Professor Robert Cialdini has been studying how people are influenced, using psychological compliance techniques for decades. These techniques are universal and unconscious and extremely difficult, even impossible to not fall victim to. This is what is known as “The Science of Persuasion.”

Sales hacks and political campaign professional know this and Cialdini’s research is used effectively to influence and change peoples’ opinions every day. In fact, these techniques, once you know them should be very familiar to progressives from the recent Democratic party primary.

Knowing these persuasion science techniques will open your eyes and you’ll suddenly be able to see the array of persuasion mechanisms that surround out lives, 24/7/365 and it will change how you live your life and interact with the world.

I have these small baking cups or whatever they’re called from Cost Plus World Market. Used that for the lime “bars”. Could have used more limes, I like it tart but not bad. Could only eat a few bites of it though.

The recipe according to Edwin
Ingredients
Crust:
14 whole-grain graham cracker squares (7 full sheets)  2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter  1 tablespoon dark brown sugar  1/4 teaspoon salt  Cooking spray
Filling:
1 (8-ounce) package 1/3 less-fat cream cheese, softened at room temperature  1 (14-ounce) can fat-free sweetened condensed milk  2 egg yolks 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest  1/2 cup fresh lemon juice  2 teaspoons powdered gelatin (2 sheets) 3 tablespoons boiling water (1.5 oz)
Directions
Make Crust: Place graham crackers in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until crumbs are formed. Add butter, brown sugar and salt and pulse to incorporate, until crumbs resemble wet sand. Coat an 8-inch square pan with cooking spray and pack crumbs firmly into the bottom of it. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Make the filling: In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, condensed milk and pasteurized egg product and beat on high with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add lemon zest and juice and beat until fully incorporated, another 30 seconds. In a small bowl, combine the gelatin and boiling water and whisk until gelatin is entirely dissolved; let cool 2 to 3 minutes. Stir the gelatin into the cream cheese-lemon mixture until well incorporated. Pour the filling over the crust. Refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight, until filling is firm. Slice into 2-inch squares using a chilled knife coated with cooking spray.

        If you look at this election season, we see that populist ideas were holding sway. Trump and Bernie were the ones who filled stadiums to the rafters with people — who were fully cognizant of the fact that the 1% is screwing us, and that they don’t care about our lives or well being. There are ideological differences to be sure, but in some ways there less air between the left and right among average people when it comes to economic issues, and the militarized police state, and the stripping of rights given to them by the Patriot Acts, and much else besides, than there has been in this country in a very long time. This fact that vast numbers of people are beginning to view their leadership as the source of most of their problems will continue to be a growing danger to the 1% and their gatekeepers the police.

        It did translate to votes — Bernie won the primary. Look at the statistics put out by Election Justice USA, and the Stanford and UC Berkeley studies. They’re all pointing to the primary being stolen, and some of the most respected statisticians agree with them. The 1% screwed the 99% out of getting the candidate they wanted on the left.

        You should look at them. It was completely rigged in many states and from one end of the country to the other. And, there was also a concerted and widespread effort to disenfranchise Bernie’s supporters — which I think came from the fact that the DNC was using a computer system that kept track of people who donated to his campaign. I was someone whose registration was magically purged in California, even though I always vote, and even though I’ve lived in the same place for over 10 years. I had to re-register in order to vote for Bernie in California. I checked the status after I saw what had happened in NY. so I knew, but many other people didn’t, and were given provisional ballots when they went to vote. Over two million of those provisional ballots were never even counted in my state, as the studies showed, they were overwhelmingly Bernie supporters.
        
        You really need to look at those studies — they’re legit, and should be taken seriously. If we had a media who was interested in reporting the truth, people would not be so complacent about the blatant theft of our democracy.

        Ah, I have been through similar things with my roommate’s cats. We had a sad situation here in the last 6 months. My rooommates were a married couple, she passed away after a long battle with cancer. One of the cats was “her” cat. After she passed, that cat became “mine.” It was the reverse of your situation; this cat, whom I’ve always treated well and showed him affection, started to warm up to me. He was always friendly, but showed little more than a casual interest in me. Nowadays, he is my solid bud.
        
        The point I am trying to make is that your dog likely recognizes that you took the initiative to bond with him/her. Domesticated pets are pretty emotionally connected and know more about what you think than we’d suspect. Which of course, makes them special to us. Their return of that affection validates those thoughts that we have about our relationship with them. Keep in mind that these wonderful pets don’t assign the same weight to what we may think of as neglect that we do. They are very forgiving.
        
        Rambling a bit here. In the end, enjoy your bond with your puppy. There’s nothing that can replace that. Don’t dwell on what you think you did wrong in the past; you cared for this dog and he/she knows it. That’s why you were able to bond.

        I get that. I’ve done things for which I’ve been guilty in my life. My attitude is that once you know that you have not done your best, then it’s really best to try and push the guilt aside. Anytime you dwell on the negative, it is destructive.
        
        Of course, that is easier said than done. You just have to work at it. The best correction, if you will, for that is to revel in the love. That’s all that matters.

        It’s funny – and I think that there is a long discussion one could have about this – but the Online life is vastly different from our usual social interactions. I liken it to driving – the same person who will hold the door open for you at the local convenience store is the same person who will viciously cut you off in traffic, sometimes endangering your life. Driving in an automobile is very similar to going online in that you are somewhat anonymous. They really don’t know you, so they feel that they have license to abuse you. If they know you, say they are your neighbor, they will treat you more kindly and cut you some slack. I think of it as a failing of humans – we have to know someone in order to treat them well.
        
        I only treat people shitty online if they treat me shitty first. However, like you, I prefer to not deal with them and would rather keep away from them.

        It’s a lose lose situation. Ignore her, and she ramps up. Give her attention, and she ramps up. I ignored her for a long while, she persisted, i eventually spoke to her, and she let loose. But you’re right. Engaging her isn’t healthy at this point. We all need to move on.

        Ignore her, and you ignore her. She will move on, once you stop feeding her need for attention. Seen it a dozen times in my life, and finally, a decade and a half ago, got a shrink’s advice on how to deal with these kind of people and it works:
        
        Just stop feeding their psychological need for conflict, and they’ll seek it elsewhere. There’s nothing you can do to stop them, or help them, unless you’re a trained psychologist. They will only become more shrill for a short time, seeking to re-engage you, after they see you really won’t feed their needs anymore, they disappear from your life in a puff of smoke.

        That’s what they need alright, and what they want. If you want to continue to entangle yourself into their illness, that’s your choice, but you’re only risking becoming like them: You’re serving them and their needs, by such behavior.

        I know, but I just look at what she says, and I see a picture forming of a certain type of disorder that I’ve encountered before and I like you too much to see you get caught up in it. Because some psychological disorders can be contagious too, if you spend too much time around them and I don’t want to see you go that path because it would ruin a great person!

But in interviews this past week with more than 70 young voters in nine states from diverse backgrounds, lifestyles and careers, it is clear their mood is decidedly different from previous elections. Despite their varied lives, most of those interviewed shared a disgust with both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump so intense that it is pushing many beyond disillusionment and toward apathy.
The message coming from America’s rising generation is ominous, and it carries ramifications after the November election. No matter who wins, they don’t think the next president will address their concerns or even have an impact on their lives. They have grim expectations for their government and have stopped looking to Washington for solutions. Why? Because they see it as too gridlocked — and its leaders too corrupted.
These voters were embarrassed and ashamed that Clinton and Trump are the best the country has to offer. Of the more than 70 millennials interviewed by The Washington Post, only a small fraction sounded genuinely enthusiastic about a candidate.
