.

The woman i was referring to was in prison. If you notice, it’s rare I comment about appearances, very rare indeed. Not my place.
